This was our second experience at F M Don's the food the service and the ambience were all excellent with two minor exceptions in our first seating. The chair was wobbly. My wife sat in and we needed to be receded. This place was hard to find, has a very limited menu and their gluten free options are no options at all if you want a GF wrap only but service was decent (that's why they got two stars). First time here and I ordered chicken bacon sandwich with a GF wrap, because they didn't offer GF bread, and fries. The hubby ordered a wedge salad with their potato leek soup. My fries why greasy hard and lukewarm, they forgot the bacon in the wrap, the chicken was tasteless and the wrap broke apart into a million pieces. The waitress was nice enough the bring me two pieces of bacon. My husband said the soup was good, it tasted like mashed potatoes. The wedge salad was made with romaine instead of iceberg and they made sure to leave the hard core of the lettuce for him, which he didn't like. Not much of a menu. My friend and I recently had a very disappointing experience at FM Dons. As I started to initiate a Yelp review I realized my old review for Jack's from 2015 was boosting the ratings for FM Dons. Same location but certainly not the same restaurant. We sat at the bar and ordered 2 apps and drinks. The seafood app was old and smelly so we returned the dish and ordered another appetizer. The other appetizer never came and the seafood app appeared on our bill. The bartender pretty much ignored us after we returned the old seafood app. I'd love to hear "Jacks' is back." read more

We came here twice during a short weekend trip. The first visit was at the bar and it was quite delightful. We were able to order from their lunch menu and got a couple of drinks. The food arrived very quickly and was very good. The second visit we sat in the dining room. I preferred the bar sitting better because there were a couple of fruit flies that kept coming to hang out at our table like they were invited to the party or something. We ordered one of the sparkling wine bottles but they didn't have that one so we ended up getting a Amelia brut rose. For the entree, we got the pork chop and shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits did not look very good. It looked like soup! I really liked my pork chop but I did wish that the server offered me a steak knife. I should have asked for one I guess. The chocolate cake was ok. It tasted like it was store bought cake. Overall, it's still a nice place to come for some drinks and food but I think I prefer coming here for lunch instead of dinner. read more

Just another gem in Punta Gorda! From the service to the food to the amazing drinks, you will not go wrong dining here. The cocktails are legit, my husband said the old fashion was great. We ordered three different things, one being shrimp and grits, Cajun linguine with chicken and the mahi-mahi. All three meals were off the chart delicious and the spices were perfect. Solid 4 stars for food and comfort of the restaurant. The restaurant has good enough ceilings for space. It has the booth area if you like more private settings. It is downtown Punta Gorda and the parking is street side and free. There are some public parking lot behind the building. We were here and find the restaurant menu is kind of interesting. They have soup and protein add on or a la carts protein. It is great choices for the customers choice to combine the dish. I started with the seafood calypso soup. It is a Creamy base seafood soup. My friend has the fisherman chowder soup. I think I like his soup better. My protein is the blackened mahi mahi and the seared scallops. The Mahi mahi is fresh. The scallops are huge. It is excellent with the scallops meat with sweet taste. The coconut shrimp also good. All seafood are excellent. Service was good. Food computer quick enough. read more

A lot of people complain about the service. Since at 3:30 we were the only ones there the service was ok! The food however, was hideous! Although we shared a beef slider at 20.00 it's all I have to go on. It was a dried out piece of chuck roast on two buns with tasteless horseradish on one side of each dry bun. Stopped here for lunch while in downtown Punta Gorda. our waitress was Cheyenne, she was friendly, good sense of humor and made our lunch a very pleasant one. I went with the Cuban and my wife had the burger. Both came with some very hot French fries. the food was very good, both made and served the way we asked for them. Came here for a book signing and read plus lunch. The restaurant was bigger than I expected. Parking close that day was tough. I was happily greeted at the door and quickly lead to a seat at a table that two sisters sat. It was communal seating for this occasion. I ordered an Arnold Palmer quickly before everything got started. Another fabulous woman came and sat with us and we had a BLAST. The staff worked above and beyond. I had a chicken salad sandwich with a dill pickle. It was just enough. The sisters had chicken salads and the last fabulous person to the table also had a chicken salad sandwich with a pickle. When you get a chance stop in for a drink and stop next door at the Copperfish bookstore. There's alittle something for everyone. read more

Amazing! Food was fantastic. Drinks we're great! Definitely recommend! We were a table of 4, we shared the escargot and the goat cheese appetizers. The restaurant was very busy and the bar area was packed. We were seated right away, although the hostess sat our guests at a separate table although they gave our reservations name. When we figured it out it was smooth sailing. Our waiter could have a bit more attentive. We would not give our dinner order before the apps were out again since the waiter said he'd time it out but the dinner came out while we were still eating our apps. Overall we did have a great time! Sorry to say, I just think things have changed here. We have been multiple times since my last review and have seen many changes, but due to the pandemic we felt like they would come back strong . Not the case. No more specials. Insolent young ladies at the front desk and the food quality has all but disappeared. Still enjoy the servers who know us but the kitchen has to get it together. I always order pretty much the same thing and I have had this before, but it was nowhere the dish I have seen and enjoyed. I got the fish sandwich with fries. It used to be one large piece of cod . Today it was small chunks with more breading than fish. The bread was so stale it could not be eaten and the tomatoes were almost not identified due to the paper thin cut. The fries were hot but so overcooked , my teeth got a workout. I'm not usually a big complainer and nobody asked how it was or how I was doing. I tipped my 20 percent and I go home sad that my favorite place in Punta Gorda just cannot seem to get quality control together. I could go on and on about recent other visits but that really serves no purpose. read more

I come to this place a few times a year to celebrate different things. I love their bread and butter. I know it's weird but I love it more than outback's. Anyways.... Service: I usually come here with my husband but the last time I was here I went with a bunch of girls. 3 people ordered meals and 1 person ordered 2 apps as her entree. We were not being cheap or obnoxious, but I got this feeling from the server that she didn't want to serve our table. Like we couldn't afford the meals and would tip her 10% type of table. She was polite when talking to us but you can just feel that tone. The service was also pretty slow and the restaurant wasn't even busy. I have been here when it's packed and received better and faster service. Oh and I tipped 20%. Food: The bread this day was NOT anything like they had before. It was pretty terrible. We were there around 5ish so they should have fresh bread ready for dinner. Maybe our server gave us stale bread on purpose. I enjoyed my steak, it was cooked to the way I like it. I like that they are willing to switch out the sides for me. My friends ordered some seafood dishes and a vegan/vegetarian entree. They thought the food was not so great and couldn't understand why I liked the place. Price: Everything is more expensive these days but their prices are higher than other restaurants for what you get. They also used to do a Tuesday special which they don't do anymore. Atmosphere: A nice date night restaurant atmosphere. Their booths were a bit cramped. Cleanliness: Overall ok. I saw a fly or two during my meal and they would land on your sweet drinks. read more
