She was communicative about options, how much exactly she's be taking off, and checked multiple times throughout the haircut to make sure it was what I wanted. She took time to thoroughly style my hair and educate me about the products she was using and why. The place is a bit pricey for a trim, but overall super worth it. Salon is incredibly clean and welcoming as long as you don't ask about the water machine. The receptionist will make some snide remark about directions being on the machine. My stylist listened to what I wanted and gave me a price breakdown. I almost fell out of the chair with the pricing...this place is expensive! Didn't really feel like not moving forward with the visit was an option. I have short hair - cut, partial highlight, and olaplex treatment and it was close to $350 with tip. Just a bit pricey - didn't even get a scalp massage. Only had warm towels on my head while laying with my head in the shampoo bowel for 30 minutes or so. DO NOT GO HERE!! See pic. I had an amazing haircut from a different salon, my hair was to my bra strap (so not short) and had these amazing long layers. Unfortunately my stylist moved out of town, so I decided to get a trim at Evolution. I called and asked them to hook me up with a stylist who was good with long hair. They set me up with a 'master stylist'. What a joke! I told her I just wanted a trim, that I loved the way the last stylist had done it. I ended up with what can basically be called a mullet! Layers in the middle of my sides, not even layers more like shelves, straight across. super choppy and looks like I went to one of those $5 haircut places (see picture). Well. It's been 5 months, and I've been to two stylists since (different salon as I'll NEVER go back to Evolution) and had to get my hair chopped to shoulder length to blend everything. It's going to take me easily a year if not more to get back to where I was before. So, this isn't the first time I've gotten a not-great cut from here, but they were always OK enough for me to come back. Not great enough for me to not try to search out better stylists. Never again! I have no idea how this place is 5 stars. Maybe 3.5 stars I could see, but from my experience that would max. I actually booked my first appointment here because of the great reviews on Yelp but I find it misleading, which is why I am putting my review here. My first appointment in the Fall was for a men's haircut with a stylist that got great reviews on Yelp. When I show up they tell me: oh, by the way, she is no longer here so stylist B is going to cut your hair. I would think they would have the courtesy to tell me in advance. I went along with it and stylist B turned out to be fantastic so I figured it was a mix up. I make an appointment about 6 weeks later looking forward to another great haircut and they tell me stylist B isn't there anymore so they changed me to stylist C, which annoyed me because I found someone I liked and once again no warning and even acknowledgement. This time is turned out she wasn't that great AND she charged more than the other one, which again is annoying. If you are going to switch me then I should be charged the fee I originally agreed to. I then opted to switch salons because this place was clearly dysfunctional. About 2 weeks ago, I got an email saying that stylist C unexpectedly left and the email talked about keeping integrity, but I'm not sure they ever had it. It said I would get a free service, which read to me as free haircut. I try to make an appointment to find out the service is some little things for women but for a guy they could give me $15 off. Well, I'll tell you what, if you ever wanted to win back my business it would have to be an amazing FREE haircut. For $15 off? What a joke... why would I subject myself to this dysfunctionality? Denae was incredible! I hate getting my hair cut. I don't like mindless chatter while sitting the chair and let's face it - finding a new stylist sucks. I was luckily enough get Denae who listened to my "normal" hair cut and put a small twist on it to make my hair look flawless. She was very easy to talk with and as dog lovers we had a lot in common. I never knew how much I truly appreciated his hair stylings until I made the mistake of going somewhere else after he was really booked, and I left horrified. Needless to say, I've now learned to book WELL in advance and not give in when I'm feeling like my split ends can't stick around just a few more weeks. So this is a great salon that has great stylists that decided to employ a very strange policy. When calling to schedule an appointment for myself and our 12yo daughter, I was informed as of January 2019 they no longer offer services for 'children. Our daughter has had several haircuts and blowouts for special occasions at Evolution. I guess I would maybe understand this policy for very young children...This family will seek services at a more inclusive salon here forward. This review is for bridal party hair and makeup done by Maggie for my sister's wedding. Pros first: - They were extremely accommodating. We decided a couple days before my sister's wedding that instead of going to separate hair and makeup appointments, we (4 women including the bride) would like to all get everything done at one place. They were able to squeeze us in which required some schedule changing. - The salon is cute and spacious, which is nice because we had so much stuff. They hung up our dresses for us in the closet and were friendly overall. - Maggie was good about doing touch-ups and changing things at the end. - The price is very reasonable. - Maggie did a fantastic job on my sister's updo. Since she's the bride, that's definitely a huge plus. Cons: - I realllllly wanted to love my hair and makeup. Let's start with hair. I asked for a half updo with braids and I got a couple of braids tied together. My sister did the exact same thing on my 7 year old nieces, which I realized later. I also wanted volume and my hair looked flat. She didn't even separate the curls out, which seems basic. I hated the way my hair looked in all of the photos and would have been happier if I just curled it myself and left it down. I di - Makeup: I included a picture of what I asked for vs. what I got. I wanted a gold shimmery smoky eye. It just wasn't up to par. The eyeliner wasn't even straight and didn't end properly. You couldn't even see the blush and my under-eye circles weren't concealed properly. It just didn't look professional, and I got that feedback from close friends and family at the wedding, too. I used my own foundation but my sister in law didn't. We're Pakistani so our skin is tan, and my sister in law's foundation didn't match her skin (it was a couple shades too dark) and made her skin look dull. After seeing our makeup, my sister decided to keep her original makeup appointment because you just can't take chances as the bride. - We were originally told they'd send us home with a lip color but then at the salon were told we have to pay extra. Maybe it was a miscommunication, but she didn't even put a lip color on us at the salon. I get not sending a lipstick home, but at least finish the look! I ended up using my own lipstick. I really, really hate to leave the cons but I wanted to post an honest review. I wanted to love this place. TLDR: She did a great bridal updo but nobody else was happy with their hair and makeup. It wasn't bad but not professional-looking either. It seems like Maggie may not be very experienced. Salon was nice and accommodating. It's a gamble. Update: in response to the reply from the salon, we were only 45 minutes late (instead of the 2 hours they mentioned) and the bride didn't get her makeup done so we should have been okay on time. I was just writing honestly about my experience. If time was the reason for doing a bad job on hair and makeup and we were told that would happen, we would have done our own hair and makeup or not everyone would have used their services. I must start by saying, I absolutely HATE being my hair cut at a salon because of past experiences. The mullet was being a little out of control so I bit the bullet and made an appointment at Evolution. My experience here far exceeded what I've come to expect in a salon. I was able to get a same-day appointment with Kelsey on a Monday when most places are closed. From making the appointment to leaving the salon, I was beyond impressed with the service, price and quality of my visit. Kelsey was so sweet and down to earth and took the time to explain the cut, how to style it and the products used. She also gave me a head/neck massage before the cut. The receptionist was very helpful as well and they truly went the extra mile by offering a drink and giving all around wonderful customer service you don't see too often. This was my first visit with Robin. I came in for a consult. My natural silver/grey is coming in and I was thinking about drastic processes to go more grey/silver. She explained that if she did what I thought I wanted, it would cost me hundreds of dollars and she didn't think I'd be happy with the result on my previously dyed hair. When it comes to hair stylists, I've been AROUND. I'm not proud to say it, but I've been a serious hair slut, people. I could never find a stylist worth sticking with for longer than a couple of cuts, or at the very most, a year. Part of the problem is, I have unreasonable expectations when it comes to my hair. The stylist has to be damned near infallible in order to please me. I started to believe that I was going to be condemned to a life of being just marginally pleased with my hair. That all changed when I found Robert Cook. I can say without hesitation that he is the best stylist I've ever been to. He is THE ONE. I've been with him for just under two years now, and haven't had even one disappointing hair cut from him. Not one. His texturizing and layering skills are magical - he does it in such a way that it doesn't look forced - it just looks like you were born with great hair. I made the mistake of cheating on him once recently (with a reasonable expectation), and it only affirmed my belief that Robert is the Hair Whisperer. To top it all off, Robert is a lot of fun and an absolute pleasure to be around - in fact, most of the time, I'm bummed out when he's finished because it always feels like we were just getting started. I reluctantly encourage anyone who is looking for a new stylist to go see Robert. And I say "reluctantly" only because quite frankly, I want him all to myself. PS. I got my hair cut here a couple of weeks ago. I'm new to the area and I based my salon choice partly on these rave reviews. I really don't understand how this place has such high ratings. In fact, in looking at a lot of these reviews more closely, I think at least some of them are fake. I called on Friday morning assuming it would be difficult to get a cut the same day. When I asked if anyone happened to have time for a cut that day, the receptionist said, "Yeah! Any time!" This was the first red flag. The second was that the place was completely empty. Completely. I was the only one in there on a Friday morning. I had a haircut with Kallie. I have a long bob style. I told her I was happy with the overall length and style of my hair, but that I was overdue for a trim. I gave her two guidelines: 1. Layers don't work on my hair. 2. I need to be able to pull it all back into a low pony tail for my job. She assured me that while she might shape the ends of my hair to give it some movement, she would not layer it. And she said would take maybe an inch off. She said that she would cut very conservatively and take more off at the end if she needed to. I made the mistake of having her curl my hair with a wand after the cut because I wanted some tips on how to use that tool. I left the salon happy with my hair. The curls were a nice deviation from my normal style. It's almost impossible to see the shape of a haircut when everything is curled. When I got home and realized exactly what she did with the cut, I was pretty upset. She cut one very unmistakeable layer into my hair. It's two inches shorter than the rest of the hair. And, as I explained to her would happen with any kind of layer, it looks f-ing terrible. My hair has natural wave, and when there's a layer involved, the top gets more wavy than the rest due to having less weight. My hair currently has a straight, heavy under-layer and this stupid top layer that is wavy and sort of flips out. It doesn't all go back into a low pony tail. Not even close. She told me if there was anything I didn't like about my hair, I could come back in and get it fixed. That's nice (and also standard). But the only thing that will fix this, I believe, is a chin-length bob. And I don't want that. I know this is a harsh rating, but if a stylist can't follow very clear, simple directions, it's simply not worth going to this place. My hair doesn't grow fast. I'll be waiting until about June to get the style asked for. Interestingly, this is the second bad experience I've had with an Aveda salon cutting a layer into my hair when I specifically asked them not to. Maybe it's a fluke. Maybe it's how they train their stylists. I don't know. I'm not taking any more chances with Aveda salons. read more

I don't really know how to adequately rate this. I have had 5 star experiences here until my last visit, which was awkward and created a situation in which I do not wish to come back, which would be a 1 star. The happy medium is 3, so that's my final rating. For the last 10 months Katie has been my stylist while in Denver. She has mad skills with her shears. She knows her way around short hair on a woman and is typically friendly and conversational. We quickly and easily established a relationship and I set out on a mission to grow out my hair - which I could not have done without her ability to choose a cut that would grow out well. Fast forward six months. I am not liking this long hair. I have resigned myself to cutting it back to how it's been for the last 15 years. Katie and I discuss it and we decide on an alternate cut that doesn't waste all the work I've put into growth. She assures me if I change my mind I can go back to my original plan of lopping it all off. This seems like a good decision, so I go for it. The cut only lasts about 3 days before I know it's not right for me. This is not Katie's fault - it's my own feelings about how i look with long hair in a climate with no humidity. I make an appointment to come in and redo my hair. When she sees me, she is clearly upset. She sets me in my chair, rushes back to the front desk, then comes back and tells me that it will be a $15 charge to fix my hair since it basically involves a full cut. I assure her I have no problem with this as I have no intention on taking away pay from her time with me. She is barely conversational and short with her words, working silently unless she has a question or comment pertaining to the task at hand. I felt unwelcomed, like I had taken the seat she wanted for a full paying customer, and that she wished I wasn't there. She then did a brow waxing and I was so ready to leave that I just told her everything was fine so I could get out of her hair, as she clearly did not like being in mine. At the front desk the staff thanked me and appreciated that I had returned to get what I wanted. This was a nice gesture, but it has been three weeks since my cut and I still think of Katie's poor attitude and coldness while I was in her chair. I'm sad because she really does have talent and I can continue to recommend her based on her skill, but she really needs to learn to leave whatever negativity she has in the back room and bone up on her customer service skills when things don't go as she planned. I can't very well go back to Evolution and choose a different stylist - I mean, how awkward would that be?!?!! At the end of the day, a loyal customer has begrudgingly decided to leave and find someone who is hopefully as skilled with shears but has better abilities at managing emotions. read more

And the next time I called to make an appointment to get my eyebrows waxed they asked me if I had my child with me, because they no longer allow kids in the salon, obviously they put a note on my account to have me NOT bring my daughter in with me because she had cried the last time. I went last Saturday to Evolution and had an appointment with Brandi. She is amazing! I had never met her before and had also decided that I wanted to cut my past-my-shoulders-very-curly hair off. Off like Halle Berry off. Brandi did a fantastic job. I really couldn't be happier and I absolutely LOVE this haircut--it is exactly what I imagined, which is pretty remarkable, since I came in with one picture and some vague "I just want it all off"-type instructions. I am getting compliments all over the place! Brandi was careful to explain what the process was going to be for taking me from 2 feet of hair to 3 inches and gave me good instructions for styling. She also did my color, and chose a lovely, rich tone that goes well with my coloring. And she is really nice, to boot. Edit: After I left the review below the manager gave me a call 5 mins later saying she was sorry about my experience and that they would redo it at no charge. Which was super nice of them. I showed up for my appointment with Sarah and she did a FANTASTIC job and made sure I was satisfied with my hair and I am thrilled with the result. She even made sure all my hair was highlighted bright blonde like I wanted it vs parts of it. Overall, I am very pleased with the customer service and would come back knowing they guarantee their services. Old post: It's been a week and half and I really tried to like my hair but I'm considering going somewhere else to get it fixed...and I shouldn't have to fix it after paying way more than I was told in the chair. First of all, I scheduled my appointment for 10:30 on a Saturday. I got a call around 8 that morning asking if I could come in an hour early because the stylist was sick and needed to go home. I was fine with that and arrived at the time they requested. Once I arrived I received a tea and a goody bag for my first visit, which was great! I was soon greeted by my stylist and I sat down and showed her pictures of the hair cut and color (highlights) that I wanted. I booked an appointment for a haircut and full highlights so I expected FULL highlights and a haircut. After I showed her the pictures, I felt my stylist was rushed and didn't even do all my head. Only the top part. Once she put the foil on half my head, she went to her other customer so she could finish the other customers highlights. After she was done she washed and treated my hair and started to blow dry it. After that she kinda cut my hair and called it good. The highlights were more of a ombré look than a full highlight look. For the price I paid for everything, I expected a full head of bright blonde highlights and a hair cut like the one I showed. She was a very very nice girl and feel bad leaving this review but I've tried liking my hair and I feel I had way better results at the Aveda Institute downtown. I should add, I had a couple people point out that it didn't even look like my hair was very blonde at the top. I wanted full highlights...not the ombré look. read more

OMG, Hallie is the best hair stylist in the whole entire world! Okay, she's my friend, just so you know but she really does do a great job on all of our friends. All looking smokin' when they leave her chair! I just had ACL surgery only 48 hours or so before I came to her. I needed my hair washed and fixed and I was still on my pain killers so standing, hair drying just did not sound fun, whatsoever! She took great care of me, got me water because I was dizzy and I was relaxed and felt pretty for the first time in two days. Thank goodness for that great wash and blow dry because I had a banquet that evening and that hair style lasted me four or five more days :) The salon is really nice, clean and inviting and all the stylists and receptionists are super nice! read more

I've been visiting Aveda salons for several years because I like their products and what they stand for. (And they have yummy tea.) Ask for Robby at Evolution. He's been doing hair for 20 years and he will give you a great scalp massage and haircut. It should be noted that I have super straight hair, like stick straight. Don't be misled, 'cause you can definitely get effed up haircuts with this kind of hair (in fact, I was seeing him to get one fixed, slightly mullet-y.) After leaving my last stylist of several years, I looked on Yelp to find someone new. I was impressed with Evolution because it had a lot of positive reviews and everyone raved about the service. I was sorely disappointed with my appointment though. I saw Brandi who is nice and very quiet. I explained what I wanted but she didn't pay too much attention while I was talking or ask me any questions to clarify. She colored my hair and did a pretty good job. It was tamer than I was hoping for but it's not messed up. The cut was really disappointing though. It was on par with a haircut in the mall. When she showed me the back, there was a longer piece that she had completely missed. Overall the haircut and color was extremely basic. The saga continues: I was called the next day after my review was posted. I was told to explain my review; I said my review was fact and in detail to the point. I stated I was excited to try the original stylist I wanted. I also repeated again mistakes happen. I was told they investigated and they do not feel comfortable with me coming back to the salon. Vicky is great! I did a partial blonde balayage and cut. I have really long, thick and curly hair and she seemed to know exactly what she was doing. The process took 3.5 hours but it seemed to go by quick! Everyone in the salon was knowledgeable and friendly, and a Starbucks is next door in case you need an extra dose while you're waiting. The last few times I have had my haircut I haven't walk out feeling that great. I have also been struggling personally with how I look and feel over the last year due to issues with my health. Having just recently moved to Denver and needing a haircut, I wasn't too excited about getting it done. Trying a new salon in my mind was just more of "let's get this over with and continue to feel like crap". At least I can get my grays covered and that was all I was expecting. But when I got to my appointment everyone was super nice when they greeted me so it was hard to be a Debbie downer based solely on the professionalism of the staff. Then I met Amanda. I had explained to her my frustrations and she listened. She explained her thoughts and ideas how she could fix them. Again, given my last few experiences and how I felt, I had little hope that the next stylist would make it work, BUT I WAS WRONG! And THANKFULLY I was because Amanda has magical powers to transform your hair and your confidence. She even taught me how to style my hair a way I have asked every stylist the last several years to do....she did it! She made impossible - possible and it seemed effortless! This was really one of the best things to have happened to me in a while that has made me feel confident again. I am now excited again and despite my health issues, feeling more confident and alive! If you are unhappy with your current stylist or just moving to the area please try this salon. Don't even think twice just get an appointment and put your hair in their hands (literally) and be ready for great things to happen! read more
