I was a bit intimidated due to some physical limitations with my knees and hips. The staff was friendly and they do offer to help you carry up your bags however we did not take them up on it. It ended up being OK, I get it that it's almost impossible to retrofit an elevator into these old buildings. It was quiet, I didn't hear any of the neighbors in the building. I felt very safe in both the apartment and in the area. Everything you need is within a couple blocks of walking distance. The bus that takes you back back-and-forth to the airport is about two blocks away and easy walk. The sidewalks are smooth enough that it's no problem to roll your suitcase. There's a lot of food choices and a big grocery store right on the same block. That brings me to the food. We did not cook in the apartment, but I suspect we could have if we wanted to put together something basic. There's a microwave and a kettle and a very handy refrigerator which we utilized. The attached restaurant feels like family. They treat you like family. The food was great, although that fish and chips put me down for the count. It's just so much food oh my goodness. I love the fact that they had delicious draft beer on tap, they had fantastic desserts, you could see right into the kitchen and see them preparing some food. Everybody on the whole staff was so friendly. I think maybe they are family I'm not sure about that but they certainly treat you like you are family. We got there early to check in and so we went in the restaurant and they put our bags in the corner where it was safe and by the time we were done eating, our room was ready. I saved this one in my book because I will definitely be back.

I found Beshoff like a total tourist; through an ad on the back of a map of Dublin that I got from my hotel. They were touted as the oldest running traditional fish n' chip shop in the city. Since it was the oldest, and conveniently on the way to the hotel I was staying at, my mom and I took the LUAS and stopped at Abbey Street station and walked through the bustling crowds of fuel protesters towards The Spire to get to Beshoff's. The restaurant had a fun black and white tile finish with an old-school diner vibe. They are a counter-service restaurant, so after browsing the menu, I ordered the traditional cod and chips, and my mom got some calamari and coleslaw. We were luckily able to find a seat at the corner booth closest to the front window of the place, as we arrived right before the lunch crowd started rushing in. My cod order was perfectly fried with a crisp outer breaded layer and light flaky layers of fish on the inside. The portion of fish was huge, and the entire filet was nicely and evenly fried, no soggy sections at all. However, the only issue I had was that a good chunk of the fish didn't have much flavor, it all just had a perfect texture. I had to really douse the fish in the lil' cup of tartar sauce to take it to flavor town. The tail section of the fish was probably the best part for me, as it was a thinner cut of fish, so it was extra crispy and much more succulent. The fries were also kind of a let down for me, they were thick and steak cut styled, so there was a lot of potato in every bite, but they just felt too dry and starchy for my tastes. They reminded me of eating old leftover fries, because they were was missing that distinct crunch and feel that fries have when you eat them fresh out of the frier. The best thing we ordered was the calamari. It was AMAZING, with a delectably crispy outer breaded layer followed by a nice and soft inner squid texture; it had just the right amount of chew and flavor.

Food: Traditional fish and chips - 4/5 - A good experience to get some fish and chips. You will get an abundance of chips to fill your belly. The cod size too I was pretty surprised about. Service: 4/5 - It was close to closing time but they let us sit and eat. Ambiance: 3/5 - Just a step up from a fast food joint. Portion to Price: 5/5 - Very happy with the portion size.

Our first meal in Dublin was at The Old Mill Restaurant, right in the heart of Temple Bar. It's been serving traditional Irish fare since the 1980s and has become a favorite stop for both locals and visitors looking for classic comfort food. After about a 20-minute wait, we were seated in the warm, inviting dining room. Susan ordered the mussels, one of her favorites, while I went with the Traditional Irish Stew and my daughter chose the Braised Beef & Guinness Stew. Both were exactly what we hoped for: hearty, flavorful, and perfect after a day of sightseeing. I finally understood why the Guinness stew had such a rich, dark color, and I have to admit, I came home a big fan of Irish stew. We finished with the Homemade Bread & Butter Pudding topped with fresh cream and custard, a comforting dessert that was the perfect ending to the meal. Service, atmosphere, value, and food were all five out of five. We also enjoyed chatting with the floor manager, whose pride in the restaurant and his team was obvious. That kind of hospitality made a great meal even more memorable.

We asked about the soup flavor & they offered a taste and brought out a huge sample boat. Super cool. I got the cottage pie lunch portion, which is more than I could barely eat. It came with a boat of the sauce /and gravy and meat. Wife got the fish and chips... The fillet was longer than the plate and it came with a mountain of fries, both delicious. Daughter got the creamy vegetable soup and chips. She loved it but couldn't even finish half. All the portions were very generous, nobody finished their meal, too bad we couldn't have taken it back to our hotel. Server was great & funny. Love this place.
