Fair Expresso is a lovely and funky little fair trade cafe right in the heart of the city of Adelaide, in the Central Market just 1 minute's walk from The Hilton. The young girl with the funky hair style, piercings and tattoos provides friendly, warm, welcoming customer service. The cappuccinos are yummy and their 'Big Breakfast' (scrambled eggs, bacon, mushrooms, halloumi, lettuce, toast) is really delicious and filling. I think the plates have been purchased from an op shop. Old plates that Grandma has, or ones you ate off when you were growing up at home. They have fresh flowers on the tables, and the vases are beer stubbies. The music on the stereo included tracks by Vampire Weekend, Metric and MGMT.
The process is simple, and it works.
1. You line up.
2. You order.. The staff are friendly and kind to you.
3. You pay up front. The pricing is quite reasonable for what you're getting.
4. They give you a small metal bucket containing the table number, napkins and cutlery, which you take with you to a table of your choice. You can choose to sit outdoors or indoors. We chose indoors. It was nice.
5. They serve your coffees.
6. They serve your meals with a smile and a nice, friendly attitude.
Seems pretty straight forward and simple, but still very important to point out. Because some cafes and restaurants today have changed and complicated the ordering process so much, that you practically require degrees in digital technology and science to get your head around it (see my review for 'The Beach House' in Mount Gravatt, Brisbane). So it's wonderful to come to a place that makes the experience easy and stress free. And that's how it should be.
There's not a whole lot that's cool about Adelaide that I've seen in the short time I've been here. But Fair Expresso is one of the few nice experiences in Adelaide. And the fact that they have trams. Trams are great :) read more
