Lemon tart-tini but they forgot the graham cracker crumbs
Amanda F.

We had dinner on a week night. We had a reservation but this place is fairly big, so we didn't need it. We were sat immediately. Our server came around and poured us water and took our drink order. They have these cute refillable glass water bottles with their logo on it. My lemon tart-tini cocktail was good- but the bartender failed to put the graham cracker crust on the rim and the whipped cream:( I mentioned it to the server but instead of her saying they'd make it again- she asked if I wanted it on the side. What? I decided not to make a big deal out of it. Dinner was excellent. The salad was unique and delicious. The complimentary bread appeared to be undercooked and over floured but surprisingly it was very good. I love that they had a side of butter as well as a side of butter with local honey! My husband had the scallops over risotto; it wasn't really risotto texture though. It was more like rice- it didn't have that creaminess. He didn't eat much of that but the scallops were huge and had a nice crust. The lighting was low- forgive my terrible scallop picture. I had the short rib and shrimp combo. I don't know how the shrimp and the short rib go together. They seemed like two dishes side by side and not like a pairing, but I did enjoy both of them. I was very happy that I could say no to the potato and instead get double veggie. Our server said normally there is a charge for that but she felt bad about the lack of quality control on my cocktail, so she was able to nix the double veggie charge. Sweet. :) For dessert, we asked for the salted caramel cheesecake. We were so sad to hear that they had sold out of the cheesecake!!!! We had our hearts set on that so none of the other options sounded good. So instead we just shared a dessert cocktail- coconut white chocolate martini- was tasty. The restaurant is cozy and upscale. The bathrooms are clean. Parking is along the street. Service is good. I would recommend this place for a date night dinner.

Grilled ribeye. Cooked to temp
Don K.

I went back a few evenings later and ordered a bowl of the southern style lobster bisque and the ribeye as my entree. The creamy bisque was not overpowering- there were small amounts of sweet corn and a topping of bacon and green onion. I would have liked some bits of lobster meat as well. The ribeye was grilled to temp-tender and flavorful and resting over a drizzle of sweet bbq sauce on the plate. The steak was accompanied by fresh steamed green beans and sautéed mushrooms and quartered red potatoes. Delicious. I ended with a key lime pie slice to go. It had the right consistency and tart to it and real whipped cream on the side.

I only found one thing on the menu I liked, and that was the salmon salad minus the onions. I must say it was delicious. The dressing was fantastic. Several dishes had shrimp included, which I don't like, and I'm also not a fan of rice pilaf. I guess I am just too picky. The calamari was okay, but the sauce on top was great. The guys enjoyed the oysters Rockefeller, a steak medallion special, and the scallops.

Salmon with jumbo shrimp, asparagus and rice! The best!!!

We always enjoy having dinner in Punta Gorda at Winesett. All the menu items we have tried have been delicious! Now that tourist season is winding down, it is much easier to get a table!

The Royal Jelly
Jackie S.

This was my second visit to Winesett House, and I was so excited to be back! I came last year on a trip to Punta Gorda, and the restaurant stood out so much that I had to go again this year. The ambiance is cozy and feels upscale without crazy prices, and the staff is kind and attentive. We started with 2 signature cocktails, and both were great! The Royal Jelly was definitely gin forward, but really well balanced with nice flavor. We enjoyed the complimentary warm bread before the meal, and since we were saving room for dessert, we went right into entrees! The seared sea scallop risotto was heavenly - the scallops were perfectly cooked, and the risotto was full of flavor. The lightness of the scallops balanced the heavier risotto base perfectly. My friend enjoyed the short rib and shrimp entree, which was also delicious! The short rib was extremely tender with a great mustard sauce, and the shrimp had a fun chimichurri sauce that paired really well! Served on a bed of mashed potatoes with asparagus, you can't go wrong with this dish. We saved the last of our appetites for key lime pie for dessert, which was the perfect way to end the meal! I love this restaurant and it will continue to be a staple for me when I'm in Punta Gorda.

Super cute place!

This was our first time here and super happy we chose it! Super cute restaurant, amazing staff and great food. Just an overall good vibe!We had a party of 9 and didn't call for reservations until the day of, and they were so nice and put three tables together for us! I ordered a dirty martini with blue cheese stuffed olives; and for our main entree we got the pork chop, seared scallops and braised short rib. The braised short rib was my favorite. Highly recommend!

Really cool place in downtown Punta Gorda. Ashley our server was probably the best server I have ever experienced! She was attentive, knowledgeable and confident in her role. She made great recommendations and made sure we had everything we needed especially as we were celebrating a milestone birthday. The food was wonderful as well - wonderful favorites with a little twist.

We ate in the courtyard which was lovely. Service was excellent & food was delicious. You would definitely enjoy.

Sausage and Shrimp Rigatoni 10/10!
Jeff J.

This was a delayed visit - only because PG has so many good restaurants. OUR MISTAKE!! This place is fantastic. Our server was Bailey - she never rushed us and was on top of all server check boxes. My wife enjoyed the salmon and grilled shrimp - a very pretty presentation. As I entered from the patio, I spotted a gentleman having rigatoni. Most places do not use this pasta, but based on what I saw - I'm there! Sausage and Shrimp Rigatoni. Oh my, half of it is going home with us. Absolutely fantastic sauce and lunch for tomorrow. No dessert because I think I had a top three ever - Knob Creek Maple Old Fashioned; dang it was great. It is 100% this foodie's fault for not trying Winesett House earlier. We will definitely make this a regular stop for us. Thanks Bailey for a great evening. Share this with the owner and other Yelpers need to take note! Do not sleep on this gem, a solid 5 stars!

Nirvani M.

We came for dinner and had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Parking was easy to find, and we were seated right away. The service was excellent, with attentive servers and food and drinks arriving quickly. Everything we ordered was delicious. I had the rigatoni without sausage and also tried the calamari and lobster bisque, which were all outstanding. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice spot to enjoy a great dinner.

Chilean Sea Bass with lobster cream sauce over rice pilaf. Special of the day
Aurora A.

WOWOWOWOWOW!! Let me preface this by saying I expected great things from this restaurant based on reviews and pricing. They were WELL exceeded. We made a reservation and were able to be seated outside even with an event going on. We appreciated it. We started with drinks and bread. The bread was fresh and warm. The perfect start. Our waitress gave great recommendations for food which we took. She let us take our time and enjoy our drinks before ordering. Everyone of our dishes were impeccable. My husband ate his Chilean sea bass in 10 mins. He rarely finished a meal. I could not believe it. The asparagus were the size of trees!! The salmon and short ribs were a highlight. We could not get enough. We ended with the chocolate mousse bomb. Omg even if we didn't have room we could make some for this delicious dessert!! It was the perfect cap. EVERYONE who works here takes the time to make sure the experience was amazing. We appreciated being checked on for water and drinks even after we had paid. Only complaint was I wanted to go here based on the fresh oyster reviews only to find out they don't serve them. Still so happy we went. The highlight of our trip!!

Seared scallops over grits

We went to Winsett for Valentine's Dinner last night. Loved it. We were seated on time, the atmosphere was very relaxing and the food was amazing. Our server, Shelby, was the best. Her recommendations were spot on and she made our night so enjoyable. This is definitely going to be one of our favorites to go to.

Came here on a Friday night and we loved this restaurant! The staff were so friendly and attentive. I ordered the risotto with scallops and it tasted delicious. We came closer to closing time so I was pleased our food and service was very good. They also were playing live music, it was a very cute restaurant. I'd recommend!

The food was absolutely delicious, although all our meals did not come out at the same time and we had a wait a few minutes till my daughter-in-law got her meal, it was hot and cooked to perfection tho. I had the best arugula salad ever, perfectly balanced with the tomatoes, red roasted peppers, blue cheese, and balsamic dressing, and also the beef tenderloin skewers, which were cooked, medium rare and served with crispy potatoes that were seasoned spot on, just enough to make it a delightful dinner! My daughter-in-law had the swordfish which she said was very tasty, my son-in-law had the chicken Christina, which he devoured, and my husband had the cheese raviolis and meatballs, which were on the children's menu, but they said they could give him the adult size portion, which he also enjoyed. I tasted his meatballs and sometimes they are not the best everywhere, these were very good. I normally do take pictures of the food, but I forgot because we were so hungry and dug in as soon as we got our meals, but the presentation was very satisfying. The only negatives were, the music was very loud, and we could barely have a conversation, only when the band took a break, and our waitress didn't put much effort into being friendly or going the extra mile. Had to tell her to get my husband, ice, lemons for our water, and remind her about my daughter-in-law's meal that we were waiting for a couple times. Overall, would definitely go back there and recommend!

A MUST when I'm in Punta Gorda!…read more My friend moved to Punta Gorda a couple of years ago. I've visited her 3 times, and we make sure to come here every time I'm in town. The bar/restaurant is located right on the water with great views! The parking lot is also the same lot used by the adjacent hotel, so it can sometimes be hard to find a park, depending on the day and time. It's a mixture of great outdoor spaces as well as covered spaces. There's also a private event space that's really nice as well. I've been at night as well as during the day and have enjoyed every experience. The staff is friendly and great! I even fell, I mean face-planted, one evening, and the staff made sure to check on me and see if I needed medical attention. The menu is pretty straightforward, and the bar is your basic bar. They have a drink menu, but a full bar as well. Everything is also well-priced. I haven't ordered food, so I can't give a review of the food. I will definitely be back on my next visit to PG!

Hubby loved his coleslaw (mayo based) & son's rice was a small portion. I had a grouper Rueben--delicious fish but not very ruebenish--no sauerkraut--coleslaw instead. Fries & pickle were crisp. It was freezing that night so we basically ran from the hotel to the restaurant because there's no way to get there other than outside. We were seated immediately, without a reservation. It was Sunday and not too busy. Around 7:30pm. I was done drinking for the day but my husband got a cocktail called Devilfish and enjoyed it. Not sure why that name but I was an attractive looking cocktail. I wanted crab cakes. I'm surprised the price for the crab cake has not changed in years. I saw on old pics of the menu that it was $19. Well, it's still $19 and I find that absolutely remarkable. They did not disappoint; full of crab and a nice crispy crust. The radish garnish was pretty and edible, but plain. The house complimentary bread had a lovely rosemary salt on top. I had the 10oz black angus filet. It was perfectly cooked. It's a thick cut of meat so I did add a little salt. The roasted garlic accompaniment was fantastic. I milked all of that. The gratin potatoes were so cheesy and delicious. My husband had the seabass filet with the almond crust over green beans. It was phenomenal. The crust they achieved on the fish was so good. We opted for dessert- the creme brûlée. It was served with espresso ice cream and some chocolate pieces on top. Pretty good! I like that it was slightly warm in the middle under a thick sugary crust. Service was excellent and food was fantastic. We packed up our leftovers. Bathrooms are clean. Bar looks nice. Would definitely eat here again.

Party of one and I was seated right away in the bar area. Charlotte was my server and she was great. I asked for her recommendations, which all sounded amazing, but I went with the grilled prawns, 6 oz filet, mashed potatoes, and Brussels sprouts. Here's my honest breakdown: Grilled prawns 3/5. The first bite had that perfect charred, grilled flavor... so good. But the second one didn't hit the same. Steak 5/5. Absolutely buttery, tender, and honestly didn't even need a knife. Chef's kiss. Mashed potatoes 4/5. Really good, just a touch too much garlic for my liking. Brussels sprouts 2/5. This one disappointed me. The cheese wasn't melted and the glaze was way too sweet. I only managed a couple bites and left the rest, which says a lot because I love Brussels sprouts. Now let's talk about that bread and butter... chef's kiss all over again. Creamy, whipped, and just downright delicious. I would gladly take that to go. Overall, it's a solid, typical steakhouse experience. Nothing over the top, but definitely some highlights. One suggestion though... please add key lime pie to the menu. That should be a staple at any restaurant in Florida, just saying.

I got dressed up and walked over there. My table was ready on time; it was in the lounge area of the restaurant. They offered me the table or said I could sit at the bar. I opted to sit at the bar. The bar was almost full but people were leaving. Apparently people eat early there. The bartender was swamped but smiled and got me a glass of water. Soon I had menus. I like that they have a regular menu as well as a specials menu, including the usual cocktails and some special cocktails. I ordered the conquest, which seemed like a twist on an old fashioned. They offered bread or focaccia bread, I declined. And heads up- bread service is not included. It's an up charge. Normally I don't care but I was having dessert, not bread. I had the halibut special. It was phenomenal. One of the guys from the kitchen dropped it off and asked if I needed anything'- I replied salt. I find that I need salt often at restaurants. They brought the salt out real fast! I had a bite and determined it didn't need any more salt- it was perfectly salted! Woohoo! Fantastic. I ate my whole dish and then I savored my cocktail. The bartender wasn't much for conversation , as she was very busy, alone, covering the entire bar and drinks for the whole restaurant. She did invite me to try dessert, and mentioned a coconut cream cake that was not on the menu. I agreed to it and it was heavenly. Seemed like cheesecake icing with fluffy layers of cake and subtle coconut flakes throughout. The chocolate ice cream was weird at first but then I realized it's like almond joy/ mounds - coconut and chocolate are often paired. The espresso crumble gave it a nice crunch and there was caramel all over the plate. Wow! I took the majority of the cake home. It was a large portion and indulgent. I paid my tab and finished my drink. I was not rushed. I would go back again. It's a bit pricey. The fish special was $58. The cocktail was $17 and the dessert was $16. So one person, who did not add on the bread service, was $91. It's expensive. I would emphasize you can probably get a seat at the bar if you can't get a reservation. Also- the entrance is hard to find. It's in the parking lot and not facing the main road. I got a little lost walking there. The signage is poor. I can't imagine going there the first time in the dark. So give yourself a couple extra minutes if it's your first time going there.
