Felt like family coming here. What a wonderful experience. I came based on the stars 5 stars is what this place is. You walk in- pretty unsuspecting nothing over the top but the food and service. I've never had someone let me sample the cured meats so that I can best decide what wrap I wanted. I went with the corned beef - which melted in your mouth. This was a phenomenal first time experience. I read about it online and wanted to give it a try.. better than the reviews said. The owner and his wife were delightful. Absolutely delightful. Went at 1:00 PM Friday afternoon no long wait (not sure how). The owners wife made us a sampler tray with a turkey sandwich, Ruben, and pastrami on it. Insisted we had all the signature tastes. I got the chicken salad on white and girlfriend got the Italian on the hoagie. The chicken salad was great it really was.. but the Italian BLEW me away. Why 4 stars? Because this was a solid way to start my weekend trip. --- --- --- I was flying into CLE and was on the hunt to find a good place for lunch. My search didn't take me long, as I quickly found Express Deli: 5 minutes from the airport with an absurdly good rating. I don't always love ruben's, mostly because I'm not the biggest corn beef fan, but when they are done well, I am down. And I figured a place with a 4.9 rating would probably hit the spot. I think it did! I assume the mustached man who was a mirror image of the mascot was the owner, and he couldn't have been friendlier. There were only a couple of tables in here, so we sat down to ate, while a steady crowd of pick-up orders flowed through on a Friday at lunch time. My friend absolutely *insisted* I mention that they do not have parking spot lines painted in their lot. I am not one to turn down a dare, but I also acknowledge that these are the most inconsequential words I've ever typed in over 3,500 reviews. If you were to rank my priorities when evaluating a sandwich, the parking spot lines wouldn't crack the top 500. But my job is done here. read more

This is my all-time favorite Reuben sandwich! I usually split one with my husband but I'm going to stop doing that and get my own from now on. It's really got all the perfect flavors for a delightful Reuben! The hoagie bun is soft and has great flavor. The corned beef is really good quality and sliced thin. Sauerkraut is tangy but not as sour as the kind you buy at the grocery store. The 1000 island dressing is perfect. There's a couple high top tables to seat a couple parties. Parking right out front. Behind this masterpiece sandwich are two of the nicest friendliest people. Mike and his dad. You just want to support these guys! They deserve all the stars! 9 years later, just as good as ever. The wife saw a story in Cleveland.com about this place being voted one of the top 100 delis in the US (actually ranked #14). Came in for the Beirut chicken wrap, a turkey and pepperoni wrap, and a falafel wrap. Everything was top notch. Same friendly people I saw when I first came in. Only difference in there was a line and they updated their POS system. I had to wait behind a few others, but things moved quickly and my sandwiches were up surprisingly fast. First timer. Was good not great but I will go back to try a few more sandwiches/combinations to see if I can get a great sandwich. Lady that made my sandwich was nice and helpful with my questions. I had turkey on white bread. I really wish I had requested rye but that's on me. Sandwich was ok. I liked the dressing it came with. Also had the pasta. Good tasing and I liked the corn and red beans with it. My only complaint is the prices. Our society is just ridiculous with these prices for what we're actually getting. A few slices of deli meat with cheese and a few condiments for $10 or more and maybe a half cup of pasta for $4. I'm just getting tired of the exorbitant prices. Would be nice if these sandwiches came with fries or a side or something. But that's me. I don't make a ton of money and like to eat out sometimes like anyone but when I sit back and do the math sometimes it's like wow was that really worth it? I had a craving for corned beef, so when I saw there was a nearby deli when we stopped for gas on the highway, we headed there instead of to our usual fast food. What we found was an excellent local place, with tender, delicious corn beef, the "famous" owner behind the front counter (his picture is all over their signs and merchandise), and a friendly atmosphere to stop and have a quick lunch. We loved it! I got the jumbo size corn beef sandwich, ate half there, and took the other half with me to our hotel to eat later that night. Perfect! My husband had the Ruben wrap, which was very large, but he loved it and ate the whole thing there. We also each had a bottle of grape pop from their cooler. That's always such a fun treat, like we were kids again! Next time we're traveling that way, we will definitely make it a priority to stop there! read more

I happened to be in the area and hungry. I went to Yelp to see what was around, and Express Deli popped up with excellent reviews. I'm a sucker for sandwiches, but corned beef/Reuben's are not my jam. However, I looked up the menu and saw several other options, so I tried them. I was a bit hesitant upon seeing the outside presence; not scary, dingy, or sketchy-looking, just very basic and the simple name to match. - Express Deli Family - I mean no offense but, truly, this could be very off putting to more people than not. Upon entering, I wasn't quite sure what to think. When I walked to the back, past the many coolers of bottled drink options, to where the food is prepped and served, I just happened to be the only person in the store. I struck up a conversation with the gentlemen handling the food service and explained it was my first time there and that I do not like Reuben's. I quickly learned this gentleman had quite the educational background and decided to change paths and keep his family business running. I was standing in his father's business. He and his mother had been up from the early morning hours, preparing all the fresh meats for the day. He explained to me how they prepare their Reuben's differently and asked if I'd like to try their variation to the traditional Rueben. "Their" variation due to the fact that they are not Irish!! Of course, I complied. Next thing I knew, I was served mini versions of six different menu options. Three different types of "Reuben's," including a turkey version, and samples of a couple other sandwiches I mentioned being interested in. All I could say, including my response to their corned beef "version," was, 'Wow!' At 44 years of age, I ordered my first Reuben ever! Along with a bunch of other options. If you're a chicken salad person, like me, and typically find all restaurants to serve a sub-par, bland, creation - this is your place! Upon receiving my order, I went to checkout at a register I had walked by at the front of the store. This is where the father ran things. We struck up a chat for about 15-20 minutes and, while I left fearful of their future due to statistics of awesome, small, family run places like this, I was also happy to have had such a great experience - something sadly uncommon in our present day and age. read more

Very nice people, all food seemed fresh. corned beef was great. Cole slaw not the traditional type, sort of an Italian dressing. Mac salad very few celery mostly pepper and red pepper. *COVID19 Edition * Wow. Just wow. We were passing through Cleveland and were looking for something yummy and easy to eat. All the reviews pointed us here, and it was for a good reason. It isn't much to look at from the outside. It's nestled in a little plaza just off the road. The interior is a little lackluster too. Minimal decorations. Some shelves for chips. Coolers for drinks. Head to the back, and that's where they make the magic happen. It seemed like a mother and son duo working, and when we said we'd never been there before, the son in particular was incredibly helpful. He put together a tray of samples for us and walked us through what each bite was. Ultimately we ended up getting their famous Reuben. It was absolutely fantastic. And because they weren't already great, their COVDI19 precautions were on point. Everyone was appropriately masked and there were plenty of signs telling people that they were required to mask up. It felt safe. We will 100% stop by here whenever we're in the area. If you skip this place the next time you're in Cleveland, you're doing yourself a disservice. read more

What a delightful surprise. Express Deli is an unassuming storefront at the end of a plaza but don't let that fool you. Such friendly, personable staff and delicious food. While I was waiting for my Reuben wrap to be prepared, several people came in to pick up to-go orders. They have a huge cooler of selections of soft drinks, iced teas, flavored water, hard seltzers and beer. Also a nice selections of crunchy snacks (chips, pretzels) to go with your sandwich.
