I am in the process of purchasing a home. I sold my house in the East Bay and bought a home here in Chico. Had to put my belongings in storage. The rates were outrageous in Chico and the customer service was horrible. The customer service at Extra Storage, on Skyway in Paradise, was excellent. She was friendly, greeted us and very professional. She told us the various sizes and rates for our needs and did not make us feel like we were being gouged, unlike the other facilities in Chico. read more

We recently rented this out for my sister and her college items. Pretty chill place. It's unfortunately not climate controlled so that's a bummer but otherwise the price you are paying is great. A great bang for your buck. The owner is very helpful and knowledgeable. I called to ask for the rates and she helped me very quickly. I ended up renting the same day. read more

Management took no blame and charged me 350$ for leaving infested clothes and items. I moved my stuff up to Extra Storage in Paradise a few months before the Camp Fire. While everything around it on three sides burned (the fourth side is Skyway with Terry Ashe Park across the street), the facility withstood the fire and seems to have minimal smoke smell in units that have been examined. I'm not in the area. The Manager, Amy, got my email asking about the condition of the unit, since the official structure map shows "visible damage" to a unit about where mine is) and went right down to verify that there was no damage to my unit. RATS! RATS! RATS! BEWARE of stroing your belongings. This business is so far from a reputable place to store any items that have meaning to you. After a job offer out of state I stored my belongings for eight months only to find the majority of my belongings were ruined. All my mattresses, love seat, rocker recliners were covered with urine and feces. The rats chewed the chairs from my dining room table. So much damage and destruction. Even the worker commented on it being the worst stituation she ever saw. Knowing that there was a rat investation the manager and owners did NOT notify me or take appropriaate measures to prevent the spread of the rat infestation. I have a warning about the Extra Self Storage in Paradise, Ca. I have used Extra Self Storage in Paradise twice and this final time they have lost documentation of me canceling my storage unit with them. They are trying to charge me a late fee and for an extra month that I was not even using the unit, I've heard of this happening to others as well. Sue at the front desk could not understand how I took part in their May/June/ July special deal, saying they "dont offer specials like that, have never offered month specials" and refused to call me back. I was on the phone with them at 12:06 and its been over an hour and no call back. They refuse to pick up the phone. They also sent letters to my boyfriend (alternate address) but did not send me any notice first in the mail to my address (the main address provided) and did not email me until 17 days after rent was due for a month I was not even there. Talk about slacking!!! I was told when I signed the paperwork to cancel my unit that they would just cut off the lock and everything would be done no problem. Nope! They now say that as long as the lock is on the unit I have to pay for it even though they told me I could leave it. Why was I not contacted ON TIME with MY address? Why was I told that I could leave my lock with NO charge when canceling my unit? Why was the documentation of canceling my unit not in my file? and mysteriously found the next day? Why would someones lunch take over an hour and a half before calling someone back when told they would receive a call in a couple minutes? Why after being told that the supervisor was in the office standing next to them, was I not allowed to talk to them? My unit was canceled, I had at least a verbal agreement that the lock could be left on with no issues, I paid in full for the months I used and my boyfriend even cleaned out the unit very well long before my last days available. I even moved out in June even though I had paid for July in advance. Apparently this place is not as trustworthy and simple as I assumed. BTW: On their contracts they take $5 off your rent if you write a good yelp review. Can expect almost all reviews online are false and written before the units are used. They are manipulating customers into writing reviews for a good rating before the customers even know what the place is like. Main Point: This place will do anything to skew paperwork and give out wrong information to people, just to make a profit! read more

Go anywhere but here unless you like getting ripped off. To start with I prepaid 3+ mos. rent. The 3rd day after I rented they were sending me late notices. They refuse to acknowledge my full payment even though I had a receipt. When I went in to discuss it (I admit I was upset) the lady I talked with kept saying it wasn't her that set up the account, I was using the phrase "you guys" intending to mean "your business" and she kept repeating it wasn't her even after I explained my intent. She definitely wanted to make sure I knew it wasn't her. I don't really care who set it up they would not acknowledge my payment and keep trying to tell me that their records do not show my payment, even though I gave them a copy of my receipt. They expect me to just give up almost $100 because they first lady put it into the system wrong. I have been dealing with them for 4 mos. and all get from them is "It wasn't me". read more

I have been helping a friend go through the boxes she has had in Extra Storage.........horrible experience. Lots of water damage and layers of dirt. Most everything had to be discarded. Upholstered chairs had to be thrown away because of rat feces. I would suggest going anywhere but there...you will be paying for storage on things you have to throw away. I'm writing to let everyone know that if you're looking for a storage unit, look around before going to Extra Self Storage, I've had a storage unit with them for over 4 years now and there not professional. There rules and regulations change A LOT (whenever they feel) without notifying you prior or after, just when you go to pay your bill. And when you leave there unit(s) they round up your total, that's right I said round up. I only owed $8.35 for the 5 days and she charged me $11. After I told her it was wrong, there response was "I don't know, that's just what the computer says and I can't change it" So I paid $11 & said good riddance. She want going to fix it at all. Have you seen most of the storage's in paradise ? they are run down shady and very little security . the location and the employees are very kind and they keep the grounds clean . but the most important thing is they always remind you about payments which is very comforting because times can get rough and the last thing you want is to lose a storage IT SUCKS ! read more

This facility and staff has horrible ethics. A couple years ago, my unit was broken into and robbed. At first, I let it go as an unfortunate incident. But now after hearing other stories on social media regarding others who were robbed and/or treated unfairly, I feel I should warn others considering using this storage facility. They have no cameras, units are robbed/emptied during broad daylight as there isn't night access, and they will do all they can to earn money by charging you extra fees any way they can. I've used storage facilities in the bay area and these people don't operate with the same normal business ethics so beware. Awhile back after many months without a problem, suddenly my storage unit had a new lock on it that was not mine so I had to call the manager to cut it, and we saw that my unit was empty as we both opened it - robbed of EVERYTHING. How did a fully filled very large unit get packed and hauled off in a locked gated facility without workers noticing. Their window is right by the gate and they watch people going in and out plus they don't allow entry after hours. There had to be multiple truckloads hauled to empty everything out my unit. I recently learned that others had the same type problem and suspects an inside job which prompted me to write this review to warn others. Was a customer for SEVEN years when I moved to LA and paid on time every month. When the fire hit in Nov 2018, my family lost everything. I was happy to find out my storage unit was still standing. I had to move to Napa from LA to take care of my family after the fire being that they lost all of their houses. Needless to say, finances were a bit rough so my unit became late. The grace period here USED to be 30 days, but I assumed they were giving longer grace periods due to the fire because I didn't receive any notices for a while. I had had to call the Chico office to find out what was happening to make sure I didn't loose my storage to the fire and pay my bill. After a couple months of no communication by them, I did start getting emails for the bills around February or March of 2019, but like I said, I assumed they were giving grace periods because of the lack of communication & because they lost their office to the fire. I didn't realize that they could change the grace period whenever they wanted without notifying their customers. Today I went to pay my past due unit fees and they sold EVERYTHING. Never got one phone call to say "hey dude, we're about to cut your lock open, you've been a customer here for 7 years, so you should pay it." Nope. Apparently they even had an ad for everything that was for sale in my unit. But was I even given a chance to go buy back the things at the auction of my unit? NOPE. Just absolutely heartbroken about losing the LAST OF WHAT ME AND MY FAMILY HAD TO THIS COMPANY. Just a HEARTLESS, disgusting, GREEDY company. I wasted thousands of dollars paying my storage unit fees to this place over the years, only to get excruciatingly screwed over by them in an extreme time of NEED after the fire. I know how the world works, you loose if you don't pay your bills, I'm just shocked that a super small town would totally screw over their loyal customers such as myself after a time of serious loss and pain from the fire. So so so sadden and upset by this. Don't do your business here, I imagine this place is riddled with meth addicts and greedy owners who want to rifle through your things. Pleased with the customer service, the facilities are very clean and accessible. I appreciate the Courtesy calls which are new and convenient. I feel safer with my possessions in this storage unit than any other place on the ridge. read more
