VEGAN EATERS HERE........First off, the four stars is overall, the food is a solid 5 in my book. Let me explain.......... 6:45 pm Wednesday, not a crush of customers. Vibe is super laid back, a sort of college version of Industrial Eats which, BTW, it is related to. Hi Jeff! Spot doesn't have a name outside but it was once Beach so the surf boards and tude are the decor vocabulary. Virtually no place to sit inside and it was already getting very cold. Outside limited to barrel tables and high stools, a lone fire pit that only seemed to warm the couple sitting in the flow of the wind. We knew it was going to be a fast dinner! Back to the food. Menu on brown paper like Eats, pizzas, salads, sandos, a few special items like the roasted curried cauliflower which we ordered straight away. Pizzas are on the small side, personal serving unless for sharing with other things. They may be small but that's some of the BEST dough/crust I've had in ages, kind of like Industrial Eats (lol). Toppings are plentiful, non-V friend had their homemade sausage, we split a Margarita and the aforementioned cauliflower which was sensational and, the shaved fennel and apple salad with miso vinaigrette, again...stellar. Lots of drink choices including a housemade ginger turmeric kombucha style beverage in a jar. A bit spendy at $7.00 but very good in that kombucha-y way. No beer or wine, yet. Gather there is a BYOB policy. This is EXACTLY the sort of place Lompoc desperately needs to serve the rapidly growing young, cool crowd. It can be nothing short of a smash and, with a manager like Heather, the high energy manager/cook it just will be! We will definitely be back though, having read some of the other comments, will probably try to avoid the loud live or dj music. Place is too small for that and ear health. We were traveling home from a road trip up north and stopped in Lompoc to eat. We are so happy we found Eye on I...their food was AMAZING. The bread was so delicious. The sandwiches were perfection. Our dietary needs are different, one Vegan and one Meat Eater, and there was something for everyone. The food rivals some of the best vegan spots we have visited in large cities (like SF, and LA). This place does not disappoint. It's definitely a chill vibe, and the owner is super friendly and was happy to talk about her business and the local bands they support. read more

Some of the best freshest and most creative food in Lompoc and central coast. A lot of their menu is seasonal. They have really great pizzas that have seasonal produce on them. A lot of their dishes use fresh local and different types of mushrooms. I love that they have a good amount of vegetarian options and their food always has really great flavors. A lot of time the people that are making the food are also checking people out. There might be a little late, but I usually get my food pretty quickly. They also have a nice variety of wines and beers and cider that you can pick out from a cooler. They used to make their own kombucha, which was also very tasty. read more

***CHECK YOUR CHECK BEFORE PAYING*** Gourmet chic food. Brick oven pizza with pork belly and kimchi topped with fried egg is great (for the you ones who are not watching their calories :)). We also ordered the (small) tuna melt. Delicious but greasy. Just 2 items for the visit. But portions are too small for the price. I guess I still have a lot to catch up with on the 2023 inflation in California. But....They still have Huy Fung Sriracha (a rare commodity nowadays) What I find interesting though is that while it is a self service restaurant, the bill we were given asked for a tip. What was it supposed to be for? There were no servers at the restaurant. Was it supposed to be for "Rent Surcharge"? There was also a credit card usage fee on the receipt. And since we didn't pay attention when we ordered, we ended up paying a total of $10 over our $30 worth of food for tax, "tip", and the credit card usage fee. Maybe doesn't matter for some but it does for me. So just a heads up, when you come here, bring cash, and pay attention to the bill. Some readers may be generous to pay the tip but some might be concerned with paying a tip for nothing. read more

My husband and I came in for lunch today. It was not busy; that being said, there was no sense of urgency in welcoming us, taking our order and bringing our food... quite a wait. My sense was if they don't know you they don't really care. We ordered the $15 tuna melt and it tasted very "fishy." We had just done a 3 mile walk and gym workout, were very hungry and could barely eat it. The only reason I'm not giving a 1 star review is I'm in the business and own a business and I don't want to leave a trash review. Please get it together! Lompoc needs more. read more

Very underwhelming experience. Food is okay, but not worth a 45 minute wait when they aren't even busy. As you'll read in other reviews, you immediately walk in to basically the kitchen. There's a sweet old German Shepard there and as much as I love dogs, that is the last thing I want to see free roaming in the kitchen where food is being made. Being that the kitchen is open, you can see EVERYTHING. Including the cook, who i assume is the owner based on reading other reviews, not wearing a hair net and constantly touching her hair / adjusting her beanie then proceeding to touch food without washing her hands. In addition customer service was very poor. The staff is just not friendly: no smiles, no greetings, and didn't even say anything when they dropped off the food. As the only restaurant in Lompoc with aspirations to great cuisine, I really want this place to succeed. But to achieve that they are going to have to work HARD on consistency. They appear to be a sister restaurant to Industrial Eats but perhaps it's a case of "when the boss is away..." One day a salad is perfect, another day it is half the size or filled with grit. Pizzas can be over or under done dependent on who knows what. Sandwiches can be perfect or salt-bombs. If they just served up their menu in consistent fashion, this would be the best place in town. (Well, sadly, they are probably still the best place in Lompoc anyway...) but with some quality control, customers could feel confident in a great meal every visit, instead of feeling like they are playing lotto. Considering most restaurants fall down on lackluster menus, it is very frustrating to see a place with a great menu falling down on quality control. read more

Great food, lovingly prepared and with superb presentation. Recipes have definitely improved in the last year or so. Pizza is always on point, especially if you like the old-world style brick oven char on your pie. Good vegetarian, pescatarian, gluten free, and vegan options (more than most in this area, anyway). Rotating draught beer selection, plus cooler cans and wine to try. Service is friendly, and they will take pains to explain menu items that may sound unfamiliar. Definitely the best restaurant in Lompoc for trying something new. Ambiance is decidedly indy with a chill outdoor eating spot. Whatever Heather (the owner) gets a deal/good quantity of turns into food magic. You have to check in each week to find out what special she is creating that week. Very disappointed with my last visit. The food is amazing, but the owner of this restaurant was extremely rude and unprofessional. Well, here is the story. The owner appeared then we were about to finish our lunch. She brought in her German Shepard dog, no leash. The dog was following her owner all around the place all the time, even in the open kitchen. I personally like dogs, but I don't think it is good idea to have the dog so close to the food and cooking process in the public place. Then the owner turned on a music. Really loud. Really. It was kind of annoying. A friend of mine asked her to turn the music down. Very politely. The owner turned the music up instead. A friend of mine asked, what is wrong. The owner replied: "Because it is my place, if you do not like my music then sit outside". Literally. I will never visit this place again, I would rather take my business somewhere else. read more

Completely disgusted and underwhelmed. I expected so much more from this restaurant as I have enjoyed Jeff's other restaurant, Industrial Eats, in the past. I should have left immediacy when I had to walk through a swarm of flies next to the open kitchen upon entry. Gross Service was under-par too. While were looking at the menu, the cashiers friends cut in front of us. Not really a problem, but they chatted for several minutes without ordering, ignoring the line, while we got to cool out jets and wait for their social hour to end. When we finally approached to order, the cashier couldn't tell us much about any of the menu items, or answer some pretty typical allergen questions. We ended ordering the nachos because they were supposedly safe, then went and sat down. As we headed to the back where seating was we walked by open trays of shrimp shells and other garbage. This place wasn't busy so there is no reason for this mess. The indoor seating was surrounded by full garbage cans that smelled and a large refrigerator that didn't seem to run properly, was very loud and the handles were dirty and covered with drips and caked with gross goop. This place is revoltingly dirty and I immediately felt like it was a mistake to eat here. To add to the disgustingness, I am an animal fan and I love dogs, but dogs do not belong in a restaurant kitchen. I was completely blown away that there was a dog wandering freely around the kitchen and restaurant, being petted by staff, and untimely sat at our table begging for food. Wtf is going on Jeff...? Please do something about this, it's absolutely disgusting. Now the food review...very underwhelming. The sausage was warm and it looked like it was ripped into semi slices and all other items on the nachos were cold. No utensils and how are we to earth this sausage rio it apart with my hands? We nibbled a bit and left most of the dish. Fortunately I didn't eat much as my tummy was rolling and gurgling before I even got home. I either had a reaction to gluten (which they said wasn't in the nachos), or had food poisoning due to the way they handled the food. Don't waste your money or time at this dirty funky place. My hands where covered in oil everytime I picked it up. I had such high hopes entering this place and left so disappointed. With how expensive everything is they put absolutely zero care in the food they make. All of my friends were so disgusted with their meals. Costumer service was also awful. First, this is waaaaay more than a pizza joint. This was a fabulous find based on recommendation. When I asked the server at Zotovich Cellars where I should eat lunch while in Lompoc, she didn't even ask me what kind of food I liked. Her immediate response, complete with driving directions: The Eye on I. She was SPOT ON! Rolled in while the specials menu included what turned out to be a smashing good, house-made, pork-and-chantarelle sausage served on a bed of black beans from heaven. I also picked up the cauliflour au gratin for the vegetarian at home, and talked to local customers on the patio who said they eat here 2-3 meals per week. The outdoor patio features barrel-top tables, a long table for larger groups, some square, four-top tables and a central gas-fired barbecue table surrounded by funky, and surprisingly comfortable, surfboard bench seats. While no five-star, white-glove experience, The Eye on I is a worthy stop for locals and visitors, carnivores and vegetarians, folks who want to veer from (albeit tasty) Mexican options that abound in this city (and the lesser-scrumptious, but equally abundant fast-food options). It's clear someone there knows how to cook - and has a commitment to practicing the craft - something that is difficult to find in our chicken-wing-spinach-dip world. How can this be? Years of taking friends from Santa Barbara to the Wine Ghetto in Lompoc, bereft at the lack of good food. Up to now only a few places with decent food, but nothing on the level of the quality of wines available. But now, Eye on I: it's just perfect from the 3 women working at the counter, the wood burning oven, the lists of pizza, sandwiches and salads.... we had the Caesar Salad and the Pizza with Chicken Livers. The food is very original. You can see the chef working hard to ensure her food is done right. I waited some time but it was worth it. I recommend the Focaccia, Hummus and olive dish. Also the red lentil Falafel dish is good as well. It's not your average place. So come open minded and not demanding. This place has a vibe like no other and it's all goodness. I am so glad that a restaurant of this caliber is in Lompoc. We've visited about 10 times and tried over half of the menu. The setting is very casual. When you walk in, take your time to read the large menu on the wall. The menu is constantly changing and there are many specials rotating. The portion sizes are healthy but not giant. My wife and I usually get a salad, a pizza, and a sandwich. The dishes come out one at a time. Great for sharing and the food is hot. I feel the price of the food, while relatively high for this area, is appropriate given the locally sourced ingredients and the excellent flavors. I take all my visiting friends and family here. Together, we have eaten at some of the best restaurants of the world. They always leave impressed. The food is good. Not just good for Lompoc. Good. Period. Disclaimers: There is a dog walking around. The outside patio is cold and windy and not very comfortable. They play rap music loudly that has plenty of profanities. You bus your own table and use paper plates and plastic silverware. But if that's what it takes for them to produce dishes of this quality, then we will joyfully continue to visit this restaurant. read more

Wow, what a great find while passing through the area. The pizza was life changing. That good. They make their own dough, and have a brick oven - need I say more? I've been here multiple times. I like their food but the customer service experience is so poor that I'm not sure it's worth returning. I actually thought that if we went enough times it would improve. It might not be as terrible to me except they are overtly friendly with their friends or people that look some kind of way. They have served their friends before us when we've come on multiple occasions and then barely a nod when plopping my food in front of me. It's disappointing.
