Brooke Shields I am not - in the eyebrow department, that is. Often regretting the childish mistake of over plucking my eyebrows starting in junior high, I finally did some research about permanent make-up as a resolve. I had heard about Faces Plus and Mei through my bff, Cindy H., who had her eyebrows tattooed there the summer before. They looked natural and great, so I booked an appointment for myself and Cindy H.'s free touch-up. I brought the $200 in cash as requested to my appointment, the lady in the front applied a numbing agent on my eyebrows, and I laid down in front of Mei. She drew in a shape and showed me, allowing Cindy H. and another friend to look at it and give feedback. After they approved, Mei went to work.
I have a high propensity for pain so the actual tattooing process wasn't too awful. Mei got through it pretty quickly and gave me a mirror to look at it - loved! After telling me how "beautiful, beautiful" they looked, I was done and the lady in front gave me a gel-like ointment to put on my eyebrows throughout the healing process. The healing process is actually the worst step - the pain of being tattooed is the least excruciating step in my opinion. Going to work and being self-conscious that everyone would notice was entirely too distracting, and when the scabs started to fall off - even more so. But they healed fine, even though I did get curious and allowed part of the scabs to fall off early which ended up being lighter than other parts of the eyebrow. My only complaints about the first time were 1) one eyebrow was longer than the other and 2) one was darker than the other. I figured I'd get this fixed in my free touch-up appointment. 4 stars for the first visit.
Fast forward a year to this past month, when I came back for my free color touch-up. In my naiveté, I came in with grandiose expectations - that Mei would correct the longer eyebrow, make them darker, and make them fuller. Issue #1: the lady in the front used the same q-tip to apply the numbing agent on me that she used on the woman before me. Uhh, okay, gross? I shrugged it off and laid down confidently before Mei, telling her exactly what I wanted to fix. She started working on and the pain was a bit sharper than I remembered - but I managed to power through. Issue #2: At the end, she showed me a mirror. I told her I wanted them fuller. She said that she wouldn't make them fuller/thicker because it would look weird since there wasn't any hair in that area. I insisted again, but she pushed right back. I acquiesced, but I wasn't happy. When she was all done, she rushed me out, and the lady in the front handed me a white cream ointment to apply twice a day. Then they said good bye as if I were expected to leave immediately (issue #3).
While my eyebrows are darker than before, I can't say that she fixed the uneven length of my eyebrows like I requested - which I had clearly requested and explained it was what I wanted to fix in the beginning. Also, I didn't achieve the thicker look which was a let down. I was disappointed by the more business-like, rush you in-and-out attitude on my second visit. 2 stars for this visit.
