I want to give a huge shout-out to Mike and his team. They worked tirelessly to resolve the issues with my Chevy Cruze. The repair definitely took more time and money than I expected, but Mike went to great lengths to figure out why my A/C wasn't working. First, they discovered the turbo pipe needed to be replaced--something I had already replaced three years ago at a certified Chevy dealer. Then we found out the valve cover gasket also had to be replaced due to shoddy work and stripped screws from that prior service. Mike even smoke-tested the system to track down the remaining problems. From the bottom of my heart, I can say this team is honest, dedicated, and incredibly hard-working. This place does not offer free retest. You will pay twice for services rendered. I went to this place because the original shop I go to was closed. It being a Sunday we got right in and was told that I needed to drive an additional 150 miles before it would pass smog because I disconnected the cables from the battery. We had a coupon for $31 but it wasn't honored because my jeep Wrangler was considered an SUV so it came up to $41 after driving the additional 150 miles. I went back for services, I then passed the smog and my total came up to $52. That's an expensive smog.!!!! I have plenty of time today and lingering frustration to look into this business. They go by the following business names: 1. STAR Station - Lodi Smog Center (business name on Google) 2. A Star Smog and Diagnostics (seen on their logo when you click on their website) 3. Tokay Shell Smog Check (as shown in the "About the Business" section) 4. Astar Smog & Diagnostic (currently on Yelp. Yes, there are only minor differences from #2, but also shows they're sneaky) That is shady, having multiple names. Please stick to one name and stand by it proudly. On Google reviews, I read that they make fake coupons and Groupons and won't honor them. A few months ago, I brought my husband's truck here to get his AC repaired. I was worried about the cost, and the guy told me, "Don't worry. The worst-case scenario would be replacing the compressor for around $700, just an estimate." So I walked across the parking lot to Ross and tried not to worry. He immediately called and said he first noticed a broken belt. I perked up and felt relieved. Belts are cheap parts, and based on how quickly he found this, I figured it would be quick to replace. It took a couple of hours, and I paid $615. They also replaced a valve. It's been a few months, but it still doesn't sit well that they charged close to the "worst-case" scenario estimate. Horrible experience and will not be going here again after approximately 10 years of having smog tests performed on various vehicles. Upon arrival I went into the mini mart section stating that I'd like to get a smog check done. The gentleman's accent was so strong that I could barely make out what he was saying. I finally made out that he wanted me to go next door. Oh, I mentioned that I had a coupon. This is what became a problem later. I went to the garage area where they perform smog checks, told them what I was there for; person, apparently the manager, asks me to get mileage from the vehicle. I did so, signed a paper then waited outside. Got a text, which was nice, saying my vehicle test was completed and I could pick up the vehicle. I went into the mini mart section and a technician, darker skinned wearing glasses, dropped off my paperwork. I saw the price and was surprised. It was approximately 80 dollars for the smog and certificate. I said again that I have a coupon. Now a woman is working behind the counter and says she has nothing to do with that. Well that's news to me as that has been the process, my experience, until now. The technician jumps in to the conversation and says that I needed to tell them prior to performing​ the diagnostic that I have a coupon then states "See that on the bottom of the coupon? It says you have to show it to us PRIOR to the testing." I said this is a new process for me, I've been coming here for so many years etc. He points to the coupon again and says to me You need to pay more attention and read. You can read right?" Oh boy. I was startled by the rudeness and lack of respect. As the technician is leaving the mini mart section he said that he'll take care of it. I waited inside the mini mart section for almost 10 minutes before the lady behind the counter said that Imight want to go over to the smog section/garage because I don't think the guy is coming back as it doesn't take that long to do a price adjustment. I walked over there, spoke with the person that helped me initially, explained my situation and past experiences then the rude guy comes over and starts talking about me needing to read and said some other condescending things. I was upset and told him he was being very rude. Then he told me I was rude. I said you need to back up and your being an f-ing a-hole. The other person didn't do much to alleviate the situation. The guy then tells me that I'm an a-hole. I said go f yourself. I know, unprofessional on my part but I was shocked and pretty worked up at this time. He then asked me if I wanted to help him f himself. Then his co-worker, supposedly the manager, steps in and tells the rude technician to go away. He went away but came back a minute later then was being sarcastic and made a racist remark to try and further get under my skin saying that I'm pretty courteous for a white guy and made some reference to the Back to the Future movie and the flux capacitor implying that I'm the scientist. Didn't quite get it. Oh I forgot to mention that the guy got very close to my face earlier and I said are you wanting to fight? Well the so-called manager said "Look. Here's what I'm going to do because of what just happened. I'm going to adjust the price to what's on the coupon." So nice of him to do. I asked who the manager is. He said he is. I said I'd like to file a complaint. I can't believe that you have a worker that is so disrespectful. I said I've been coming here for years and I will never come here again. I got no response. Are the two workers related? Why would I or anyone I know support a business like this? It was a terrible experience. To people that took the time to read this do what you will. I would not frequent any business that treated people with such disrespect. Stopped by again today with another car. Now they have smogged a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500, 2016 Mercedes C63s and a Mercedes GLE 63s this year for me. I took my 2005 Jeep Liberty for a smog check on a Monday morning at around 8:45 am. After pulling up to an open bay, I was immediately greeted by a staff member and they took the necessary paperwork from me. Astar smog is the place you should go to get your car service. They do a great job with air conditioning; they do a great job with brakes oil changes and all kinds of basic services. I found out about them because a dealership that I purchased a car from does 60 cars a month with them.. They provide the best prices that are honest and they're straightforward. Please do not get mad at them if you tell your truth about your car because sometimes the true hurts. Their service department is a department that's not trying to upsell you on everything that's NOT wrong with your car. They're only gonna fix what's necessary and that's what you're looking for, an honest assessment to things that are wrong. In other words if it's not broke don't fix it. And they do that very well. Their prices are fair and if the job is difficult they'll let you know ahead of time as to why they may need more time to get something done. As a consumer, you need to be aware that doing mechanical repairs on a vehicle it's like digging through a Box of chocolates: you just never know what you're going to get. Which is why you're looking for somebody who's confident to make quick diagnostic of the problem and fix it.. A star of smog does that very very well they will. That's what you're looking for: honesty and getting the job fixed quickly. Incredible experience! My 3rd time coming here so this review is long overdue. From the moment I drive up, I was happy to do business with this location for my smog check. I was immediately greeted and directed where to park. Then, I was told they will start immediately on my smog check and what timeframe to expect. The gentlemen quickly began to do there thing while I spent my time conducting a walkthrough/visual inspection of my truck and 24' cargo trailer. I found 2 nails in a single tire! After what what seemed to be no time at all, I was cheerfully told I was all set and that I could pay inside. The tall woman inside was AMAZING! Her attitude was super friendly and accommodating. My 90 year old grandfather bought a truck 2 years ago. When he went to get it smogged during purchase, this shop told him he needed new cats, the seller of the truck paid for them. Recently he took the truck back to this same shop to have it smogged and the shop now stated the cats that were put on by them just two years prior were the wrong ones. My grandfather argued with this shop that they should cover it. They said they are under new ownership and have no clue what the prior owner of the shop did and wouldn't cover it. They eventually stopped returning his calls. This is when I took time off work to help my grandfather. I had to make an appointment with the smog referee which was a total pain and took a long time. Then I had to drive to Sacramento for the referee appointment. The referee confirmed the cats on the truck were actually FINE and smogged the truck. I went back to this shop for my grandfather to get a refund and just acted like it was my truck instead of mentioning the whole back story. With me as the customer instead of a 90 year old, Mike looked at the paperwork from the referee and said obviously the cats are fine for this truck, he stated he doesn't know how "his guy," missed it. He even said I should have spoke with him instead and he would have caught it. My grandfather called and argued with him several times on the phone prior that if the cats are wrong he should cover it but when it was a 90 year old man he told him to go through all the hassle of trying to setup an appointment with the referee online. Maybe its an honest mistake or maybe this shop tries to take advantage of the elderly and who knows who else. read more

I went in for my smog, they told me it would be an hour and a half wait. I was fine with that as I had some work I could do. They took down my number and I headed to Starbucks next door to finish up my workday. When I got back it was done. When I went to show my coupon, she said I should have showed it to the technician and not her and she can't use it. In what word do you show a coupon to a technician and not the person wringing you up? So instead of it being $42(ish), they charged me $94! Absolutely terrible. The last time I got my smog here they pulled something similar and said they could not accept the coupon as my car didn't qualify. Now that they refused to take my coupon for a second time, it has become obvious these people are running a bait and switch operation here to get people to think they'll only pay the coupon price but actually end up charging you double in the end. read more

Had been shopping for best price and in doing so, the majority of the shops I called didn't answer or phones no longer in service. Got a price of $70 before I called Astar. He quoted me $50 for everything. Got there about 20 minutes after I called and they had me in and out of there in like 15-20 minutes. Have a little waiting area inside that was nice and cool. Fast service was the only plus today. Issues were as follows. You will not get the "coupon" price unless you ask for it. Even though, here on Yelp, it's says it's their every day price. I was quoted 60 for everything, cert included. My car failed due to a recent repair and there not being enough information in the cars system. Basically I'll need to drive it around for a bit and bring it back. They don't offer a free recheck if you use the "coupon" price. Which they don't tell you up front. In fact, my total for having it checked twice would be end up costing me an extra 10-12 dollars over the original price I was quoted. Just a little buyer beware. BAIT AND SWITCH!!!! READ your paperwork before you sign to let them do the job. I went there for smog. They are a star certified station, and it was required for me to go to star certified testers. I walked up to the guy and asked him how much it would be he asked me for the air of my vehicle which was a 2008, he then quoted me $74.50; once I got inside, he brought me some paperwork and all the sudden it's at $83. Normally when it comes to smog stuff everybody should know there is a certificate fee which was always involved, and nine times out of 10 whenever I speak to any smog techs anywhere they would include that fee in with the total price. I just didn't appreciate the fact he didn't do that, aside from that $70 is a bit high to get smog stuff done. I understand since Covid prices of everything has went up and not come back down however there is still a local shop who will do smog and cert for $60.00 I'm not going to mention the name but there are only so many smog shops in Lodi and if I name drop the owner will surely claim I work for a specific competitor. read more

I took my car for smog (which everyone does for years) and they were looking in areas not even in books for smog or required. I didn't wanted to do any repairs or full maintenance estimate. But they look for anything to fail you. It was so bad experience. I wouldn't recommend using this location now. I have used it for past 10 years but it was my last time yesterday. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. I recently had to get my car smogged and I turned to Groupon to find the best deal in the area for a quality experience. When I arrived at this location the tester repeatedly tried to get me to "contact Groupon to cancel the coupon because he would get me a much better price" (like, $9 less or something like that.) I have never heard of Groupon doing that and I didn't want to lose my money so I decided to stick with the coupon, knowing better for next time. Well, there won't be a next time. After failing my car, he told me the one or two things that were wrong and then gave me an outrageously high estimate to conveniently fix them in the mechanics bay where my car was parked. He assured me several times that a retest was free. I declined for him to fix it, taking them to my personal mechanic. He fixed everything that was "wrong" and I took it back to the tester to have it freely retested. After the haul to get down there, as soon as I pulled up, he came to my window and told that retesting was only free if you get the repairs with him! That is NOT what he had told me the day before. He also told me that the mechanic I have been with for years didn't know what he was doing and didn't fix the problems with my car. I had already spent so much gas getting to and from there that after arguing with him for 10 minutes, I decided to pay to have it retested. They also charged me $40 to replace my oil dipstick which they basically said would fail my car if I didn't. This store is not honest. They constantly try to upsell you. Mysteriously, the repairs my mechanic did were perfectly fine to pass the smog test once they squeezed as much money out of me as they could. Again, save yourself the hassle!! read more

Just the facts here. I am not a mechanic. My wife took her Sonata to the Tokay Shell to have the A/C fixed. 5 different trips to the shop and close to $700 later, the A/C still didn't work. So I took the car in to International Car Care. A day later Keith had diagnosed the problem and found a solution. Thanks to both shops for the effort, but clearly one shop came out ahead here.
