I decided to try a new vision center. I won't be going back. They were friendly when I called and asked about pricing, scheduled my appointment. Today when I came in it was clear they had overbooked, I waited just over 30 minutes before going back. The optometrist was nice enough, but definitely didn't waste any time with small talk, which was fine. The exam took less than ten minutes in total. Then I go to check out, and find out that in addition to my insurance being billed, the cash portion I would have to pay was 30% more than what was quoted me. Oh, it's because I have contacts. Most people just want a glasses exam they tell me. That's why my cash portion was more expensive. It surely just slipped their mind to ask me if I wore contacts when I asked for the cost. I understand that I may not be the normal customer as I have had a cataract removed. But what if I didn't have some insurance? You think it's okay to not inform me and just charge me more for whatever you did to look at it? And in what other industry is it just okay to do the work and then expect the customer to willingly pay 30% more than the quoted price? To not talk this over with customers is unacceptable and feels not far from theft. read more

My son is on the same sports team as one of their children and when my son lost a contact during a game, they jumped on the opportunity to help. Took my grandson for an eye exam and it was determined that he needed glasses. The Dr. was wonderful and took time to be sure he was getting the correct prescription. Jim took over to assist with choosing the proper glasses. We returned to spend time getting the proper adjustment. Jim is very personable and offers advice which we needed. We returned to be fitted for contacs. The initial contacs did not work well so we returned and Jim recommended another brand. This time it was very successful. I have been wearing glasses for many years and now wear progressive lenses. These seem to be hard to fit. I have tried a number of different optical places and some are OK, some not, and some really expensive. I have never been as satisfied with my glasses as when I have had Licata Optical make them. I live in Seattle but travel to Phoenix a couple of times a year. This last trip I brought a pair of glasses that I had had made in Seattle. They had taken a long time to get used to and made me dizzy. I showed them to Jim, the owner, and he explained why I was not happy with them and said he could make them better for me. He was right! The new lenses were perfect and did not require a period of adjustment. My husband needed new glasses and an exam. As a physicist he knows a lot about optics. He felt that the exam was very good and the glasses were the best he has ever had. He found Jim to be very knowledgeable about optics and how to make glasses do what they should. Jim pointed out some things about his vision that he did not know and actually corrected a problem he did not know he had. The new glasses are great and, in fact, I am sending a couple frames he has to have Jim put new lenses in them. Jim is patient and loves to tell you what he is doing with your glasses. He explains all choices for lenses, frames, and coatings but does not push the higher cost options. Most of all, he wants you to be happy with your glasses. He is truly passionate about glasses. I highly recommend Licata for glasses; you won't be disappointed. read more

Jim is amazing. He spent 30 minutes speaking with my husband about his glasses and his options for getting prescription sunglasses (limited, as my husband has an extremely unusual eyeglass prescription) and showed us many frames to choose from. Later, he spent a good 20 minutes adjusting my husband's frames so they fit him perfectly! Jim is not actually in-network with our eye insurance, but he has our business for life. I went in there to see if they could get me a pair of contacts and the ones the would give me were always wrong and I could never see out o them. I cam back for another visit and then they said I needed a pair of glasses suddenly and were going to charge me almost 400 bucks. I reluctantly paid for them and I can't see one thing out of them! Mr. Licata is a very nice man. Though, I question some things. First of all, the office is pretty nice and well kept. There isn't quite much variety when it comes to glasses though. I had bought a pair of glasses from here and it was about 300 bucks. The glasses did not fit well and I just got tired of going back to get it fixed. My mother and brother also got glasses here and they did not last long. I think maybe we just had the luck of the draw in a bad experience but all in all this place isn't the greatest nor the worst. read more
