Not sure what all the hype for this place is for. I mean the price is cheap and all, $9.99 for a two item with rice. I ordered roasted pork and duck for one and roasted pork with bbq pork for the other. They both came with complimentary soup. The total came to $$22.59 with tax, I mean you're not going to get that price anywhere else these days. But That's all the glowing I'm going to give. On to the food, it was average, mediocre at best. It wasn't bad but definitely not overwhelming I mean what do you expect for the price. It did match the quality. So cheap price equals cheap quality food. On a side note. This place used to be called "Extra Bbq House" But I noticed the sign changed to "Excellent Bbq House" Suspicious, did they change owners or just a tax evasion scheme ?????
It's basically a battle between this place and HKS BBQ two stores down at the FMP food court. We came here because the line was (very slightly) shorter and the meat looked (very slightly) better. We got the triple combo of roast pig, cha siu and roast duck over rice and I enjoyed it. The meat was flavorful and wasn't too dry. Obviously it's not restaurant quality but for a stand in a food court, I would say the the food is fairly good. Very friendly cashier and butcher!!
The BBQ rice box portion was alright but the meat was chewy. It has been like this for the most recent visits. Meat quality has declined obviously. Regardless of the long line there every day, I just find this BBQ place is not as good as before. Just 10 minutes from here westbound along Hwy-7 got much better BBQs there. Aside from its location, not too recommended.
Always delicious in whatever you choose. There is always a line waiting for food. Will keep coming back.
Super affordable! $9 a combo in today's economy?!?! Line was long as always, think we waited for at least 15minutes, also snacked on some Siu Mai from the vendor right beside as we stood in line. The uncle and auntie were very friendly and gave us lots of meats, it felt like there's more protein than carbs (the noodles photo doesn't do it's justice as a layer of Char Siu was covered by the layer of bbq duck.)
I came here with the boy for lunch around 2pm and waited 30 minutes. We wanted to compare and contrast against its neighbor, HKS bbq. We ordered the roast pork, bbq pork and roast duck. Extra's roast pork is more seasoned but their cha siu has some ingredient that I'm not a fan of (some type of cooking wine that I can taste in Chinese preserved sausages). The pieces of roast duck I received were stingy on meat but I appreciated that it came with sauce which helped because the duck taste was mild. Additionally, I purchased a takeout container of variety of seasoned meat (sliced pig ear, duck wings, gizzards, pork, etc) and I found it to be quite good. Compared to HS, theirs did not look as appetizing or strongly flavored. All around, the meal cost $24 which is quite affordable.
Inside First Markham Place, in the food court, you can find this stall with a looooong line! The line did not move quickly unfortunately. You come here for your choice of roasted duck, bbq meats and chicken either on rice or noodle soup. We opted for half char siu, half roasted duck on vermicelli noodle soup and chicken rice. The portions are large for one person, lots of meat to go with your carb. The rice came with a side of complimentary soup. Make sure to ask for extra sauces on the side if you like your food saucey! Now onto the taste! It's good, and hits the spot, but definitely have had better in the same food court at another stall. It's a great lunch option, on the cheaper side for food now a days. It's tasty, but expect to wait for a while if you see a long line.
Probably the best value you can get in this food court. The 2 meats meal set is $9 + tax which is bananas in this economy. There is always a very long lineup to the stall (especially lunch/dinner hours) but I do think it moves quite fast considering. You can expect to wait roughly 2 mins per person ahead of you. The meats are still piled nice and high, and still taste wonderful. Only downside is that the meats here are always a bit more on the chilled side vs. warm/lukewarm. The portions have gotten a bit smaller, but I feel like it's mostly the rice portion that has shrunk.
We came right when it opened on a Sunday morning and there was already a line. The char sui was good and super fresh. A box was a little under $20. The lady at cash was also really nice and chatty. Cash only spot.
Roast Pork and Soya Chicken . If you've been to First Markham Place, you've likely heard of the infamously long lineups for BBQ meats at two locals-favourite stores. I bought from Extra B.B.Q. House this time and I waited less than 5 minutes as their chasiu was unfortunately sold out. However, I tried their roast pork and soya chicken and both didn't miss. The pork skin was crispy and the meat itself was flavourful and somewhat tender; I prefer Extra's roast pork over K.S., which is the other place. Their soya chicken is also tender, but I wish the skin had a bit more flavour. . It's hard to compare the two popular BBQ spots but I'd say the winner for roast pork goes to Extra BBQ.
Came here to get a whole roasted duck to go and enjoy at home since my nieces (10yo and 7yo) were staying over (slumber partayyy) and I was too lazy to cook. The line wasn't too long as it can get very long during lunch and dinner time. Now these nieces of mine aren't your regular one-two bite and I'm full or eww is that duck?! I don't eat duck type of girls. These girls can eat, and they LOVE roasted duck at that. Anyway, my nieces has had her fair share of roasted duck and when she tells me this duck is good, it's that GOOD. I had to agree with her as well. The skin was still a little crispy, but the meat was juicy and not dry at all. It wasn't too salty and it goes so well with plum sauce and a big bite of rice. You know the roasted duck is good when I asked my nieces what they wanted for lunch tomorrow and she said roasted duck again (Kids don't usually like to eat the same thing twice)! The cashier lady is so sweet, she saw my nieces and my toddler and offered them lollipops as I was waiting for the duck to get chopped up. Whole duck was a tad bit pricey, came out to be $45 taxes incl. I know a hidden gem in my moms area that sells whole roasted duck for much less than that.
This spot and another BBQ restaurant a couple doors down is one of the most popular establishments in the First Markham Place food court. The vibe is nothing fancy and you'll often see lines forming on both spots. They certainly deserve five stars for the incredible value and when I see myself likely coming back sometime in the future. For $ 9 CAD+tax, you could get a mountain of Chinese BBQ and a decent brothy soup. Not the usual free soups with Chinese food court meals that are plain and usually left untouched at the end of the meal. These days, this amount of BBQ duck and pork is unheard of at this price point. I've tried both BBQ joints in this food court, which has been excellent for the occasional times I've been here. I have no complaints. Though by the end of the day, they sell out. So they don't have any crispy roasted pork (siu yuk) left but instead, they could sub us with roasted duck. You must know how to order these BBQ pork for your preferred cut. My favourite is half fat, half lean with the bone in. They get a huge continuous line for a reason. We're satisfied customers. If we aren't too hungry, it can even feed two!
Searching for food, well you gotta empty your stomach before going here in this place. Many choices.

I have bought meals from this BBQ food stand for 4 years, exactly how long I've stayed in Canada. No matter how many times we come here, we are surprised by the amount of meat on the rice every time. It is really crazy to see so much meat you can buy with that price (~CA$10). And that BBQ meat isn't just regular BBQ meat; it's high-quality, delicately processed gourmet. You usually need to wait in line to order and get your food for about half an hour. However, you will feel it is definitely worth it the second you open the lunchboxes. If you live in GTA and haven't tried it, you must come here and taste it! read more

February 7, 2026 - Hm, I think there's a been a name change, but either way, it lives up to its name. The sign showed excellent bbq house when I was there. One of the two famous BBQ places at FMP. Be prepared to line up for your food during lunch. I got the two item combo with white chicken and BBQ pork. It's laid over rice with a side of some cabbage and soup. The food is really tasty here. The chicken comes with the signature ginger sauce. The BBQ pork comes with its signature BBQ glazed sauce. Everything goes so well with white rice. I understand now why the lines here are so long. Really good food at a really affordable price. read more
Inside First Markham food court. 1 of 2 bbq places. Line up is long. I got the Steamed chicken and BBQ pork combo dinner Ling with their soup. The soup was rich and had bits of meat, bones and veggies. It was the end of the day so was probably getting what's at the bottom of the pot. There was a good flavour to it. It didn't taste watered down like other places. The chicken was barely OK. It was served cold and was fatty and the serving was small. I got a chicken wing chopped in 2 which had very little meat and 2 small nugget size breast pieces. The scallion sauce wasn't as tasty as it could be. The BBQ pork was a hit or miss. There were pieces that were tender and other pieces that were dry and tough or fatty pieces that's hard to chew. The cabbage side was very little. Overall it was just OK. Good enough if you are really hungry. read more

It's been a looong time since I've been to First Markham Place and even longer since I've enjoyed a meal from their food court, one of the better ones I've seen. I happened to be in the area so I dropped in to pick up some food. Access to the indoor part of the mall was limited to one entrance/exit and temperature checks were being conducted by a security guard. It appears to be a good system. Most of the stores were closed and the food court was unusually empty. There was no seating available. I ordered BBQ Duck and Roast Pork from Extra BBQ House for takeout. It came with a bowl of simple but tasty soup. I also picked up a generous platter of BBQ Duck, Roast Pork, Chicken, and BBQ Pork was not only cheap but also very delicious! It was definitely enough to feed three people! Everything was delicious, fresh, and cheap! Yummy! read more
Value Foodcourt Chinese BBQ Spot Extra B.B.Q. House is one of my goto's when I'm in the First Markham Place area. I have picked up BBQ there to eat at the food court and got take-out from them a few times. The food there is always fresh, hot and plentiful. On my last visit, I got for a group a BBQ Meat Combo for four people. The staff were very helpful as they assisted me in getting a few different types of meat for a birthday dinner. On this visit, we got BBQ Pork, BBQ Duck, Roasted Pork and Chicken. We received a huge portion and they only charged us $13.99. It was more than enough for four people and we had leftovers. If you are in the mall, be wary as this location typically has long lineups. The food is always fresh, the counter is well-staffed, and you can see what you want to buy hanging in a display. Great value for the money, and overall very good. read more

If you've ever been to the food court at First Markham Place, you'd know there's always long lines at both BBQ shops. Definitely stop by Extra BBQ House to try their selection of Chinese-style barbecue and roasted meats, or make it a meal when you choose it with rice or noodles in soup. If you can't choose, you can't go wrong with either one (or both) of the daily specials, they're always my go to! I love that the BBQ Pork are always roasted just right, never too burnt but has a nice sweet salty flavour, as well the Roasted Pork are not too salty and the skin has a nice crunch when it's fresh. Also the portion sizes are generous, they pack full the take out container! This is a foodcourt, so expect no frills, self service and fast line ups. I generally order mine's to go but have sat at the food court a couple times, tables are cleaned very quickly! read more
Extra is one of two very popular bbq shops in this food court, and has been around forever! There are some differences in the taste and preparation of the meats, but I have to say, there are some inconsistencies as well. For this reason, we tend to order from either one. I must be a creature of habit because I always stick to the roast pork and duck on rice. The service used to be very friendly, so I'm not sure if the staff has changed, but the presentation is still spot on. The amount of food has shrunk, which is the new norm, and a lunchbox cost $8.00, but comes with complimentary soup. I still think a drink would be great, especially with our warmer weather! read more

Unfortunately, the food court stall we wanted to go to at FMP closed down :( So we looked around and decided to order some Hong Kong BBQ food from Extra BBQ House. What drew us in was the long line up. There were consistently 5-6 different parties lining up (social distancing of course) despite the line was pretty much moving every 2 mins or so. We ordered the roasted pork and free range chicken rice and added a pre-package box of boneless free range chicken. Both items were $6.50 + tax and it was more than enough to feed 2 big eaters! The rice came with their daily soup and it was actually pretty good - wintermelon, carrot and pork bone soup. It wasn't watered down, nor did it feel like it was laden with MSG. What really surprised me was the cuts of meat we got for the rice combo. I wasn't expecting much to be honest since we are only paying $6.50 but we actually got a chicken leg! And the roasted pork pieces wasn't too fatty (except for 1 piece, but that is totally understandable). They made sure we had a balance diet and gave us some nappa vegetables. I haven't been to FMP for a while, but I am pretty sure they removed some tables and chairs from their food court area to encourage social distancing. read more

This place is worth the 20 minute walk from my workplace in freezing weather. I came here after work after dreaming about the Hainan chicken rice all day, and I was not disappointed. Placing the order was easy enough, though I feel like they were distracted enough that they didn't even notice that I hadn't paid before handing me the food. Now on to the important part, the food The Hainan chicken rice consists of juicy chicken, flavorful rice, a powerful green onion and ginger oil sauce, and a small bowl of soup. My chicken came cold but the rice was so nice and warm. Without the green onion oil, the chicken was a bit bland, but with the oil, the flavors really sang. The chicken was plump and juicy. The chili oil that came with it wasn't that spicy, but rather sweet. Finally the soup had an incredible depth of flavor from all the soy beans, bone, and meat that was stewing in there. This is one of the best lunches you can have in the area for around $10 read more

I decided to give this place a try given its decent ratings. Man, I really wish I didn't. I asked for 1lb of crispy pork, half fat half skinny. They charged me 1.5lbs instead. I came home to a box of bones and a little meat that was just thrown into the box as if it was a free giveaway (see picture). The cashier even said to the customer infront of me "you get what you pay for and that's why our meat is better". So, I paid more and I got bones. Well then. Next time I'll try the other stall, pay less and at least get some decent meat. Life lesson learned. read more

Extra BBQ house has been the go-to spot for chinese BBQ meal boxes in Markham since the inception of First Markham Place. Sure, the lines are long but it is worth the wait; this place has value, quality, AND quanitity. When you're at FMP you'll notice everyone lining up at this yellow sign BBQ and there's also another one that is less popular. I was told these guys have been here and ownership hasn't changed since day one. There's a reason for that. You'll also see everyone with a massive plate of meat on rice and soup. You'd probably be thinking 'there's no way I can finish one of these myself' or 'that's probably over $10'. Anyways, the combos here are simple: two meats for $5.99, three for $6.99. And add a duck egg or leg for another dollar. We went for the three meats: roast pork, duck, and BBQ pork. Let's just say that one meal box fed two people. There was a ridiculous amount of meat and good meat too. The roast pork skin was bubbly crispy and not too fatty, and the meat was really soft. The BBQ pork was perfectly flavored, nice and sweet with smoky tones. The duck was also good. There was the least of that (fair enough), but again, it was pretty lean. The meats were served on some cabbage (need those veggies right?) and a good amount of rice. The meats were glazed with a ladleful of their amazing sauce. Oh and there's soup too which doesn't taste like it's doused in MSG. That's amazing. At the end of the day you want to go back and get another one of these boxes. read more

We were pretty lost in this food court for the first time but the huge lineup at this place quickly helped us decide on what to eat. Everything on the menu was super cheap and packed with a lot of food. Although the line was long, the wait was pretty short. You just have to wait for your turn to order and the food comes immediately. We got the 3 Item on Rice Combo for $6.99. We chose the Roasted Pork, BBQ Pork and Chicken. It comes with yummy ginger green onion sauce, napa cabbage, and a side soup. The take out box was filled to the top with more meat than I could dream for. The soup complimented the meal so well. It wasn't heavily seasoned so it tasted really clean and refreshing. Amazing food and even better prices! I'd give this place 6 stars if I could and I'll definitely be coming back for more. read more

New kid on the block in the ever busy FMP food court. Ordered the roast pork with chicken combo. I did not know what to expect with the quality. The roasted pork had a nice taste and texture, the skin has a nice crunch without being too hardm. Not too fat and good balance of spice to giving the meat nice flavour. The chicken was flavorful, not the typical Canadian mushy chicken with zero flavour. The meal came with napa cabbage and a bowl of old fire soup that again was flavorful and not just flavored water many places offer. I will return to try out their other offerings and see if they are consistent with quality. read more
