THE GREATEST STORY NEVER TOLD There is an ancient Chinese tradition whereby parents honor their first-born son with a long, elaborate name. Nicknames or shortening of any kind is forbidden. Alternatively, second-born children (and beyond) are typically given short, insignificant names. #notwoke An example of this is a fable passed down through the generations. A boy named Chow Chee Wai-Lin Xiao Qiang Peng (meaning: "The Greatest Ever To Be Born") and his younger brother Wong ("Small and Insignificant") are playing too close to their well, which they had been warned to avoid. As it is told, Wong falls into the well and his older brother runs to tell their mother. She tells him to summon the "Man with the Well Hoist". Wong is rescued and recovers. Days go by, and the boys are again playing near the well. This time, the older brother falls in. Chang runs to their mother and tries to tell her Chow Chee Wai-Lin Xiao Qiang Peng has fallen into the well. But Wong is panicked and out of breath, so he stutters and mispronounces his brother's convoluted name. His mother insists that he repeat the name-- but slowly and with respect. He tries repeatedly until he gets it right and is instructed to get the Man with the Well Hoist. They pull Chow Chee Wai-Lin Xiao Qiang Peng from the well, but because of the length of time he was submerged in the cold water, he gets hypothermia and sadly does not recover. This obscure tale gave birth to the famous Chinese saying: "Four things not come back: the wasted word, the spent arrow, the neglected opportunity, and boy with long name who falls in well." Legend has it that this is why the Chinese now give all of their children short names. #woke Pro tip: if you need a good "Man with a Well Hoist", the professionals at Fain will show up on time and get your well running again. They didn't find anybody at the bottom of our well, but did discover a seized-up motor, which was promptly and properly replaced.

We bought this property not having any experience with living off a well system. Turns out our tank was not holding air and had a leak in the piping system to our house. Ashley got a service person out right away and scheduled us to re-pipe the main. Ray was a pleasure to work with and very hard worker considering the Valley Center summer heat! We will for sure keep their contact information on hand if we ever need them. Price was right on our budget (ie: I didn't have to do the work). Thank you Ashley and Ray for a great experience.

After reading these reviews, I felt reassured that Ben Fain was reliable and honest. Unfortunately,…read moreBen's conduct with me bore little resemblance to all his positive reviews. Here is what unfolded recently ... My vacation home is a 150 miles away from my main home and I am hardly ever there. So I had to trust Ben completely when he said that he had replaced the well pump motor and that the well was now in good working order. Ben was not happy when I asked if it was okay to pay him in several days giving me time to verify the wells status. His previous temporary fix a week earlier didn't work at all, so I was a bit reluctant to pay this time without checking it out. Despite my hesitancy, he demanded that I pay him immediately via a credit card. So I paid in full based on what I believed was his honorable reputation. The well did work for a couple of watering cycles, but 2-3 weeks later it failed once again. Ben went out to investigate and stated that it was a minor issue and that he would fix it in couple weeks. About 2.5 weeks later, with temps close to 100 degrees and a lot of dying plants, I called Ashley his assistant to convey some urgency. She assured me that he would be out in a few days to make the repairs. Needless to say, he never showed up, nor were any of my increasingly desperate calls to his office ever returned.

ron review This is a…read moretale of two well companies. Our well opens into a sulphur deposit and what makes our water potable is a filtration unit that pulls out hydrogen sulfide (and iron) as our domestic water runs through it. This is the far less common way to treat that horrible smell, we know, but for now, it's what we've got ...Or had, until it blinked out first thing on a Saturday morning (of course). Fast forward to Monday morning. We tried to contact the company who installed it, but they'd sold off that part of their business. So, we called that company, left a message and didn't hear back from them. On Tuesday, we used their online appointment setting form and someone did come out on Wednesday morning. They readily admitted they didn't know anything about these filtration units which didn't surprise us as none of the well companies we'd previously dealt with did. But they told us they'd research them and figure out how to fix ours, assuring us they understood the critical situation we were in. When we hadn't heard back from them by Friday afternoon--now almost a week without potable water-- my wife suggested I reach out on the Anza Bulletin Board Facebook group, which is undoubtedly the best idea she has ever had because someone in the group suggested Ron Coleman of Artesian Water Well and Filtration Services. I looked at the company's profile page and it, in fact, listed sulphur removal system repair as one of the services they offer. Also, unbelievably, it stated 24/7 service. So, on a Sunday afternoon, on a whim of desperation, I called and left a message fully expecting not to hear back--despite what they advertised--till the next day. Wrong. I got a call back a couple of hours later and after explaining the problem to Ron, he agreed to come out for a look on Monday. On Monday, he came out to inspect the problem, contacted his supplier, tried to get a rebuild kit to save us some money. On Tuesday, the rebuild kit for that model having been discontinued, he drove out to Ontario to pick up the necessary replacement part. On Wednesday, he installed it. On Thursday, he called to make sure everything was ok (which, happily, it was). And that other well company, the one we first contacted? We still haven't heard back from them. Ron and I had a chance to chat for a few minutes and it's clear he knows a few things. He knows how to show up when he says he will. He knows how to go above and beyond to make his clients happy. He knows how to be honest, courteous and respectful and to treat water emergencies like the emergencies they are. And he's also pretty darn good a fixing stuff. Here's the thing. There are some well companies out there that somehow manage to keep themselves in business, (God only knows how). There are some good, reputable companies out there to be sure. And then there is Artesian, which as far as I'm concerned, is in a class all by itself.
