The only tough things to consider while ordering from here was the staff had a hard time understanding orders between my friend and I. The sandwiches from here does take a while to come out as they're making it from scratch - so be prepared for a semi long wait. We both ordered different items - a Philly cheesesteak and a chicken cutlet sandwich with a side of fries. This place has a good assortment of deli items and snacks to sell with a narrow hall. The hardest part from our experience was both the chef and the cashier had a tough time getting our food orders correct. My friend got a Philly cheesesteak but both of them added an order of fries with her sandwich when she didn't get one. Mine was the chicken cutlet sandwich with the fries but the cashier was about to ring up my order and almost mistakenly stated it was the Philly Cheesesteak (almost got charged the extra price for the wrong sandwich). Luckily my friend and I were detail oriented and stopped them before anything was entered. Since the extra side of fries was made, they were nice enough to give my friend this no extra charge. But it was quite painful to correct and shocking on the customer side. Food is still good and didn't have a bad experience once we got to munch on dinner. But definitely check your items and the price charge when ordering from here.

I've eaten MANY Italian heroes all over northern NY & NYC and this has to be the best Ive ever had. This place is well established in the local community and I am sure someone has done a video or segment on TV about this place. The amount of food on a sandwich and the quality of their food is impeccable. No heroes loaded up with tomato and lettuce. Just plenty of the "good stuff". Don't give the prices a 2nd glance as these sandwiches have to weight 4-5 lbs each and a full ( 10"?) hero is plenty for 2 very hungry people. They have over 150 Signature sandwiches named after ( mostly) Italian celebrities. ( Fran Sinatra, Yogi Berra, Sophia Loren, etc) I was very satisfied with these 2: ---#119 EDDIE ARCARDO "Try This Thoroughbred"-- Chicken cutlet, salami, ham, olive oil, basil mix, LIONI FRESH MOZZARELLA, Sun-dried tomatoes, and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar ----#P1 THE ROSANNA SCOTTO "You'll Have A Good Day With This One" Ham, Salami, Pepperoni, Soppressata, Fresh Mozzarella, Roasted Peppers OMG! so loaded, so fresh, amazing bread. Home made roasted peppers, sundried tomatoes, AMAZING mozzarella! Be hungry & GO! Top notch!

The shop has so much character and tons of signs and things to look at while you wait. The sandwich was HUGE--I could only finish half--but absolutely delicious and worth the wait. Very old-school, unpretentious Brooklyn spot that clearly knows what it's doing. I'd love to come back and try another sandwich. If you're in the area, definitely stop in, but honestly, even if you're just visiting Brooklyn, it's worth making the trip!

The roast beef sandwich was the standout--thinly sliced, incredibly tender roast beef layered with sweet caramelized onions and gooey melted cheese, all brought together with a deep, rich beef gravy that was perfect for dipping. The Godfather, their Italian cold cut sandwich, was also a hit--bold, flavorful, and expertly balanced. Both were served on an Italian seeded hero that was impressively fresh and perfectly toasted, giving just the right crunch. To top it off, the owner personally came out to check on us and thank us for our patronage. It's rare to see that kind of hospitality these days. He also let us sample their buffalo shrimp was more of a sweet and sour style fried shrimp/prawn. Delicious An amazing local spot that clearly takes pride in both their food and their service. I ordered the Journey to Baku salad, the Turkish bread, and the Guru Khingal. The salad needed a pinch of salt, but there was a shaker on the table and with that addition, it was a decent refreshing appetizer. It's sort of a spread so I would recommend ordering some bread to eat with it. The bread came out steaming hot and smelling amazing. It was soft and fluffy on the inside and delicious. I took the extra home and ate it all immediately when I got there. Delicious bread. The Guru Khingal is honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten in New York City. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect, as I have never eaten this type of food before. The tender, handcut pasta seems to be layered with flavorful lamb fat like the most decadent possible buttered noodles and the ground lamb topping is rich and perfectly seasoned. The yogurt sauce gives the dish balance. It's a fairly large portion that could easily be shared between two. I highly recommend this spot, the glowing reviews are not exaggerating at all. I often like to try new and unusual restaurants, and sometimes I enjoy them mostly for the novelty. That was not the case at Village Cafe. My meal here was delicious and I am eager to return, even with the 75 minute commute from north Brooklyn.
