short dude who works there is always in a bad mood. barely helps anyone and seems like a loose thread. someone needs to teach him how not to mumble and be kind and pleasant to the customers. everytime I've gone in there he acts like he's doing me a favor by helping me. he's pretty jerky. read more

Very helpful, friendly service from both gentlemen working last night, Saturday evening, at 6:30. I am not a real crafter or sewing maven, yet they did not make me feel like a dope because I didn't know what I wanted. Because the upholstery fabric is basically in two places, one darker and one lighter, I had a reasonable number of fabrics to choose from and I found a stunning one, only $15 / yard. I will be recovering a little stool / bench that I want to tie into a little desk. The desk is white and I don't want to paint the legs. The fabric is gorgeous!!! $8 for half a yard, yet the employees were outstandingly helpfull and kind. Parked right in front! read more

Fabric Planet - Fabric to tie the pieces together. Perfect! $8! - Fabric Stores Near Me - Venice, California

I went in looking for a specific fabric. They were extremely helpful and found me what I needed. Love this place and the staff.

My first and last time at this place! I spent $105 on three pair of pants at this place. Two of the pants are completely ruined. The first time I picked up the pants (it took 12 business days), they did not fit correctly. They told me to bring in a pair of jeans that fit perfect, so they could have a guide. I did that. The 2nd time I went in to pick up the pants are shown in the pictures. I called & let them know the pants still don't fit. They said the "guide" jeans I brought in were a completely different fit and didn't help. I said, "Well why didn't you call and tell me that? I could have brought different jeans for you." I asked multiple times if I could bring in the jeans to show them the poor alternations or send in pictures, so they could see. The guy said, "I don't see how that's going to help because we altered the jeans based on how you said you wanted them." I would never ask for my jeans to be altered in the way they are shown in the picture! They don't even fit! The seams don't line up. After some back and forth, he offered me a partial refund. I can't even take these jeans to another tailor because they are so tight due to so many alterations! I have to throw them away! The guy only offered me a FULL refund after I said I would post the pictures in a review! Then he tried to guilt trip me into not posting a review. Insane! Absolutely, terrible customer service. I'll never return! Do not bring your garments here! read more

I was in a time crunch this week to have a dress altered for a wedding this weekend, and desperately needed to match a tricky green/gold/ochre tone to make straps. All three employees there (two guys and a girl, sorry I didn't get your names!) stopped to help me find the exact perfect fabric with just a photo of the dress fabric on my phone, and were so sweet about it. I was in and out in under ten minutes with exactly what I needed. My new favorite place :) read more

I've been wanting to check out this place since I moved back to LA since it would be awesome to have a good fabric store near by. I was not disappointed. This place has a decent amount of fabric, friendly staff, and the prices seemed alright too. There are a lot of cool add-ons and trimmings you can get for your garments that have sequins and flowers and leather. The selection might not be as good as Mood over on La Cienega but for a store nearby with decent prices, this place can't be beat - and it feels like a *real* fabric store, not some hobby shop with a fabric section. I'll definitely be back here. Also, they advertise outside that they offer sewing classes (but I haven't looked into it, myself). read more

I love this place. Every time I go in, the staff is so helpful and friendly. They are also very knowledgable. It reminds me of a small town local business. I also always find exactly what I'm looking for. read more

Fabric Planet fits it's name and image precisely as the store contains a wide variety of fabrics which includes a striking array of organic fabrics. In addition to that there is a delightful eco-friendly feeling to the place as there's flood of natural lighting, enough space in the store to navigate a stroller, and they use recycled fabric for a bag. This is a pleasantly striking contrast to the dreary run of the mill fabric store *cough*joannes*cough* and to the post apocalyptic disaster area they call a fabric store up the street. I am actually impressed by how highly organized and how easy it is to navigate the store and with how attentive and helpful staff are. This is the fabric store I've been looking for! read more

Fabric planet is my go to place for fabric. Everyone there is so nice, they have so many options, and they also have a HUGE array of fabrics. It's really cool! read more

Great shop! Good variety of fabrics But One person working there wears a mask, one does not. That made me uncomfortable. For that reason, I won't be going back until the pandemic is over :/ read more

This is the place to go if you need something tailored correctly and perfectly. It's not the dry cleaners. It's for your high end stuff and your imagination. They even sewed fairy lights onto a ball gown for my daughter. And the best part is the people are friendly and professional. read more

Excellent selection and super friendly service. They also do wonderful custom sewing jobs. I had a cushion and slip cover made and they came out great. More importantly, I'm a bit of a pain in the A and they were nothing but polite and professional every step of the way. Highly recommend and looking forward to going back. Thanks! read more

Love this place.... & Jacob, he's always a good vibe, & ready to help! Stop by when you can!

Worst service! Was told that I was "rude" because I was demanding they stop putting me on hold after the 8th time on hold. The couldn't locate my order that I PAID for, by my invoice number nor my telephone number nor my name!!!! They told me they are "doing a favor" by looking for my paid order!!!! And that I "wasn't being nice,". Of course I wouldn't be nice if you told me there's no record of my PAID order by name or by invoice ? Horrible rude entitled staff with poor customer service! you're better going to other competitors. These stores are a dime of dozen don't waste your time driving on heavy traffic on Lincoln. You will walk out unsatisfied and left with a bad taste in your mouth from the experience. read more

Venice locals love Fabric Planet. They are friendly. I also use them for sewing and upholstery projects. They deliver on time and with the project how asked for it. read more

This place seemed like a higher end fabric store, so I went here for wedding material. They have a really nice selection of unique material. It's a little more expensive than the store I normally go to in Hawthorne, but its worth it because everything is organized and easy to find. The service is great. Other stores, I find myself wondering looking for help for like an hour, they make it easy to get in and out. You leave happy. They put my material in a huge piece of fabric they made into a tote. I could be wrong, but I thought I heard them mentioned on RuPauls Drag Race, so thats exciting. The only reason I don't come here more often is because the traffic on Venice is bad in the evenings. read more

We were out-of-town customers & so happy to find this place! The staff was friendly & helpful. The fabric was good quality, at reasonable (not cheap) prices. Lots of beautiful silk, knits & home decor fabrics, in addition to trims & elastic. I will definitely stop by again when in town. read more

Jacob and the team are always amazing. I designed many costumes for Ballet and when working on the Nutcracker I had to go in at least 10 times to get needed items. Every time the service was amazing. I would recommend anyone to shop here (and the dog is a cutie too!) read more

Great selection of fabric and outstanding service! I shop here for unique fabric when i dont have time to go downtown. Very helpful and fast service. Nice array of trims, fabric, and buttons. Parking can be tough in this area, but there usually aren't too many people in the store at one time, so you can just park outside the store. I've had a lot of luck trolling through the scraps boxes to find things for small projects. read more

I have worked with Fabric Planet on several projects for my business and I've never had anything but a great experience. They have gone through each step of the pattern making process with me, taking my feedback along the way and creating a final product that is valuable and beautiful. The pieces they have made for my business, consistently sell out and I get only good feedback from my customers. The quality of the fabric they use is excellent and so is there work process. Of course in Los Angeles there are thousands of pattern makers and sewers, but I have found that working with Fabric Planet is the most efficient and effective while being consistently great quality. read more

I walked out of the store exclaiming, "I LOVE this place!" On a bridesmaid mission to track down some tulle and burlap trim to decorate for my bestie's wedding I originally planned on just hitting up Joan's but my Yelp App showed me this treasure was right down the street from my gym. I walked into a maze of fabric bolts. I felt a bit dazed but an employee immediately saw my look of distress and came to my rescue. She directed me to the bolts of tulle at the front of the store ($1/yard, what a steal!) and then to the massive wall of trim. No burlap ribbon but I did find several good options in the color I needed and settled on a trim that was also super inexpensive at only 50cents/yard. Everything was bundled up for me to go in a handmade green jersey fabric tote bag. She made it right there in front of me! It's not anything fancy but I was incredibly excited about this and will be reusing the bag for things like laundry or the beach. Private parking lot and nearby free street parking. You will not have a problem finding parking here. There's also a very cool wall mural on the side of their building that would be a great photo shoot spot. read more

I purchased blackout fabric from Fabric Planet. The fabric did not perform as advertised: It let light through. I had to go to Pavilion Fabric (on Pico), who sold me some stellar blackout fabric that did the trick. I returned the faulty fabric to Fabric Planet, and was not refunded (i had spent $170). I was referred to the owner to discuss the matter further. He did not reply to my emails. When I finally managed to get hold of him (by phone), he refused to refund me, called me "entitled", and ultimately hung up the phone on me. Would never go back. read more

This is the coolest little shop! It has sort of a Greenwich Village feel to it. I've passed by it so many times and never even noticed it until I found it on Yelp. I was in a pinch on a Sunday. Jo-Ann's and Michael's didn't have what I needed but Fabric Planet did, and at a very reasonable price. This has happened more than once. They always have what I want. I usually go in and out in a rush. But one day I'm going to take the time to linger and look at the cool accessories and embellishments they have at the counter. I must mention that the salespeople are really nice and helpful and were actually excited when I told them I read good reviews about them on Yelp. read more

Great for odds and ends. Zippers for $1. But 5 bucks a yard for plain, solid cotton--Fabric Planet gives me pause. I get it, you people love Fabric Planet. I'm not in love with it. That's fine. I don't get the popular fascination with Nutella and bacon. That's cool. Keep what you love. But the prices people seem willing to pay for both is bewildering. That's Fabric Planet. 11 miles east of this very location is Los Angeles's vibrant--and I will note--affordable fabric district. I found the same 100% cotton, light blue for $2.50 a yard. No haggling. I did buy a zipper and some pretty buttons though. On the cheap. Important note, they don't carry patterns. Not a big deal: the name on the building says "Fabric Planet," not Joann's Fabrics & Crafts". Just look through the McCall's books and order the pattern online for 1/3rd the price. If you do that sort of thing. read more

It was a little bit tricky to initially navigate the store, but the employees were all pretty helpful. Went in there on Friday. Surprised they were even open during this pandemic. Are they an 'essential' store? Anyhow, I looked around for awhile. No one offered me any help, so I got in line at the counter behind a woman who was being helped. The man helping her stopped and gave me a dirty look. He said 'Can I help you?, very rudely. I said 'yes, I want to buy some material' I was shocked by how rude and abrupt he was. He got my material, rang it up and walked away. I didn't even know he was finished with me until I saw he helping someone else. No receipt, no 'thank you'. When I got home I unfolded my material. One of the piece was supposed to be 1/2 a yard. Instead of a rectangle piece of material, it was a triangle, 20" at one end and 12" at the other. Over priced, poor customer service, rip off. Never again. read more

The ladies who work here are very nice as well as helpful. Now that Lincoln Fabrics has closed, its the most convenient fabric store in the area. The selection isn't bad. However, they are a bit pricier than I would like. I can't really comment on the thoroughness of this review, but I really enjoyed this place. I stop in fabric stores a lot and look forward to those that are trying something different. I think I liked the bit of chaos about the place (will try to post a photo for reference), but the woman at the counter was super mellow, and very helpful. The upholstery material is what I had my eye on, they had some outdoor options as well. All the upholstery I was pulling out seemed to be in the $20/yard range but of course there were some more, or less. They had one section of silks (I don't mean upholstery here). Looked like they had some interesting buttons, and a whole wall of ribbon-y sundry things, some foam for cushions, etc. read more

Unfortunately this is not covid related. I wish it were just a slow time to get things done with a superior product but that was not the case. We worked with both Jacob and Renata to construct a sample for our brand. I am writing this to warn people who are starting out with their brand or someone looking to have a special piece made, do not waste your time or money. They outsource their pattern making and are terrible at communication. They also are condescending and hand you a product that looks like a person that just started constructing patterns. Paying over 1500 for a pattern and two constructed samples is absurd especially when you are a startup fashion company. In the time they made our product I had four other protos made patterned with amazing communication for about 1/8 of the cost. Do yourself a favor and go down to the fashion district and ask around for referrals. Luckily I can just write this off as a loss. read more

Amazing store - so glad I gave it a chance! They have fabulous notions, grouped by color and style, as well as professional-level appliques and unusual trims. Prices were fair and competitive, and the staff knew their merchandise very well. I will definitely be back here and am glad I gave it a chance. Go when you have time to browse and take in the variety of items. It's a bit like a trip to Pier One or World Market - things are nicely merchandised and attractively displayed. You won't be disappointed. This is my new go-to source for everything related to textiles. One caveat - this is not a craft store, nor a Michaels/Joanne Fabrics kind of fabric and notions store. No puffy glue. No bead looms or plastic storage bins. Just lots of high-quality (industrial/professional) fabrics and trimmings (and related supplies) at very fair prices for the area. read more
