My first time trying Fair Oaks Burger. It came to my attention after learning it survived the Eaton Fire, while all its immediate neighbours perished. Four stars for the food and a fifth star for their survival and post-fire support for Altadena's recovery and rebuilding. Fair Oaks Burger is a long-standing institution, owned by a Korean family. The physical structure looks like a typical fast-food place, complete with a drive-through window, but it's smaller than most corporate fast-food restaurants. The indoor dining area has maybe 6 tables and a counter. There's an outdoor patio. I don't think the drive-through has a speaker to place your order; you order and pick up at the window. There's a single restroom, quite clean when I visited. The menu has a large selection of traditional burger fare, plus some Chinese and Mexican items. They have a breakfast menu too. I visited shortly after their 7 am opening. The full menu was available at that hour; I think breakfast stops in the afternoon. Here's what I ordered: 1) Chicken taco plate. Two tacos with rice and beans. I asked for crispy tacos, $1 extra. The taco shells appeared to be pre-fried and then filled, but the chicken and veggies were fine. The rice was appropriately orange-coloured but lacked flavour. The beans were good. 2) Chicken chow mein. Decent noodles and chicken with fresh veggies. 3) Egg roll. Quite large, filled with lots of veggies. Comes with a sweet chili sauce. 4) Onion rings. Perhaps a frozen product, but good quality and decent-sized serving. 5) Fried zucchini. Large, thick slices of zucchini, sliced on the diagonal so they were even larger, breaded and fried. The batter was different from the onion ring batter, more crisp. Served with ranch. One of the best fried zucchini dishes I've had from a burger joint. Only Pharos in Alhambra is as memorable (their zucchini is cut in wedges). Service was very friendly. I've found a new old place to support in Altadena. read more

Came here with my friend, who is an Altadena resident, and they told me this place is well-known among the locals. I couldn't believe how extensive the menu was. Besides burgers, they offer cheesesteaks, Chinese food, Mexican food, and even Thai curry! I was amazed. The restaurant is Asian-owned, which gave me confidence in trying something from their Chinese food menu. However, I ended up sticking with a traditional burger combo, even though I was really tempted to try the Thai curry. I saw someone order it, but they only had the vegan version available because they had run out of chicken. I'll save the Thai curry for my next visit when the chicken version is available. The portion looked big as well. The burger was freshly made and came with avocado. It was high quality and very delicious. The fries were decent as well. I also want to mention that the restroom was exceptionally clean. You can often tell a lot about a restaurant's hygiene standards by the condition of its restroom. Just note that the restroom entrance is located outside rather than inside the restaurant. If you're in the Altadena area, please consider supporting this local business. Love this neighborhood burger place And we're so happy they've returned after the fires of January 2024. As many have already stated, the food here is delicious, prepared when you order, and while the menu isn't huge, it is diverse. Mexican, Chinese and American comfort food staples. We had: *Carne asada salad- clean, fresh greens, Pico de Gallo, beans, avocado and plenty of perfectly grilled steak. Juicy and tender! *Jumbo egg roll- so big I could eat only one. No worries cuz I'll totally have it for dinner, lol. *House-made fried zuccini medalions- large, thick slices of zucchini, hand breaded and deep fried. Served piping hot. I'm at my favorite burger place in the area to check out their breakfast menu. Fast service. Customers waiting for their food look like they are regulars. Old school comfortable place. Breakfast crew very friendly and being from Hawaii, I love to hear the happy sounds of Spanish. Reminds me of Liliha Bakery back home with the Filipino language filling the restaurant. I was recently working and had the pleasure of having Fair Oaks Burger for lunch. We had a party of 30 people and they were kind enough to accommodate us. I can't speak to the inside as we got the food to go, but the staff was pleasant and very friendly. As a group we ordered the Pastrami Sandwhich, Cheesesteak, Chicken sandwich, and several others. For sides we got the fries, onion rings, zucchini and even the corn dog. I can't speak highly enough about our experience. The food was delicious. The sizes were quite large. We jumped on the Fair Oaks Burger bandwagon! How can one local small restaurant serve excellent burgers, Mexican food AND Chinese food at a reasonable price? Well I don't know! It's the stuff of superheroes, that's what it is. You've got to see and eat it to believe it. How many times had I ventured past this humble establishment while going to visit my MIL in Altadena, never knowing what magic awaited inside? After reading about all of the amazing things they've done for the community since the Eaton Fire, hubby and I decided that we needed to support a business in the local community. They are an Asian family owned business, they have all of the expected burgers, fries.. and they also have Chinese and Mexican fare! Who has been gate keeping this? The service is beyond friendly, they engage with the local community and knew so many people by name. It feels so friendly and welcoming, and they offer wall space to advertise local events. They are part of the fabric of Altadena! Hubby ordered their burger combo and I got the combo chow mein noodles. Both were outstanding and portions are generous. Today is the final day of cheeseburger week and I decided to try Fair Oaks burger for the first time. I looked over the menu and ordered the cheeseburger combo with a ice tea for $11.49. My order took about 10 minutes and when it was ready I ate outside on the patio. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon. On my first bit I was hooked. The bun was very soft and the patty was very tender and juicy. The burger had just the right amount of sauce. The fries were like steak fries and were nice and crispy. After a doctors appointment in Pasadena I found myself back in Altadena to try to get around the rush hour traffic I'd find myself in on the way home. Craving a bite of nostalgia because I used to live in Altadena, I had to go back to Fair Oaks Burger. The drive thru is so convenient and we only waited maybe five minutes for our food. My daughter and I both got bacon burgers with everything in them and they were delicious. The patty was very flavorful with the right amount of seasoning and the ingredients were all fresh. These were some of the best zucchini fries I've ever had as they weren't soggy or too thick. They were crunchy and seasoned well. My daughter also got some steak fries to share with her dad and she said they were really good. Their sides come in large portions, so there's more than enough to share. Everyone that we came into contact with here were warm, inviting and helpful. It felt like a quick in and out of the drive thru minus the processed fast food. I really need to come up here more often because they have a really great looking menu with more things that I want to try again. We learned about this place through KNBC-4 a few months ago. We are relieved they survived the Eaton Fire. We met the second generation owners, Christy and Janet. I used to live in Altadena and learned that this place opened after I moved out. Today, I had to have the Pesto Grilled Chicken Sandwich with steak fries and drink. It was deeelicious!!
