This past Sunday, a family member invited us, and since we were his guests, we decided to give the restaurant another chance. Huge mistake. The first thing that shocked us was how absolutely FILTHY the place was. The air-conditioning vents were covered in an unbelievable amount of dirt and grime. When the parts of a restaurant that are directly above customers look that dirty, it makes you seriously question the cleanliness of everything you can't see. Then came the service. We were a party of seven, and our server decided not to write down a single order. We actually ASKED her if she wanted to take notes because there were seven of us. She confidently told us she didn't need to. Well, apparently she did, because -- surprise -- the orders came out wrong. We also ordered margaritas and piña coladas. After approximately 45 minutes of waiting in a practically EMPTY restaurant, what arrived was crushed ice with watery lime, coconut, and pineapple juice -- with no alcohol in the drinks at all. And we didn't come to that conclusion simply because we "couldn't taste it." My uncle is extremely sensitive and allergic to alcohol -- even a very small amount causes a reaction -- and he actually tried the drinks specifically because we were convinced there was no alcohol in them. Nothing happened. These were essentially non-alcoholic juice-and-ice drinks being served to us as cocktails. Yet, of course, we were charged for the alcoholic drinks we ordered. And somehow, the food managed to be even worse. The meat we were served was clearly previously cooked and reheated. This wasn't simply about the flavor. It was visibly dry, had that unmistakable shiny surface of reheated meat, and the texture and appearance made it obvious that this was not freshly prepared meat. It was absolutely disgusting. Throughout the meal, we repeatedly had to ask for basic things like napkins. The table itself was dirty. But my favorite part was the French onion soup. They brought us boiling hot soup with PLASTIC SPOONS. We asked for regular metal spoons, and the employee actually told us she would "see if they had any." Read that again. A sit-down restaurant was going to see if they had spoons. She never came back with them. This wasn't one small mistake or one employee having a bad day. It was an entire experience made up of poor service, incorrect orders, extremely long waits despite the restaurant being nearly empty, cocktails that contained no alcohol even though we were charged for alcoholic drinks, visibly reheated and dried-out meat, missing basic utensils, dirty tables, and a level of visible grime that was honestly disturbing. We gave this Applebee's a second chance after several years. There will absolutely not be a third.
