I had originally heard about Faking It by an online search for salons near where I live that do extensions. It was my first time getting them and I wanted to go to someone who would know what they were doing and not do a half hearted job on it. For years I have gone to the same hair dresser for cuts and color but when it was time to make a switch, Faking It had seemed like the best fit for me and I have never been happier saying that I'm faking it. I had scheduled a consult with Kathi prior to all the snow that Boston received and we had set up an original date to put the extensions in. Since I had known absolutely nothing about extensions, she walked me through each type and we figured out which would be the best for me. Both Kathi and Regina had been in the salon that day and both offered me advice based on their previous personal experiences with extensions which made me feel more welcomed and like they actually cared instead of just trying to get me to do the extensions in their salon. I left feeling comfortable with the order and Kathi and I had set up an appointment to get them put in. Then all the snow hit Boston and after some delayed shipments due to it all, the day finally came. I knew it would be a long appointment with putting in all the extensions (I went with the Keratin Bonds), but I never felt bored. Kathi managed to keep me entertained during my entire time in the chair by keeping the conversation going and listening to me rant about people who had made me aggravated. I even went in a week late to get an other pack of hair added. After all the hair was installed, Kathi went over care and gave me tips as to what kind of brush to use and what products to stay away from. She let me know that if I had any questions to just let her know and she would get back to me as soon as she could. A month later, I am still in love with the extensions and I had the idea of wanting to add some color to them to make them more fun. I figure if I'm going to fake it, I wanna fake it the best way I can. All I had to do was let her know I was interested in adding color, we set up an appointment and I found myself right back in the chair. All I did was show her a picture of a similar style that I wanted and she did an absolutely AMAZING job and it came out exactly how I wanted it. I would most definitely recommend Faking It! Salon to anyone, not only is it a comfortable environment but I personally didn't feel like a "customer" like I have in chain salons. This may be a lengthy review. But just like all you other yelpers, I read all the reviews before trying a new place.... Before coming to Faking It, I was getting my extensions and color done at a "Bostons best" Salon on Newbury St. I was never really happy with the services I was receiving and I was paying an arm and a leg for them. Tired of not being happy, I started searching for a more local salon and came across Faking it. I emailed back and forth several times with Regina. I had blonde highlighted hair and wanted to go a more chocolate brown and maybe add extensions. I have had extensions on and off for the past 10 years and am extremely picky. Regina asked me to send photos of what I wanted. She answered all my questions and never made me feel like I was annoying. I had never met Regina prior to my appointment, but she was so kind in her emails that I was comfortable taking a leap and trying a her for extensions. The day of my appointment Regina was on time, welcoming and professional. Regina colored my hair, then put in the extensions. Not only were the extensions done quickly and painlessly but they blended perfectly! BY FAR the best I've ever had!! I couldn't have left the salon happier!! Since my first visit a year ago I have been to the salon many more times. I normally email Regina to make my appointments. She usually responds pretty quickly with her availability. My last visit was this Thursday. Regina took me from a grown out brown balayage to a beautiful blonde. Again, I left the salon beyond happy! One of the biggest issues I've had with other salons/stylists in the past is time management and the stylist being over booked. I hate getting my hair done and feeling like the stylist is rushing. I have NEVER felt like that at Faking It Salon. Regina has always been ready for me when I arrive and has never made me feel like she needs to get me out of her chair. When you get your hair done with Regina you have her undivided attention throughout your entire appointment time. I can't say enough wonderful things about Regina and her salon. Like me, Regina is a mom of small children. My time in her chair is easily passed exchanging stories of what are little ones are doing and sharing parenting tips. Regina is one of the most talented stylists I've met, she is a sweet, funny, down to earth person who will make you feel comfortable and beautiful!!! read more

So I don't think I'll be able to beat Perry or Julie, but I'll give it my best shot. Honestly, I had no idea what to expect . I had never bleached my hair or visited a salon by my own will before, so this experience really gave me a great first impression as to what I should expect. First off, the atmosphere, something I pay keen attention to when entering a foreign establishment, was relaxed and welcoming to all that entered. From the consultation to the actual bleaching process, I felt an immense positive and fun vibe. I enjoyed every step of the way and actually found myself not wanting to leave. The staff cannot be described in any other way except diligent, professional, and charismatic. I felt secure and confident from the moment I sat in the chair on my first day with Regina getting a feel of my hair to the final process. As a chocolate aficionado, the complementary chocolates were enough to win me over. At first, I was bent on bleaching my hair to the lightest shade of white I could handle. Unfortunately, for a guy with black hair, that wasn't possible without applying more than two coats of bleach; an extreme I was comfortable without. My stylist did not disappoint in the least. Along with the interesting dialogue about our lives, the color totally exceded my expectations; with my approval being met by the impressed remarks of the wonderful ladies onlooking the end result. Overall, I left the salon a happier and more confident guy. The cost and short intervals of pause are small prices to pay for an excellent outcome. I'm sure to schedule another appointment without a doubt once my roots crawl out. As hoped, I was bombarded with enquiries and compliments once I made my hair public. For every person that asks, I point them in the direction of the salon that helped me see myself in a whole new light; Faking It! P.S. What can be said about Kathi other then she is AMAZING!!!!!!!! My sister, mother and myself went to her and shed was fantastic in every way. They both got extensions while I got may hair cut and colored. They both have very thin hair too. They were both nervous but she had a way about her that made them feel so comfortable and confident during the process. They both came out looking absolutely fantastic and had full voluminous hair. For my sister she kept it long and luscious, which made it look so real and for my mother she cut it the same length that it was but because it was already short it looked so full. Especially because they have such thin hair and it looks so real. When she and i picked out my hair color I was nervous and excited because i haven't had my hair color done in years. She talked me through it and while she was blowing it dry I saw what the color looked like and it was exactly what I wanted in every way. She then cut my hair and did it the exact way i asked for while still styling it to make it have a bit more of an edge to it, which I love! I went to the salon after so many research about Hair Extensions ( there is not enough advertising for hair extensions here in Ma). So after having a consultation with Regina I made the appointment as well, I wanted to give it a try. It is my first time wearing hair extensions!!!, I always wanted to but ( again we are in Ma NOT LA). I had to confess I was a Lil nervous about it, but I read Regina's reviews and not such thing I could go wrong....and I was right!!! Regina did an AMAZING job, she knows her stuff, she knows what she is doing( except that she told me to hold the extensions for he, and i mess hem up LOL), Regina is a MASTER in hair extensions, she is so friendly and a sweetheart, she loves what she does,that is why her work is all well done. Yes she works fast but not desperately, and is by appointment only which I personally think is a good thing because there is not rush to get the next client. First yelp review merited by an awesome experience! Last week, I got some very comfortable, beautiful, and natural-looking extensions from Regina, and I have since been receiving daily compliments on how full and long my hair has grown (teehee!). These are my first extensions. I was thinking of getting them for a while; my natural hair is fine and shoulder-length and looks great when I put in work to blowdry or curl with product but otherwise falls flat. It stubbornly hasn't grown past shoulder-length since my teenage days, but I had a hunch that if my hair was long again I'd spend a lot less time on it daily. My hunch was right! Now that it's long it looks great with a 5-min blowdry to the roots; Regina matched my wavy-when damp texture perfectly. No more effort or fiddling with it every bathroom break: I just dry it and forget about it and look great all day. One last thing: this place is well worth the (cheap) mbta ride out. Some reviewers said they had to drive here but it was only a 50-min subway/bus trip from Harvard square. So worth the quality and value! You rock Regina! read more

I haven't colored my hair at all in 7 years because I actually really love the natural color of my hair. But a few weeks ago I got bored, and wanted a slight change. I decided to get some peek-a-boo highlights. A few of my friends had told me about their great experiences that they had at Faking It, and I decided that I wanted to give it a try... Prior to this, I had also been going to the same salon since I was like ten! Lol. I have a sensitive scalp, and had some concerns, but Regina put me at ease right away. She was professional, kind, and has a true love for her work. She assured me that she could give me the look I had wanted, without any damage to my scalp or hair. She then custom made my color. Its so pretty and natural looking. She gave me a great cut as well, and uses only quality products in her salon. My hair looks great. :) You've gotta add her facebook page and see the amazing before and afters! This salon is definately unique and worth going to. Kathi is a 5 Star Hairdresser! I followed her from her last salon and have been nothing but happy with every process she has ever done to my hair. I met Kathi by walking in the salon & asking for hair extensions, not knowing anything about Kathi or hair extensions. She sat me down matched my colors, I left a deposit & made an apt for 2 days later to have my extensions put in. The extensions were perfect & so real looking no one ever questioned if they were real or not. From there I was hooked! Kathi has since colored, foiled, cut my real hair & extensions & I am always pleased with how it comes out. Also Kathi has always gone above & beyond for me - like when I pulled a Beyoncé & got my hair all matted she ordered me a new set of extensions while she was on vaca & I was in her chair upon her return, or when it was 100 degrees out & she made a house call so I would be comfortable. I've been seeing Regina for my hair and lashes for the past two years. I've gone in with bad root-touched-up hair that desperately needed to be corrected (done by yours truly with beautiful orange results). I went in after my already thin/fine hair had significantly thinned out from a hormonal shift. I went in wanting to try the ombre look. I went in wanting beautiful, but natural-looking lashes. Each time, without fail, Regina delivered, and I left her salon with that little extra boost of confidence that gorgeous hair or mile-long lashes can give you :) The one time I wasn't 100% satisfied with the tone of my hair after she'd given me highlights, Regina was happy to alter the look to make sure I still left there feeling like a million bucks. Not only is she a true talent, but she does everything with a smile and takes the time to really get to know her clients. My wife and I went in to get our hair done here because what I wanted I knew would be a challenge. After reading the reviews in yelp, I felt confident that I would find what I was looking for at Faking It. The artist is Kathi Duggan and I swear she had me in stitches the whole time. Both she and Regina were there and it was so much fun watching them work off each other both in humor and their art! My request was for 3 colors Purple, Teal and Deep Blue. I have very curly hair and can honestly say that this was the best hair design ever. Over the past fours months, not 1 or 2 but FOUR, my curls have changed colors creating a brand new look every month! Also, having grey hair to "hide" this color scheme dominates in ways I just could not predict! I am booking right now for the next coloring and I am so excited! Going for four colors this time :) I will add that my wife had very similar effects in regard to longevity of coloring to cover grey hairs! She will be going back also! read more

Kathi is literally the most awesome stylist I have ever had. She is so professional, talented, and fun to work with. This was my first experience having extensions done, and she was absolutely phenomenal! She was so efficient and did a very thourough job, making sure every piece was perfectly placed. I can't stress enough how much I appreciate a perfectionist as my stylist. Not to mention that she also picked the perfect color extensions to match my hair color, (she has quite the eye for this), and did a great touch-up to my color and trim on my natural hair. The overall salon experience was very enjoyable. All the women who work there were so fun and friendly! They all look like punky mermaids and they are my new style icons! Stay away from this horrible place!!! She harasses negative reviewers from several accounts this place is horrible and Regina is a horrible person con artist tried to get my boyfriend to pay twice and then say we never did when he showed me the bank statement I wrote a negative review! Got harassed by her husband and others from numerous account that uses a post positive reviews on here note that when a negative review goes up a bunch of phony ones go right up of positive things! By the way I talk to the West Roxbury police department anyone getting a bad haircut should do sell it is illegal the prices she charges in the service that she provides are night and day!!!! read more

I have been getting hair extensions for over ten years and I thought I knew everything about them...until I had the pleasure of meeting Regina. She did an AMAZING job on my hair...this is the best set of extensions I have ever had. Regina really listens to what you want and then executes the job even better than you could have imagined! She matched my hair color perfectly (just from using a picture I had sent her), filled my head with beautiful quality hair, and then cut and blended the extensions so they look completely natural. I had to cut my hair short due to damage. I was devasted because I never messed with my dark brown hair until my 10 year old son was bullied at school for his red hair. I processed and bleached my hair to get it red to show him how much I loved his hair. After months of bleaching I could no longer keep up with it and needed to cut it short. I went to Faking It salon and met Regina. She was an absolute dream! She made me feel so comfortable and her work is incredible. She gave me long hair extensions in 2 hours. I noticed this new salon near my job, called on my lunch, and spent the next few hours after work there with the friendliest stylist, Regina! I got a Keratin treatment for the first time, and my naturally curly hair which is a nightmare to blow dry and usually takes at least 45 minutes, was transformed and I am thrilled to report only takes about 10-15 to blow dry now! It's shinier and feels so soft, I will def be getting another one in a few months! I also got a full set of eyelash extensions, which I am OBSESSED with! I have gotten so many compliments, and have went from wearing eyeliner and mascara everyday to just some bronzer. Regina has been doing my hair for a few years now and honestly I didn't think it was possible but she just keeps getting better & better at what she does!!!! She is always educating herself on new techniques and keeping up with the latest trends. I came to her with dry, damaged hair and I don't know how it is possible to go from dry, damaged dark hair to HEALTHY, soft and shiny blonde hair but she made it possible! My color is always perfect & my extensions are perfectly placed so that they always go undetected & look so natural. I honestly don't know what I would do without her. Regina has done my hair and makeup a number of times at photoshoots and she never fails to amaze me each time. A few weeks ago at a shoot I was telling her how I have been wanting to go lighter (almost white) for a long time but my current hair stylist was afraid to do it to my hair. I was in desperate need of a new lash technician. It had been a month since I had them refilled and was not wanting to go back to Fall River. I researched for weeks and came up on Faking It Salon.
