Cool divey bar. Has inside and outside section. Supposedly only smoking in outside area. Well, I beg to differ. Not so much! Walked in and the place was full of smoke. Got outside immediately. Nice covered and uncovered outdoor seating areas. The uncovered area has tables with umbrellas to shade the sun. Karaoke night had some talented singers. I was impressed. Crowd got a bit sketchy as the day began to turn into night. Biker guys with club vests wandering around. One guy had a huge crescent wrench hanging out of his back pocket....I'm pretty sure he wasn't there as a mechanic. Where I'm from, that's a weapon. Beers were cold. Great place to visit on a Sunday during Karaoke. Even though we've lived in Punta Gorda for years we hadn't been here until recently. We had planned making the visit on my 20 year old HD Fatboy but Hurricane Milton had other plans for it and both cars. The food here is quite good. The singers not so much but it's fun. read more

I write this as a public service. We went there today to try their Maine Lobster Roll. Big mistake. The tasteless lobster came out on a white bun and was served plain-no sauce no nothing. It was dry, tasteless and very disappointing. The only reason this restaurant got a one star is that they serve beer and it was cold and refreshing. Stick with the beer!! Nice local themed tropical dive bar. There is a semi-outdoor smoke friendly section, a billiards room and a dark, dingy indoor bar. The semi-outdoor room has the most character and is frequented by the geriatric crowd, who are friendly, if not loquacious. The indoor bar is old school and dark stimulates self-reflection:"how did I get here?" "Where did I go wrong?" I enjoy a good cigar and cold beer without worrying about offending the hypersensitive, confrontational non smoking types. The seafood chowder is the past pluperfect superlative of chowder. But the caveat is there is zero food served after 3:00 pm, which really blows. You can call ahead and ask them to reserve you some in the fridge. I'll be back here next time I'm in town. read more

Loved this place found it by accident will be back on purpose. I had perhaps the best seafood chowder I've ever had. It was seafood in every bite. They don't have it all the time so call ahead. Not an extensive food menu but something for everyone. Great craft beer list and what seems like a place that has its regulars and tourists alike. Under normal circumstances Karaoke is very good however one DJ/Karaoke host who wears a Fedora hat does not allow any and I mean ANY other persons other then his own friends to sing. He was rude and really acted as if he was famous! This is a fun local bar with a salty clientele. The interior is decorated with hundreds of collectable beer cans, signs, and memorabilia. They offer a full liquor selection with many draft beers. They have pool tables, a shuffle board table, and an outside bar/patio. I found the drink prices are reasonable as well as the food menu. Having only cocktails on this visit I will review the food on another visit. I like this place because the inside bar is dark, the drinks are good, the staff are friendly, and the locals welcoming. I will be very honest with you... last Sunday (yesterday 01/31/21) with some friends, we decided to revisit Punta Gorda places for some food, drinks and find a cool place to hangout for a bit. Our first stop was SHORTY's and to our surprise, a nice crowd! What got our attention was the music that they had setup in the back. KARAOKE ! It can be fun with the right crowd and of course a great DJ. To our surprise they finally hired a guy who was not only well prepared for what crowd will request to sing, he also sang (one song ) and it was delivered perfectly. Even his sound was great. What a pleasant surprise and a breath of fresh air to have live music ( even just a KARAOKE! ) . Few singers from the bar crowd signed up and DJ DENNY PRIME did fantastic job accommodating everyone. Even the non singers got up there and sang....we all had tons of fun ! My experience around town PG or PCH with KARAOKE WAS DOWN TO 1-2 stars, but after last afternoon to evening in SHORTY's PG .... was awesome and we definitely will return to have Denny rock the house again !!! Whole crowd was fun and even strangers sang with strangers and became fun. So,if you are looking for a great burger, craft beer or just a cocktail, with awesome entertainment! Look no further! Denny Prime will be playing Fridays!!!!! Late into the night ! Friendly staff and fun crowd is always good to have around here ! So yes 5 star review!!! Deserved ! So, we will see you next Friday ! Was down there in February and March. Great place .. friendly staff. I didn't get a chance to try the food but I did notice some great looking sandwiches being served up. The only NEGATIVE that really grossed me out was a gentleman that I was told is a regular and probably a great guy BUT, he doesn't wear shoes or sandals. He walks around the place barefooted and has pretty nasty dirty busted up feet that I really don't want to see especially if I was going to order food. That's just me ‍ I did meet the most beautiful woman in Florida that works there I believe she's a manager and sometimes sings karaoke. She was very friendly and had a killer smile. I gave this place high hopes as I am new in the area and wanted it to be my local bar. The older blonde bartender is not friendly and provides poor customer service. We closed our tab after two beers and then decided to stay for a few more due to transportation reasons. When I ordered another beer she very rudely reminded me that she "let me go with my last one" which was $9.50. She said the card minimum was $10 which is literally NOT STATED ANYWHERE that I could see. So I said Okay and ordered 2 more beers instead of the 1 i needed just to meet the credit card minimum. I have been to hundreds of bars in my life and this is my first Yelp review just to spread the word about this rude and bad service, not to mention her slow serving time. I want to say this place is cool due to the shuffleboard and pinball but I do not advise giving your money to these people. read more
