I initially thought it might just be an aging coolant issue, but I didn't want to keep driving it and risk turning a cooling-system problem into an engine problem. Their technicians inspected the heating and coolant system rather than simply topping off the reservoir and sending me home. They found that the coolant level was low and traced the issue to a leak that needed attention. They also checked the hoses and other components of the cooling system and explained what they found before doing the repair. I appreciated that because I wanted to understand why the temperature had been fluctuating instead of just being handed a repair bill. While they had the vehicle, they also checked the heater operation because I'd noticed that the cabin heat wasn't getting as warm as it normally did. The technician explained how the coolant system affects both engine temperature and the vehicle's heating system, which helped everything make much more sense. After the repair and coolant service, the temperature gauge stayed exactly where it should during both stop-and-go D.C. traffic and longer drives. The heater also returned to normal operation. I love that they didn't immediately recommend replacing expensive parts. They inspected the system, identified the actual problem, explained the repair, and then verified that everything was operating properly afterward. That's exactly the kind of approach I want from an auto repair shop. Plus, everyone was professional throughout the visit, and the technicians clearly knew what they were doing - very reassuring!

He called an hour later to report that the "musty" smell must have been from air filters overdue for replacement. I reminded him that it wasn't a "musty" smell at all, but allowed him to replace the filters. The next day, the temperature gauge went through the roof as I was driving out Route 66 near Vienna. I barely had time to steer off an exit before the power steering went and pulled into a post office parking lot as smoke poured from the engine compartment. Discharge from the radiator looked like vomit (in fact, coolant full of melted plastic). Got the car towed to Craftsman Auto Care nearby. They reported that the radiator had cracked as a result of coolant system failure. They recommended not even attempting repairs and predicted that the engine was also highly compromised. Sadly, I donated my much-loved vehicle to Habitat for Humanity. Even the least competent mechanic on the planet knows that when you do an oil change, you check fluid levels. If the guy had checked, he would have instantly known the coolant was all gone. But according to him, all good. It has taken me a long time (almost a year) to write this review, as I have sought counsel from knowledgeable mechanics and others and recovered from this mishap caused by negligence. I have emailed the shop (Abed and Mohammed) a fairly calm recounting of events, asking for their response, and have received none.

I'm really disappointed because I had previously trusted this shop with a major repair. In March, I…read morepaid $2,294.89 to have my AC repaired here. It was more than I expected, but I don't know much about car repairs, so I trusted their pricing. The AC was fixed and has worked well. Today's experience unfortunately made me question that trust. I needed a brake light bulb replaced. I had already removed the rear panel and screws myself and gotten almost all the way there--I just couldn't get the light assembly to pull free. I was quoted $160 to replace the bulb, and the amount of work involved was presented to me as though it were a complicated repair. I declined and went to Jiffy Lube. They replaced the bulb for $10.99. I completely understand that an independent mechanic has different labor rates and overhead, and I wasn't expecting them to charge $10.99. But $160 versus $10.99 for the same minor repair is a difference I simply can't reconcile. What bothers me most is that I was a returning customer who had already spent $2,294.89 here just six months earlier. This experience has now made me question whether the pricing on my previous repair was fair, too. A relationship with a mechanic depends on trust, and unfortunately this experience lost mine.
