To be fair, front desk people and cleaning crew are really nice, besides that I would save money and time and, would not be come a member here, Sports and Health Gym is cheaper, bigger and it's only a block away from Balance.

I definitely felt the burn and got a good stretch in, but it never felt overwhelming or intimidating. If you're looking for a more intimate setting where you can actually get personalized attention, this is a great spot. Highly recommend, especially for beginners or anyone easing back into Pilates.

I spent about five hours at the Yards location this week to thoroughly evaluate it before committing as I've been getting spammed in the mail, and I'm glad I did. The staff's attitude was consistently condescending, from the Senior Membership Advisor (Saad Siddiqui) upselling me, person trainers roaming around the facility, to the people at front desk. My main issue how the staff addressed my comment about the soft flooring in the free-weight area, which is completely unsuitable for barbell squats. When I brought this up, the staff condescendingly told me to just use the Smith machine or use the Olympic platform, completely dismissing a valid safety concern. There was a Titan Fitness safety squat bar (SSB) that I had no idea how much it weighed. I asked two person trainers (you'll see PT and their clients everywhere in the gym) how much the bar weighed. The PTs said they had no idea and left it at that. The front desk staff was equally apathetic. I've had better customer service at Planet Fitness for a tiny fraction of the cost. This place is motivated about locking you into their membership plan and signing you up to the many classes and services they offer. This place is not it and I highly recommend looking elsewhere in the DC area.

Overall, the facility is on brand with the other Orange Theory (I can't imagine that they would differ too much) so it's no surprise that the facility is clean, plenty of lockers and multiple water sources. Key reasons for the 4 stars: - they offer towels (which I understand is not the norm) - overall facility is nice, clean and well organized - of course you get an awesome workout that can be suitable for al fitness levels! (Hamstrings are yelling at me as write this) - metro accessible. Short walk from eastern market metro station - multiple options for classes that accommodate any schedule. From Early morning to late evening, you can find a class if you really want to. - the coach person I had was pretty cool. Gave clear directions, didn't do too much on the microphone and got us through it the workout. Why not 5? Glad you asked: - as a first timer to this studio, I would've expected the girl at the front desk to show me where everything was instead of me having to ask for restrooms, lockers, etc. maybe the bar was set higher due to my experience at another OTF location, but something they should all adopt. - there's no designated free parking (that I could find). - definitely more expensive than the other OTFs in the area (I'm assuming due to the location...but something to keep in mind)

To that affect, when you sign up, you can rent or buy a monitor that tracks your heart beat and splat points (the time you spend in the high intensity zones). It helps you know when to take it easier or push harder in a workout (they say 12-25 splat points is ideal in a one hour workout). Their classes are one hour long and they have a endurance day, strength day, and power day and a day that combines all three. The trainer walks you through the workout, but you'l likely spend your time rotating between the treadmill, rower, and floor in a few minute increments. At the end, you can stay a few minutes longer to stretch. It's a GREAT workout! My only complaint about Orange Theory is that it's expensive (probably the most expensive gyms in DC including compared to Crossfit). Other than that, it's a GREAT workout!

I have never started class with a sweaty bench/dirty treadmill and the bathroom is always stocked with toiletries. You gotta get the Barry's and Brunch shake after your workout and add strawberry for a special twist. In terms of the instructors, my favorite ones are Jorge C. (Saturday morning class) and Nazinga T. (Thursday early morning class). Both instructors always have a great vibe and even have the best playlists. The only area of improvement I'd mention is the door entry system - it can be a little finicky at times. I know that this is a new safety feature but I anticipate it getting better. I specifically asked for a white grip, and he didn't mention any issues--just said he could provide the service of restringing and gripping. Initially, he said he would return my racquets the following morning, but that kept getting pushed back. It ultimately took five days. While the delay itself wasn't a huge issue, he repeatedly promised next-day delivery and kept changing it. When I finally got my racquets back, the original grip hadn't even been removed--he just wrapped a new one over it which wasn't the grip style or color I asked for. The finishing tape wasn't even properly placed at the top of the handle. When I went to play, the strings were actually worse than when I gave them to him. I ended up wasting $90, and to make matters worse, he lost my dampener. When I called him about it, he took an hour to respond and then admitted he had lost it, handing me a random one from his car. Absolutely horrible quality and service on every front.
