New kid on the block in the ever busy FMP food court. Ordered the roast pork with chicken combo. I did not know what to expect with the quality. The roasted pork had a nice taste and texture, the skin has a nice crunch without being too hardm. Not too fat and good balance of spice to giving the meat nice flavour. The chicken was flavorful, not the typical Canadian mushy chicken with zero flavour. The meal came with napa cabbage and a bowl of old fire soup that again was flavorful and not just flavored water many places offer. I don't recommend this place, they're scam artist at its best! Consider yourself warned if you buy anything from them. I order a soy sauce chicken with rice combo last week. When I was about to pay, the lady said she have to charge me an extra $1.50 for the thigh/leg portion. I argued that I never said specifically which part of the chicken I wanted-just soy sauce chicken. But she insisted that I take the food since it's already cut. As you can imagine I was pretty pissed! Another time, they sold me inedible meat with a bunch of scraps from leftovers. I was at FMP yesterday and couldn't help but notice the crazy long lines in front of Extra BBQ House. They specialize in roast pork, BBQ pork and roast duck, but also sell such Hainanese chicken, BBQ goose, and other more exotic snacks. When you're too lazy to cook and hubby is craving BBQ pork, it seemed like a good time to try this place. Their best sellers are the BBQ pork and roast pork on rice for $5.99 plus tax, which comes in a heaping portion atop steamed rice and some steamed vegetables (typically cabbage or broccoli). Although I didn't order this at this time, a burly guy sitting beside hubby and I in the food court yesterday had ordered it and wouldn't stop raving about what an awesome deal it was, where portions were often plentiful enough for 1.5 to 2 meals for most people (including himself). I requested for BBQ pork and roast pork a la carte, which they sell for $6.50 and $7.99 per pound respectively. However they wouldn't sell me a half pound of roast pork as it was "too little". In the end I purchased a half pound of BBQ pork and a pound of roast pork, which came to $15. There is enough meat in the containers to feed hubby and I for at least 2 meals. The roast pork is very juicy with a deliciously crispy crackling skin. The pieces of pork were more meaty than fatty. The BBQ pork is served with sauce which keeps it flavourful and moist. In terms of best meal deal, it is probably best to order the set meal with rice, which is what I plan to try next time. I decided to get some lunch at FMP and saw that this bbq place was definitely more popular of the two bbq places that were nearly side by side. I ordered a take out box of the crunchy roast pork with soup for 6.50+tax. I asked the lady at the cash for a less fatty piece of pork. When I opened the box and started eating I realized that the rice was garbage. They packed in mushy ass over cooked rice that resembled a rice cake. Wtf. Rice 101 guys. This stuff shouldn't have been served to a customer. In addition, the roasted pork was mostly fat. So disappointed. A good portion of the box was garbage. What I really love about this place is that even though the take out container is the regular ones, it is PACKED to the brim. They do not skimp out on the meat and rice. I am a huge eater but this combo packs a punch and I rarely finish it, and I save it for later. When I share with my mom, we usually add duck to the combo as well. I don't like duck as I find it has a lot of bones and such, but hands down this is the best duck I've ever tasted. Love it. Definitely a hidden gem in the FMP food court. I was able to visit this outlet again after about 2 years (since the beginning of covid). Much has changed but the quality of the food here has not. I am completely impressed with their food - taste, flavor and value. For the last 2 years, I have been looking for Cantonese barbecue all around the NorthEast, including NY city and many parts of NJ. None even came close to matching Extra BBQ House. Yes, the portions have been reduced and the price has gone up - but these are the times we are living in. The line was slightly long but manageable. My 2 meat combo of barbecue pork and roast pork was the most delicious Cantonese barbecue I have tasted since my last visit to the GTA. After seeing the reviews on this place I decided to try it out for lunch. I came at 2pm and there was still a line up so I think that speaks for itself. I got the roasted and BBQ pork on rice. There's napa cabbage under the meat which made me feel like it was healthier than it is. It also comes with a soup and everything came to $6.77 with tax. I didn't see the guy put the meat and everything in the box cuz I was getting cash out to pay so when I opened the box, I was like dayummmmm. Look at all that meat! It was seriously a lot of meat. I almost wished I had more rice to go with it but then I remembered I was supposed to be on a diet. Whoopsie. Anyways, I could only eat half and saved the rest for later. The roasted pork was tender, not dry or too fat, and the skin was soooo crispy. The BBQ pork was good but not the best I've had. I think it could've used a little more marinating time but still good. Woww came here for the first time on a Friday around 2pm. I ordered the special for that day which was the roasted pork and chicken on rice. It comes with napa cabbage and a soup on the side as well. The total was less than $7! I must say this is the best meat of this sort that I've had in a while lol. The roasted pork skin was so perfectly crispy, so delicious! Some pieces I got were closer to the edges so they were pretty salty. The chicken was nice and tender and it really balanced with the pork because it was lighter. The cabbage was also tasty. The chicken was amazing. Chicken was extremely tender, as well as the duck, both were seasoned well. Bbq pork and roast pig was on the tougher side and taste was bland. Portion size is smaller than the other stall as well, which sucks. Not much duck and 2 pieces of the duck is all fat, which also was a bit stingy. One of the specials that they offer is peking duck for $25. Yup, you can order peking duck from a fast food stall in First Markham Place! Of course they will prepare the duck slices from you, as well as what we call the "second portion". You'll also get the pancakes along with it, though it will cost $5 extra for more than one box. I really wanted to give this place 4 stars, unfortunately there were certainly not enough duck slices considering the fact it was $25. I ended up having more pancakes remaining than duck, so I ended up using the pancakes for other parts of my meal. Peking duck is easily better to eat dining in, not taking out. Some of the best Chinese BBQ I've had in years. Came here mid afternoon on a Sunday. There was a short wait and I ordered the daily special lunch box, which is always the daily special. It's free range steamed chicken with roasted pork and rice. Also got a couple pounds of BBQ pork (char siu) to go with it. The lunch box is served with some vegetables, in my case it was steamed napa, green onion sauce for the chicken and a sweetened soy for the pork. The chicken was done, but you've got to be ok with it 'Asian style' meaning bones and medium-rare. The roasted pork was interesting. Nice flavor and not over seasoned. The skin was pulling away from the fat layer a little bit and was super crunchy but thin. The char siu was very tender although fairly lean and again the sauce did not disappoint. After eating, I waited for a fresh pig to be hung and got two pounds of roasted pork to go. Here's a trick to that: If the pig is fresh out of the oven, don't let them cut it into pieces for you. Ask for two or three ribs and they'll put it into a container that should be vented. After the meat has truly rested it should then be cut. This way the juices and flavors are preserved and you get minimal shrinkage. read more

For me I have to try my best to finish since the portion is huge. The only downside I can find is they run out of stuffs quite early. I used to be a long-time patron of the other BBQ shop beside this one in the food court, but I've noticed recently, they've raised their prices and lowered their quality, taking advantage of their loyal customers... So with the renos completed, I've finally had a chance to try Extra BBQ house and got the 3-platter of BBQ pork, Roasted Pork and Red Sausage. All three were done quite well. The skin on the roasted pork didn't seem traditional but was crispy. The meat was more tender than other BBQ places I've had. And the price was sub $8! Way back when, this modest little BBQ shop was in Scarberia. After many years, it's finally moved along with the hoards of Chinese people into Markham and set up shop at Fmp. I always get one thing: roasted duck on soup noodles $5.50. It's cheap and filling. They're efficient at filling your orders. You can make requests such as less fat, specific sections of the duck. Today, I even got an extra surprise in my meal..... A nice chicken finger nub. An added bonus? I'll let you decide. As I write this, I'm struggling to finish my meal. The duck is tender with crispy skin. It comes with a side of napa cabbage which doesn't appear to be filled with black dots. Plus I'm staring at my complimentary soup which I cannot quite finish. I can't say enough good things about this place. Every time I'm in the area, id come here and get my Chinese food fix. My go to is the hainan chicken rice. For $6.20 you get a huge plate of chicken and rice with a soup on the side as well. More than the food, the service is always good!! The lady at the front is so friendly and is always smiling. Absolutely Fantastic ! ! ! Me and my traditional Chinese mother ( in her late 80's ) are from Ottawa. She is always never satisfied and is very critical. But after having a meal from them, she was Extremely Happy which is rare. She loves every detail of the meal that she had. She had the duck, chicken, vegetables, on rice, and soup. She said the sauce is amazingly Great. The vegetables were perfection, and note she has false teeth. She also loved the soup. The piece of corn adds a natural touch. They definitely give you the "extra" stuff instead of the stuff you asked for. Parents went to buy some cha siu (sweet barbecued pork) and certain cuts are better than the others. When asked for the better cut, they'll take the cut and go behind a metal sheet to chop it up but instead will give you bits and ends of some of the other less wanted cuts. I have bought lunch at Extra BBQ several times and I found the quality of the meat is terrible. I have ordered range chicken with rice and all I got is a wing and several pieces of fat. I have also ordered roast ducks with rice several times and the guy just gave me all the junk pieces. So it happened often enough that I will not go back to them anymore. If you want BBQ in the Frist Markham food court, go the other BBQ place instead. read more
