Be prepared to line up for your food during lunch. I got the two item combo with white chicken and BBQ pork. It's laid over rice with a side of some cabbage and soup. The food is really tasty here. The chicken comes with the signature ginger sauce. The BBQ pork comes with its signature BBQ glazed sauce. Everything goes so well with white rice. I understand now why the lines here are so long. Inside First Markham food court. 1 of 2 bbq places. Line up is long. I got the Steamed chicken and BBQ pork combo dinner Ling with their soup. The soup was rich and had bits of meat, bones and veggies. It was the end of the day so was probably getting what's at the bottom of the pot. There was a good flavour to it. It didn't taste watered down like other places. The chicken was barely OK. It was served cold and was fatty and the serving was small. I got a chicken wing chopped in 2 which had very little meat and 2 small nugget size breast pieces. The scallion sauce wasn't as tasty as it could be. The BBQ pork was a hit or miss. There were pieces that were tender and other pieces that were dry and tough or fatty pieces that's hard to chew. The cabbage side was very little. Overall it was just OK. It's basically a battle between this place and HKS BBQ two stores down at the FMP food court. We came here because the line was (very slightly) shorter and the meat looked (very slightly) better. We got the triple combo of roast pig, cha siu and roast duck over rice and I enjoyed it. The meat was flavorful and wasn't too dry. There is always a very long lineup to the stall (especially lunch/dinner hours) but I do think it moves quite fast considering. You can expect to wait roughly 2 mins per person ahead of you. The meats are still piled nice and high, and still taste wonderful. Only downside is that the meats here are always a bit more on the chilled side vs. warm/lukewarm. For $ 9 CAD+tax, you could get a mountain of Chinese BBQ and a decent brothy soup. Not the usual free soups with Chinese food court meals that are plain and usually left untouched at the end of the meal. These days, this amount of BBQ duck and pork is unheard of at this price point. I've tried both BBQ joints in this food court, which has been excellent for the occasional times I've been here. I have no complaints. Though by the end of the day, they sell out. So they don't have any crispy roasted pork (siu yuk) left but instead, they could sub us with roasted duck. You must know how to order these BBQ pork for your preferred cut. My favourite is half fat, half lean with the bone in. They get a huge continuous line for a reason. We're satisfied customers. I happened to be in the area so I dropped in to pick up some food. Access to the indoor part of the mall was limited to one entrance/exit and temperature checks were being conducted by a security guard. It appears to be a good system. Most of the stores were closed and the food court was unusually empty. There was no seating available. I ordered BBQ Duck and Roast Pork from Extra BBQ House for takeout. I have picked up BBQ there to eat at the food court and got take-out from them a few times. The food there is always fresh, hot and plentiful. On my last visit, I got for a group a BBQ Meat Combo for four people. The staff were very helpful as they assisted me in getting a few different types of meat for a birthday dinner. On this visit, we got BBQ Pork, BBQ Duck, Roasted Pork and Chicken. We received a huge portion and they only charged us $13.99. It was more than enough for four people and we had leftovers. If you are in the mall, be wary as this location typically has long lineups. The food is always fresh, the counter is well-staffed, and you can see what you want to buy hanging in a display. Extra is one of two very popular bbq shops in this food court, and has been around forever! There are some differences in the taste and preparation of the meats, but I have to say, there are some inconsistencies as well. For this reason, we tend to order from either one. I must be a creature of habit because I always stick to the roast pork and duck on rice. The service used to be very friendly, so I'm not sure if the staff has changed, but the presentation is still spot on. The amount of food has shrunk, which is the new norm, and a lunchbox cost $8.00, but comes with complimentary soup. This place is worth the 20 minute walk from my workplace in freezing weather. I came here after work after dreaming about the Hainan chicken rice all day, and I was not disappointed. Placing the order was easy enough, though I feel like they were distracted enough that they didn't even notice that I hadn't paid before handing me the food. Now on to the important part, the food The Hainan chicken rice consists of juicy chicken, flavorful rice, a powerful green onion and ginger oil sauce, and a small bowl of soup. My chicken came cold but the rice was so nice and warm. Without the green onion oil, the chicken was a bit bland, but with the oil, the flavors really sang. The chicken was plump and juicy. The chili oil that came with it wasn't that spicy, but rather sweet. Finally the soup had an incredible depth of flavor from all the soy beans, bone, and meat that was stewing in there. Unfortunately, the food court stall we wanted to go to at FMP closed down :( So we looked around and decided to order some Hong Kong BBQ food from Extra BBQ House. What drew us in was the long line up. There were consistently 5-6 different parties lining up (social distancing of course) despite the line was pretty much moving every 2 mins or so. We ordered the roasted pork and free range chicken rice and added a pre-package box of boneless free range chicken. Both items were $6.50 + tax and it was more than enough to feed 2 big eaters! The rice came with their daily soup and it was actually pretty good - wintermelon, carrot and pork bone soup. It wasn't watered down, nor did it feel like it was laden with MSG. What really surprised me was the cuts of meat we got for the rice combo. I wasn't expecting much to be honest since we are only paying $6.50 but we actually got a chicken leg! And the roasted pork pieces wasn't too fatty (except for 1 piece, but that is totally understandable). They made sure we had a balance diet and gave us some nappa vegetables. I always go to the other BBQ stall in the foodcourt but since the lineups here are also very long, I wanted to give it a chance to compare. After today, there's no second chance. This place is definitively worse. The portions are smaller, the chasiu (BBQ pork) is so much tougher and drier, and there's not enough BBQ sauce. I asked for the green onion sauce and they only gave very small amounts. I tried the siu yuk (roasted pork) and siu ap (duck) too and they were more fatty than meat. I can now safely say "been there done that" and will be sticking to the other BBQ stall 2 stores down. read more

I came home to a box of bones and a little meat that was just thrown into the box as if it was a free giveaway (see picture). The cashier even said to the customer infront of me "you get what you pay for and that's why our meat is better". So, I paid more and I got bones. Well then. So we decided on 1lb but they decided to give me 3lb because "the meat is so good" as if they're not charging us but obviously I'm paying for the extra 2lbs. What made me even more mad is that when I got home, I found lots of fat and bones in my 3lbs of meat. This will definitely be my last time visiting regardless of their high reviews, cheap food, and long line ups. I'll gladly take my business elsewhere where the food taste 50x better. When it comes to Chinese BBQ at First Markham Place, there is the "yellow sign" (this place) and then there's the "red sign" (another BBQ place a few stores down in this food court) This yellow sign BBQ place is slightly pricier but you get what you pay for. Meat here is more consistent and of better quality. You'll notice that this BBQ place usually has long lineups compared to the red sign. I typically order the crispy pork (Siu yoke) and BBQ pork (char Siu) on rice. Delicious! Their chicken and roast duck are also great however you'll need to pay extra for dark meat. I love Chinese bbq and this food court stall sells some of the best bbq pork, crispy pork, and also duck. I would probably go back easily for the crispy pork and bbq pork that we got this time around. Duck was not as great compared to other places we've been to but hey, it's hard to find somewhere that's perfect. The crispy pork was decadent with a great fat to meat ratio. Always ask for half fat and half lean, you'll find yourself in the perfect spot for pork like this. For the bbq pork, it was flavourful and well glazed. I was told these guys have been here and ownership hasn't changed since day one. There's a reason for that. You'll also see everyone with a massive plate of meat on rice and soup. You'd probably be thinking 'there's no way I can finish one of these myself' or 'that's probably over $10'. Anyways, the combos here are simple: two meats for $5.99, three for $6.99. And add a duck egg or leg for another dollar. We went for the three meats: roast pork, duck, and BBQ pork. Let's just say that one meal box fed two people. There was a ridiculous amount of meat and good meat too. The roast pork skin was bubbly crispy and not too fatty, and the meat was really soft. The BBQ pork was perfectly flavored, nice and sweet with smoky tones. The duck was also good. There was the least of that (fair enough), but again, it was pretty lean. The meats were served on some cabbage (need those veggies right?) and a good amount of rice. The meats were glazed with a ladleful of their amazing sauce.
