Avoid This Shop at All Costs!! I don't usually leave negative reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience. A few months ago, I took my 2007 Infiniti G35S to Extreme Auto Works for an engine replacement. I initially spoke with Cal, who quoted me around $5,800, and we agreed on a 3-week timeline. During the few initial calls, I mentioned wanting a lower-mileage, good-running engine to replace the blown one. The final price came to $6,500, which I was fine with and fully understand small outside costs. However, things went downhill fast. Before I went to pick up my car, I was told by an associate on the phone that the engine had a clacking noise at certain RPMs. They couldn't tell me where the engine came from, but mentioned on the phone it was from B&R Auto Wrecking or some sort of junkyard. The issue was said to be with the timing chain tensioner but there was no check engine light and I was given two options: a warranty with a $1,500 refund (~$5,000 out of pocket) or paying an extra $2,000-$2,500 to fix the issue, bringing the total to atleast $8,500. I decided to take the car home without further work done. Upon picking it up, the car wouldn't start due to a dead battery. After charging the battery, and taking it home I found that a check engine light was on--likely not initially on because the car had been dead when I picked it up. The code was for a camshafts positioning sensor errors. As a full time working student within the engineering field and a mechanical background, I decided to remove the timing cover and found serious issues. The timing parts (tensioners) were within spec, but the engine showed signs of poor maintenance--oil sludge, clogged galleries, and stained parts. With this in mind, the engine looked like it had very high mileage or was previously poorly maintained, which would have been obvious with proper inspection. I discovered that the VVT sprockets, which are crucial and cost $1,800 in parts to replace, had been starved of oil due to sludge and old gasket buildup within the galleries. Despite my best efforts to clean and flush the engine, the issue persists. Now the car sits in the same condition the shop left it. In short, Extreme Auto Works sold me a poor-quality engine and did not inspect it properly before installation. I wish I had known this earlier, as I now have a totalled car and wasted thousands of dollars. I've tried to contact Cal and Extreme Auto Works for details on the engine's mileage, but of course, I've received no response. Would have liked to have given the shop more stars but they received 2 as they never followed up with pricing for suspension work we were interested in doing for our vehicle. Initially they were professional, knowledgeable over the phone and even took a quick look at the vehicle to see where we needed to start. The initial feedback was great, in terms of options to see the desired result achieved. Cal even made a few recommendations based on what we were trying to do, would have been great to give them our business but in the end we never heard back and had determined they were not interested. Hopefully they were just off their game but it would have been great to give a local shop our business because we are still not complete with what we sant to do with our vehicle. We had used there service for several years and were very satisfied. One of our business trucks engine went bad according to them. We opted, out of trust of them, to have the engine replaced. They told us rather then the expense of a new engine, that they could get us a used engine with only 60,000 miles on it. So this saving a couple of thousand dollars, we agreed. Later they said that they could not get that engine, but would find one just as good. So rather then have a new engine put in, we again entrusted them. Several weeks later the truck is supposedly finished. Excitedly we pick it up, paying near $4,000.00. The truck is used for work the next day, it runs rough and does not maintain oil pressure. So figuring it just needs adjustments, we return it to the shop. We are now told it needs Ann oil pump and that it would cost us an additional $700.00. Trusting them, because we had done much business with them in the past, we reluctantly paid. We again got the truck back and it didn't run any better. We were then told that it needed the motor replaced and that we'd have to pay an additional near $1,500.00 for labor, plus whatever the difference in price for another engine. During this same period of time they were working on one of our personal cars, which they had for a month. It ran rough and had a rattling sound. After paying $2,000.00 for the repairs, there was no difference; still running rough and still the same rattling sound. They said they repaired what they thought would cause the rattle, but it was something else, and it would cause additional to repair it. YOU CHOOSE, WOULD YOU RETURN TO THAT SHOP? read more

Actually recommended by one of the major auto maintenance shop in the area, since I had an odd truck that I needed to change the timing belt. I have a grey market Suzuki Carry that I felt needed some maintenance. I got the parts on ebay (belt, water pump and tensioner). X-auto installed it no problem. They also game me an written estimate for some customization that I intend to peform there when I have time to bring the truck back in. (Front brush guard, bumper, 2" hitch & Rear bumper with 2" hitch). I did not have any of the problems one of the review had with them. read more
