Wow I cannot believe that it's been 4 years since I last wrote a review for EMG. And I'm writing this in my new city, looking for a barber that can succeed Tony, because honestly there's nothing that can replace him. The great thing about EMG is that once you find your barber, they can become everything you'd want your barber to be - in my case, Tony didn't just offer a great haircut. In our conversations, he actually put me on a path that changed my life. I am forever grateful to the staff and crew of EMG, and from my time in Phoenix they will be one of the things I DESPERATELY miss. Oh - and with regards to my previous issues with them, once I installed the Fresha app on my phone, booking became super easy. I do still think that they would benefit from asking if you want to book your next appointment in-advance (because honestly I sometimes forget to do so and then next thing I know, a month has gone by and my hair looks like a rat's nest), but I feel like once you've found your barber at EMG, stick with them, make a relationship with them, and you'll find a barber that you'll want for the rest of your life. I came in on Saturday (2/21) after getting a truly terrible haircut in Coolidge earlier in the week--uneven, choppy, and just plain off. George took one look, listened to what I wanted, and completely turned it around. He gave me the best haircut and beard trim I've had in a long time. Been going here for years to both the Gilbert and Mesa locations for my haircuts. Sean and Toby are my trusted guys at Mesa, both do a great job! Well, I had an appointment at 11:30 and I went there at 11:10. So about 20 minutes early. There was someone else who was waiting and he had an appointment at 11. He asked me that he is cutting late and it might take 11:45 for me to get a haircut. I mentioned it to him that I m not sure as I had other appointments later. Then someone else came in and he had an appointment at 11:40. This made me wonder, will he be able to cut my hair in 10 minutes or is this bad practice to make everyone wait. I believe he took the 11 am appointment at 11:20. I waited till 11:50 and told him I had to leave due to other appointments. Once in a while you may be late due to unavoidable circumstances, but deliberately making customers wait is not a good practice as everyone s time is important. read more

Been here once or twice in the past barbers have been fine and I said I wasn't going to leave a review but this last time was terrible probably the worst haircut I've ever had in my life. I'm just not going to name the person who cut me, but I'll just say he's native American and he totally fucked my hair up. It's been about two weeks but every time I keep looking at my hair in the mirror, it's all fucked up. I was letting my hair grow back in before coming here and I just asked for a simple fade, a simple blend but someway somehow the barber decides to give me a slight mohawk. So like what's the point of telling your barber how you want your haircut when the barber is going to cut your hair however they want to anyways. I didn't get charge for the haircut but still it's gonna take a year for my hair to grow back in or my other option is to cut all my hair off so my shit could be even again. Only been here once for my son. My son had an appointment with Tony, his normal barber, but SOMEHOW Tony decided not to show up that day. Hmmmm. I won't knock any stars off for that, Tony. I think it was Josh that stayed later (I think he was on his way to leave for home) to accommodate giving my son his haircut, as we were also pressed for time. I've been to this location 3 times now. To be fair, the only reason I started going was because they hired my barber that I've been going to for 8+ years and I would follow him anywhere! If he's happy and was willing to move to this shop, then I know they treat their employees well. Aside from that, I am happy with the new spot. It's very spacious so you don't feel awkward sitting while you wait. You're not too close to anyone else whether thats in the waiting area or at a station. The vibe is trendy and masculine. EMGs first location is closer to me in Gilbert but even a 30 min drive cant stop me from getting a cut by Tony if he's not at the Gilbert location. Don't be fooled and think oh it's a chain shop. Been growing my beard out for about a year now, decided it was time for a professional shape up. What an absolute mistake going to this place was. Joe the "owner" is who I got to destroy the last year of beard growth taking all my length get this though on one side one my face ! I have 2inches on one side an inch on the other. Brushing my beard out looks so ratty now I wish I never even got it shaped at all! I called after to let these crooks know, they told me to come down they would correct it. I went back down just to go show him how unbelievably off it was. He begged me not to leave a bad review, however, to save all the other men out there I'm not letting this one slide He said "oh that's my fault. I was trying to leave length I guess I just did it on one side, not knowing you are you're like my 85th person I've done in the last three days blah blah blah blah" he explained to me it's normal to have it longer on one side than the other. IM SO DISAPPOINTED!! He's a fast talker he brings up his church And all this me me me I I I shit. He's a fast talker. He acts friendly like he cares He doesn't even let you get a word in. He's laughing taking it in banging them out number 85 in three days! As he flew around me like he was on boog sug cutting away yelling at the tv watching sports more than he's looking at your hair that he's cutting. This is a joke. Strictly to save anybody else from getting this kind of dissatisfaction I'm posting this review. GO TO A PROFESSIONAL! EXECUTIVE MENS GROOMING IS NOT EVEN THE SLIGHTEST PROFESSIONAL. I like that this place is very customer service oriented. After a haircut that wasn't up To par for one of my sons, the owner personally reached out to me as did Ian, the Manager for the Ahwahtukee location. I went back and Ian left my kids hair perfect which was great because my kids had a recital for their theater classes the following day and were nervous about looking good for it. Ian also did my other kids hair and he nailed the picture my kid gave him for reference. He's very meticulous with a strong attention to detail which gave for the perfect lineup my kids wanted. I would strongly recommend asking for Ian, especially for African American hair as that's not an easy task. Also, make an appointment cause this place stays booked and with good reason. read more

I asked for a low taper fade. And I recieved a haircut that resulted my entire side of my head faded bald, no blend, and all I got when I told him that's not what I wanted was, "this is what the kids are getting these days". I had to pay 35 dollars just to go to another shop and get the fade blended in, the back of the hair cut, and to save it by getting a completely new hairstyle. I want my money back. read more

I do not recommend this place, first of all they are expensive for a barber shop. And second of all do not get the girl. I told her I wanted to keep the length of my beard and just line it up and she practically cut my whole beard off! And made it really really uneven on my cheeks and my neck. And I asked for a medium skin fade and didn't even get a skin fade, and both side are uneven and the back of my head one side is cut higher than the other. I highly do not recommend this place. I've been here twice now, the first time I had Tony and he gave a really good cut, he is also very friendly and talkative which I enjoy. I would give a 5 star review however the 2nd time I went I had someone else, and it wasn't as good of an experience. The fade wasn't really a fade, I asked for it up to the line and they didn't go up to it, they also didn't buzz the line like I asked so now my hair is just growing over the line, and then I asked for it trimmed on the top and they went REALLY short. Normally they'll ask if the length is the right amount their about to take off before they cut it, but they just started before I could say anything and now it's way shorter then I wanted it. I'll still come back, just when a different barber is there. I'm not a expert on hair, but I've had more skilled barbers in the past so it's disappointing when you get below average quality. read more

Inside the shop fits the barbershop vibe but also sets the tone for the quality of cut you receive. My fade I received is no doubt the best cut I've had in a very long time.
