Before meeting Dr. Kim, I was convinced that he wouldn't be able to help me. After three previous rhinoplasties and dealing with my overly crooked nose and deviated septum, I expected him to tell me--like other plastic surgeons had over the years--to leave my flawed nose alone. To my surprise, after his assistant took pictures from all angles and he examined my nose, he said he could help me and that I was a good candidate! Two months ago, I underwent revision rhinoplasty with Dr. Kim, and I'm extremely happy with the results. He guided me every step of the way regarding what to expect from the surgery. Firstly, he informed me that my nose would be swollen and appear "big" for several months and that it might take up to 1-2 years to settle into its expected shape. He also mentioned that some asymmetry would remain, but that it would be significantly improved. Even while still swollen, I can see a huge improvement, and I've already received compliments from three friends about my new nose. I can breathe better now and have less sinus discharge. Most importantly, I no longer feel self-conscious about my nose. Each day, it seems to be getting a bit smaller, which is exciting. The renditions he provided of what my new nose would look like closely match how my nose appeared right after surgery before the swelling began. It has been 6 months since my revision rhinoplasty with Dr Kim and I absolutely hate my nose. The scar tissue build up on the left side makes my nose incredibly uncomfortable. The LCSG is not placed correctly on that side and probably needs a revision. The nostrils are not even and he shortened my nose. I spent $35,000 and traveled from out of state and have serious regrets. Don't expect any after care if you are an out of state client. He had the nerve to accuse me of having BDD and said 90% of his patients have BDD - when in reality he just didn't want to take fault for his lack of aesthetics. I do not recommend Dr Kim for revision rhinoplasty. I wish I had studied his before and afters longer and trusted my gut when his morph looked terrible. I avoid mirrors and still get nausea from the total identify loss his lack of communication and style has caused me. He took liberties on things we never talked about. I have seen both Natalie and Sunny to receive tox injections on a schedule of about every 2-4 months for the past year to address hereditary corner eye folds and a wrinkle forming above my nose. As a newbie, I was wary of how heavy-handed some providers can be in pursuit of profit, with tox and fillers being doled out in large doses for the sake of $ without consideration for a patient's end result. I even have a few close friends who have been over-done by injectors who were unable or unwilling to be honest with them about what would look good and when to stop. I was apprehensive about starting cosmetic enhancements due to fear of ending up not looking like myself. However, my first impression of Dr. Kim's office was - WOW, everyone working in and patronizing this place looks so naturally beautiful! No overfilled lips, no frozen faces, just really classic, effortless beauties. A good sign! As a complete beginner to cosmetic injections, having Natalie as my first injector was an ideal experience. She is extremely knowledgeable about anatomy and science, has a gentle and enthusiastic bedside manner, and is just generally a lovely person. We started slow and have worked up from about 18 units to about 28 units of Botox and/or Dysport. After a year(ish) of regular visits, I am feeling more confident and empowered about my decision to pursue this type of treatment. I will mention that I have been told they are pricey by comparison to other places in the city. Last visit, I paid $398 for 28 units of Dysport with a small rewards credit applied. I'm sure there are "better" deals out there, but the location, incredible office and injector staff, and overall experience makes it worth it from my perspective. I went to Dr Kim for a rhinoplasty because he came highly recommended, but I am unhappy with the results and extremely disappointed with how he handled our conversation about a revision. The new nose is unattractive. I have multiple problems with it, but the main issue is how large one of the nostrils is. I also used to have a cute upturn at the end of my nose he got rid of even though I specifically asked him to keep it. My new nose doesn't look at all like the renderings he showed me. When I talked to him about a revision, he told me he couldn't see the flaws I was talking about. I pulled up photos to show him exactly what I meant, and he told me "it's the lighting." He also told me I have "body dysmorphia". My family and friends agree that he messed it up, so I know I'm not just seeing things incorrectly, as he would like me to believe. In our first meeting he told me his revision rate is very low for the field. Obviously your revision rate is low if you refuse to accept you did a bad job and shut down conversations about revising it. read more

After having a horribly botched septo-rhinoplasty 4 years ago, I was extremely cautious in picking my revision doctor. After fully vetting 4 different surgeons, I chose Dr Kim as he did not over promise anything and was also honest about the stiffness given need for rib grafting. I almost did not go with him because of fearing this stiffness. In the end, I cannot recommend him enough and am certain he can handle even the most complex of rhino/ revision rhino cases. His work has so far exceeded my expectations and I am only 6 weeks out and still have quite a ways to go on swelling. It is also stiff as he warned but that will soften a bit and even if it does not, I am still so much happier with my nose that I would still trade this mild stiffness for getting rid of my old, disfigured nose. I can also breathe 10x better. I honestly do not know how he got something that was so incredibly messed up to look like a normal nose again. If you are debating working with him and are not sure if he is the right fit, I can tell you that he undersells his ability and talent. I'm still waiting for my final result, but it's been 3 weeks and I can already breathe so much better than before. I came to Dr. Kim hoping to improve my breathing and to have a more natural nose aesthetic at the tip. I had an overly rotated tip (ski slope nose) from a primary rhinoplasty. One of my functional concerns was that my nostril collapsed in and restricted my airflow. Dr. Kim was careful in both our consultations to not overpromise. He didn't guarantee any perfect outcome, but explained techniques that he believed would improve the breathing. Fortunately, it was a success and the breathing is improved. My nose feels stronger, more structurally stable, and more like my original nose. It's still too swollen to say much about the aesthetic, other than it looks much smoother, and more natural. One of the tricky things about cosmetic surgery and rhinoplasty especially, is that no outcome is guaranteed. There were things that I hoped for that Dr. Kim was not able to do. One is the placement of my nostrils. My columella wouldn't come up so I am mildly disappointed that we couldn't achieve that outcome given the high cost of the procedure. However, I'm grateful that above all, Dr. Kim prioritized function and structure. One thing to add: Dr. Kim and I discussed turbinate reduction to further improve breathing. One of the risks we discussed was empty nose syndrome (ENS), so I decided against it. I'm glad I didn't do it. My breathing is fine without doing that, and the anecdotal evidence for ENS online is pretty terrifying. Dr. Kim even transparently said that he's caused it accidentally before, and there's no guarantee we'd avoid it. So look into that if you haven't. I was grateful for his transparency. He's confident in his skill and also honest about risks. Surgery day: Greenbrae Surgery center seemed old school and not very comforting compared to centers I've used in UT. Your family can't enter the building ever. You enter and check in alone. Leave valuables at home, because everything is left in a locker and you wear just a hospital gown. There's no private room-- you are in beds separated by curtains. They put the IV port in before you walk to the surgical room. The anesthesiologist didn't calm me, didn't have great bedside manner, and I think she overdid my dosing. I've gone under multiple times before, and I've NEVER been so sick instantly upon waking up. The aftercare nurse rushed me and wanted me out asap (I got the impression she was eager to go home.) I just told her I wasn't ready. Very sharp contrast to Dr. Kim's really gentle and confident bedside manner. Also, the surgery center can charge you ~ $900/hour that the surgery goes over. I'm glad I did this, but I cannot understate how emotionally and physically intense this whole experience was. Be prepared going in. Be sure your values are aligned with Dr. Kim. He does functional and natural. And he is very skilled. I'm grateful and confident in my Kim nose. Do your research and make sure you like his style. Functionally speaking, you're in capable hands, and that is impossible to overstate in the rhinoplasty industry. read more

Dr. Kim saved my self-esteem and sanity. I know how big a statement that is, and I don't write this review lightly. I came to him a broken woman inside. To understand why Dr. Kim is so incredible, you need to know a little about the road that led me to him. After hating my God-given nose since childhood, I had always dreamt of a nose job. I chose a surgeon before my 21st birthday who not only didn't perform the surgery as described in our consultations, but also, my nose looked deformed after the swelling subsided. I went back to that same surgeon for a revision. I know, I know, why did I go back? In my defense, the year was 2002 and 2005, respectively. The internet wasn't what it is today. I figured - he messed it up, he can fix it right? Wrong. So, so wrong. After the revision, I was scared. A single, young twenty-something in an increasingly image-obsessed world thanks to the popularity of MySpace (yes, I'm dating myself) and HotorNot.com, I didn't know what to do. The tip of my nose had cartlidge protruding out of the front; there was cartlidge in a weird shape at the top of the tip. In the cold, my nose became more deformed! I felt mortified to be out in public. I felt not worthy of love. I felt like I should be banished to a tower isolated from all the normal humans. Begrudgingly, I went back to this doctor a third time, but instead of wanting him to fix it, I asked him who *else* could fix it. Rudely, he gave me a name of a pretty famous revison doctor in Oakland. I saw that man, and the consultation was scary at best. His fee was twice what I had already paid, which took me forever to save for anyway. I couldn't afford it. So, off I go, spending the next TWENTY years of my life wearing my hair in my face, trying to contour the heck out of my nose to fix the deformities, turning down trips to the snow, knowing what the cold did to worsen the optics of my nose. One day, I finally mustered the courage to search for a surgeon to fix the horror sticking out of my face. Another surgeon provided me with Dr. Kim's name. Truthfully, I had a consultation with him 17 years after my initial surgery. That meeting was fantastic. He listened with empathy, looking at my nose and understanding what had happened before him. He took pictures and showed me realistic ways to improve it. He made no promises that it would be perfect, and I was 10000% ok with that. All I wanted was to not look like and feel like a freak. Was my nose really that bad? Well, it depends on who you ask. Some people noticed it, while others did, but the point was I did. I left my time with Dr. Kim thinking he was too good to be true. Having been burned so badly by my previous doctor, I was terrified to trust someone again. A third surgery is not to be taken lightly. Fast forward to 2022. I'm in my forties, married to the love of my life. I thought, 'Do more research on Dr. Kim and talk to him again.' Best. Thought. Ever. That second consultation with Dr. Kim was even better than the first. He was thoughtful, truthful, and patient. We talked through everything. Since the first consult with him was a few years prior, he retook pictures and discovered that my nose was collapsing on itself. The first surgeon took out so much cartilage that my nose **was falling inward**, resulting in me being unable to breathe out of my right nostril, a change that happened so gradually that I didn't notice. So now, I hate how I look, and my nose is falling onto itself like Michael Jackson. I had no choice. I had to move forward, knowing that Dr. Kim wouldn't let me down. The surgery date was set for two months later. His staff was so kind and supportive. They are amazing people, truly. My surgery took 6.5 hours, and he completely reshaped my nose. Dr. Kim is a true artist. I cried crocodile tears when the splints and tape were removed, and I felt human for the first time in my 41 years. I felt pretty. I don't have to contour my nose anymore. I don't have to shy away from pictures or hide behind my hair. My nose blends into my face - it is normal. I can breathe in my exercise classes. My life has done a complete 180, and it is all thanks to Dr. Kim. I will never be able to find the right words (I can't even find them even now as I tear up typing all this out) to express my gratitude. I got chin filler and Botox done for the very first time EVER by Natalie, and I am so, SO happy with the results! I came in seeking preventative treatment for lines and general consultation, and went into a consultation with Natalie after seeing some of her work on Instagram. She was so knowledgeable and kind, explaining every part of the process including the pros and cons, along with her personal recommendations. She actually helped explain and veered me away from fillers in a particular area, explaining how it wasn't worth it based on the symptom, and gave me an alternative (and cheaper) solution instead, which helped gain my trust in her helping me find the best solution for me! She has an expert touch - the fillers were not painful at all, and I didn't bruise either! I got what I wanted in the end, which was a natural enhancement of my features and prevention of deeper frown lines. Every step of the way she was reassuring and made sure I was comfortable as we went through the procedure. Price-wise, I had two units of Sculptra, and two shots of Botox, putting the grand total at $1640. I believe that each unit of Sculptra was $730-$750 (I can't quite remember). When I say that Dr. Kim changed the course of my life, I am not exaggerating one bit. I walked into Dr. Kim's office in the summer of 2019 as a dejected twenty-something-year-old, ready for him to tell me that my nose was beyond repair. I've had my nose broken several times as a child, and eventually had a septoplasty done in my early 20s to correct my horrible breathing issues. The surgery left me worse off than before - they removed so much cartillage that the tip of my nose drooped and I developed a pronounced bump. My breathing issues were also not solved and were the same or worse as before. After years of hating the shape of my nose and struggling to breathe or sleep (I had to wear breathe right strips every night, couldn't eat food with my mouth close without feeling like I was drowning, etc) I saw Dr Kim, who has incredible bedside manner. He was kind, patient, and answered all of my questions honestly. I was going back and forth between him and Dr Ransom, but Ransom felt rushed and abrasive to me. He also told me he'd use cadaver tissue to rebuild my nose, while Dr Kim said he'd only use cartillage from my own body, which after doing more researched seemed like the option I was most comfortable with. I had my revision septorhinoplasty with Dr Kim 6 weeks ago (just had my post op today) and I am SO happy with the results. For the first time in my life, I can BREATHE! And my nose feels strong. Way stronger than before, when my nasal passages would collapse every time I breathed. My nose ended up being in such bad shape (the original surgeon had removed more cartillage than Dr Kim had hoped) so I had a graft from my rib taken to rebuild the structure of my nose, which I see was the right choice. I also love the shape of my nose- I look so natural and like "me." No more bump, but also I don't have an upturned pig nose. No one has even noticed unless I point it out to them (which was hugely important because I didn't want to look "done"), but the difference to my confidence is astounding. Today I also decided to spring for my first round of Botox ever with Sunny. She was so kind and lovely - not pushy at all, but she gave me honest feedback to address my intense TMJ (my jaw muscle is super overactive which causes pain) as well as my desire to prevent future wrinkles. I decided to start with botox in my forehead and "eleven" lines to see how I like it, and then possibly go in for the TMJ muscle at a later date to address the jaw tension there.
