I've been wanting to check out this place since I moved back to LA since it would be awesome to have a good fabric store near by. I was not disappointed. This place has a decent amount of fabric, friendly staff, and the prices seemed alright too. There are a lot of cool add-ons and trimmings you can get for your garments that have sequins and flowers and leather. The selection might not be as good as Mood over on La Cienega but for a store nearby with decent prices, this place can't be beat - and it feels like a *real* fabric store, not some hobby shop with a fabric section. Fabric Planet fits it's name and image precisely as the store contains a wide variety of fabrics which includes a striking array of organic fabrics. In addition to that there is a delightful eco-friendly feeling to the place as there's flood of natural lighting, enough space in the store to navigate a stroller, and they use recycled fabric for a bag. This is a pleasantly striking contrast to the dreary run of the mill fabric store *cough*joannes*cough* and to the post apocalyptic disaster area they call a fabric store up the street. Worst service! Was told that I was "rude" because I was demanding they stop putting me on hold after the 8th time on hold. The couldn't locate my order that I PAID for, by my invoice number nor my telephone number nor my name!!!! They told me they are "doing a favor" by looking for my paid order!!!! And that I "wasn't being nice,". Of course I wouldn't be nice if you told me there's no record of my PAID order by name or by invoice ? Horrible rude entitled staff with poor customer service! you're better going to other competitors. These stores are a dime of dozen don't waste your time driving on heavy traffic on Lincoln. You will walk out unsatisfied and left with a bad taste in your mouth from the experience. read more

This place seemed like a higher end fabric store, so I went here for wedding material. They have a really nice selection of unique material. It's a little more expensive than the store I normally go to in Hawthorne, but its worth it because everything is organized and easy to find. The service is great. Other stores, I find myself wondering looking for help for like an hour, they make it easy to get in and out. You leave happy. They put my material in a huge piece of fabric they made into a tote. I could be wrong, but I thought I heard them mentioned on RuPauls Drag Race, so thats exciting. Went in there on Friday. Surprised they were even open during this pandemic. Are they an 'essential' store? Anyhow, I looked around for awhile. No one offered me any help, so I got in line at the counter behind a woman who was being helped. The man helping her stopped and gave me a dirty look. He said 'Can I help you?, very rudely. I said 'yes, I want to buy some material' I was shocked by how rude and abrupt he was. He got my material, rang it up and walked away. I didn't even know he was finished with me until I saw he helping someone else. No receipt, no 'thank you'. When I got home I unfolded my material. One of the piece was supposed to be 1/2 a yard. Instead of a rectangle piece of material, it was a triangle, 20" at one end and 12" at the other. Over priced, poor customer service, rip off. Never again. read more

It was a little bit tricky to initially navigate the store, but the employees were all pretty helpful. I let them know early that I'll be attempting to make a Halloween costume for my son for the first time and they helped me find what I needed. I can't say I've been to other shops before so I can't compare prices/inventory etc, but we got what we needed. Wish me luck! Unfortunately this is not covid related. I wish it were just a slow time to get things done with a superior product but that was not the case. We worked with both Jacob and Renata to construct a sample for our brand. I am writing this to warn people who are starting out with their brand or someone looking to have a special piece made, do not waste your time or money. They outsource their pattern making and are terrible at communication. They also are condescending and hand you a product that looks like a person that just started constructing patterns. Paying over 1500 for a pattern and two constructed samples is absurd especially when you are a startup fashion company. In the time they made our product I had four other protos made patterned with amazing communication for about 1/8 of the cost. Do yourself a favor and go down to the fashion district and ask around for referrals. Luckily I can just write this off as a loss. read more

I would give them no stars if I could. Stopped in yesterday for the first time. A women was trying to buy fabric to make a ring barriers pillow. The bride screwed up and forgot to get one. This family member was trying to solve a problem the day of the wedding. This shop had a seamstress on site and she wouldn't help. They have sewing machines they rent by the hour. I asked what it would cost for 10 mins. $25.00!!!! Unwilling to help, I got fabric a small handful of stuffing lace a button needle and thread in less than 10 minutes I hand sewed her a sweet little ring barrier pillow. I will NEVER go into this store ever again!!!! Neighborhood shop that is not very neighborly. I'm just glad I could help make her wedding day a little more perfect. read more

I walked out of the store exclaiming, "I LOVE this place!" On a bridesmaid mission to track down some tulle and burlap trim to decorate for my bestie's wedding I originally planned on just hitting up Joan's but my Yelp App showed me this treasure was right down the street from my gym. I walked into a maze of fabric bolts. I felt a bit dazed but an employee immediately saw my look of distress and came to my rescue. She directed me to the bolts of tulle at the front of the store ($1/yard, what a steal!) and then to the massive wall of trim. No burlap ribbon but I did find several good options in the color I needed and settled on a trim that was also super inexpensive at only 50cents/yard. Everything was bundled up for me to go in a handmade green jersey fabric tote bag. She made it right there in front of me! It's not anything fancy but I was incredibly excited about this and will be reusing the bag for things like laundry or the beach. Private parking lot and nearby free street parking. You will not have a problem finding parking here. There's also a very cool wall mural on the side of their building that would be a great photo shoot spot. read more

I purchased blackout fabric from Fabric Planet. The fabric did not perform as advertised: It let light through. I had to go to Pavilion Fabric (on Pico), who sold me some stellar blackout fabric that did the trick. I returned the faulty fabric to Fabric Planet, and was not refunded (i had spent $170). I was referred to the owner to discuss the matter further. He did not reply to my emails. When I finally managed to get hold of him (by phone), he refused to refund me, called me "entitled", and ultimately hung up the phone on me. Would never go back. read more

This is the coolest little shop! It has sort of a Greenwich Village feel to it. I've passed by it so many times and never even noticed it until I found it on Yelp. I was in a pinch on a Sunday. Jo-Ann's and Michael's didn't have what I needed but Fabric Planet did, and at a very reasonable price. This has happened more than once. They always have what I want. I usually go in and out in a rush. But one day I'm going to take the time to linger and look at the cool accessories and embellishments they have at the counter. Carlos was so kind and professional, he found the best match of fabric to my dress, then gave me a very good price for the alterations I needed and for the fabric as well. Great for odds and ends. Zippers for $1. But 5 bucks a yard for plain, solid cotton--Fabric Planet gives me pause. I get it, you people love Fabric Planet. I'm not in love with it. That's fine. I don't get the popular fascination with Nutella and bacon. That's cool. Keep what you love. But the prices people seem willing to pay for both is bewildering. That's Fabric Planet. 11 miles east of this very location is Los Angeles's vibrant--and I will note--affordable fabric district. I found the same 100% cotton, light blue for $2.50 a yard. No haggling. I did buy a zipper and some pretty buttons though. On the cheap. Important note, they don't carry patterns. Not a big deal: the name on the building says "Fabric Planet," not Joann's Fabrics & Crafts". Just look through the McCall's books and order the pattern online for 1/3rd the price. They don't know how to hem a curtain. Just sewed up where I pinned it 6 inches from the bottom and this stitches were coming out already as I was taking it out of the shop And I had a set made and you could see the backing sticking out 2 inches from the bottom read more

I can't really comment on the thoroughness of this review, but I really enjoyed this place. I stop in fabric stores a lot and look forward to those that are trying something different. I think I liked the bit of chaos about the place (will try to post a photo for reference), but the woman at the counter was super mellow, and very helpful. The upholstery material is what I had my eye on, they had some outdoor options as well. All the upholstery I was pulling out seemed to be in the $20/yard range but of course there were some more, or less. They had one section of silks (I don't mean upholstery here). Looked like they had some interesting buttons, and a whole wall of ribbon-y sundry things, some foam for cushions, etc. read more

However, they are a bit pricier than I would like. I was a jerk and a bad customer in this store. I had them cut material but then I didn't realize the whole cost of the project was too high and I had to make changes. I was flustered and angry but they were cool about it and I ended up walking out with the material and a loyalty to a business.
