I normally don't give negative reviews however I feel as though I was treated unfairly. Great service with the eye exams but was not happy with my purchase of new "progressive " glasses. No one explained "progressive " to me or how they worked. I was told to wear them for awhile and see if I could get used to them and if I couldn't, to bring them back and they could make an adjustment. We'll, I tried and couldn't get us to them so when I took them back, they told me there would be additional charges to make a change. My glasses were over $700 and I refused to pay additional money! So I gave the glasses back to them and was charged $40 for a "restocking fee ". That's crazy!!!! All they were going to do is discard the lens and sell the frames again! I have went to ECC (different locations) for many years but my last visit to the Crabtree location was a bad case of customer service. I loved the prior doctor but he retired and possible made it easier to overlook other behaviors. This final visit came off very "pandhandler" and "scammy" throughout the visit. Every room, every interaction someone was trying to tell you about a fee for this or that. When it was time to checkout, I wasn't even asked if I wanted to order anything. It was just assumed or mentioned (without any acknowledgement from me) and they just moved forward. I made it to the end and I chose to have my contacts shipped and told there would be a fee for that as well. I got my box of contacts a little over a week later and had put them up. The following week or so I get a text saying my contacts were in for pickup. I logged into my insurance portal to see what had been submitted on my claim and after talking to the rep there it was explained nothing had been submitted yet. Of course that was confusing so I called the location to inquire. I was put on hold and then the rep came back and assured me that yes they were in. I then explained that I already had my contacts. I then went to grab the package and actually open it and told her what I got and that it matches the receipt included with it. She said it was showing arrival of the contacts the day before and I again reiterated I had gotten them before then so other than the ones they received I already had mine. Later that day she calls back to say I had gotten a full supply instead of the six months I should have gotten and asked me to bring the extras back. I had 4 boxes and it should have only been two. I expressed my dismay that I now had to make a trip back there after paying for shipping and getting them delivered for this very reason. She apologized blandly but didn't seem that concerned nor did she offer any alternatives like sending a shipping label or scheduling a pickup that would not require anything of me. I thanked her and I then had to use some vacation the next day to be able to get there during their business hours. I ended up taking all the boxes I received back to eliminate any continued issues since somehow I got a full order (after only requesting six months) and then the office also got another supply under my name which just made things even more confusing. One of the front desk staff ended up coming out to stop me because she realized I had given them all back and I explained to her that I didn't want to be wrapped up in continued confusion ( just for the expense and effort to have to fall on me and not the person or persons making the errors). She stated someone would call me and I suggested that they get a manager to look at how that one order got ordered so many times in the first place because it was not good customer service experience. I had also cancelled my next appointment. And when I posted on the ECC Instagram page the same day about the bad customer service experience, they immediately deleted the comment which told me all I needed to know about their customer service expectations. read more

Took my appointment and then cancelled on me. I advised I wont be rebooking with them and when trying to book with another provider a wek later, they still had a hold on my insurance. I called and left messages 4 times and they never corrected the situation or called me back. I had to eventually call VSP directly to get them removed. Very unprofessional. read more

worst service ever. after 3 months of waiting for my appt I show up and they tell me my insurance isn't showing coverage, So I left and called my insurance and they told me we have no issues and three way call between me, insurance and this location, and the insurance agent told them no issues and they said they will check and call me back. 2 weeks pass by no one calls me back, so I call back and check no one has any idea what's going on and they told me I can make an appt in another 3 months. after I get it done I waited for my glasses over 2 months after me calling and asking because they never call you to let you know the glasses are here. you can get your glasses here but it will take 8 to 9 months. horrible service employees are useless. read more

Similar to the experience of the other reviewer (Lindsey S). Didn't really knock my socks off. The optometrist was nice, but it felt like every other minute she was whipping out brochures to try to sell me stuff. She asked me some questions about myself and I thought, "Oh that's nice, she's making an effort to get to know me." But really she was using my answers to tailor her sales pitch. It was very obvious & awkward. I don't think she was comfortable doing it. It's a shame that these folks have pressure on them to sell, sell, sell. I guess this is par for the course if you go to a chain. My former optometrist retired, and I was really missing him after my appointment! All in all it was okay. I probably won't be back. But if you're in a pinch and need your prescription updated, they will give you a copy if you ask. They try really hard to make you order everything there, but a simple "may I have a copy of my prescription?" yielded quick and cordial results. read more

Last year I went to this optometrist for a checkup per a friend's recommendation. I had already filled out my paperwork prior to arriving, but still had to wait a while. Then I was ushered back for the initial checks and on to the next waiting room. I finally saw the doctor and I didn't feel like it was a very personable experience. Next I went to try out contacts and wait some more because other people were coming and going. This frustrated me because I'd arrived a bit early with all my paperwork done and there was still a lot of lag time. Maybe they take walk-ins? If so, that interferes with their patients who actually have appointments. I feel that the doctors were certainly professional in that they seemed to be very experienced and knowledgeable in terms of their expertise, but the individual attention was lacking. There are two doctors at this location: Dr. Swaim and Dr. Rohm. Unfortunately I can't remember who I saw. After that I was informed that I'd need new contacts and glasses. Not surprising, but it seemed a little pushy and again, there was more wait time. I placed my order and expected to hear back. I didn't hear back from them so I had to call and check in before they finally came in weeks later. Aside from convenience to my home and work (at the time) I wouldn't have chosen this location when there are plenty of other optometrists in Raleigh to choose from. read more

Dr. Swaim took me on as a new client (previous Dr. referred me) and setting an appointment over the phone was very easy and did not have to plan too far ahead. One please dont go in there thinking you will get two pairs of glasses for 69.99 like the website says and the many commercials you may have watched. that is a lie you have to pay 69.99 for the glasses and 69.99 again for the frames. Which isnt stated anyhwere. I went in there to get contact exam and glasses exam too(with teo pairs of glasses lenses for 69.99). I asked three different people and got three different answers. One the exam for contacts is not 79 its 89 dollars and probably more if they actually remember to give me the exam. They will tell you that getting thinner prescription lenses 135 dollars for both pair. They assume you drive (i dont) and will try to talk you into getting non glare. (If you drive you will need it and thats 79 dollars more). Wait though you can get one of those glasses turned into shades for free. No way you gettinf teo pairs of glasses for 69.99 no where near it honestly. Unless you want regular glasses with no prescription, lol if you want those than you can get two pair for 69. Why would you though with walgreens and the dollar store selling them for less. Ive been to other places where i got better quality glasses (name brand) eye exame for 500 dollars . Alittle more than 200 more than i paid with them. Because the place i actually went to before was having a real sale and the prices wasing decieving you. If im going for a eye exame why in the world would i be only gettinf two pair of reading glasses afterwards for 69.99. I told a few ppl and they set up appointments (that was befire i actually went there) i quickly contacted them and told them not to even bother going in you wont get anything for the advertise price. My wife and I have been going to this location for at least 15 years. We are very satisfied with their service and their product. Today my wife had a contact lens in the side of her eye and she couldn't get it out. We were delighted that they took us right away took away the discomfort she had. We are grateful read more

Unlike others the only real issue I had was that they seem to double book on Saturdays which makes for a long wait. The Dr. did not try to sell me anything & ordering my glasses went rather quickly. My glasses were ready in 1 week & when I picked up I decided to order a 3rd pair for driving which I received at a discounted price. All in all I must say that $99.95 for an exam & 3 pairs of glasses is reasonable. Going back this week. read more

Please, go elsewhere for your eyecare needs. Short story: my expensive Silhouette frames broke and my backup glasses were an old prescription. For $110 (ridiculous price) for an ear piece, I was told 2-3 days to get the replacement. I can survive that. 17 DAYS LATER THE PIECE ARRIVES!!! Ms Rohm a DOCTOR, said I should buy backup glasses with my current prescription. I've been laid off twice in 3 years and can't afford a 2nd pair of glasses but Rohm could care less. The techs lie and most troubling, these people do not care about YOU!!! Obviously they aren't effected by YOUR SITUATION!!! They're fine if you have no real needs but if you have a real emergency THEY COULD CARE LESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more
