I just moved to the Salt Lake valley and needed a new optometrist for my old eyes. I chose Magna Family Eyecare because they have good reviews. I wasn't disappointed. They have great diagnostic equipment and can quickly test for all manner of eye related issues. There is a nice team of people handling the front desk. My doctor (Dr. White) was excellent and gave me a thorough checkup. He had some newer diagnostic techniques I haven't seen before. That helped me realize I was in the right place. They have a large selection of frames which is great! Sunglasses to. The office is situated in a modern building. I can whole-heartedly recommend Magna Family Eyecare. Cya there sometime!

They rightly deserve their good reputation for excellent level of care. My doctor, Dr Murdock, is very patient and explains things in ways that are easy to understand. He's taken the time to discuss my eye health, and gone over my scans/images with me. He's even used visuals to help me decipher some of the weird symptoms I was having. As a result, I left my most recent appointment feeling reassured about the unusual vision issues I'd been experiencing. The staff is amicable and sincere - the receptionists, the billing dept, assistants and doctors. They're a great crew to work with.

Beyond the environment, the billing practices felt predatory. I was charged a $65 'contact fitting fee' despite having worn contacts for 20 years and not requiring a new fitting. To make matters worse, they didn't present me with the fee form until the end of my appointment--after my eyes had been dilated. I literally could not read the document I was being asked to sign. To top it off, I was sent out into the light without being offered disposable sunglasses or any post-dilation care. I would not recommend this office to anyone seeking professional or compassionate eye care.

So put out to have clients that she leaves the door closed and glares or rolls eyes if you open it. Today was the worst though. She belittled us for scheduling an appointment without knowing that they don't partner with our insurance, when I actually had! And I've used it there multiple times, same network, same plan. Tried to charge us a cancellation fee for wasting her time. Before booking, I knew they were separate from Costco and I used their own website to confirm insurance, co-pays and all. This girl refused us and was completely wrong and so rude! Later when I yelled at the manager about her behavior he was defensive until he looked it up and confirmed that our date of birth and plan matched their own system and previous records to see we were correct and he apologized for her behavior. But this is beyond ridiculous to be treated the way she does every time. I'm stupid for returning hoping it would be a different person, but not anymore. He has lost our business and that of many other people by the looks of it just because of her behavior and lack of attempt to even look into the one single insurance they partner with to see we were covered there.

When I asked if he wasn't able to presribe, the answer was 'he chooses NOT to treat any medical issues". During my exam, I could hear the doctors next door talking to their patient... but that was really the only criticism I had! They had so many machines I hadn't seen before and some traditional technology I'm used to. No need for dilation either! They spared no exam for my eye health. The cost was very reasonable! I get eye exams yearly and they went above and beyond most other places I have been. I don't have vision insurance by choice, and they happily gave me a lens prescription and measured my PD as well without giving me the run around. They also helped me with the possibility of contacts and even tried some on, which I just couldn't tolerate but haven't completely written off due to the amazing staff. The glasses here are pricy; However, you're paying for a service that other places wouldn't do for you. I would've gone to Costco or somewhere less expensive but the staff's amazing customer service is worth the extra cost. I had new piercings on my ear cartilage that were being snagged by my old glasses; Athena sat with me and found me some frames that would work with my piercings and I bought two pairs! I didn't even know the frame's legs mattered so much. She even went above and beyond and adjusted my existing pair and fixed and adjusted my old favorite pair that I bought elsewhere to be more comfortable while I waited for my pairs to come in. She took her time to help me and you can absolutely tell how much she loves what she does and is willing to help you however you need it. She requested a rush for me as well for free and I really appreciate the willingness to help! The staff is gold and they joke around and appear happy to be there so I'm recommending everyone to this place!

Got my glasses and I couldn't read with it. The measurement was off. They re-did it and now I cannot see far way. When I put the glasses on, it makes me dizzy, my vision is out focus. I didn't know an optometrist office could be run poorly,…read morenormally it's a pretty straightforward once a year event but this has definitely opened my eyes (pun intended). I had to call 4 times across 2 days before I got ahold of someone here and never got a call back. On the 5th call, once I did finally get ahold of someone, 15 minutes into the call I still didn't have an appointment and had to go to a meeting and asked them to call me back in an hour which they agreed to do. 4 hours later after not receiving a call I had to call back in twice more over the next day to finally get ahold of someone and start all over once again. All I needed was a standard annual appointment and a corneal topography. They stated that this was no problem and part of their routine annual exam anyway. The next day I got another call from them in which they said (direct quote) "I'm just wondering why you want the corneal topography..." firstly, that's none of your concern, secondly, you already stated it was standard practice so why does it matter? 2 days before my appointment I get another call which I miss and they left a voicemail saying they moved my appointment a day earlier (without my permission) but I decide I'm already this deep so let's just finish it out. I show up to my appointment and the receptionist says that my appointment is tomorrow (the original time). At that point I cancelled my appointment because this is just insanity. You would think it would end there but 2 hours later I get a reminder for my appointment which I had canceled in person earlier that day. I have no idea how this place is still open, maybe the doctors are phenomenal. I truly can't speak to them and their expertise as I couldn't even get that far. You need a complete overhaul of your entire operating procedures. Good luck!

I was thoroughly impressed with both Dr Rice's knowledge, professionalism, state of the art equiptment, and overall appearance of the office. He educated me on all sorts of eye conditions, why my vision could be the way it is, the risks of not caring for my contacts and eyes the way I should be, etc and most importantly he was realistic. I was very impressed with the equipment and technology he uses in order to run the eye exam. He seems very up to date on all things eye care related. Well, we stopped and were so happy we did! Their selection of frames is almost as good as their caring and family oriented service! We found very quickly that we were and ARE much much more than simply a patient, and that Kristine treats us much more like family. And, similar to any family, everyone is different, has "good days" and "bad days" and Kristine has been SUPER accommodating and understanding. With everything going on in our society and the COVID protocols, she took the time to text my wife many times. Where we still had concerns, she personally called and spoke with my wife and to come to a mutually agreeable solution. WOW! They even did a uv light test on my eyes with some dye, to see my tear production and gave me some eye drops. Turns out my eyes are really dry.
