I have been shopping there (and consignment stores in general) for over 10 years now, and I NEVER had a problem with any of the staff there. I'm sadden by all the nasty reviews about the ladies working there. I guess you get what you deserve. Treat people with respect and honesty, and for the most part they will treat you well. I have seen nasty consignors and customers there.. asking for discounts (it's already a discount store... ), arguing about the store consignment policy and pricing, etc - so I can see why this can lead to trouble. On a personal level, I dealt with a few of their staffers, and they went over and beyond to find my unsold items after expiry date. There's a review about "the Asian girl" (as one of the reviewers calls her)... super nice, actually. She called me on my cell to let me know she found them and had them aside for me to pick up. As a consignor.. the usual policy is like everywhere else. 55-60% to the store is standard for the mid-range. You only get 50% for super high end items, usually priced over $500 or so in places like VSP, etc. Sure they have to be picky when selective their merchandise; their objective is to sell the stuff they take, not to clean up your closet of everything you bring. The stuff is ok; yes, some are overpriced and I wish they went on sale more often, but this is not staff's fault. It's also about what you see as value. If you expect a Value Village, this isn't it (thank goodness). I had times when I left with tons of scores, and times when I left empty handed. Frankly, few of us need anything for the most part so it's impulse shopping like any other clothing store... I wish the store looked a little more creative, but at the end of the day, Winners isn't any better. Again, be open minded and kind and you can have a great time scouring.. :) read more

This is an amazing place to sell gently used and much loved clothing,. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. The store is clean and well organized. I am always excited to find designer items at a fraction of the original cost in excellent condition. I would strongly recommend this store for purchasing that just perfect piece or for selling clothing that you just aren't wearing any more and that were much loved previously. read more

I have been consigning my clothes with Extoggery for over 5 years and, despite my efforts, spending most of the proceeds there too. Let's start with the good, this will be short. If you are looking to buy from them, their selection is huge - probably the largest of all consignment stores in Toronto. Also, they tend to carry a variety of labels, from high end (prada mostly, gucci, some chanel) down to banana republic, and everything in between (tory burch, club monaco, etc). Their prices for the lower-middle range labeles are pretty fair, you can easily score a nice silk club monaco shirt for $30. Their higher end items however seem very over priced, especially considering that some are from many seasons ago. The good as a consignor: Store has quite a bit of traffic, so your stuff will sell fast if they don't over price it. The bad as a buyer: Overall I find their pricing to be very erratic - some underpriced (less often) and some gross overpriced (most often). This may have something to do with personal requests from the consignor. Their designer bags are VERY over priced - a marc jacobs from about 5 years ago will go for $750 (madness, does anyone buy that?!) and more decent looking pradas around 800-900. Also some of their clothes are in shabby shape. The bad as a consignor: By far the worst is that they hold 60% of the sale price, while you as the consignor get 40%. All the other places I have consigned with have the opposite policy (you get 60, they keep 40) or at least 50/50. They also pick what they will accept from you based on other items you give them; for example, if you bring in a nice pair of Louboutins, they will gladly take your nasty 10 year old Lululemon gym clothes too. If you bring some average stuff, they will turn away many things. They "donate to charity" your stuff if you don't pick it up ON THE DAY your consigning period ends. Of course this is bs, the girls there take what they like and maybe give the rest to charity. They will take no responsibility for items you can not find when you are collecting. The ugly: The ugly is their staff. They have this overweight asian looking girl there and another overweight blonde girl who stand there and TEAR APART every person that walks in or consigns with them. I have never heard such cheap gossip as I overheard from these two. There is also this older, thin shrew of a lady that is responsible for the fitting rooms, who follows you around and expects you steal. The asian looking girl is very unpleasant, never says hello, just looks you up and down, NEVER says thank you when you are paying for something, just snaps "that's $55. bag?" Just awful. read more

I've been selling my clothes on consignment for years-Ex Toggery has really changed for the worse. I find the consignment staff absolutely inexperienced in what to actually buy and sell to the public. They are trying to compete with designer consignment/high end ladies wear-there's too much out there already. Too much emphasis on Brand Names, when most of the population would just love to go with quality and value-regardless of the name or brand. What happened to basic? What happened to colour? The store really is a grey, black and beige and maybe dark green menagerie-been there, done that, it's all over the store-jsut gives a depressing atmosphere to the store. When I go to work in the morning, I don't need an orange Gucci handbag. Just give me some nice blouses in bright colors to go with my black solid outfits. Week end, I could use some t shirts and a pair of jeans. They need to adjust to the reality of the population which is current,trendy, yes, but day to day basics and colours-more water proof wind breakers, down jackets, more down vests, etc. Wool coats-whether from Paris or Italy-they're kind of a done deal. Most perplexing: the atmosphere of the store-all dark or pale clothing and empty racks. Also don't care for your Avenue Road consignment located in the basement. Smells musty-with fluorescent lights-from the moment I walked in, I felt like I was supposed to deal the poker cards-and I just sorta couldn't wait to get into daylight. More important-they are turning away the things people need the most-coats, boots, gloves, basic tops, sweaters. Add housewares and sports exchange to add to the profit. Instead, they requested that next time I bring my Lu Lu lemon athletic wear-huh?? Ex toggery-you need to update the atmosphere, fill it with brightness and flare, forget the stupid labels-go with the needs of the community. I'm a consignment fiend so I continuously go out of my way to come to this store. The selection is huge; they have so much merchandise that it's going to take you hours to get through. They charge a fraction of the original price and while some items are overpriced in my opinion, for clothes in a "like new condition," you can find some good deals. They have a lot of Judith & Charles, JCrew, Club Monaco, Aritzia etc. I inquired about consigning items myself and I was told the store keeps 60% of the profit while consignor gets 40%. Not sure if that's ideal but if you're itching to get rid of items you don't wear or need, they do sell fast. There are still two catches to that. 1. Your money expires if you don't pick it up. 2. Your clothes are donated if you don't pick them up by their deadline. So why am I giving this place only two stars? Ultimately, it doesn't matter if someone is buying used or new clothes--this is a business like any other, and in a competitive retail business, customer service is key. My displeasure comes from a personal experience with one member of Ex-Toggery's staff. She is unprofessional, rude, dismissive and makes fun of patrons, out loud. This lady is the reason why this business keeps getting bad reviews and the store's owner should take notice. I personally complained to her, but no action has been taken to rectify the situation. read more

Extremely overpriced for dirty, piled and stinky inventory. Walk near the shoes and all you can smell are stinky feet and cigarettes (yikes). The staff have been slightly miserable and unhelpful, except for a few who are somewhat more engaging. Not the greatest selection of labels in terms of high end designer, and anything that is decent is priced oh so high. Been three times and have always waked out empty handed. I dropped a Men's Hugo Boss topcoat at this location on Feb. 9,2017 I stopped by today to check on the status and was told that it had not been put on the floor as they were unable to categorize it. They accepted the coat, created a sales agreement with me, then were unable to categorize the coat and did not contact me to advise me of this development. The clerk was unwilling to provide me with a plausible explanation as to why the coat was not put on the sales floor and took a dismissive attitude. ExToggery has no customer service, archaic systems dating back to the 70's and a exceptionally poor attitude when it comes to dealing with customers. I will now donate this coat to the Salvation Army and tell as many friends as possible to avoid this throw-back operation who seem to labour under the misconception that " they are doing you a favour " If there was a lower rating than one star.... As many reviewers below shared, incredibly rude staff. A consignor and I talked outside about how rudely we were BOTH treated. We were both still in shock. Just unreal. No wonder their other location closed down. This location needs to close too. Seriously, go closely to Winners and don't settle for used, worn, 10 seasons old clothing. read more

Relative to my experience in shopping in Toronto and elsewhere, I can recommend to check out this store if you need to consign your designer's clothing, bags or jewelry as they sell pretty fast Its difficult to walk away without buying something new as the vintage and high ends bags are found near the check -out counter and noticing the prices which are very low in comparison to retail stores.The young lady Lara has shows tremendous creativity with her innately fashion abilities and friendly manner. She and the other staff in the store have been very helpful and have shown me highly personalized attention and always with a friendly smile. read more

what a phenominal store I just discovered today. I bought some really cool things. All are genlty used items and they are soooooo reasonably priced. this is not far from Laird and Eglinton. And if you can't find anything, there's always the winners and the new marshalls around the corner. but awesome store. great service. read more
