Always fast and professional. Makes our smog duty easy. Wonderful working with the pleasant and nice owner every time.

Brought in my Subaru in the early morning and the smog test was fast and easy. Coupon is great too. Well located and friendly staff. Just know that if your smog test requires "star certification" there is an additional fee. I believe the fee is required at ALL smog places. read more

My girlfriend took her car in for a Smog test since it's right around the corner from our home. She was met with absolutely horrible service. She explained that the technician did not honor her online coupon, tried to then over charge her and upon leaving was met with arrogance and disrespect. We will take our business elsewhere and highly recommend you do the same. Extremely disappointed with the rave reviews of this place. Shame. One star for being open I guess? UPDATE: take your car to Star Smog Depot at 11847 San Pablo, it will save you lots of TIME and MONEY. read more

Umit was very friendly and he gave me clear instructions (pull forward / pop open the front hood / pull down front windows / turn off the engine and leave the key on the driver's seat) to make the process simple and efficient. There was no wait time (I was there early on a weekday) and everything was done in less than 15 minutes. Good price, too (I used their internet coupon). read more

If it's possible to have a positive experience failing your smog check this is the place its going to happen. I had shipped my dad's car out from Florida after he passed away so when I brought the car in to be smog checked the fact that the car hadn't been driven much over the last year impacted how the computers registered the "drive cycle" so it failed. I know, that is far more then you wanted to know BUT I know it because the manager (and owner) was kind enough to explain WHY I failed AND directed me to the exact information I needed and steps I needed to follow in order to pass smog the next time. Once I followed the steps, I brought the car back and before he charged me to go through the smog process again, he first plugged in a little computer to make sure the drive cycle was registering properly. Only when he confirmed that and was sure I would pass did he start the smog certification process. In short, getting your car smog check is a necessary evil BUT if you want to have the most pleasant experience possible, this is where you want to do it. PS: He was also extremely kind offering me condolences for my dad. How awesome is that. read more

Been here before, and I could swear it was cheaper, significantly so. Smog check today was $108! The price was not shown anywhere on any signage. We were shocked when the guy told us the price. But..we paid it because we needed to get it done. Next time I'll seek out coupons or go elsewhere. read more

Umit is the nicest sweetest guy you can imagine. I arrived at 9am so I was able to get Umit's early bird discount. I left the key in the ignition and opened the two front windows. Umit prefers that payment is cash, but he let me pay part with a credit card. Umit took care of everything from there on. Living up to its name EZ Star is indeed easy in and out service. read more

I come here every time I need a smog - I've tried other places, and between rude people, people who tell me I need a Star smog check when the paperwork clearly says I don't, etc., I am not trying anywhere else in the future. This place is fast, well organized, and friendly. read more

I come here every year (I have my multiple cars) and always get taken care properly. Super nice workers and always treat you with a smile. They never seem to disappoint with the prices! read more

This was the fourth or fifth time that EZ Star Smog offered good quality services to me. The owner (?) was very friendly and courteous. There is no BS when he chats with you which I appreciate as a female customer. Also, since this time I didn't have a coupon (I moved to another neighborhood), he still gave a good deal. I highly recommend this place. They can assist you when you don't have an appointment and the location is close to Gilman and a famous fish market. Thank you, EZ Star Smog! read more

The owner, Umit, couldn't have been nicer. He is truly a gentleman: courteous, professional, a real breath of fresh air. He explained everything carefully and clearly. I was able to stay in the car, which made the experience even faster and easier. This is definitely the place to go to if you need a smog check. read more

Fastest in /out service, in large part, owing to the newish age of car. Did not make appointment; dropped in and presented Groupon. Incl cert fee, I paid $30! read more

Great service, quick, cheap and good service. What more can you ask for? I have already been to three different smog check stations on San Pablo and this is the best! read more

Get ready to be ripped off. Ali is rude and will threaten to post your review online so here it is. Don't charge me for a service and not do your part then have me pay again to get the job done right! Not to mention your employee says 5 -FIVE other people have had the same issue with the DMV when it comes to their certificates not being sent in electronically. Nice scam you have going here. Don't come here and expect to get what's paid for. Also cute your employee tried to say I wanted to hit him with my car LOL get over yourself . Trying to hype me up bc YOUR upset won't work. I get in your culture you're not use to a woman speaking up but we're not there anymore sweetheart read more

Unit was extremely attentive and willing to go the extra mile for me(He put a complimentary freshener in the car). The service was fast and professional!! I will be back again in the future!! read more

EZ Star Smog Test Only 2 - Smog Check Stations Near Me - Berkeley, California

I had a very negative experience at this Smog Testing site on the corner of Gilman/San Pablo. The pricing scheme is very duplicitous, without the coupon available online the basic smog test is $98, a complete rip-off. With the coupon the charge is $48. The manager was extremely rude after I mentioned to a person waiting in line there was an on line coupon. I will take my business elsewhere in the future. read more

I was in need to a smog test fast, but I couldn't go to my normal place back in Pittsburg. Driving along I found this hole in the wall shop. I was immediately greeted by a kindly man. The mechanic showed me the latest deal. And what a deal it was! I saved nearly forty dollars compared to the shop I normally go to in a rush. They mean what they say. The smog check didn't take too long at all. They said 15 minutes and it took 15 minutes. If I am ever in need of a smog check when I'm in Berkeley, I'll definitely stop by here again. read more

Very professional, quick, friendly and efficient. My Prius was done in 15 minutes. Definitely returning for my next test.

Fast and friendly. I didn't have an appointment and they took me anyway. Couple of cars ahead of me but the wait time was low.

Just got back from getting a SMOG check. Umit got me out of there pretty fast, I didn't know it was cash only, but there was a walgreens right around the corner that Umit suggested and it was a nice walk/break that by the time I got back my car was ready. Umit also gave me some friendly advice on my car which I really appreciated, he didn't need to do that, but was really going the extra mile for his customers. I would definitely come back and i would definitely recommend for others. read more

Yes they have a coupon for $38 out the door. But you must test before 10:30am, after that it's, "only $10 more". Good thing there are other local smog test locations that you can go to. read more

I had a very good experience. Agree with other reviewers, the owner there (Umit) was kind and helpful. He knew exactly what has to be done. Within 20 minutes I was handed the completed smog check paperwork, stapled. I also found it located in a convenient area. It is across the street from Walgreens, Whole Foods and others. While I was waiting for the smog check, I found an awesome dollar store across the street, and was able to get great cleaning supply that was needed! If you need a DMV smog check, this is a great place to go! read more

I was charged $89 for a smog check!!! This place is **way** over priced. The manager was not very friendly. Stay away from this place.

Quick, efficient service. Conveniently located across the street from Whole Foods, a donut shop, and the Dollar Store, giving you plenty to do while you're waiting. The wait wasn't long at all however; even with one person ahead of me, I was in and out within 20 minutes. Highly recommend for quick service at a great price! read more

I called the shop, and have a Groupon, cheapest one ,even though with the groupon I need to do a appointment but the owner nice man said please come if you can make it here in 15 minuets,I jumped into my car but it took me to get there in 35 minuets, man the guy still smiled and started doing smog check on my car, thankfully it passed,I knew that nice car and I do maintenance whenever it is needed,he finished and explained nicely, I will go there again and recommend to the others go there to do smog check, very courteous place.thank you, EZ smog check!!! And it was easy. read more

they are accommodating of showing the coupon on your phone but cash only means cash only. ATM at the liquor store across San Pablo or cash back at Whole Foods for free read more

Umit took me in 5 minutes to close and did a seemless job in what felt like 3 minutes. I had a Groupon too and didn't realize I had needed an appointment, but he took me anyway. Not much more you could ask for in a smog check read more

Hassan is the man. He gave me some good pointers on how to manage a mechanical issue with my truck and he also got it to pass the smog test. I'll be back in 2 years when the next test is due. read more

It was cheap, fast, got what the DMV needed. Docked a star for customer service. The technician was rude to me in response to a question, maybe he was having a bad day. Would not come back personally. read more

This place made my day! Ask for the Yelp coupon. No delays to my work schedule. 10-15 minutes, in and out, excellent price, and service was outstanding and thorough. I agree with another yelper, the staff here are the icing on the cake. I was helped by Umit, he is super nice and very professional! read more

I took my car to a local 76 station to get a smog check and the guy gave me a hard time that my catalytic convertor was covered and he refused to run the check. He was not nice to me about it - as if it's my fault that thieves like to steal the cat's on Prius's. But back to the point. I called EZ Star and the tech said to bring the Prius in and they'll do the check with no problems as they do hundreds of them. Done in less than 15 minutes! I was so happy with his service that I tipped him. So I guess the guy at the 76 station was either having a really bad day, or didn't know what to do with a catalytic protector plate. Too bad, if 76 guy was nice he could have earned a tip today!!!! Great work EZ Star, I'm a repeat customer from now on! :D read more

The technician was so nice! I forgot my DMV notice, but he helped me figure it out. Then he figured out that I had brought in the wrong car. He very kindly told me that my car had passed a smog test within the DMV allowed time frame and that it didn't need a test. He said, "I don't want you to pay money if you don't have to." I really valued his kindness and honesty. read more

Agreed to stay open a few minutes extra. Super friendly and helpful. Really appreciated their help.

Great experience. Had a Groupon and called for appointment and got it same day. We hit a little traffic and called to let them know we would be late and it was no problem. Test was fast and owner was very pleasant. Would come back read more

Pro: Very fast and efficient. Mentioned coupon on their site and got early bird special. Professional Didn't have enough cash (I think I was $2 short) and owner let it slide. Con: there's an $8 surcharge of some sort even with coupon hence point above about being short on cash. Overall pleasant experience will recommend. read more

117 reviews and a five-star average? You don't say. That's cause they're good. That's cause they're fast. That's cause they are super nice, and I'd go back to them in a heartbeat! read more

Umit rocks! Very quick and smooth check in and out. With a coupon it was wonderfully inexpensive.

Great smog place that doesn't charge an arm and a leg. I called a shop near my home and they wanted to charge $60 for a smog and $30 for the certificate... what are they smoking??? Hassan was nice enough to take me in 5 minutes before they closed up shop. I definitely recommend this place if you need a smog. Did I mention they are star certified? read more
