I got my new car smoged with no hassle or wait. They also did the title transfers in minutes. No waiting in long lines at the DMV. I will highly recommended this place. Customer service is excellent the tech here knows what they are actually doing not like other smog places. read more

Fast and easy smog check! Would definitely recommend them and will be coming back again in the future. I was in and out within 15 minutes.

If you need an honest auto mechanic, this is your place. Steve is great. I have been there several times, and each time has been excellent. Great customer service and the work is always done on time. My last experience was the best, and something I have to share. My Kia was blowing white smoke out of the exhaust. I took it to the dealership and they said, "new engine, $9200." I had it towed to Cal State because I know Steve to be honest. He did a pretty extensive analysis and found a problem with the turbocharger. The car needed a new turbo, NOT a new engine. Total cost was a little over $1000. Because they took the time to really look, I saved several thousand. I'm telling you: an honest auto mechanic is like GOLD. If you are in the Tri-Valley area, go to Cal State Auto. read more

Todd and Steve are the best! I got referred to Todd twice from separate people, one being his neighbor who is my client, and another friend recommended them as well so I figured what are the odds let's give them a go! I needed a trustworthy mechanic who wasn't going to ring me on prices because I'm young, and not very car savvy. I've gotten several jobs done here including engine mounts, failed brakes, emissions failures, my timing belt replacement and probably a few more things I can't remember. The prices he charges is always more than reasonable, his markup is very fair and he doesn't push me to get things fixed that aren't necessary. Steve has called me saying that they /could/ do a replacement of a part but due to the system and how it pulls engine codes, it may not be what's actually causing the issue and told me only to worry about it if it gets worse so I don't waste my money. He also doesn't half-ass jobs and explains why they need to do a certain job if it wasn't what I was expecting. They often perform diagnostics for free even if I decide not to get the work done. He offers oil changes for something around $25 which is well worth it when I'm busy. The only thing is these two are so good, they are almost ALWAYS busy. A lot of times if it's something major and you get it in first thing in the morning they can get it taken care of quickly, but minor things often need to be scheduled a few days out. It's not a bad price to pay for the affordability and trust factor. I've referred my mom here and he treats her just as well and fairly on both of her cars. I've recently bought a brand new car, so wont be needing Todd or Steve's services for a while but will definitely continue to refer people to them if they need an affordable and trustworthy mechanics! read more

I had an air conditioner hose leak and I was worried it would be very expensive. Todd was able to get it replaced, and serviced the AC system. I was on my way within a day and he didn't clean out my wallet! Honest, up front, and reasonable, Cal State Auto has my business. read more

Steve is awesome. We have been taking our cars here for about 5 years. We have had a transmission put in, oil changes they have even fixed things that the dealerships have done a crappy job fixing. They have always been honest and affordable. read more

Cal State Auto has always given me superb service. Friendly staff & helpful information for the variety of cars I've owned. It's a little hidden from the main road, but worth the find. read more

Through the years, I've been to many automotive places. I was recommended by my mom and dad. Seeing that my dad Said Todd seemed to be an honest mechanic said a lot to me. I checked them out and I have to agree. Service is great, no bs and they take care of their clients! Definitely recommend Cal State Automotive. read more

Hardeep was very kind and pleasant! I would definitely recommend Express Smog. I was in and out within 15 minutes. Highly recommend this place! read more

If you've ever had a poor experience with a mechanic do yourself a favor and take your vehicle into Cal State Automotive next time it needs service. I'm not a mechanic by any means but I've done enough automotive work over the years to know when I'm being lied to. Steve is totally upfront and honest though. It's really refreshing. I can't remember the last time I've done business with a shop that I've been comfortable enough to send my wife in by herself for a major service or repair. Auto repair is inherently expensive and inconvenient. When you're ready for a seasoned pro you can trust to be in your corner give Steve at Cal State Automotive a call. My only regret is that it took me 10+ years in Livermore before I discovered this shop! read more

Great service at a great price. Friendly owner had me out and on my way in less than 20 minutes on a same day appointment. Location is on Cherokee Lane just north of Lockeford Street (across from Grape Festival Grounds). read more

After a frustrating situation taking my car to the dealer for an oil change, the dealer claimed I needed $1000 worth of work, I called Cal State Automotive to get a second opinion. Todd (the owner) was wonderful, he looked at my car and informed me of what he felt was "actually necessary to fix it, and it sounded to me like the dealer was just trying to get me to do unnecessary work and spend more $$ then needed. When the repairs were done, my all the car needed was NEW brakes!! Todd gave me an excellent price (half what the dealer quoted) and even went so far as to show me the rotors that had rusted and needed to be replaced (the dealer claimed that only the pads, rotors and wheel bearings needed changing). I felt well taken care of and that my car was in good, trustworthy hands. This is the car that I used to drive my children around and apparently I had a faulty tire that could have blown at any time that the dealer overlooked...well, lets just say...Todd is the auotomotive man I'll be "DEALING" with in the future!! read more

I've had Todd fix several cars over the years and ALWAYS get great customer service, a very fair price and most importantly, the job is always been done perfectly! He's had every repair fixed quickly and I've never once had to call and find out where they were with the repair. I only trust Cal State Automotive and Livermore is lucky to have him! Thanks Todd, Doug Kloppenburg read more

These guys are great! No BS, great price and great service. Had the brakes done on my 2008 Titan 4x4 and couldn't be happier. I will be taking my other car (67 Camaro) in next for some suspension work. read more

Cal State Automotive provides excellent service & great rates. I have a 2008 Altima that has had front end "noise/vibration" since work that was done @ dealer earlier this year. The dealer couldn't figure out the problems after several weeks of work & lots of $ out of my pocket. I took my car to Todd last week & within 1/2 of a day he knew what the problem was (left front strut) & made the repairs, I picked up the car @ no charge so I could drive it to make sure I was happy w/the repair. I don't know anyone that would do that so this shows incredible integrity in my opinion. I took the car back yesterday for the right strut to be replaced & he also made arrangements to have the car aligned & suggested I get a new set of tires. I drove my car home last night & it feels like new! I'm impressed & will definitely be back in the future for service. Thank you Todd & Steve!!! read more

Steve from CalState is the best thing that ever happened to my 2003 InfinitiG35 and to me, her owner. I took my car to the Infiniti dealership and was handed a list of what they wrote were all these problems with my car. My car had less than 45,000 miles on it! The cost of all these supposedly problems with my car exceeded $5,000.00. I was flummoxed and mad at what I was told. When I asked if these problems were a safety issue I was told "No" but that if I wanted to keep my car then I should have it repaired. I checked Yelp for the top 10 automotive repair shops and read the many positive comments about Cal State and Steve. I met with Steve and he went through the check list from the dealership and found only 2 things that were wrong and they were not major issues. I will say this again - STEVE IS THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO MY CAR! - He is completely honest, very professional and very knowledgeable. I had many more things done to my car which were my choices but Steve also found a radio repair shop in Florida that repaired my car radio that didn't work since 2013 due to a factory defect which according to Infiniti was not a recall. After more than 4 years my car radio is now working and let me tell you the sound from the acoustics of this car is unbelievable! THANK YOU STEVE! Being a single woman it is a great feeling to find a repair shop and a mechanic that respects you and treats you with the utmost respect and consideration and honesty. I recommend CalState and Steve wholeheartedly!!! My car drives like a dream, better than when I first bought it! read more

I have used Cal State Automotive services for many years and have always been very satisfied. Todd (the owner) stands behind his work and is a honest person to deal with. I can't say how happy I am to have found a shop like this one. The guys here are genuine and I have always been given the best service at an affordable price. I took my car in for an oil change a few months ago before going on a trip and when I told them about how I was leaving the next day, they did a check on my car to make sure I was good on fluids and all that. Unfortunately, they let me know I needed breaks but he said he would be able to do it right then and at a great price. I was so grateful that they took the time and I never feel like I am being ripped off like so many other shops do. I will always refer people to them! Thanks Cal State! read more

This is the only place I take my car and truck to. I even get my oil changes here because I don't trust anyone else with my vehicles. Definitely the most honest mechanics that I have ever dealt with. They give honest answers about what is wrong, and will even tell me if I can wait a while to fix something since I am a student and don't always have the money at the time. I recommend this shop to everyone i know. read more

Todd at Cal State Automotive deserves nothing less than five stars. This month alone we had to take all three of our cars in for repairs and to be serviced. Todd was done in a timely fashion and was fairly priced. I'm so relieved we have such an excellent technician in our hometown that we can trust our vehicles to. I won't take my car to anyone else- read more

Came here because my spark plug in my 2010 Mini Cooper S was broken in half and the threaded part was stuck inside. I had my car towed here all the way from Santa Cruz($500 for the tow) because I trusted Michael. I am so glad that I did because he took excellent care of my car. I had it checked at a shop in Santa Cruz but they just bang things and kinda made things worse. Michael realized their damage and even fixed what they did. If you are having trouble finding a reliable place look no where else. I am from Sacramento and was lost when trying to find someone in the Bay Area u till I talked to Michael. Plus pricing was exceptional. read more
