I called the EyeCareCenter to see if they were open so i could come in because i only needed my glasses prescription filled since i see a specialist for my Rx. I spoke at length to the person on the phone who even went to the trouble of checking with someone else and i was told that, yes they did thiis. Yes, i could come in today to have my prescription filled and no i did not need an appointment. When i got there I was asked to wait then told that no one was there today to help me. Friendly staff that don't try to hurry you off the phone. I like that their new patient forms were available on the website, so you could fill them out in advance and spend less time in the waiting room. They have the new retinal camera that you can pay extra for, as part of your routine eye exam. The use of the camera eliminates the need for your eyes to be dilated with the eye drops. Dr. Adkins was very personable and made me feel important. When I called with a troublesome symptom, the staff listened to my problem and even went to check with the Doctor to see if he wanted me to come in soon for the problem or wait until my next scheduled exam. They have a decent selection of contact lenses and glasses, but their prices are not the best. I ended up ordering my contacts from Sam's club. They accept most insurances and some discount plans, and also allow you to pay using your Flex spending debit card. They are open until 6 weekdays but the last appointment is at 4:30. Appointments are preferred but they try to accommodate walk-ins as well. read more

I have yet to have a worse experience at an eye care specialist than I had here. My company changed eye insurance for a couple years, so I was forced to go here when I needed glasses. From the beginning, it was a bad experience. The people answering the telephone and handling insurance are not helpful at all. I had to leave my scheduled appointment, and call my insurance company to have THEM call this place, just to verify my own insurance. Evidently they did not have the time, or expertise to do that for me. So after I got that all straightened out, I had to take MORE time off work to go to another appointment. Arriving, the experience was fairly pleasant. The doctor seemed knowledgeable, which means he probably didn't have a hand in hiring the rest of the incompetent staff. The opticians have no personality, much like robots. They don't exactly go out of their way to help you. I've had to go back for an adjustment, and it just feels awkward. They seem very detached. There's even a huge sign that says "We will adjust your glasses, but are not responsible if we break them", or something to that effect. It's like you're in some sort of government office where they hate you. Maybe these guys don't pay well? I don't know. I'd think if you paid well, and treated employees well, you could find some friendly, competent folks to do the job. I mean, they're making amazing amounts of profit off their frames, and lenses. They should at least give you a warm, fuzzy about dropping hundreds of dollars. Just my opinion. Regardless, I have heard that Spectera forces opticians to use their lesser quality lenses, and I sincerely believe it. These are the worst lenses I've had. I paid up for the scratch resistant coating, and they've been scratched since 2-3 months in, and are getting worse. Reason I haven't gotten them recoated under warranty is because the prescription is WRONG. 7 months after I got my glasses, my company switched back to real insurance, and I went to my old eye doctor to get some sunglasses. He checked my eyes, and found that my correct prescription was quite a bit different than what I was wearing. I wasn't shocked, because I had been getting some headaches, and blur. But there was no way I was going through the hassle of coming back here for a check. To top it all off, a human doesn't actually answer the telephone here. They're not going to answer until you push some sequence of buttons, whereupon someone finally picks up. Then they get all your information, ask you what you need, with detailed specifics. They then transfer you to someone who picks up the phone, and here's how that conversation goes: "Optical." At this point, there was an awkard silence for several seconds. I deduced that I probably needed to say something in response to this person named Optical. So I say: "Hi Optical. I have a problem with my glasses." And then Optical proceeds to ask the all of the EXACT same questions that were asked by the first random phone answerer. So I have to go through it all again. My eyesight is not something I take for granted, so I refuse to go to an eyecare center where they take my business for granted. My wife bought a pair of $30 glasses from the Chinese website people, and got better customer service. read more

Both my husband and I left our first appointment at Eye Care Center, turned to each other on the way out the door, and said, "We're never coming here again!" The atmosphere from the moment we walked in was negative. We walked into the vestibule (with face masks on) and since there was no sign on the 2nd set of doors instructing is to wait there, and the vestibule was glass, giving those inside a clear view, we opened the door and began to walk in. Immediately a woman ran towards us, saying, "Whoa, whoa! Go back out! We have to screen you!" Ok, no problem. We got our screening and we're cleared to go in. At the reception desk, a young woman who clearly looked like she hated her job, took our names. I noted she had a face mask on only covering her mouth, not her nose. We were told by the woman who did our Covid-19 screening that my husband had an active referral at a different eye doctor's office and would have to call the office to have that referral cancelled first. Ok, not a problem. I left him to do that, since I was called by Gina, a tech, to begin my visit. Gina was great. Friendly and helpful, she even gave me coupons and samples of OTC eye drops for my dry eyes. She is the only bright spot in this office. Dr Adkins was nice, as well. After my exam, I went to look at the glasses frames and the woman who eventually came over to answer my questions wasn't overtly rude to me, but not very helpful, either. I sat in a waiting chair for my husband to finish his exam. When he came out, he asked her what PD stood for on a note he had been given. She just looked at him. I had asked for his pupillary distance so we could order glasses from ZenniOptical.com and that's what PD stood for. He called me over to clarify because she was just looking at him like he was dumb. We then went back to the reception desk to check out and again, the receptionist behaved as if we were inconveniencing her. At this point, she was now wearing her face mask on her CHIN. As a nurse who works full time in a hospital, it's my responsibility to educate on proper use of face masks. I said to her, in a pleasant way, that if her face mask doesn't cover both her nose and mouth, that others aren't being protected from any germs she might have. She got a sourpuss look and stopped just short of rolling her eyes. The office manager, whom my husband told me later, was condescending to him, says, "What if a person has a medical reason not to wear one?" First of all, there are VERY few LEGITIMATE medical reasons to not wear a mask, but a person can explain that if asked. Not wear a mask on their chin or only covering their mouth. This is a medical office and should be providing an example of proper masking, as well as hand hygiene, etc. And certainly not copping an attitude when someone points out they've strayed from that standard. The appropriate response is, "Thank you for pointing this out and helping ensure we all stay safe"! We will never return to Eye Care Center. They left the "Care" out. read more

I finally bit the bullet and went to progressive lenses. I'm so grateful to not have to be flipping my glasses up and down whenever I need to see something far away versus reading up close. I've been going to Dr. Adkins for 5+ years. I feel like he really cares and takes the time to explain everything. On the other hand, the front office staff could use some work. There's a new person that does preliminary exam that I like. However, the person answering phone who is also the one checking you in needs to attend a customer service training seminar. The visit itself went fair. My eye exams were done quickly. The doctor was nice and answered my questions. The lady helping me pick glasses was nice but felt a little rushed. I paid for my glasses before Christmas. Every time I call to check the status of my glasses, they keep extending to "oh, they should be in next week." It has been over 3weeks, going on the fourth week. There is either a back order or the mail does not run on certain days. My glasses are broken and I am waiting for my new pair. I only came here because it is close to my work. My last eye care only took 5days for my glasses. I am still waiting. I will buy my glasses elsewhere because people who cannot see cannot be waiting about a month to see. My coworker also has the same issue. We are going to get glasses somewhere else probably quicker than before they even call us back from this place. read more

Dr Adkins is awesome but his staff leaves much to be desired. They are not friendly at all. I ordered my first pair of glasses and was told they would be in the office in about two weeks. It took three. I went back to get my second pair and was told the same thing. It has been 3 weeks and 3 days and they are still not in. There is no apology or "excuse" just that if they are on today's' shipment they will call. The prices were astronomical so I will definitely either see Dr. Adkins and take my prescription elsewhere or just go elsewhere. read more

The front desk women are not friendly and they say it take 10 days for your glass to come in and they will call you but they never call. I would never go back. They have a sign outside of the building that states "buy one pair of glasses and get the second at 50% off. BUT, what they don't tell you, or even have any brochures to explain the program, is that it is only available to people without insurance for vision. In addition, since I had insurance, the 20% discount (that's what you get if you have insurance) would be based on the total cost of the glasses and not the ordinary and customery discount. Got my files and I'm gone!!! Never, never again. Even the store manager, when I asked for him, it took him 15 minutes to come over and talked to me.
