I am happy I found this shop. I have guardianship over my intellectually delayed brother and he originally had dreadlocks when I first brought him here. The first person he went to was Dominique/Unique and she was great with him. She shared instructions on how to keep his hair neat and how to take care to keep them clean. My brother wasnt so good at following those instructions lol so we move ahead to get them cut off. First I went to see if there was a website for the shop but their isnt so when I called Taylor answered and pushed me to his booking tool (which was so great ) Taylor has been great with my brother and continue to do a wonderful job on his haircut as well as treat him great. I took my 3 year old son here for a haircut because I wanted him to get a real barber shop experience, and I'm sick of walking out of Great Clips with him looking all basic. I looked up The Shop on Yelp before we went there, so I kind of knew what I was in for, but let me be real clear with you: When I hit 'Play' on my stereo this morning, Alanis Morissette was playing, ok? I'm not just a white dude - I'm super white. And I've got a shaved head because I was going bald and decided to just own it. So when I tell you I walked into The Shop and my son and I were the only white dudes in there, I mean we were the ONLY white dudes in there, and The Shop has like, 12 chairs, all full, so my first thought after stepping through the door was, "Man - I hope this is cool." It was great. Let me tell you about The Shop. First off, like I said, there are 12 chairs, and Lefty's chair is right by the door, which is how it should be at a barber shop. The head guy sits closest to the front so he can take care of business, chat up the customers, and decide what's going on. And with 12 chairs, things move pretty fast. I don't know if you know a lot about 3 year olds, but they don't like sitting around waiting, and I bet we waited less than 5 minutes, so that was great. Ryu cut his hair (like the guy from Streetfighter, but think more hair cutting and less Hadouken). He didn't seem super thrilled to be cutting a little kid's hair, but he warmed up after a little while and he did a pretty good job. When you're cutting a little kid's hair, you have to focus on speed. Like he's not gonna be on America's Got Talent or anything like that - he just needs to look good and we can be done, know what I mean? Ryu took care of us, and the guy in the next chair over chatted with me a little bit and made the place feel really comfortable. The place is really clean, and everybody seemed really professional, and by the time we were leaving I didn't feel out of place at all - Lefty even offered up a fist bump on the way out. It was full of men getting their hair cut..picked out and lined up just right...a little more off the top..get those sides right AND it has theobligatory old guy that talks allot of mess while he cuts his clients hair in the corner! This was two days after my cut at the shop my first time and my last time going. These are not razor bumps the barber straight butchered me up. I do not have sensitive skin this never happened to me ever. Hands down, the BEST barbershop in the valley. Before moving back to Los Angeles, Dre was my barber for the last 3-4 years. Beyond livid. Literally described what I wanted told me ok and then proceeded to whatever he wanted. I have never in my life refused to pay for a hair cut and this one was so bad and far from what I asked I demanded this was free. The other barbers even felt so bad because the guy was in the wrong they offered me free cuts the next time. But he messed up my hair so bad I won't be able to get another cut for a month. Thanks for wasting my time I don't appreciate it. This is all probably my fault because I didn't want to pay Ryu the 40 for appointments and didn't wait for Paris like I knew I should of! Lefty's is definitely the best barber shop in Arizona (Tucson included..lol) Now keep in mind....the Phoenix area is not LA, Chicago or New York...where the best barbers in the US reside...but...Lefty's could hold its own if it were located in any of those cities... Dwayne (the owner) is a really cool dude and what I have noticed with his shop compared to others I have frequented over the years is that he only has top notch ethical barbers working in his shop and he has really good attention to detail and running a business on my own, I always appreciate frequenting well run businesses. Others have mentioned that the shop has 12 flat screen tv's showing all the latest sports channels in addition to a playstation play area, a computer station with an IMac and a kids section in front of the store. The shop is also well lit and has a really upscale feel to it. My barber Troy knows his skills well and gets my longer hair cut exactly like I want each time...this is no small feat as I had prior to Troy been trying to find a barber who could give me a particular cut with no luck for 3 years in AZ so had to resort to a short fade haircut that almost any barber could do. And I hate short fade haircuts..lol Finally, I oftentimes take my youngest daughter with me to Lefty's since I always go on the weekend and this is in addition to being a cool shop to hang out at is very family orientated. On a typical Saturday you will find everyone from little kids getting the latest cuts to young dudes like me :-) to older guys getting a touch up. read more

Damos was the first and only barber I've been to and hopefully will ever have to go to in Phoenix. He's become more than just a barber. Lefty's caters to a predominantly African American crowd. Don't let that stop you from a great barbershop. I was the only person in there that was white and In a Hawaiian shirt. The hip hop beats in the room and a large screen tv had the game on. The gentleman against the back wall named Ted ( who is also from Chicago like me) is a great barber. Attention to detail was top notch. He asked me what I was looking for on the sides and top. My haircut was fantastic. I didn't even ask but he cleaned up my ears. Shave cream and then A hot towel were applied and then a razor on my neck and sideburns area. He then asked about my eyebrows and clipped to the perfect length. They get $ 22 for a haircut which is a fine since even though I have very little hair on top I'm still priced the same. Parking is out front. This review has no reflection on the abilities and professionalism of the other barbers. In fact I found each to be very skillful, polite, happy and willing to provide a pleasant experience for their clients. Duane(owner/operator) on the other hand doesn't give a crap about providing that same type of service. On my only 2 visit to Lefty's, after making an appointment, I arrived on time, only to sit and wait 30+ minutes for Duane to arrive. On my 2nd visit, I arrived on time only to be ignored while Duane went about visiting and chatting with his fellow barbers. After waiting 15 minutes, I realized this dude is full of himself and decided it was time to move on.
