However it was still good, the crisp wasn't as satisfying , and this one was slightly saltier. I'd heard so many great things about the food court at First Markham Place, especially Excellent BBQ House. Gotta love when the name is so on the nose--it tells you exactly what you're getting. I waited patiently in line while a steady stream of people ordered everything from daily specials to whole ducks packed into tight styrofoam boxes, dripping with goodness. When it was my turn, I shyly typed my request into Google Translate just in case, and ended up with a fantastic combo of crispy pork, roast chicken, and soup. Definitely enough for two. What I really appreciated was the way they take your order, then lean over and tell the butcher directly--he goes to work on the hanging meats like a total pro. We went at fairly late night and grabbed the today special. They had no more steamed rice so he gave us roasted duck instead (which I actually preferred ). Plus, the meal also comes with a soup on the side too! To say they were generous is an understatement, cause that take out bag was heavy! The steamed cabbage was such a nice touch and balance to the meal. The soy sauce they gave was really good, but i wish they gave us more due to the amount of food, lol. The problem was perfectly crispy and the duck was meaty and juicy. The soup was comforting liquid gold and was perfect for a cold winter night. The duck had a really good flavor, good taste of Chinese five spice , the sauce mixed with the rice was really tasty as well. They give a good amount of duck. As a long time customer I've always gotten the same order they have been as consistent with their quality as their price has been. Being priced at $9, I could definitely see myself continuing eating at this place and waiting for 30 minutes in line for it. In terms of service, it was straight forward and fast, you should have an order in mind before getting to the cashier because the line is usually long and you don't want to take up alot of time. They take cash only but definitely really efficient service. Now in terms of the environment and ambiance, you are eating at a food court so it is as simple as it gets. The foodcourt is clean and there's usually enough seats for everyone, so do not worry. Excellent BBQ is a tad out of my way for Chinese BBQ. It's a bit pricey and just not drive 20 minutes out of my way worthy. Don't get me wrong, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Excellent BBQ. Indeed it is fairly Excellent, and if you're near by, it's probably an okay regular place. My defining meat for all Chinese BBQ places is the roasted pork. Do they find quality pigs and is the skin done just right? That means not burnt, and not underdone or have been sitting there so long that it's rubbery. It's got to be the consistency of potato chips. Excellent BBQ, passed the piggy test, but just wasn't as flavourful with the other marinades with their soya chicken and roasted duck. You can find this little place nuzzled in the middle of the food court, hard not to spot with the BBQ hanging under the heat lamps. As per usual the regular duck and roasted pork pretty standard finished work linner, that means lunch and dinner for the ones who needed help with that definition. Duck was superb, it's as if they just sent the dog in the Nintendo game duck hunt to just retrieve it and bring it over to the kitchen... the pork was crispy and roasted to perfection juicy I'd say. The chicken was really good and flavourful but the BBQ was a little dry and in really small pieces so not as enjoyable as I would like. I ordered the #16 meal, which was chinese sausage with soy cuttlefish with rice. However I replaced rice with thick vermicelli noodle soup, since I'm not a fan of white rice. It was quickly made, despite the fact the broth was overflowing and I spilled a good amount in the tray. The overall food was okay; nothing exciting to take away from. However for $7.99 + tax, it was a little bit on the expensive side, as you can easily fill your stomach for $5-6 with the options available in the food court. If you strictly want BBQ food (or you wanna order some BBQ to take out) and you're in the area, then this place is pretty much the only place you can get BBQ unless you go to T&T.
