If you're like me, you are probably looking for a good haircut that is inexpensive. You can get a good haircut here, but I was very disappointed when I left expo with a $75 bill for a haircut. I didn't want anything complicated--just trim off my dead ends and adjust my layers--but left with a bill suggesting I went to a high end salon. He said he had to charge me more because my hair is long (mid-back). I personally found that to be dishonest because I have never had a stylist charge me extra unless I'm getting a full weave. I had a haircut by Mickey and he did do a good job. If you're willing to pay for it--it's not a bad cut. I wanted 2-3 inches off and he gave it some volume and layers (although it feels and looks like I lost volume as compared to my last cut). He made sure the sides were even. He took his time cutting my hair (kind of slow) and ended up cutting off more than I wanted (5 inches) so now I have medium length hair. I know my hair will grow out so it's not a big deal. He cut it when it was wet, dry, and touched up as he was styling (which all my previous stylists did). My hair falls nicely and I really do feel like I was given a good cut (not amazing) and I feel like I'll be satisfied as my hair grows out over the next few months. Pricing: I was charged $65 (plus tip) because my hair is long (mid-back). Tipping is kind of required for hair salons, but it was on the square program (iphone) and your only options were 15, 20 or 25% (I couldn't just add $5). So I paid $75--which is very expensive for me (a college student). Given the setting (older shop, strip mall location, single main room, no waiting area, combined nail/hair fumes) I expected a lower price. Paying that much is more typical at a really nice salons. I would have told him I wasn't pleased with the price, but I thought I'd just misread that he was inexpensive on yelp. I just looked through the reviews and someone said $30 for female cut (2011) and a someone said $15-20 for male cut (2011). I ended up calling and asking because I was upset and they said he charges $45 for a normal haircut. If your hair is long--expect to pay $20 extra. read more

I'm updating my review because after the inital eyebrow wax, I started seeing Lily for my mani/pedi and eyebrow wax. It's been about 3 years since I started coming once a month, and the service is always excellent. They recently upgraded the salon and it's gorgeous! Dark woods, green plants, and TV screens strategically placed throughout the salon... fantastic! They salon is also very clean... they clean the pedicure bowl after each client, you get a box to keep your emery boards for the next time, and they wear gloves. read more

This spot may be good for hair...but I would not recommend it for nails. The people at Expo salon are sweet and scheduled me in day-of. HOWEVER, the technical skill for nails is lackluster. If you have any calluses or want any closer attention paid, you're better off going to a dedicated nail salon. In the pedicure, I didn't notice any callous softener used..just a quick salt scrub. I could've given myself the same quality pedicure with supplies from Walgreens. I also asked for a gel polish for fingers, but I can still see translucent splotches without a proper coat of polish. She may have been in a rush given I went on a Saturday, but gel needed another coat to be truly complete.. read more

I came here for an eyebrow wax and a pedicure (without an appointment) around 11:00 AM on a Thursday morning and was told they were completely booked for the rest of the day. The owner, Lily, kindly handed me a flyer for a 20% discount as she apologized and asked me to return on Friday. I figured this salon was worth a try since it was popular enough to be fully booked on a Thursday, so I scheduled an appointment for Friday afternoon. When I arrived for my appointment, Lily guided me to the private room for my eyebrow wax. She was very careful/precise and had a gentle touch so the hair removal was virtually painless and very quick. I was impressed by the clean, professional job. For only $8, I wouldn't recommend any other place to my girl friends! From there, I was led to the massage chair for my deluxe pedicure. The salon had a well-stocked selection of polish colors (most of them being OPI) but I opted for french tips instead. She did a wonderful and very thorough job trimming my nails/cuticles, removing the calluses from my feet, and massaging my legs. Overall, I was pleased with both services. The only criticism I have concerns the lack of feedback prompted. It's not that I wasn't satisfied with the result, I just always appreciate when the beautician asks me if there's a general shape or style I prefer for my brows, my preference for the thickness of the french mani/pedi, and the shape of my nails. I chose this place because of the Yelp reviews saying this place was inexpensive. My stylist was extremely rough when combing and cutting my hair. I also asked for straight bangs, but got very choppy, thin layered bangs. Also, I asked for a trim and she showed me how much she was going to cut off (about 2 inches.) When she was finished, she had ended up cutting about 5 inches. I will say that although the cut was pretty much nothing at all what I asked for, it was still well done so I wouldn't have been too upset, but when I paid I was charged $50, which was not at all what I was expecting! Honestly, if I had known it would be that much, I would have preferred to pay a little bit more to go to a much nicer salon. I feel that if a place like this is going to charge so much, they really need to update their decor and provide better service. read more

I had an appointment with Karen for highlights. When I arrived she was working on someone else for a half hour before she got to me. It was clear she had double booked appointments as it took over 3 hours to do a partial highlight. At one point she had me waiting with my hair in foils for so long the color/bleach was dripping off my hair. It was so bad that even though I had a cape on it dripped all over my pants and ruined them. She said twice she would pay for the pants but never did. The hair color was awful as well. Expo Salon is the place to go! I have been a customer at Expo since 10-2004. I originally went to have my my hair highlighted, cut and styled. Since then I have had Solar Nails, pedicure, manicure, and Eyebrow waxed. Vo, Lily, and Mickey are very fun to be around and are very friendly. I have brought my husband, and two very good friends there as clients. My husband and I had our hair done for our wedding at Expo and one of my referred friends had her hair for her wedding done there. They do a great job at a great price. That would have been nice to know when we called just a few minutes earlier. I would understand if this place was busy but when we walked in there were just 2 customers. Just a warning, the Yelp page says "$" cost. Definitely not! Based on the above note, I was trying to be cheap and sneak in a little haircut after work, but when I walked in this place, I knew I'd been led astray and attributed it to fate and decided to get a proper haircut like a proper adult. That was a GREAT choice! Vo took me in, half an hour to closing, without an appointment - it was very kind of her! I have pretty simple, standard straight hair, but I had experimented with my own cutting and then gotten a bad haircut or two afterward. Vo went on and on about how to "fix" it, and I really couldn't blame her. She did an absolutely lovely job and I'll be back for a FREE bang trim and to try out their Shellac manicures and maybe an eyebrow wax before my sister's wedding next month. I'll also be back in two months for the Vo-Ordered follow up to finish "fixing" my hair so she didn't have to take too much off now, since I like it long. Very nice of her!! I also love that you can text to make appointments! I will say that a younger man working there had some friends present and all were quite loud, obnoxious, and spoke of some subject matter that would probably make some people uncomfortable, and it really distorted the atmosphere, leaving them at a Four Star in my opinion. This review is only for brow waxing. I'm from out of town and was here for a wedding. I needed a place to pop in and get my brows done quickly. I, of course, went to my trusty Yelp app and found Expo Salon. Based on all of the good reviews, I decided to give them a call. They gave me an immediate appt, which was amazing, so I headed over. Lily took me right in and did an excellent job! She was really friendly chatting with me the whole time which was nice b/c it took my mind off of the waxing. My journey to find a decent brow shaping place has been a difficult one. I have been to the very expensive, featured in magazines, and charge $40+ for a ten minute session.. Just had my worst experience with a salon today at this salon. I was attracted to expo after reading such great reviews however I had a very different experience than previous yelpers. There were two workers and 3 clients in the salon. Not that busy in my opinion. I waited for a total of 10 minutes before finally walking out. I waited at the front for most of the time and then finally sat down in on one of the couches. Neither employee asked how can I help you or even made eye contact with me. After walking out, I called the salon once I got home and told her I was the girl that just walked out. She said she remembered me and thought I was with a friend there. First off that makes no sense to me because if I was I would've come over and said hello to my friend. Then she said that I needed an appointment anyways. How did she know that I didn't have an appointment? Too many assumptions made by these employees. I had a great experience for a pedicure! Good price for a relaxing pedicure with more than just the basics. The only reason I gave it a four is because of the blasting techno music... I found it hard to relax with it so loud and club thumping. Otherwise everyone is so nice and very good. I will be back for sure! I do recommend an appointment if you are really wanting to get in. Take my advice...the ratings on here def are not reflective of my experience. My french manicure looks horrible and two acrylics have broken off in 24hours. The lady who took care of me was really nice even though the quality of my acrylics looks like her first time, but the guy couldn't be bothered to look up from his phone to even answer a question. He was rude to both clients that were at Expo at the same time I was there. Mickey cut my hair for my first hair cut experience at Expo Salon. I can say by far it was the best haircut I have ever had. Mickey additionally was very kind and accommodating to my schedule restraint and said he'd see me earlier than opening at the salon. I have short hair and usually need it cut every couple weeks but with the way Mickey textured my hair it grew out for a month and half and still looks very clean and stylish when I choose to style it. read more

Vo and Lily are awesome and so sweet! :) I was looking for a place to get a pedicure when I stumbled upon reviews by fellow yelpers for Expo Salon. I was also in desperate need of a haircut so when I saw that there were many great reviews for their hair stylists I decided to give it a try. I'm not the type to get a haircut unless I've read reviews for the place. So I went in for a pedicure and haircut Saturday, they were able to do an appointment the same day I called in and it was a wonderful experience! Lily did a great job on my toes and she was great to talk to, the time just flew by. She also offered me a cold soda free or water when I sat down in the chair and it was free of charge! It's personal touches like that along with the awesome people here that make this place great. The only thing I didn't like was that she didn't cut the nails of my big toes straight across, but I'll just ask her next time to do that because I didn't specify how I wanted them cut. Not a big deal. I've just always been told by my grandma that you're supposed to cut them straight across to prevent ingrown nails, not sure if that's true but I just how I'm used to them. Vo did a great job on my my hair. I was nervous until I noticed how beautiful her hair was! Just gorgeous. After she was done my hair felt so healthy and soft, I was able to run my fingers through it for the first time in weeks. She fixed my bangs too (I'm growing them out and they'd gotten pretty unruly). I was very pleased with the whole experience and I'm sure I'll be back for trims and pedicures in the future. I stumbled onto Expo looking for a last minute mani pedi at 6 pm. The husband of Lily answered the phone and said "sure come on in Lily will do yu as her last customer." I have to say, I've never had such a peaceful relaxing and wonderful conversation experience getting my nails done before!!! I work as a chemical dependency counselor and I am working with people who are or have been in crisis/trauma in the past and current life. It's natural for me to ask questions and when Lily started telling me her story, I was so intrigued and had such a perception shift in the moment. Her childhood in Vietnam and the attempts to leave communism, ending up in a refugee camp for 3 years in Indonesia, after having been in prison camps several times as a child for getting caught trying to escape, made me realize what a bunch of babies we Americans are! Myself included! We just have no idea what it means to be suppressed in such a way and to commit to such unknown terror trying to change that fact. I'm in awe of this beautiful lady.
