Thursday night, a friend and I were talking about my upcoming motorcycle trip - he looked at my 2005 DR650 and said "Your shock is sacked!" He suggested we pull it out and take it to Rob at Evolution. Saturday, I called to find out if they had parts and inquire about turnaround and pricing. Jane suggested I pop in any time before 4, so I hopped on the highway and headed to the shop where I was greeted by Mallory - a darling tan and white pitbull mix with a pink nose (best shop dog ever!). Rob looked over my motorcycle, made some measurements and said that the shock did not need to be pulled and recharged with nitrogen - the stock DR650 shocks tend to be very "plush" - but he did suggest that I let him modify the preload since the previous owners had it very squishy so that the shorter operator could more easily touch the ground. I could really tell the difference in the handling afterward! $40 well spent - he also let me know that my front brake should be replaced before my trip and gave me detailed instructions on how to do it myself. Excellent people and evidence that you can be a nice, friendly and informative motorcycle shop mechanic and still make money (instead of the surly, unfriendly and rude types that seem so pervasive in the field!). read more

I had a XR650L in for checking overall condition and fix the valve cover gasket. Not only it took the shop almost two months to complete the job. They also left the petcock in reserve position causing all my gas went to the crank case. Luckily I only rode for short distance and bike start dying. I been the shop quite a few times when Robert was the owner. Mind you I live near San Francisco. Well it clear that I will never going back to this shop ever again. read more

Evolution comes through again! Yesterday I found that the rear tire on my Ninja 650 was flat. The culprit was a jagged piece of metal sticking out of the tread! I did not have time to call off work and arrange for repair, but later I called Evolution and there were able to get me into the shop the next morning. Just a quick feedback: I called early AM on a Saturday morning for a quick suspension setup and got scheduled the same day. The work was done within 20 minutes of me getting there. Technician was talking me through the process so I knew what adjustments he was doing. Totally pleasant experience from start to finish. Have only had my 94' FZR 600 for a few months and brought it to this place for a simple chain & sprockets change. After they made the swap, they informed me that one of my of cylinders wasn't firing but, I was free to pick up my bike. (I had taken my bike to a different shop to get an analysis when I first got my bike & they didn't pick up on this at all) So, I asked them to diagnose & fix the underlying problems (turned out the previous owner didn't sync the carburetor & stipped the screws). These guys really know their stuff & will be probably be coming here for anything I need done in the future. Great mechanics that pay very close attention to detail. They even noticed that my kickstand was difficult to put down & lubed that as well! Overall, HIGHLY recommend this shop. read more

This place was recommended to me by a few friends as well as BARF. I initially walked in here on my own and inquired about lowering my bike. It was pretty pricey so I left and got it done elsewhere. Recently I had it lowered again (four inches total) and needed the kick stand cut and welded. It's SUPER low and rides perfect for me (except when I go over bumps), but the kick stand isn't as great as it was before. I can't park my bike in certain spots anymore cause it'll fall over. The lean is not too great, and I'm not real happy about that, so I'm going to have to buy a new adjustable kickstand. Overall, Rob, Jane, and their mechanic Sean are SUPER friendly and SUPER helpful. Gave me a lot of great tips and helped me out a lot. read more

So I took my 2008 Gixxer 600 here the other day to get the suspension set up. I had about 2k miles on the bike so it was nearly done getting broken in and ready to be set up. When I called I had to schedule an appointment for a couple days they told me that it would be a couple days before they had an opening. When I arrived I had no wait and was attended to immediately. For only 40 bucks he adjusted my front and rear damper and lowered the sag 2 inches for me. Overall, the difference of how the bike feels is night and day. Before, the damper was way too stiff, felt like it was set up for someone about 50 pounds heavier than me. It took a lot more effort to get the bike leaned over all the way than it does after the setup, also when I hit a bump on a turn, I don't worry about the rear tire hopping off the ground anymore. This is one of the best things I have done to my bike and best of all it only cost 40 bucks! read more

I'm not sure what it is, but I'm always self conscious when I bring in my car and bike to new places. I don't like being judged based on what I drive or look like. Luckily, there was no judging at Evolution Suspension. I even got some complements from the guys there for a few of the few tasteful mods I have on the bike . I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, (I read the reviews + it's close to the house) but everyone was very friendly, no upsells or pressure. I had the 12k minor done on my CBR600RR08 and the price was great and super fast! Sadly that 16k major service is going to come up too quick! But, at least his place was so great I'll return here for all of my motorcycle needs. Oh if it's your first time visiting the shop, don't blast right past it, it's easy to miss since it's not actually on the street but a little bit inside. Wow! Outstanding service. Jane, Rob went that extra mile making sure my bike gets fixed. RSV4, a recall issue with the cooling (plastic) fitting. Go figure - digressing here - Aprilia can make a great bike, love it so much, would ride it in my sleep if I could, but then it needs warranty work. Must be an Italian thing - passion in a hurry. Evolution Motorcycles towed the bike to an Aprilia authorized dealer in the San Jose area, arranged everything with them, took care of all paperwork, and then brought the bike back for me. At at no cost to me, just some towing charge. All the technicians are cool too, easy to talk to, love bikes and biking, I feel good over there. And the shop dog. Cute! Now, if I need anything bike-wise, I am covered, thank you Evolution Motorcycles. Oh, yes, almost forgot, they set up the suspension, I can tell a difference, it's better. And just stuff like answering the phone (no voice mail system out of hell or listening to mini concertos here), follow through, honesty, it's all there. Rare actually, these days. I have an old Kawasaki S3 two stroke and it really never quite ran right since I've had the bike. I took it to Evolution Motorcycle and they found a few things that weren't quite right and made the necessary adjustments. Oh my god does it run fantastic. It has never run so good. These guys are the real deal. Totally professional and know their stuff. Just got my bike lowered 1" 1/2, and the suspension adjusted for that. Their labor costs are a wee bit on the high end, but their work is great. When you're having someone work on your bike, it's a big deal, you don't want to be riding around have something come loose or something horrible like that...how much is you life worth? I sleep better knowing I paid a little extra for the quality of work these guys do. I love this shop. I've taken my 85 Ninja 600R here a few times for some major work like front suspension rebuild, carb clean/rebuild as well as some custom stuff like disabling anti-dive mechanism. If someone asks me where to take their bike, I recommend without any reservations Evolution Suspension/Motorcycles. Their labor rates and pace are extremely reasonable. And, finally, here's the icing on the cake that just shows you how honest of a shop this place is: I brought my bike in after it blew an oil seal (fortunately while parked) and dumped all of its oil out. They looked over the bike with me and determined it's probably just the shifter shaft seal and told me I could just take it home and fix it myself as it's so easy. Great shop! Superior service. Called on a Wed to see if there were any openings for a tire change (rims on the bike, bringing my own tires). The shop fit me in on the upcoming Sat, around 1100 and the gentleman had my bike ready and waiting when I got back at 1500. He also noticed there was too much tension in the chain, the rear brake needed bleeding, and the front brake lever could use a little lube. He took care of all of that without me having mentioned anything beforehand - I really appreciate a shop that puts a priority on rider/bike safety/maintenance (I had forgotten to mention those things; I was not trying to lay some sort of weird "trap" as a "test" and see if the mechanic caught those or not). I previously had taken my bike to smaller 1-man shop that is now closed. I was worried that I'd have trouble finding a new mechanic of the same high caliber. My worries were for naught. Evolution Motorcycles has earned my future business. Now I just need to schedule a suspension (front and rear racing shock) appointment. Thanks for getting me back on my ride! read more

Rob and Jane are friendly like family, honest and do a great work. Rob, is often building some sort of custom bike, so he's no stranger to custom work and mods and is great to talk to for ideas. I recently purchased a used motorcycle and got the inspection done. It was a quick inspection charged me a reasonable 50 bucks. The chain had a little slack as told by the mechanic. On telling this to rob he made sure that it gets fixed. The battery needs to be replaced, which I will be doing with them. Usually I am skeptical of repair shops as they give you the feel that you are being cheated. Here, I did not feel so... will certainly make this my regular workshop. read more

Took my bike in here to get the suspension tuned in for my weight. Extremely happy with the outcome- my bike handles 10x better and is a whole lot more forgiving on the freeway. Rob works really fast but is still very detailed with his work. I rode in before work and left with plenty of time to still make it to work on time. Great people at this shop, I call a couple times during the week to get a little info on some stuff and they always take the time to answer my questions thoroughly. If you haven't got your suspension tuned in for your weight yet or haven't got the tools or know-how, I highly recommend Evolution Suspension. I've used Evolution for suspension work. Decent work. BUT seriously don't recommend using them to work on any metric bike , like Yamaha, for engine work. Worst experience ever on a valve service. Went to dealer & they NO issues getting it done. Problem was I had to pay twice to get it done. In the process Evolution ruined a part & I had to pay $125 to replace the part before the work could get done. No luck having Evolution meet me with a compromise on messing up my bike . Job that should have cost $600 ended being $1200. You've been warned . Use them at your own risk. Ok so we're going do the path of clarification. Yes, they did clean air filter , changed oil that I didn't ask them to do ,plus other service items I didn't ask them to do . All I wanted was a valve adjustment. Next thing I know I get a call that the cam chain adjuster is stuck & Evolution is blaming the dealer who installed it. I was stuck basically . Evolution couldn't finish the job & still charged me FULL price for work that wasn't done . $650 . So I HAD to take to the dealer who inspected the work & said whoever worked on my bike last stripped the cam tensioner bolts & I would have to buy a new one to finish the valve adjustment job. I say I had to pay twice because Evolution charged $650 & the dealer charged the same price & did it correctly. I asked Evolution comp 1 hr labor for future & all I got was crickets - no response. So let's real here . They didn't do the job correctly & weren't willing to meet me part of the way with the cost of labor for future work with them. Now Evolution says they'll give 10% off after I post a bad review. Judge for yourself if this place is honest. They are good @ suspension work , just not engine work read more

Great service is all I have to say. I got a basic suspension setup then new tires. Many barfers highly recommended Evolution suspension so i decided to go there for a suspension setup. Rob checked a few things on the bike for me to make sure I had no mechanical issues. Rob even explained the process to me while he was making the adjustments. He told me how this adjusted compression, this adjusted rebound... I then decided to come back later to get new tires because of their great service.
