We have a rather long history with Baywood Kennels. They have been GREAT! We had a male…read moreLeonberger who was intact. They wouldn't mix large intact dogs with the general population, but, fortunately, they have multiple play/training areas, so he could go out and play. That is pretty unusual in my experience. Baywood was a great find for us in that respect. They have a resident person at all times and are open , as far as I can tell, 24/7--at least their hours are long enough to accommodate almost anybody, which is handy. They take pains to feed and, when necessary, medicate according to the owner's wishes. Baywood doesn't accept bully dogs as I remember. That has engendered some negative reviews, which I understand, but I have to agree with the kennel on this one. Their policies require that any dog left there must be up to date on all their shots, etc. This protects every animal that comes through. We have had nothing but great service from them from the beginning. They even let me use their training yard at one point. It was a great help in working with a young, dominant dog. I can't recommend them highly enough.

He will warn people that his communication is "direct," but that is inaccurate. His responses are dramatic cut-and-paste messages that often have nothing to do with your own request. My dog got what it needed from training, but lost a good amount of weight. When this was pointed out to the assistant, they reviewed their instructions- sure enough, the wrong amount of food was listed. It should have been obvious for a dog that size.

Maybe the problem lies in their definition of a "walk" and mine. I asked that the daily 30 minute activity be a walk, which they charge $25.00 for. If my dog doesn't have at least one "walk" per day, his digestive system shuts down. I walk him 3 miles per day to keep him regular, but expected at least one walk, on leash, to minimize the affects on him. I also expected a stress response but when they sent me a picture of him on day 2, I knew he was in trouble. Joe, the GM, called me after I sent an email discussing my disappointment and we had a productive conversation, and I had decided not to do this review. But then Robin, the owner called, to justify that they did nothing wrong and actually tried to blame it on my dog. That changed it for me. I'm sure if you have a dog with no special needs that they are fine, but beware if you have a dog that isn't normal. Make sure you talk to Joe so he understands what you expect from the visit and you may have a better outcome than mine.
