It's all about freshness and quality, and no other quick service establishment comes close. Pasadena #5 is In-N-Out's most iconic location. It is the oldest operating building company-wide and has always been on top as far as quality of food and service. For today's order I went for my go-to, a Cheeseburger with Grilled and Raw Onion, no Tomato and Fries Light-Well. Absolutely grubalicious! As usual, the Burger was made to order and cooked perfectly. This is supposedly the oldest In-N-Out still in operation in Southern California if not the chain. It's the original style layout with such an emphasis on drive thru that there's only outdoor seating. I was there on a Tuesday night and by 8 o'clock the car line was pretty long. I walked up and there was a bit of a wait to get a person at the window, but once business was done in about 10-minutes I had a good/lukewarm burger plus fries that were better than I-N-O average. Backing it all up was some of their tasty beverage to wash it down! Burger could have been a bit warmer, but it was good. This In N Out location is aaaaalways packed. I've never seen the car line less than the piano store. However I do see that the associates hustle and try to get the orders quicker by going further down the car line. Truly appreciate their hustling! Their kitchen is small so it's incredible how many associates they pack inside to make all that food! The parking lot only has 3 spots so I wouldn't count on being able to grab a spot so I usually try to avoid the car line and find street parking around the block and walk to place the order at their window. One rainy day, my daughters and I stopped by to claim their free cheeseburgers from the library book club and the nice associate Charbel offered them free hot cocoa with marshmallows. I enjoyed discovering this In-N-Out Burger location. It is the oldest operating In-N-Out Burger in the U.S. It opened in 1952 and is known as store number 5. Before In-N-Out Burger started opening in other states in the 90's, you could only dine at one in Cali. In my family, we would always stop at an In-N-Out on the way to Disneyland or SeaWorld for summer vacation. It was a fun treat and I would buy a t-shirt and wear it all the time. Even though we have them back in AZ, I still usually only visit them when I am in California. I enjoy keeping it a fun late-night treat for myself when I am visiting. I was in Pasadena recently and was feeling that late night craving for In-N-Out Burger. It was midnight and this location was the closest one to my hotel. I was blown away by the number of cars in line for this place. The line went several blocks. When I got a glimpse of the store itself, I could not believe how small it was. There was a double drive-thru, no dining room, ONE palm tree (most have two) and a small parking lot that can only hold a handful of cars. I had never seen an In-N-Out concept like this before. But then I did not know this was the oldest operating store before coming here. On top of the building was its trademark arrow pointing to the restaurant. Except this one was neon yellow and green instead of red. The sign is now a historic city landmark. Another fact that I read is that this store was the first to offer milkshakes. Because there was nowhere to park, I parked a couple blocks down the street and walked over. There were a few people in line at the walkup window. The kitchen area is so small and employees were bumping into each other constantly. I used to work fast food back in the day and cannot imagine working in these conditions. But the service was good and food came out in under 20 minutes. Because it was after midnight, there were several characters hanging out in the parking lot in the back of trucks. I definitely inhaled a lot of second-hand smoke that night waiting for my food. This is a busy In-N-Out location. I am not sure if I will have a chance to eat at this location again. But it was cool knowing that I ate at a historic In-N-Out Burger location. And as always, my Double-Double with fries hit the spot. read more

My gf always needs her fries well done and this place only having two fryers for fries can't exactly do it very easy. Tonight twice they were not cooked long enough to be well done. Our closest location is temporarily closed for refurbishment. When the mood for In-N-Out strikes, one will do whatever it takes to satisfy that craving. We were out doing errands and decided upon this location since we were in the area and it had just opened for the day. Apparently, people do have burgers for brunch! When we lived in this area 15 years ago, this was our closest location...we haven't been here since. This location is of the older style so no indoor seating and you walk up to a window to order. There are two drive-thru lanes and the employees have to be very careful as they're constantly dodging cars whole going to/from their prep area to cook area. There are maybe 2-3 outdoor tables. During peak times, traffic from Foothill Blvd to get into the drive-thru can be long. We got there about 25 mins after opening so virtually no wait. Service and quality is top-notch as expected. Needless to say we had the perfect lunch and may be back soon, depending on when our local one re-opens. Also, they have Cherry Coke which I like and don't think they had before. In-N-Out in general is overhyped, let's start there. That said, IF you have a particular order you like that hits for you (for me, it's a double-single with chopped chilis, add mustard and a Dr. Pepper), then it's good: it's fast, it's cheap, they wear little hats. My main issue with them is their FRIES SUCK. I pick on this one location bc it's the one I go to, but I feel like this is true of all In-N-Outs. To me it's literally the worst fries of any establishment I go to in the world. They're *tolerable* when fresh, but when they're NOT fresh the matchstick-thin, greasy, oversalted atrocities are (almost) worse than no fries at all. I don't get it. Maybe I'm just weird. My advice is to go here as late as possible (like 1:00). The line is shorter, the burgers are fresher... maybe you luck out on fries but probably not. Not only did the order taker completely ignore that I was on the verge of tears ordering my fries, but he was pretty fast and super smiley. Then when I got my fries, I also got a special surprise. I arrived a little after 9:30pm and noticed the line that was way too long to wait. I decided to see if I can park my car and order at the walk-up window. I placed my order for my burger, fries and drink. There was only 2 people in front of me, but it took about 10 minutes for me to get to order. Why does it take so long to take orders?! After ordering, I had a very, very long wait for my food. Had I known it was going to take over 30 minutes to get my food, I wouldn't have bothered. In total, it took 40-45 minutes since I got in line after 2 people to get my food here. Ok this has been my go to in and out for a long time... but I'm leaving a negative review because management needs to be made aware of repeat issues that need to be tweaked! This is the third or fourth time that my order is not right... and I don't find out until after I've driven away (drive through order)... I asked for specific modifications and they are not done (eg no spread, mustard fried). Also this time the fries were almost half missing and I asked for extra napkins and mustard and got ketchup only. ... not ok after being in the drive through line for over 20min read more

It's so hyped up that many out-of-state visitors make a point of eating at this restaurant during their stay. Some people will say the restaurant is overhyped, and others will say they love it. Just here to review wait times because they are loooong. Idk if it's just me but every time I eat here dining in, I have to carve out at least an hour out of my day lol. Let me explain. The experience is: wait 10-15 mins to place your order. Wait another 20-30 minutes minimum for you to get your order after it's placed. Then spend another 10-15 mins eating. It's wild. I feel like the drive thru line moves faster but that line is usually outrageous too so idk which is better. In out corporate needs to find a larger restaurant space for the workers of this location lol. They're crammed in a space that's literally smaller than a standard living room and probably serving 5k people a day. That's why the wait times are astronomically slow.
