Simply put, I called to inquire about availability. Left a message with my needs. When they called me back, the opening was simply, "you called us, what do you want?" Right, wrong or indifferent...if you're going to do business with these folks, you should know how they will communicate with you.

I have a few things to say here. I called around and this place had the best prices BY FAR!…read moreBut..... I went on yelp and saw that they had one bad review so I decided to go with another place just to be safe. I stayed at the other place for one month, I kid you not, and I had rats in my unit! I asked around and apparently this is the standard in Chico because of all of the surrounding fields and agro farms and most facilities hold no liability for things like this. I went to Extra Storage because they were cheap. I asked them about rats and if they had a problem with them and the manager was awesome. The manager was honest with me and said yes they had some rats from time to time but it is to be expected with the area. Because customers had come into their place previously they now carried rat poison to put in the corners of the units. Also she gave me a bunch of tips on how to keep my stuff safe and I bought some things in their office for cheap to wrap my stuff in and I moved in. Well....I have been here for 8 months and I havn't had ANY rats!! Fingers crossed but I think I have taken all the precautions I needed to take. Plus, the manager, I think her name is Sheila? Shelly? is so nice! I'm giving this place 4/5 stars just because I wish I could have access 24 hrs (which they don't allow). Other than that I am pretty satisfied as far as storage goes. Hope this helps.

Walked in and there were 2 people at the counter. Both made eye contact with me and said nothing…read moreyet they were doing nothing except sitting there staring off into space. No "hello, welcome in, how's it going" ... NOTHING. I was looking around at the boxes trying to figure out why the large boxes didn't have handles (seems odd that only the small boxes have handles when the large boxes are the ones that REALLY need handles). I waited to see if any of the two people would ask if needed help but alas, STILL no customer service. I ended up taking a large box up to the counter and asking where the handles were. One person came out and looked at the boxes and said, "I guess they don't have handles" and went back behind the counter. I grabbed the boxes that I needed, walked up to the counter to purchase them, and when I tapped my card for payment, I was told they don't offer tap. It's either you bring in your physical card or pay cash. So aside from the horrible customer service their business is also in the ice age. Who doesn't have tap to pay as an option at this point??? SUPER ANNOYING. I rarely carry cash nor do I carry the physical cards because they're all stored in my phone to use for TAP PAYMENT. Luckily, I had a couple bucks in my car for parking meters and paid with that. I was asked if I wanted the receipt, I said yes, took it and walked out. No surprise that there was no, "thanks for coming in", "have a good day" or anything else. Literally even the most basic customer service skills are lacking here. Great place to go if you want to be ignored.

They did not call, they did not text, they did not email, they did not send a letter, what they did was they auctioned off all my belongings of my entire life completely traumatizing me and my son. They sold my baby photos, baby clothes, expensive collectables from my travels around the world, there was a bmx bike, flat screen tvs, beautiful gowns I got in Paris, 10,000$ worth of motorcycle gear. This was not your typical chico storage unit. This is where I come in between my travels because my mom lives here and I never believed that they could be so cruel. I have plenty of money and I do believe they intentionally stole everything in my unit after seeing what was in there. My son drove his car all the way from Florida to find out everything had been sold. No one contacted me about anything! They are dishonest and unethical. Dont store here if you care about anything in your unit.

MY LOCK WAS CUT AND HALF OF MY STUFF WAS STOLEN…read more The first time I rented a storage space there, the place had recently opened. The owner or manager lived there on site with his wife and was extremely nice. He was so helpful and easy to talk to; really made you feel like you picked the right place. So, I went back. Because I was a returning customer they did not charge me a deposit fee, which was nice. Good feelings stopped there. Somewhere along the line they hired some young people whom were not very competent. Extra Storage does not send you a bill, instead they call you on or about the 8th to tell you your bill is due by the 10th. If you want a bill sent to you then you have to pay an additional monthly fee. This was soooo frustrating. There were a few times that one of the incompetent employees recorded that he had called me when he DID NOT. So then I got charged a late fee. I kept my stuff there for three years. I had everything in there I owned minus clothes and books. Stuff from childhood, stuff from traveling, you know, MY STUFF. I paid just over $2200 to keep my stuff at a gated place under lock and key. Supposedly someone stays on site, supposedly there are video cameras... My lock and my neighbors lock was cut. I had everything stolen except 4 boxes and my furniture. As you could imagine, I was very upset. I'm still upset. There was nothing I could do because Extra Storage was not liable and I didn't have insurance. Extra Storage never apologized. They never returned my phone calls. They did nothing at all.
