Stopped here after landing at Cleveland airport. Wanted something quick to eat so looked up yelp for deli places. This establishment came up so I decided to try it out. Upon arriving at this place, it does give off a gas station look. Walking inside the rectangular building, you can't help but feel a deli look to it. Drink frigs on both sides and a small counter in the rear. I asked for a recommendation and immediately the lady asked if I was a first time customer. I said first time and then proceeded to make me a sampler platter of their famous subs which in this case is made in a pita. First was a turkey, pastrami and then their famous Rueben. All three samples were out of this world. I opted for the pastrami and cheese in a pita shell. It was delish. The amount and taste was perfect. I also got the seafood pasta. Stopped here for lunch today. The wait was a very long line. Even the call in pickup line was long but it was during lunch. Sandwiches were made fresh in the back by mother & son. I got their famous Rueben wrap. I asked for light sauce/ dressing. My microwaved wrap was dripping with soggy sauce, unevenly spread throughout the wrap. It was loaded with more sauerkraut than meat. The corned beef was good, but not great! I was never offered a sample even though it was my first time here. Most people take their order to go, we ate inside at the small high tables. With all the hype, I was expecting more. Not sure if I'll give them another try. Jack's Deli in Cleveland has a better corned beef sandwich in my opinion. read more

I live in the center of Cleveland and I come out to Parma for the armory/range! After a long practice, my husband and I found this little gem. We were immediately greeted with a big smile. I told them we had never been here before and was given a little taste tour of their popular items. Everything was delicious from the turkey to the pastrami. I ended up with the Ruben wrap, coleslaw, and hot mixed peppers. This was hands down the best wrap I've ever had! If it's your first time there be sure to let them know and they'll provide you with a little sampler plate to help you decide what to order. We stopped at Express Deli before going to the Hopkins airport. The idea was that a decent deli sandwich would be better than airport food. TALK ABOUT UNDERESTIMATION!! It's possible to read lots of reviews about Express Deli, but it has to be experienced to be understood. So I'll only talk about the most outlandishly delightful points: 1. First time visitors are treated to a tasting of corned beef, seasoned turkey, pastrami, and a mini-Reuben before your order is taken. Mike, the MBA counter man, wants to make certain you're going to like what you order. 2. They make their own corned beef and sauerkraut. The 'kraut they make has a delightful, slight sweetness. 3. The sandwiches and wraps we ordered (Reubens) were piled high with corned beef and were fabulous. (Old Chicagoans might be reminded of Braverman's.) 4. Had a brief talk with Mike's dad as we left and what a nice man he is. Often when you leave a restaurant you receive a cursory goodbye in the form of, "Thankyouhaveaniceday", with all the sincerity of a undertaker looking for business. When I left I actually felt like I was leaving a friend's place...and I think it was because I was. So do yourself a favor, just go and enjoy. I live about 800 miles away but you can be sure my next visit to Cleveland will include a stop at Express Deli. (Psst! A little secret. I think that Mike is realizing that he could open up a number of Express Delis around town. I'm confident that he could duplicate his excellent food. If I could give 7 stars I would. I was a first timer, and I was greeted with a 3 course tasting menu of the turkey, pastrami, and corned beef. I actually wasn't really hungry but chose the pastrami. I ate the whole thing, the owner was such a nice person, we chatted some. once I was done, I realized the garlic mayo may not vibe with the customer I was about to meet. Wow! The Reuben here is so delicious. I don't even like Reubens, but my husband got it and it looked so tempting and tasted even better. Nice wonderful tender meat that's not too salty. Not only the best deli I've had in Cleveland but definitely a top 3 ever. I LOVE delis and this place knows what it's doing. We walked in and the persons were friendly, place is VERY clean and the deli is at the back. We said it was our first time there and were given a sampler of their signature combinations (corned beef, turkey, pastrami, Reuben). We loved them all! A great combination on meats with different in house sauces. It's fresh, simple and makes your mouth water. We ordered the Reuben in a wrap (their signature) and turkey wrap and I didn't miss the bread! I have had a chance to stop in twice, and both times it has exceeded my expectations. The sampler platter on my first visit was extremely generous and did an excellent job of showcasing some particularly well-made sandwich options. I returned to try a wrap later and while I was a bit skeptical about the proportions when I saw it being made, I was wrong to doubt. Everything was balanced very well in the wrap. But the most impressive aspect of Express Deli is the customer service. I thought the reviews were likely an exaggeration when I read them, but they are not. The staff is truly exceptionally warm and accommodating. They really went the extra mile for me to prepare my sandwich in a way that would hold up best when I told them I would be cycling for an hour before I would get to eat it. I was skeptical: no place gets this many good reviews and if they do they are always fake reviews, right? Wrong. Express Deli is not fancy, but it's nice. The place was clean and basic, no fancy beer signs or industrial art hanging from the ceiling. I guess it used to be a convenience store. I was met by friendly staff, maybe the older gentleman was the Dad who owned the place? The meat counter is small, but the menu was decent sized and I had heard really good things so I wanted to give it a try. I went at noon on a Thursday. (BTW I'm a craft beer drinker and they have a good selection in the cooler just in case you're hitting the place up on the way home) I purposely did not tell them I had never been there before. The guy behind the counter is busy making orders and is talking to me, he asks what I would like, I say 'what do you recommend?'. He says, 'is this your first time?' I say 'yeah'. I get 'oh we have to get you a sample first, you can't decide if you don't know what it tastes like'. So he proceeds to make me a little platter of meats and mini sandwiches, takes time to describe them to me, how they make them, what types of sauce and how they make that too. I'm impressed at this point. So I opt for the Reuben wrap, which was one of the mini samples. It was quite large, and very tasty. The sandwich and a bag of chips and a large soda was only $10. That's crazy. I'd say I am mostly impressed with the customer service, like that alone gets 6 stars... and the amount of pride and care they take in their product. I think the place is a legit sandwich shop, the corned beef easily rivals Slyman's, and the sandwich and samples I had were done well. Not dry corned beef shaving crumbs, but real sliced moist corned beef. So I've been proven wrong, maybe there are places that have 90% 5-stars. I recommend stopping by. Express Deli gets my Best of 2018 Award for restaurants. And it's only February 5th of 2018! What lured me initially was the unanimous 91 5-Star rating. Unbelievable right? Not. Come here and find out for yourself. As for my experience, it felt like I came home to family upon entering. There's no better feeling for a lone business traveler. I was asked what I'd like and truthfully answered "everything" because it looked and smelled so good. I was asked if it was my first visit and was then honored with a "taster sampler" that they offer all their newcomers. Prior to tasting, an explanation of the development of the taster entices each new flavor. Downright amazing how this family-owned Lebanese business has perfected deli staples like Reubens and other sandwiches, sides and condiments. Mike was a fantastic ambassador of his family and their passion. I thank them again for their hospitality, graciousness and time. If you let them know that it's your first time they will whip up a small tasting platter for you. From the platter I decided to get a Reuben mostly due to the delicious sauerkraut. Wow. Walked in for the first time, after I tentatively asked for a tune sandwich the gentleman asked me if I had been there before, I told him no so he said he would give me a "tour". He took a slice of bread and cut it into 4 and made different miniature sandwiches. They were all good, and he described them all well. I ended up going with the chicken gyro because a patron had told me it was his favorite. They put a home made honey mustard sauce on it which is great. Don't let the appearance of a little shop at the end of a strip of buildings fool you. This place is great. I used to go to Goodman's/Cleveland corned beef company for 40 years. Needed to try a new option as the last few meals were not up to par. Asked my phone for the best corned beef in the west side area. Siri said go to Express Deli. The family is top notch. They actually gave me a sample plate to try since I was a first timer. I was skeptical about their warming my sandwich in front of me not using a grill, but I am a realist. It was either going to be good or not. It was fantastic. They only serve thinly sliced lean corned beef, but very tasty. I have been back two more times and I live two hours away.
