We happened to come across Extra Space Storage while trying to find a storage unit somewhere between Mountain View and San Jose. Luckily, this location had exactly what we needed - a climate controlled 10x20. Anthony invited us to stop by and take a look at the unit and facility. We were amazed at how clean the building, grounds, as well as the unit was. As first time storage unit renters, Anthony took time to explain our options and how access/security works. On move day, Anthony was super helpful with 'locking down' one of the elevators in the building so that our move crew could go up and down without needing to press the access code in each time. Luckily there were no other large moves happening at the same time so that this could be done. This saved a lot of time for us, and we truly appreciated it! Anthony and the other employees at this location have been extremely friendly, communicative, and easy to work with. We also felt that the pricing was very fair for the time of year we rented (end of March) for a climate controlled unit. First off, I'd like to thank this place for finally allowing me and my family to reevaluate and get rid of/sell/donate unused items collecting dust in storage. We now have everything we need in our small home and nothing else siphoning our money away. As far as this place, they don't even email you letting you know of price hikes "back to market rate," they send a certified letter in the physical mail. They know these are easier to miss. They don't hesistate to email constantly about paying them though. The location is convinent and quiet with nice tree coverage which is nice to drive up to. Honestly, we are just done with paying to store things we may never use again especially given these tricky price schemes. Save your money and sell/donate your things if you can. Scott facility rentals cost on 10/30/25- $29 Admin Fee on all units. Just because. $683 for a 10 x 30 drive up unit. $559 for a 10 x 20 drive up unit. Guaranteed to double after you move in. Only month to month!!! Plus insurance costs. In other words, they could have a fire, theft, vandalism, and you are responsible. Wow. Looks like racketeering here. We rented a 10' by 20' unit for two months to store our home furnishing. At home, we had our hardwood floors refinished and needed the unit to move our belongings into it. These storage units are very clean and our furnishing stayed clean while stored there. The security system around the place made us feel safe to keep our stuff there. I called them to check on their advertised rate (which was in no way advertised as a promotion) and to ask the guy on the line frankly if they would pull some bait and switch rate change on their rates, and he said that he didn't know how they adjust rates but in the last 9 months he was there no rates were changed. Lo and behold I get my stuff moved in around Oct, and it ain't even January yet and after charging me twice the amount in Oct than the advertised rate (for first month they say), they raised my rate 80%!!!!! Stay away from these bloodsuckers, may as well take a higher promo rate from Public Storage, in the years I went with them they never ever did me like this. No warning, no emails, no voicemail, just my credit card telling me about their dirty bullshit tactics. I'm out of the country at the moment and indicated as such that I was looking to be a long term customer. Additionally Anthony Amorim the district team lead is super petty and arrogant and if I were a sales or accounting manager at extra space storage I would be concerned with the way Anthony Amorin treats customers. I would not be surprised if any extra space storage location he is involved in loses customers and more importantly revenue because of Antony Amorin and his lack of professionalism. He is rude to paying customers and if any higher level management wants to talk about the latest conversation I had with Anthony let me know. My 5 x 10 storage unit went from initial move in price of $62 to $132 in less than six months. It's a new facility and they banked on luring tenants from other facilities with low price come-ons. I guess it worked. Don't get fooled like I did. Now, I regret moving there at all. I have to spend my time resorting and stuffing and re-packing. UGH! BTW, I never blame the hard-working staff. I was a long time customer at a different "big name" storage place with the same features as Extra Space Storage (inside unit, temp controlled). Finally had it with the other place's continuous price increases. So I took the plunge and checked out Extra Space. There are five real near by. Looked at reviews, scoped the places out - if people are using them, that's gotta be a good sign right? I was really excited about moving into this place. Raved about it to friends and family. Encouraged them to consider it if they had a need. Nevermind, I don't want to influence anyone to rent a storage unit. If they do, great. If they don't, great. Three months after moving in, "..our rates are reviewed and adjusted depending on current market conditions. As a result, we are letting you know...". An increase of 65.6%!!! I don't think I moved in under a promotional offer. Feeling disappointed, in this *current economic climate* it really sucks all around. I couldn't help thinking if "current market conditions" meant people are losing their homes, looking for storage so spaces are getting competitive? That would be depressing. Extra Space and other storage places are crystal clear, they'll increase prices to the extent of applicable law, decision time, pay up or move out. I didn't have ANY boxes, and thankfully they had boxes I could get and a dolly I could borrow. They're very reasonably priced and helpful. My initial questions were answered and I scheduled an appointment today to see the storage site and unit. Within minutes, Brittany ( Assistant Store Manager) called to confirm my appointment and gave me the opportunity to ask more questions and provide additional information as requested. Came to the storage site with my husband at our appointment time, and I was impressed at how clean the site is - inside and out!! I needed a storage unit after my bf and I broke up. I found this place since it is close to where I am currently living. They had told me the unit I got was $129. They had a sign that is out in the front advertising first month free and the first time I went there to look at the place, someone told me yes that is true. When I finally went in to sign the documents, I was told it is no longer valid and the promotion expired yesterday. So here I am thinking they just have not had time to take it down yet. It is now 5 months later and it is still there...false advertisement much?? I went online to make a payment this morning and saw that my payment increased $19 dollars. When I called to ask, they told me there is an increase after 5 months BUT after that I will not see another increase for another 9months. Wow! Lucky me! How nice of them to NOT have disclose this to me when thy rushed me to sign all the agreements. Note...I do blame myself for not looking closely at the disclosures but I would think that would be disclosed right off the bat. Also, when I asked about the first months rent free sign and told them what I was told when I first rented it and how I was told it expired. The lady on the phone says it depends on the percentage of the unit rented. Guess they need to keep their stories straight. Which is it?? Expired or depending on the percentage of rentals?? So basically it's whenever the hell they feel like it is. That's how it sounded to me. There is no expiration date like the original person told me. So in the end, I got cheated out of the first months rent when it should have been free as advertised. Second I have to pay for increasing rent.
