One afternoon, September 9th 2025 arrived, carrying my life in 6 bags and 1 guitar to never return to the crowded concert jungle called Los Angeles. I looked for the cheapest unit in town and they seemed to all be around the same price. Yet, Mike called me as a follow up call to my previous calls around town, his suggestions were incredible, whimsical almost. I trust my stuff being here since Michael is managing allowing me to feel safe and comfortable. Together at Skyway Self Storage, they are transforming the storage facility industry into a sanctuary for anyone starting over, schooling, or passing through proving that sometimes, the greatest acts of service don't come from strength, but from love and storage without condition.

Since the acquisition, rental rates have been increasing regularly to align with Bay Area pricing--effectively pricing out many local residents. This is particularly concerning given that many tenants began renting units here after the Camp Fire and rely on the facility for long-term storage. For example, a 9x30 unit that previously cost $100 per month now rents for $253, even with a "web deal." Although the facility claims to have 24-hour video surveillance, this is misleading. The current cameras are non-functional dummy units and the previous manager removed her own surveillance equipment when she vacated. Security is minimal after 5 PM, when the on-site manager--who commutes from Yuba City--leaves for the day. In addition, the facility's gate access system has not been updated. The entry code remains unchanged, and there is no card-based access system in place. This means that former tenants can still access the property at any time, making the facility vulnerable between 5 PM and 9 AM. It's also worth noting that multiple positive reviews appeared online on the same day about four weeks ago--some even using outdated photos from the old website--suggesting an attempt to artificially boost the facility's reputation. In summary, the new ownership has prioritized profits over community, disregarding the needs and safety of long-standing local tenants. It's a disappointing shift for the Chico community and nearby areas that rely on this facility. Store at your own risk.

Simply put, I called to inquire about availability. Left a message with my needs. When they called me back, the opening was simply, "you called us, what do you want?" I asked their availability for a unit, and received a curt, "no, we're booked." Right, wrong or indifferent...if you're going to do business with these folks, you should know how they will communicate with you.

I was looking around at the boxes trying to figure out why the large boxes didn't have handles (seems odd that only the small boxes have handles when the large boxes are the ones that REALLY need handles). I waited to see if any of the two people would ask if needed help but alas, STILL no customer service. I ended up taking a large box up to the counter and asking where the handles were. One person came out and looked at the boxes and said, "I guess they don't have handles" and went back behind the counter. I grabbed the boxes that I needed, walked up to the counter to purchase them, and when I tapped my card for payment, I was told they don't offer tap. It's either you bring in your physical card or pay cash. So aside from the horrible customer service their business is also in the ice age. Who doesn't have tap to pay as an option at this point??? SUPER ANNOYING. I rarely carry cash nor do I carry the physical cards because they're all stored in my phone to use for TAP PAYMENT. Luckily, I had a couple bucks in my car for parking meters and paid with that. I was asked if I wanted the receipt, I said yes, took it and walked out. No surprise that there was no, "thanks for coming in", "have a good day" or anything else. Literally even the most basic customer service skills are lacking here. Great place to go if you want to be ignored.

They stole all my cool and expensive stuff, lots of things from my dad thats not around anymore. Then to top it off they gave me some uboxes to store my things but they are way too expensive for me and they shipped my things to Redding to make things worse. So now im worried my two tvs are also broken. Dont ever trust them with your valuables when it comes to storage. I…read moreleft my card at the gas station in Hawaii, got a new card (old card was on auto pay at this storage unit) (30$ a month) and no one contacted me to tell me the card wasnt working. They did not call, they did not text, they did not email, they did not send a letter, what they did was they auctioned off all my belongings of my entire life completely traumatizing me and my son. They sold my baby photos, baby clothes, expensive collectables from my travels around the world, there was a bmx bike, flat screen tvs, beautiful gowns I got in Paris, 10,000$ worth of motorcycle gear. This was not your typical chico storage unit. This is where I come in between my travels because my mom lives here and I never believed that they could be so cruel. I have plenty of money and I do believe they intentionally stole everything in my unit after seeing what was in there. My son drove his car all the way from Florida to find out everything had been sold. No one contacted me about anything! They are dishonest and unethical. Dont store here if you care about anything in your unit.

In the middle of moving the unit contents around we had a personal emergency and had to leave immediately. I spoke to Max about this and he volunteered to put items that were still outside our storage back into the unit, lock it up, and hold our key for us. Max was a tremendous help. : )

There are cleaning and waxing services also available. He also assisted when I needed new batteries by taking me to the nearest battery vendor. Fiberglass RV's don't do well in the high heat of this area. The Yard storage center provides the best storage solution and service around. They will arrange storage for most of the stuff you can't fit in your garage.

The owner or manager lived there on site with his wife and was extremely nice. He was so helpful and easy to talk to; really made you feel like you picked the right place. So, I went back. Because I was a returning customer they did not charge me a deposit fee, which was nice. Good feelings stopped there. Somewhere along the line they hired some young people whom were not very competent. Extra Storage does not send you a bill, instead they call you on or about the 8th to tell you your bill is due by the 10th. If you want a bill sent to you then you have to pay an additional monthly fee. This was soooo frustrating. There were a few times that one of the incompetent employees recorded that he had called me when he DID NOT. So then I got charged a late fee. I kept my stuff there for three years. I had everything in there I owned minus clothes and books. Stuff from childhood, stuff from traveling, you know, MY STUFF. I paid just over $2200 to keep my stuff at a gated place under lock and key. Supposedly someone stays on site, supposedly there are video cameras... My lock and my neighbors lock was cut. I had everything stolen except 4 boxes and my furniture. As you could imagine, I was very upset. I'm still upset. There was nothing I could do because Extra Storage was not liable and I didn't have insurance. Extra Storage never apologized. They never returned my phone calls. They did nothing at all.
