AVOID FAIRFAX CLEANERS AT ALL COSTS. THEY PUT A HOLE IN MY BRAND NEW CASHMERE SWEATER. Sweater was worn ONCE and purchased 2 week ago. THEY ALSO WASHED TWO PAIRS OF BRAND NEW JEANS WHEN THEY WERE TOLD TO DRYCLEAN THEM ONLY AND NOW THEY NO LONGER FIT. THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE CLOTHES THEY DESTROYED. They said they are not responsible for holes that appear in cashmere sweaters after dry cleaning because they put them in a mesh bag. They offered to mend the sweater and steam my clothes to make them looser. They said they had the RIGHT to wash my jeans because that is what is on the label, DESPITE the fact I specifically told them not to. If this company took responsibility for their errors I would not be leaving this review and would have had no quarrel with them. They do not and that's why I would not recommend them. Worst dry cleaner I've ever been to in last 20+ years. Ruined my clothes worth almost $800 with no consideration or accountability :( The ladies up front began very polite and friendly. I specified dry clean only for two pair of my ~$200 jeans, and the ladies said ok. But when I pick them up and try them on they have clearly shrunk. Next time I bring two more pair of ~$200 jeans, I say, last time my jeans shrunk and that I think last time there was a mistake, and these jeans must be "dry cleaned only"(!) and cannot go in the drier(!). When I pick these jeans up they have both shrunk and are no longer wearable! I return to store to show shrunken jeans. Formerly polite ladies ask if I have gained weight (?!? seriously?). (No, I actually lost weight recently). Then lady pulls out ruler and says waist looks okay (as if she can expertly tell from this silly evaluation?!?). I explain that when I put jeans on I they are most obviously too tight (and were not before) and that they are clearly 1-2 inches too short now compared to before. I then also show that jeans label has been changed by water from washing not dry cleaning. Lady finally says to come back and speak with manager. When I speak with manager, he takes ZERO accountability, and says jeans wash instructions do not specify "dry clean only", but admits they have instructions for "no tumble dry" (not sure if they followed that no tumble dry though either??). I explain that I clearly and repeatedly specified dry clean only! Manager says my instructions were ignored as they can't follow customer instructions and have to follow garment instructions. I argued that if my instructions were not going to be followed then my jeans should have been returned to me without cleaning and without charge, with a note that my jeans could not be cleaned. Manager said they don't do that (?!?!?), and that they do whatever they want as long as it's not prohibited by the garment's cleaning instructions. I was offered no compensation whatsoever. I was also told they do not have insurance to cover the cost. He told me to take it up with the jean manufacturer (seriously, good luck with that?!?). So all I can do is never go back there and advise others to avoid Fairfax Cleaners, unless you have clothes that you want to shrink or if you like cleaners that blatantly and admittedly ignore your customer instructions. read more

Do not use Fairfax Cleaners to clean and preserve your wedding gown! I unwrapped my wedding gown after 26 years. The good news is that it is completely white (not yellow) because it was effectively sealed. However, there are numerous spots in the train, which they likely never even tried to remove. Also, my veil was not in the box, but was replaced by someone else's veil. Fortunately a tailor can fix the spots with creative sewing/applique so that my daughter will be able to wear my gown this summer. Sadly, when I informed Fairfax Cleaners about their careless work and loss of my veil --- I didn't even receive an apology from the clerk. She just walked away from me with absolutely no comment. This has been my cleaners and my parents cleaners for years. Unfortunately their attention to detail has gone to shambles. If I do not inspect my shirts now I ALWAYS find stains that never were even attempted to clean - further, the racks that hang the shirts are so filled with dust that specks of dust fall off the racks I to the shirts now consistently. I have been coming here so long I have been even forgiving these things but it is when they attempt to blame me for the mistakes instead of saying "your correct - sorry and we will make it right) is what has me after 15 years switching to a better cleaners. Brought my evening gown in to be hemmed. They said they could also help with adjusting the shoulders that were too wide. I said I was going to take care of it myself and I needed them to save them extra fabric from the hem. They pinned the shoulders and said they could do it for me for only $20. I agreed, but said I still wanted the extra fabric. When I came to pick it up, the hem was fine (a simple hem for $30 for each layer), but there was a pull in the back of the chiffon dress now and the shoulders were sloppily gathered and still did not stay up! They said they did not make the pull. They said they could fix the shoulders by making criss cross straps. I told them I did not want that. I was not happy with the alteration they made to the shoulders and I didn't want anything else done to my dress since they messed up the alteration and made a pull. I told them I would pay for what they did, but I wanted to leave. I asked for the extra fabric which they had not kept with my dress. Luckily they were able to find it. They did not offer to reduce the fee I paid for the entire job to exclude the poor shoulder work. At least my hem was completed! read more

I wish I had read these reviews before giving this place any of my business. I have been going here for 4 years for my husband's dress shirts. I've always been highly irritated that the lady (owner) is quick to take back my hangers and reorganize/detangle them before even paying attention to the fact that I'm still there waiting to pick up my dry cleaning. She also never says a word when I come in, not a "hello" or even a "thank you." She just glares at me and takes/gives me my stuff. The last straw... Last year, at the end of the Fall season, I decided to drop off my designer blazer to get spot treated. My color blind husband picked it up and put it in storage, only to be rediscovered this year to have never been dry cleaned at all!! The spots, and a new strand of hair, were still there. I brought it back to the cleaners and asked them if they could redo it, but the lady barked at me and instructed her clerk (son?) to tell me there's nothing they can do about it now since it's been a year. Surprised that she actually spoke, I reminded her that I had brought her lots of business and was asking for a little customer service. I could see her mouth foaming with anger at just the thought. Scared of being bitten by a little Korean lady, I left with my jacket, cursed with her strand of hair. In a nutshell, I recommend avoiding this place if you: 1) Value customer service; 2) Like clean clothes; and 3) Have angry-Asian-lady phobia. read more

You guys saved my life! We've been going here for our weekend drop off cleaning for at least 10 years. Never had a bad experience. Today I didn't pay attention to the time and arrived at 6:15pm on a Saturday (They Close at 6pm). Unlike 95% of the businesses we experience, the lead woman (owner) in the family saw me at 6:15pm as she was opening her car several hundred feet away and walked back, opened up the store, and I was able to get three suits back --- including the dark suit for a funeral that I had to travel to, that I had dropped off at 9am that same Saturday morning. I was going to be sunk on Monday without that suit. No fuss, just values that have disappeared from 99% of American businesses. What a nice business. Thank you. Literally, you guys saved me. We were regular customers of Fairfax Cleaners for over seven years. However, something has clearly changed as of the last six months. When I arrived to pick up dry cleaned shirts, I was informed that one of them had a ripped elbow. Moreover, they insisted I had brought it in for cleaning ALREADY RIPPED. Huh? They told me that this is very common, happens all of the time and the elbow area of shirts "just wears out." In seven years, not one ripped shirt. All of a sudden they rip?? They went so far as to show me three shirts that had ripped in the cleaning process that very day! What was most frustrating is they took absolutely no responsibility for the garment except to not charge me. How sweet. When I did ask if they would pay to replace the shirt, they told me I just didn't understand and basically told me to leave. In short, if you value your garments and expect to get them back whole, don't come here. Go to a shop that will stand behind their work and not say "Fine. Goodbye!" after seven plus years of patronage. read more

Not good for high quality tailoring! Summary: I took several suits there for tailoring based on advice from a neighbor. They are good at hemming pants and sleeves, but anything more than that DO NOT GO! If you care about how your garments look - do not go here for altrations!!! The job: I had the jacket of a suit altered ($45). Needed the shoulders brought in 1/2 and inch. The huge flap: The first time I went after the jacket was complete - it had a huge flap of extra material in the front that cause a huge crease all the way down the front of the jacket. 2nd chance: She asked me to leave it and they would fix it. I did and returned 5 days later (when they asked). The flap had decreased significantly but now the area under the arm was very tight and uncomfortable. Obviously a botched job, but they refused to accept the facts. Final result: They refused to refund me or compensate me any potion for their mediocre work. I refuse to take any of my garments there for alterations. I would gladly pay a premium for better work - it's not worth it! read more

Unfortunately, our experience parallels that of customers John M., Diana E. and Amy H. We'd been a customer here for several years, despite their costing more than other local dry cleaners, recently taking stuff in for laundering and dry cleaning, including several very nice men's dress shirts. Aside from their not having pant suits ready when promised, and stains on garments submitted at prior visits still there when the garments were returned (despite their marking the stains with tape at take-in), one shirt came back semi-laundered this time with a 4" lateral rip now under the front pocket. Fairfax Cleaners stated this wasn't their doing because . . . they received the shirt in that torn condition. A great Land's End dress shirt is now history. Incredibly, owner Ms. Sook Lee then actually called us about an hour later at home to again affirm that the subject shirt was ripped WHEN THEY GOT IT (e.g., we gave them a torn / damaged short to launder). Guess again, Sookie. It was fine a few days earlier when turned over to you for laundering, with no tears or visible wear; the shirt had been worn the day before. I have more pressing priorities in my life than to argue over a shirt, so you won, Fairfax Cleaners - or did you -- as we take our business elsewhere. We don't need a hassle over something so simple, having garments cleaned, especially when we're being charged more than other places charge for the same service, and so many other places out there which want the business. I am a new customer at Fairfax Cleaners, and have just come to realize that one of the women who works at this place is shockingly rude. The first time it happened, this woman criticized me for not bringing in the claim slip (which I rarely do, since I know my order is logged under my phone number). And she didn't just make a friendly suggestion. She went on and on about how I shouldn't be so careless, and gave me that "shame on you" look. I thought it was weird, but at the time I chalked it up to a one-off experience with a quirky old woman. Today my son returned from a visit to Fairfax Cleaners with an expression like thunder. This same "quirky old woman" had chastised him for bringing in our return hangers in the same mesh bag as our shirts; demanded to know WHO had done such a stupid thing (it was me); insisted that next time we bring our clothes in some other type of carrier; quizzed him about who in our family wears the shirts he was delivering -- it was totally bizarre and insulting. I will never use this place again. There are plenty of other cleaners in McLean who treat customers with courtesy. This place is nuts. read more

I tried two of the other highly-rated cleaners in McLean and both of them took a week to complete my shirts. One of the highly-rated shops says they opened at 8am and I was caught waiting for them in the parking lot multiple times. It just happened too many times and in the end, the long wait for shirts was just difficult to plan around. I have been using Fairfax Cleaners for 3 or 4 months and I have been very impressed. Their typical turnaround time is 2 days, although they always offer to do it quicker. They are pleasant and professional and have done high-quality work.. I recommend them very highly. read more

This place is terrible. Pay attention to the negative reviews- they are true! I don't usually go to this cleaner but I was in the shopping complex so I dropped off a silk blouse. When I picked it up everything looked fine until I took off the plastic protective sleeve at home. I noticed an area that had a previous stain (reason I took it in) that now had completely damaged fabric over the stain. When I took it back to the store and explained the issue I was met with glares from the women behind the counter while they barked angrily in another language. They then . brought out a young man who told me I probably had moths in my closed that damaged the fabric! Of all the ridiculous things to come up with! There was absolutely no other item in my closet that had any moth damage. It was incredulous that he stuck to his story and refused to refund even partial of the $15 cleaning fee. I would stay away from this place if you care for your clothes! There are many other professional cleaners in the area that do a good job and have great customer service as well. read more

I took my beautiful embroidered down comforter to them for dry cleaning. When I picked it up today, after I was charged $48, I noticed that the comforter had holes, almost as if it was burned, the edge all around was frayed and torn, and most of the down was gone. They claimed that I brought it in in that condition. They did not offer to refund my money and offered no apology for the damage they caused. I am absolutely devastated about losing my beautiful comforter that cannot be replaced and cannot be salvaged. Not even an apology!!! Never use this dry cleaner! read more

My husband dropped off my $130 Calvin Klein studded dress (small flat studs, the dress is dry clean only) off here to be dry cleaned and they had him pay for it as if nothing happened. They never thought to mention they completely destroyed a dress I only had the pleasure of owning for a month. There were about 2 studs left on it out of the original hundreds. They had to have noticed hundreds of gold studs falling off! And the holes left from where they had been! I've had garments accidentally ruined before at other places, but usually a refund and an apology accompanies such mistakes. read more

I was a regular Fairfax Cleaners customer for over two years until recently. Unfortunately, their business practices have slowly gotten worse. On several different occasions, my shirts have had starch stains which I could not get out. On at least two occasions my shirts were not fully cleaned. During my last visit to Fairfax Cleaners, I checked my shirts and two of them had stains and one still had "ring around the collar". The manager told me that starch stains are normal and then he attempted to scratch the stains out with his fingernail. He could not get the stain out and then he stated that maybe they could scrub the dirty collar. His attitude was defensive and extremely rude. I will never use this establishment again. read more

I have used Fairfax Cleaners for over five years on a weekly basis for men's shirts, ladies suits and sweaters without any problems. I am used to having cleaners tear shirts, lose buttons etc. and am amazed this has never happened at Fairfax. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I have used them for tailoring as well, which was quick and well done. They have a first rate operation. I have always had great customer service from Fairfax Cleaners but today it was so terrific I signed up for yelp to write them this review. I forgot to pick up my clothes on a Saturday; the clothes included the blazer my five year old son needed to wear to Easter services the next day. I called at 5:55 and was so sad to hear they closed a 6pm. The gentleman working asked how far away I was from the cleaners and promised to keep the store open an additional few minutes until I arrived to pick up my clothes. It was just an extra 5-minute delay in closing for the cleaners but a huge deal for me that I got the clothes I needed in time. Thank you Fairfax Cleaners!! read more

I have been a long time customer and was reasonably happy with their service. A couple of weeks ago, I took a throw/blanket to be dry cleaned. When it came back, the texture was totally different. It used to be silky, smooth, soft. When it came back, it looked like the individual threads got a perm! It looked more like a stuffed animal than a silky throw. I went to talk to them about it and they offered to re-clean it at no additional charge. I thought maybe if they brushed it in the correct direction it would regain its texture? When it came back, it still looked ruined. I told the lady "I understand these things happen, but it is ruined and I will have to throw it out. I am not asking you to pay for the throw. Can I just have the $34 it cost me to have it cleaned (ruined) in store credit so that at least I don't feel like I paid to have it trashed?" She said no. No credit. She offered no apology or explanation. They, obviously, have lost me as a customer. read more
