From systemic billing errors to abysmal customer service, my experience with this facility has been entirely negative. Despite being a returning patient, it is clear their standards have plummeted. I am now suffering from severe GERD following a gastric sleeve performed here--a complication that requires a surgical revision. I had my first bariatric surgery in 2015 and received no aftercare, subsequently did not do terribly well with it. I had a revision in November and the support and after care has been absolutely amazing! If I have a problem or question, an email to anyone on the team or a phone call to the office provides immediate help. After surgery, their policy is that you talk to the dietitian once a month, as well as seeing the surgeon on a regular basis to make sure you're still on track. I haven't been on track and the support I've received in the last week has made me feel heard and supported and I'm back on track! Thank you Dr Vanderwel and team! You people are amazing! read more

It has been one year since Dr VanderWel preformed ESG on me and I am completely satisfied. I lost 50 pounds and feel much better about my health. Lower blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, even lower resting heart rate. Prior to the ESG procedure, I tried low carb diet, Contrave, and Phentermine. After ESG, I really didn't have to diet. I simply followed the instructions given to me and lost weight. I eat when I'm hungry and I am able to know when I'm full. Not sure if it was the procedure but I seem to be better able to control my sweet tooth now. The entire process, from the low carb diet prior to the procedure to back to normal food after is written out and given to you. The support staff is there any time you need help. I live 6 hours away so I only went up for the procedure and the rest of the time I did video appointments but I never felt alone or isolated from the medical staff. I feel like the biggest reason a person would not have this done is expense. Yes it was expensive, I took out a personal loan but it was money well spent. I know I have added years to my life and you can't put a price on that. Plus I was able to deduct the expenses on my taxes this year. I highly recommend the ESG procedure and Dr VanderWel with his staff to anyone that has been struggling with their weight. No scars, great results. This is my honest opinion. I had my gastric sleeve surgery in July 2023 and started the whole process in January 2023. Everything was virtual except my actual surgery, which was so convenient. Dr. Landerholm and his team are so nice. I have dietitian appts monthly right now with Nora and had several pre-op appts with Betty, Adam, and Dr. Landerholm. A month post op I'm down 20 lbs in one month and 30 lbs. since January. I couldn't even get nervous before surgery the day of because everyone came in to talk to me and I was knocked out before I could even think about panicking. I went home that day and had some rare side effects but nothing horrible and my mom was able to text Dr. Landerholm that night just to confirm my side effects were normal. He responded right away like he said he would. Wish I got this surgery earlier than now but I feel so much better and have a lot more energy. I just had my 6mo post op and am doing wonderful, yes I have lost the weight I was hoping for but my aftercare from this place is definitely lacking. My web meeting with their nutritionist Kim & Breanne a nurse practitioner and was left disappointed after both virtual meetings. Neither one had much to say other than I was doing a good job and asked me how I felt. No going into depth about my recovery, no help with setting goals, things I should be aware of, type of diet I should eat, it was more awkward than anything because it felt like they weren't sure what to say to me..except a thumbs up that I've lost a bunch of weight. It's like they don't need to do their job because I am successful & have lost weight, no need to guide me or to continue to help me to keep the weight off. Do I regret having the surgery? Not at all, I just wish they actually cared about their patients like they did in the begining when they suck you in & get you to agree to surgery. Maybe I'm the asshole here, but I just don't get how this place continuously gets 5 stars.. read more

I went in for a consultation with Eviva at the beginning of May 2019, and was in the Operating Room by June 12th 2019. I'm about 5 months post-op, and almost 100 pounds down. This clinic is fast, the team is motivated to get you into surgery, and Dr. Landerholm is incredibly compassionate- something I didn't find in other doctors who specialized in obesity. He truly cares, and that is why I love being a patient here. The process from consultation to operating room was as smooth as possible- I have no complaints! I would give Eviva 5 stars if it weren't for the Patient Access Portal, and the fact that emails sometimes don't get answered. I believe they are fixing their patient access portal, so hopefully it will be user friendly and the data on there is accurate. Being a patient who is self-paying this entire thing, I need a system that will allow me to see everything I owe, and will owe. I would also say that it's hard talking to anybody on the phone who knows what they are talking about when it comes to insurance, billing, etc. I empathize with people in the department who have to deal with Insurance because I know it's confusing, but it's frustrating not getting answers on the other line to important questions. Overall, I really do highly suggest coming here if you need a compassionate surgeon. Dr. Landerholm is amazing, and he truly cares. Wherever you go for surgery, you will face different situations where it isn't perfect. My patient care at Eviva was amazing, and that was the #1 important thing for me when choosing a resource. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The claim: Eviva is one of only 5 places in the country to offer -- in a BARIATRIC setting -- the non-surgical, endoscopic weight loss procedure called the Endoscopic Sleeve, which is an alternative to a surgical laparoscopic (keyhole surgery) procedure, the Gastric Sleeve. Rather than cut out part of your stomach, a little camera with suturing ability goes down your throat and stitches up part of your stomach to ultimately leave less room for food, and supposedly -- to separate the ghrelin-producing, bad part of the stomach that causes you to be hungry. Insurance does not cover the Endo Sleeve; the package price is $13,950 (the package price for the Gastric sleeve is $6k more). It includes several "visits" before the procedure, the procedure itself, one week check up; 3, 6, 9, and 12 month. You can put it on different credit cards and try to finance it -- they can work with desperate people. I spent two long calls talking with a salesperson (google her, she was also a used car salesman at one point in time, ugh!) who completely misrepresented the procedure as being not only as good as the surgical version, but better! Less things can go wrong during/after surgery, and there is no "bounce-back" weight at the 2 year mark (which she attributes to the lack of surgical scarring from the non-surgical Endoscopic procedure). Everything I have read online points to the Endo being inferior to Gastric, and in some cases, not restricting at all. Still, I wanted to believe. Here is the deal: Eviva only started doing the Endo sleeve on February before getting shut down due to Covid. She said they had done 30 or so procedures (during my complimentary Telemedicine consult with the doctor, I was told that actually the figure is "about half that"). The doctor had not read my notes -- or, their arcane questionnaire intake (which does not allow for any punctuation of any kind, not even commas) did not record that I am a double cancer survivor (thyroid cancer and melanoma - wide local excision and sentinel node biopsy), so that was disappointing. The consult with the doctor: frank and generally helpful. He makes it very clear when asked, that the superior procedure is the surgical version. For me, he would recommend surgery (after two cancer surgeries and surgical births, though, no more for me). However, if surgery is too extreme, they offer Endo. You can expect to: have little results, no results, or be a runaway success. It is the same with the Gastric -- some people do great, and others do not, and you just have to play the hand you are dealt if that is the case. Gastric Sleeve people lose more. Much more. Three things rubbed me the wrong way, though. Towards the end of the telemedicine visit (and keep in mind that while a psychiatric evaluation is required for the surgical Gastric Seeve, it is not for the Endo sleeve), he asked if I had ever had a major trauma (sexual, physical, emotional). I said, no, not that I could think of. He then said that most of the people he works with can all point to a single trauma with a (father, cousin, uncle), and can pinpoint the moment they put the weight on -- their armor. I have not had a KNOWN trauma. Since a young age, I have been dealt with obesity, and fought it, and have always wondered if something happened to me to cause my fear of male attention, and the need to fill the void. It was triggering, unexpected, and I didn't like it. I feel like obesity is so, so, complex and there is not any one reason why one abuses food. And the last question was, on a spectrum of just beginning to gather information, to being ready to have the procedure yesterday, where did I fall? I said, the latter. And then --- even though the Billing Coordinator was supposed to call immediately after the Telemedicine visit, instead a call got exchanged between the DOCTOR and the Billing Coordinator before she called me (both were late for their appointments). Don't know what that was about. Didn't like it. Hope this helps! read more

UPDATE 11/8/2018 went to a "board-certified plastic surgeon" today, and the tummy tuck that was done by Dr. Harris is a wreck! Dr Harris is a general surgeon, not a plastic surgeon!!!!! Now I'm am stuck paying to fix what he screwed up! What a joke. Dr. Harris is not a plastic surgeon. He is a general Surgeon and not a board certified plastic surgeon. Find a good board certified plastic surgeon to do a good job!!!! I'm put 17k to fix his screw up's!!!! July 18 Update: Eviva's work is taking its toll. Having all the work they did re-evaluated as my body is a total wreck. It all hit the fan about 2 months after the a Gastric Bypass they did a couple of years back. My insides are a hack job and it has literally ruined any since of normalcy in my life. If you are going to look for weight loss programs, try Swedish First Hill or Overlake. Go to a group of doctors who are affiliated with a good hospital who aren't there just for the money (that is my opinion). The damage to my body and quality of life is irreversible, just hoping that I have now found a doctor who can fix it! August 17 UPDATE: eviva talked me into taking down the following review with the incentive of fixing issues caused by a procedure. I recd a call today "dismissing" me from their practice because they did not want to fix what they screwed up. I have a witness to them talking me into taking it down. They even brought in their head of marketing to discuss how much it hurts their business. Haley the woman that called me said it would be a "threat" to put it back up. I told her I have a right to free speech. Thankfully I kept a copy of it and here it is: I have been a patient for several years. Lets just suffice to say I can count the number of surgeries and procedures on 4 hands. Nothing ever seems to go right and I am to the point where I am want to find a serious second opinion. Ever since they changed names, and opened up new locations, even getting a call back for the simplest but serious items is a pain in the rear. I also noticed a rather large turnover throughout several areas of the practice, i.e. Dietary, Ma's, Nurses etc... Why? There has to be a reason. And the reason they changed their name. Its the most ridiculous name Ive heard of in a long time and erases the former brand PSSC. The commercials I see on TV, just makes me think of the thousands of dollars I have put into bills and what the money is really going towards. Quality of care or TV advertising. Just saying, shop around, esp., when going for bariatric surgery. It is a forever procedure and I would wish no one go through what I went thru. Needless to say, I wont be back! I started my process in the beginning of October. I ended up having surgery beginning of November. The staff and team were great. Everytime I called never seemed like a burden, always answered my questions/ concerns after surgery and were always able to help me schedule my appointments on my time! Life changing. 9 months in, 71lbs down, and a BMI from 37% to 20% body fat. Not easy by any means, and isn't the cure all. But if you want the tools to help you live a healthy lifestyle this is where you start. Every step of the way the staff is behind you. I'm talking about the front office, back office, associate Dr's, nutritionists, medical assistants, you name it...they are all here to help you succeed. If you follow the plan (and plan to actually change your lifestyle for more than a minute..(speaking from experience only) you can experience the same results. Don't think for a second that there couldn't be some set backs or this is the answer to all your food issues. This is surgery after all. Go into it with your eyes wide open and understand this procedure (bariatric sleeve) is just a tool to help you get to the healthy results you have been hoping for, for as long as you've been at an unhealthy weight. I can't say enough about my experience at Eviva, and the staff are as excited about your success as you will be. I had hernia surgery done with Dr Landerholm. He did a great job. He is very polite and responsive. He explained how and what needs to be done. I highly recommend him to anybody. I would give him and other doctors who participated in surgery 5 stars. But I am taking 1 star off, because I felt that patient care from a nurse needs an improvement. My nurse was a somewhat careless. Also facility needs significant improvement. I was laying on a recliner chair right next to the exit door to the street, and to another door to reception hall, so nurses would go in and out, and I would feel the wind blowing off the end of my gown feeling that you are laying outside, and you could see some people waiting and looking at you in the hall. It was a weird experience, plus it was freeezing cold I hardly felt my feet. read more

One year post-op, and I'm still amazed with the progress. I'm down 150lbs, no longer using the CPAP machine, my strength is up, knees don't hurt, and I'm a lot more active! Dr. VanderWel has been amazing through this whole process-- with regular follow-ups and his continued support, I've maintained the motivation to continue losing the weight and keep moving. Oh my god stay away from this place. The front desk staff has no idea what they are doing and I have yet to have my appointments on time. my wait time has never been shorter than 45 min. Then on top of all that I am now having issues with my procedure which could mean another surgery and in trying to get an urgent appointment with a doctor has taken me 2 hours on the phone. The hand doctor I saw couldn't be bothered to perform any actual tests to confirm his questionable diagnosis, nor was he interested in obtaining a comparative xray of the unaffected finger for comparison - I have a congenital skeletal dysplasia that affects both hands, which could well impact the diagnosis and treatment of the current issue. In fact, he seemed bored. The splints provided were utterly inadequate. Really they were useless. But I've saved the most bizarre part for last... Strangest of all, the doctor seemed to think that the Road ID shoe ID pouch I had on one of my athletic shoes contained a knife - he actually asked if I was thus armed. Bear in mind that this tiny pouch with a reflective strip, strapped to my shoelaces, is only large enough to hold a key or a bit of folded cash or paper. Who carries a knife for no reason? Why would someone do so in a doctor's office? Who would carry a dollhouse-sized knife? On a shoe? Who assumes that a woman who has shown no aggressive or otherwise unusual behavior of any sort is armed? Summary - bad doctor, weird and creepy person, offensive question. UPDATE: I called to cancel the follow-up appointment (because there's no way I'm going back there), only to find that they'd somehow "lost" it in their computer system. That's what they claimed, anyway. It crossed my mind that after reading my review they may have cancelled it themselves and just not bothered to tell me. read more

I reached out to Eviva regarding weight loss surgery via their online contact form. The patient care coordinator finally called me back the following week, with a story "she thought I was someone else, from the transcript of the call, but after listening to it realized I was not that person" and called. I returned her call letting her know I had a question, and she responded with another email, asking me multiple insurance related questions. Had she not made assumptions, I was calling to inquire about the cash price of a procedure, as I was referred to the clinic by a friend. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. So far, I've been working with Eviva for 3 months and not losing weight. I feel that I have been mismanaged and guided. I was told I'd have a nutritionist work with me and apparently, they only are down to one, so getting an appointment to see her, isn't going to happen soon. I was given phentermine and very little guidance as far as to what to consume. Phentermine made me drowsy, so was given Adderall, which isn't helping as well. I need to lose weight for high cholesterol and my health is at stake. By now, I should be down at least 20 lbs. Very disappointed. I had to beg to see the doctor this week, because he's overbooked. read more

I can't recommend this place enough! I had surgery in late July of 2020. As of this review, I'm 3 months post surgery, down 40 pounds and the entire experience from curiosity to now has been virtually flawless. I know one of my initial concerns/questions was cost so I'll include that for the Laparoscopy process (specifically the procedure I had) you're looking at around $20k out of pocket. From my discussions the Endoscopy process is around $14k (again, your values may vary but that's the approximation as of this review). The doctors, nurses and all of the staff were timely, caring and thorough in all of my interactions. I chose Eviva based on the recommendation of two of my friends. I've had such an incredible experience that I wanted to recommend this facility in Shoreline to anyone else that is considering a bariatric surgery solution. Abysmal follow up and customer care. I'm still mad about this. On a Friday afternoon three years ago I crushed my thumb flat between two 100 lb chunks of steel, broke the bones, and almost cut it completely off. The Edmonds ER put in a few "temporary" stitches and said they were sending me to Harborview for emergency surgery, but at the last minute referred me to EVIVA and told me to call and set up an emergency surgical consult. I called EVIVA THAT NIGHT and left urgent messages and received no response. I then called again on Monday and was told they could not see me for almost two weeks, but finally scheduled me for Tuesday, five days after the accident. When I got there it was obvious this was a cosmetic surgery and weight loss clinic. As a healthcare provider and person that has had several surgeries, I was expecting a better experience. In summary: Long wait times past the scheduled visit, only x-rayed after my insistence, did not replace temporary stitches. Worse though was their failure to assist and provide documentation required by my employer in a timely manner, and when I called a week later to follow up I was told by about a half dozen "couldn"t Care less" ladies at the desk that they never got the forms. They could not locate forms that I had handed them in person, after misplacing those I had faxed, emailed, or sent via their own portal page. (Dr. notes, Leave Of Absence forms, Report Of Attending forms, Return to work authorization Letter.) Because of those delays I had to pay my health insurance premiums out of my own pocket to keep my benefits active, and was not allowed to return to work on schedule, and missed an entire week of pay, because I was now on an unapproved leave of absence because they repeatedly lost the forms required by more employer by specific due dates. I went to EVIVA clinic in person, 2-3 times to see the doctor, and 11 times to round up or redeliver lost or missing paperwork. I eventually went to a hand specialist at a surgical group I like for a second opinion and they said it was too late to do anything this long after the injury. read more

Your customer service is abysmal. I've reached out TWICE now and TWICE the ball has been dropped on getting back to me. There is no excuse for this. If you can't figure out a system where you can get back to people, then maybe you shouldn't be in business. How much money do you think you're losing from whoever is responsible for replying to people, doesn't do their job??? After I posted above they FINALLY replied. It's interesting that they only reply and are attentive when someone writes a negative review. They noted that they weren't able to help because I didn't provide them with an accurate phone #. There's a reason for this, as I can't talk during the day, because I work during the day, like a lot of people. Some additional feedback for engaging with customers in the digital age. I was communicating with Sunny, via email and that person just stopped replying to set up an appt. 2. You realize people work all day, right? We don't have personal assistants or a dedicated staff to call, wait who knows how long, to get a human and set up an appt. Use modern tools like email, facebook, twitter to facilitate appts. 3. there is no way to "direct" message you. There is no "message" on facebook, no "message" on twitter and on your site all you have is a generic contact form. So, tell me more about this magical way to "direct" message someone. I suggest you start finding a person that can help you use technology to develop your business, you are tainting your brand and as more and more customers expect business to use email, text, technology to manage their lives, customers will find companies that DO use technology to set up appts. etc. Stop forcing people to use your preferred method of communication and start taking a customer centered approach by letting users set up and communicate with you through THEIR preferred channel. Don't require customers to share their phone # because some people can't use the phone or work all day. You operate in a tech minded city. read more

I had a very pleasant check in and initial visit with Andrew Parkers assistant. However, when I told the doctor about my problems/injuries, he quickly ushered them to the side and said I just need to do PT (AGAIN, AFTER 5 YEARS), I explained it is a temp fix for something and he refused to listen. Will be getting second opinion elsewhere. I do not appreciate being told what is occurring in my body, when it's my body. Get over yourself doc. read more

In addition to the charges submitted to insurance, which by the way was the twice the cost that I've ever been charged for any doctor appointment, they tried to charge $850.00 for joining a Facebook group and for someone to schedule your appointsments. 1 year ago PSSC removed a big portion of my stomach and replaced it with hope and control. I've had wild success with my VSG procedure and attribute that to my amazing surgeon (Dr. Crouthamel) and the staff. This is a fully comprehensive "wrap-around" program where they provide you with more than enough support and education to make major life changes. This is NOT a collect your money and send you off on your own kind of place. I can't thank these people enough for literally saving my life! I started my journey with Eviva Aug 27th 2018 although I wished I found them sooner!!!!! Due to scheduling I decided to have my surgery Dec 3rd 2018 so I could have enough time off work. From start to finish the ladies were amazing! Very attentive and made sure I got all my testing and my requirements done so I would have a safe surgery. I was initially scheduled with Dr Billings. Half way through the process he left the practice and I was put with Dr Harris. I couldn't be happier with how things turned out. Dr Harris answered every question and took the time to sit and listen to our concerns. I am self pay so the process for me was relatively quick. Surgery day was a quick whirlwind of checking in, getting dressed (undressed) and waiting the little bit it took to get me into the OR... There were 2 others in the building with me who also had surgery that day. the nurse who took care of me was very quiet but never complained once when I asked over 100 times to be unhooked and be able to go to the bathroom! Discharge couldn't come soon enough the next morning, I was ready to go home. My husband picked me up 5am and we drove 2.5 hrs home. Getting out that early the traffic was amazing and we got home very fast. I have since has my week follow up and Dr Harris told me he didn't need to see me at 1 month because I was doing so well.. Needless to say I am very pleased so far with how well ive been treated! read more
