We recently enjoyed the the Köld Kolsch from Fair State. We do like our kolsch beers and we enjoyed this one fairly well. It had all the features and highlights like a kolsch should. With this beer the flavor highlights are crisp ,clean, bready and some presence of graininess. It was a very refreshing beer and one that we liked quite a bit as the heat of midsummer cranked up a few notches when we enjoyed this Kolsch a few weeks ago. read more

Fair State is one of my favorite breweries in not only the NE Minneapolis area but Minnesota in general. The space, while not huge, is very open and inviting with lots of light wood and exposed brick. There is also an outdoor seating area! We are always on the prowl for breweries to add to our list when checking out new parts of the Cities. While I had heard of Fair State before, we realized it was the nearest brewery to us when we checking out nearby Dream Creamery. Street parking available around this location, but no formal lot. Easy to find taproom with plenty of seating available for a variety of group sizes. I will say that the taproom is very simple and doesn't glean much in the aesthetics category, but it gets the job done! There is a patio out back that allows dogs, but I don't think dogs are allowed in the taproom! Service was solid during our short interactions with the beertender! The real winner here is the variety of brews available in the taproom. Having visited many a brewery, my biggest frustration is when you see the same 7 beers on everyone's menu. That definitely isn't the case here! Fair State has something for everyone, including non-beer drinkers! We will definitely be back soon to check out their ever-changing menu! read more

Decided to come here with a couple friends after playing bingo at a different establishment. To our surprise, it was trivia night! We were too late to fully play along but we had fun anyway! The vibe is relaxed and feels like a family! The bartenders were extremely nice and made awesome recommendations! I tried a sour beer but also the mulled cider which was very good! My friends also had 2 different beers a piece and also had good things to say! Between the true Minnesota nice vibe and the delicious beers, I would recommend this to anyone as a first date or a quick spot to grab a beer! It's rare that I look forward to a yearly IPA release, but this Collab between Fair State Brewing Cooperative and Barrel Theory Brewing makes me run to the taproom every year for it fresh on tap. Mister Falcon: A Double Dry Hopped Hazy IPA brewed in collaboration between Fair State and Barrel Theory. They hopped this bad boy with Citra, Strata, and Columbus Cryo. Light gold in color with lemon rind and grapefruit aroma. Passion fruit, orange, and a very mild resin flavor. Bitterness is medium low, but still has that IPA bite. This lovely co-op is all about good times and beer. This place is located a hop, skip, and a jump north of downtown on Central Avenue. What's really nice about this location is that it is smack dab in the middle of some truly wonderful eateries that you can bring into the taproom, and a bakery next door (go get a pretzel to go with your beer). Speaking of the taproom. It is nice, clean, the beer tenders are affable, and know their beers. There is also an outdoor patio in the back too. Overall their beers are quite solid. The main attraction here at least for my group is their Roselle and their Vienna Lager are unmatched. Overall there is a beer at this place to match any palate and sensibility. You can also take some home with you. if you care for a funky adventure, keep an eye out for the Mixed culture festival head at Fair State. we attended last year and it was super fun! We visited Fair State Brewing Cooperative one weeknight. We sat at the bar and all three of us ordered tasting flights. I ordered the following ales: Spirit Foul IPA (6.3% ABV) (3.25 stars on Untappd) It's Gold, Jerry (4.7% ABV) (3.75 stars on Untappd) Medieval England Reference Strong Ale (5.6% ABV) (1.75 stars on Untappd) LÄCTOBÄC Sour Ale (5.6% ABV) (2.25 stars on Untappd) My two favorites were the Spirit Foul IPA and the It's Gold, Jerry. I was not a fan of the LÄCTOBÄC Sour Ale. While I do enjoy a good sour ale - I am finding more and more than Kettle Sours typically are one-note wonders from a flavor profile perspective. They lack the depth and complexity of non-Kettle sours. The staff was very nice. The brewery is dog friendly. This spot was hopping! Busy with lots of cool people and dogs! They were doing a fundraiser of some sort. All I know is I got a discount for being an REI co-op member! Woo Hoo! I think it was a Monday night deal. Their sour beer was so good! You'll have to check my photos I don't recall. Just go here and drink all of their beers! They have growlers and an insulated water bottle size. Perfect! They still have co-op memberships so you can be part owner! They are on the best street with eating options so you can bring some apps or dinner in to go with your beer choice. I really love this place! Brought here by locals we had a brewtastic time! I'm a stout/porter gal and the two I tried were both very good. Others enjoyed their choices. Bartenders are very friendly, the place is comfortable. Fair State certainly stands out for their business model (being one of the first co-op breweries that I am aware of), but ultimately it's their great beer and events that keep me coming back. Fair State doesn't really have a certain style that they're known for, but there's a stable of their beers I'll continue to gobble up, including Roselle, Mirror Universe, Strata and Megachonker (as well as their hard seltzers on occasion). The taproom is cozy and serves up a number of beers you'll only find on site. If you're looking for a nosh to go a long with your suds there are a ton of restaurants within walking distance to grab takeout from. I have attended a few limited releases at Fair State, but the premier event for me is Mixed Culture, which features a number of guest breweries and highlights all things sour and wild - here's to hoping that event returns in the future! read more

This is a really cool spot with great beers. I've tried a number of beers here and have enjoyed them all. Most recently, I've liked the Favor of the Foxes, a dark lager with coffee & vanilla. They do events pretty often. I went to their Bloody Mary Brunch, where they had cocktails on their menu and they had waffles available to purchase. They allow you to bring outside food, so I definitely recommend heading to Holy Mary across the street! Dogs are allowed too but I think the narrow store area is difficult for some dogs. There's a lovely garden in the back, which is great for dogs and hanging out on sunny days. read more

A great brewery to visit with friends, family, and your dog! They have a patio in the back. They also allow dogs indoors as long as the dog is well behaved and on a leash. One of my favorite beers is the extreme leisure - a sour made with guava. It's incredible! I would highly recommend ordering a pretzel from the place next doors. It's also great to follow fair state on Instagram. They release new beers every week so it's nice to hear about what they're working on if you think you will be in the area. They don't have a kitchen inside (other than warming up a pretzel) but they do allow food from outside vendors to be brought in and enjoyed. There are plenty of places to check out on central to get food and bring it over. Street parking available. If you do find yourself here fairly often, ask about becoming a member! read more

Visited during a layover at the Minneapolis airport on 05/26/19 and I was quite pleased this was NOT airport food lol Sat at the bar and service was excellent. Not sure what to order for lunch so I went with tacos - epic success! I don't have much to say except the service and quality of food were both pleasing. Waited all day to hit this place as it happened to be on my Minnesota breweries I have not yet tried. As soon as we arrived we noticed the place was packed. So we posted up to a long table near the main bar and order some delicious hazy IPAs, then order some barrel aged raspberry currant sour beer that happened to be released that day. Bought a bottle of Melee to go which my friends enjoyed me not so much and I definitely did not enjoy looking for the Plant Based four pack that was sold out but found down the street. No flavor at all drain pour two thumbs down. But the DDH we found were amazing and the cans were quite beautiful to post on beer page. read more

Update during NE Open Streets: Even though this brewery was jam packed, the line went in an orderly fashion. I'm sure that the staff was working at capacity! A cold beverage was just the thing during Open Streets! Their $5 brat were a great choice for Open Streets! And now for something completely different: I'm not going to talk about beer (at a beer brewing coop). I'm going to extol the beauty of the kombucha that they offer: delicious, refreshing and healthy citrus/rosemary! There are bicycle racks in front of the building (helpful to us bikers). We grabbed a couple of tasty treats from the German bakery next door (which I would recommend-if nothing more than a fresh pretzel to go with your beer). Why only 2 stars? Service was painfully S-L-O-W. I believe in tipping my server, but when it takes forever in the line at the bar, well, my generosity is the first thing to disappear. read more

Ok, I've been here a few times now. Or maybe 3. And slacking in getting out my reviews. There is so much I like about this sweet medium size brewery. -It feels Uber clean and modern in here. -They are truly dog friendly!! As in they gladly welcome all those sweet pooches INSIDE! -They have an outdoor patio as well. - Their gorgeous Rosè sour. It's just so nice!! The lack of the 5th star is due to no good dark beer (in the summer months of I understand correctly?) Maybe I'm still too new to beer drinking yet or maybe my taste buds are just that snobbish- either way, I like a good dark beer year round. Another con for me is that they have phased out their refillable glass growlers. I get that the big cans keep the beer better. I do, I get it. But...I like glass (again, maybe the eco snob in me). And I love the idea of having a cool growler to bring in to refill. AND I'm not a fan of drinking out of aluminum. They did have a few limited additions bottles in glass bottles which I purchased for toting off to a holiday picnic party (for a family that are also glass only snobs). So I appreciated that because it was a dang perfect summer beer. Will I keep coming back?? Yes. Mostly for that Rosè...and because they are within a decently shortish walking distance from me. read more

Beer is so good. Service and atmosphere is one of the best in Minnesota. They have several options for anyone who doesn't love beer as well.

The idea of a beer co-op was enough to get me in the door, what an awesome concept. It's a narrow taproom but has a decent amount of seating for its size, just be prepared to share space. You can also bring dogs here which is nice. I had the Mirror Universe IPA. I don't usually like IPAs but this had a perfect balance of fruitiness and hops and I loved it. My fiancé got the IPA classique which was also very flavorful. The Roselle is probably their most popular beer and it's delicious, a little sweet with a punch of sour. You can get this on tap at a lot of restaurants around the cities. I also appreciated how they had the list of restaurants you could order in from along with their contact info on the menu, convenient and no research required. read more

The only excuse I have for not having been here sooner is that I'm never in NE. But I finally made it, and had such a good time! Street parking was bountiful and easy to navigate, and the space itself is absolutely gorgeous. I was there with a friend on a Tuesday around 9, and there were a surprising number of people in there. Not crazy town, but definitely populated. Every beer I had was fantastic. For the longest time I had dismissed their Roselle because a) hot pink, and b) hibiscus, and finally decided to try it. Best. Decision. Ever. It was so bright and fresh and FLAVORFUL! I also had the Vienna Lager (now in cans!) and tasted a few of the other sour beers. Did not encounter a single one I didn't like. Also can we talk about the fact that they release a new beer *every* week?? Holy commitment, Batman. Also also it's a co-op! The deal just keeps getting sweeter. read more

As a co-op, Fair State is unique in the Twin Cities, as well as in the world. Along with this uniqueness, it has some of the finest craft beer I have had in the area as well. They specialize is creating sour beers, which dominate half of the menu. While I am not a big fan of sours, they have a big, solid selection of non-sours that are absolutely amazing. Atmosphere is a big part of the allure of Fair State. The lighting is ample but not too bright, the staff of friendly and personable, and it is almost always packed with fun and friendly patrons! Overall, this is probably the best craft brewer in the area. If you're going brewery-hopping in NE Mpls, make this your first stop! read more

Of the 8 breweries I visited, this one definitely had the largest selection of beers, and really, something for everyone. I must also say, it is a testament to the great people of Minneapolis that at 4 pm on a Thursday afternoon, this place was PACKED. Nothing says day drunk like a full brewery during work hours on a week day. My hats off to the city, and this brewery in particular. Now since they had such a wide selection of beers, I had to be very selective with what I chose. I opted for a couple 6 oz pours of their darker selections and they were very very good. As I looked around the room, the tables were filled with people drinking various styles of beers, so their clientele is well served. You could come back every day and never drink the same beer twice, how they keep that many on tap, I have no idea, but the concept of a brewery coop is a great idea, and i think more places should buy into it, it gives smaller brewers a chance to show off their brewering talents, and gives folks a one stop shop to try them all. High marks for sure for this place, and very friendly beer-pour-people. read more

Oh hello, scrumptious beer. I've never heard of a brewery co-op before, I'm not even exactly sure what that might entail, but if it means I can bathe in these great beers then count this girl in!! Today I had to go to Home Depot....and I hate Home Depot. It gets me all overstimulated-smell of sawdust, beeping sounds as those big hauler things come through, and not to mention the amount of brain power I use because I know nothing about anything in there. Anyway, I clearly deserved a beer for spending 15 minutes in that place. Fair State is probably the last NE breweries that I have on my list to try out. So sad I waited this long...it was great! The space is cool as you would expect. Brick walls, cool wall mural signage, neat lighting above the bar, and an entire wall dedicated to the co-op members. I read a little about what it means to be a member of their co-op and it seems pretty damn awesome, and the people on the wall look fun too! I ordered the Roselle and my beer partner drank the FSB. I took a drink of mine and thought it was the must delightful thing, and then I tasted the FSB and thought that was the most delightful thing. So basically, can I have two votes for the most delightful thing?! The Roselle has hibiscus flavors and is also citrus-y. It comes in a pretty pinkish-red tone too if you're one of those people who likes to coordinate their drinks to their outfits (I know there has to be someone out there who does that, right?). The FSB is a Saison aged in Whiskey. It tasted like someone mixed together a milkshake, whiskey, and beer and turned it into the most magical little potion.
