One blizzardy, cold, snow-pocolyptic day in Cleveland, I mounted up with 16 layers of clothing and ventured out to Tremont. I had some errands to run. In and out, back in my car and (hopefully) getting safely home was the plan. Or so I thought before I walked into Evie Lou and was immediately sucked in. By "sucked in" I mean I totally forgot about the white-out of snow happening outside and became warmed by the sight of the amazingly fashionable clothing in front of me. Then it hit me. I must buy something. Now. First, let me tell you that after a day out in the snow, pealing off 16 layers of damp and cold clothing to try on outfits isn't really my thing. To shop, I had to do this. That's how much I loved this boutique. With the wonderfully helpful styling of Mrs. Crow, I not only found the perfect dress for a ridiculously good price, but I also put on shirts that I didn't want to remove. Ever. Seriously, I wanted to live in the soft, organic, cottony, chic glory of these tops for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, I have a conscience and couldn't bring myself to buy those too without getting any of my Christmas shopping done first. The clothes are interesting-- not the same old stuff from the same old stores that you see everyone else wearing. What's more is that despite looking good and being completely flattering, the vast majority of the clothing is completely comfortable. Dude. Evie Lou is the kind of store that sells the type of clothes that I would want to stock my entire closet full of, if only I could afford it. It's like, casual but sorta trendy in a kind of army-fatigue way. Really soft oversized cotton shirts, "distressed" cropped jackets, hooded sweatshirts that only KINDA look like they're 15 years old and have been through the wash ten thousand times. But also beautiful and perfect. Sigh. Too bad I'm poor! And they have really nice accessories, cool knick-knacks, and an extremely charming and friendly shop owner. (Is her name Evie Lou? Maybe. I don't know.) She knew to mention the words "sale rack" and I darted back there like I was shot from a cannon. I found a really unique sweater in an, um, "interesting" (read: unpopular) magenta shade, and she was eager to sell it to me for an additional 20% off the already marked down price. Hell yeah, I'll take an unseasonably warm clothing item for a fraction of what it cost a month ago in the dead of winter! Did I mention that I fucking LOVE SPRING? Yep. I've been meaning to review this store for a while now. And I'm finally getting to it! At least it'll be a good review!!! I've always been a fan of Kim Crow's fashion sections in the Plain Dealer so I was ecstatic that she was opening up her own shop. I was in when she first opened, but I really went to town a few months ago when I saw a dress on Evie Lou's Facebook page that I HAD to have. I called the shop and spoke with Kim directly and while they didn't have my size, she was putting in another order to the designer and it would be in a couple weeks, could she call me when it came it and I could come in and try it on? I said of course and waited patiently for my Rawa dress. As promised a couple weeks later, I got the email in my inbox telling me that my Rawa was in and I could come and try it on at any time. I came in and spent a wonderful afternoon there! Kim was extremely helpful and kept showing me things I HAD to have. I came in the middle of their big winter sale and I found 2 other things I had to have! A fabulous sweater and this adorable little poncho thing (I know when I say poncho, it sounds weird, but it's adorable and Kim knows her stuff)! I fell in love with the oversized drapey tees and the soft sweaters that fill the space. Kim helped me with sizing, which brands run big or small, and what she thought would look good with my figure. I love that she carries lesser known brands such as Veronique Miljkovich (who made my amazing Rawa!), Nicholas K., and Herff Christensen (which made my amazing lambswool sweater I purchased!) I love independent designers because I feel they really make clothes for the average woman and not some stick figure. I spent the better part of near $500 there and I dare say, I could have definitely spent more, but I went right after Christmas and I definitely had to give my credit card a break! The prices definitely range from 1 to Anthropologie, but I think the quality and merchandise is better and the overall experience is better at Evie Lou. Plus I know that when I shop here, I'm not going to be wearing the same thing that someone DID get from Anthropologie! Kim really knows her stuff and we had a lengthy conversation about Rick Owens and his fashion genius! It was so nice to meet someone who is as big of a fashionista as I am! I will definitely be back (in fact, I need new summer wear!) and I can't wait to see what Kim has in store! :-) read more

How, oh how have I not been to Evie Lou until now? I'm taking some time off work and spent a day last week wandering around Tremont. I walked into Evie Lou (a spot I have always meant to pop into, but didn't until then) and I was immediately greeted with big, warm, welcoming smiles from the stylish gals that work there. When she found out that I had never been there, she excitedly showed me around the entire store, giving me a gist of they layout, what to do if I wanted to try something on, how often the change their stock, where the owner is from, etc. She let me try on some of the most beautiful rings and necklaces I have ever seen. And the shoes. Oh, the shoes. I have my eye on the most gorgeous cream leather sandals. The clothes are beautiful, stylish, comfortable and well made. I will be back! read more

It took me a while to stumble in to this little shop in Tremont, but I was glad I did. I had been a fan on Facebook for a while and none of the merchandise they posted really appealed to me all that much, until the owl sweater dress. THE OWL SWEATER DRESS, people. I loved it and knew I wanted to make it mine, so I headed over to Tremont after work the day after the dress appeared on Facebook. Turned out, a lot of other people had the same reaction I did and they only had one left in my size. Which someone else was having held as she tried on clothes in one of the dressing rooms. The sales staff were very accommodating and tried to help me find other stuff I'd like. I didn't really go into the store looking to browse, I was just like OWLS OWLS OWLS, but one of the ladies did point out a dress by the same label that I did indeed think was pretty cute, never mind its lack of owls. And there were an awful lot of other lovely things hanging on the racks. She started a room for me. A moment of luck hit while I was in the dressing room: the lady who was holding the owl dress that would fit me said I could try it on and if I really loved it I could take it (she was holding it as a gift for her daughter). I snatched it out of the saleslady's hands and, well, it didn't fit. OK, it fit, but it looked pretty bad. But the other one looked really good PLUS was a size smaller than the owl dress, so my vanity got some bonus points. I bought the NON-OWL dress. I'll go back for sure. For the most part, Evie Lou's stock is contemporary and unusual. Sort of like what you'd find at Anthropologie, but not manufactured bohemian, and in real people sizes at real people prices. Probably the best thing about Evie Lou is the service. I'm a fan of salespeople who can eye you and tell you what'll work, and who aren't really in the game just to sell you something for the sake of selling something, and I definitely got that feeling from the ladies at Evie Lou. read more

Today was my first visit to Evie Lou but definitely will not be my last. I LOVED everything about it...my boyfriend sat in a cool airconditioned space in a comfy chair while I shopped for probably an hour. Snapped up 5 dresses and 1 necklace...and the highest price was a non-sale dress at $98...all else was discounted significantly. I could have bought so much more...shoes, tops, blazers, accessories, pants. I am not the easiest to fit...5 feet 0 inches on a good day...probably a full size 12-14 (large chest) but the things I found were generally looser and not clingy...just as advertised...trendy, fashionable, and comfortable!!! I have been searching for more boutiques in Cleveland that have unique and interesting women's clothing and accessories (see: Room Service--also love this place). I really can't say enough good things about Evie Lou: from baubles, to casual clothes, to going-out pieces- this store manages to have EVERYTHING. I will echo everybody's praise of Kim Crow, because she truly manages to personalize your experience. She somehow finds pieces that I normally would overlook, or even write-off and sure enough, they are the very items that look incredible. Kim Crow, the owner, is a gem who has brought to Tremont an abundant inventory of unique clothes, shoes, jewelry and other goodies for ladies. I love shopping here. Kim's stock of Prairie Underground clothes is unsurpassed in the Cleveland area, and I even found a pair of Fly shoes in size 43 (European) there! Evie Lou is one of my favorite local shops and the place I go to when I have any extra shopping budget in hand. Kim and her associates are so kind and are always willing to take the place of your best girlfriend if you are shopping solo - they will go grab things that will flatter your figure and wait outside the dressing room ready to give a thumbs up or down. I love the selection of comfy yet pretty clothing and have purchased numerous pieces from tops to skirts to sweaters. I give 4 stars because the sizing is sometimes very out of whack - smalls will fit like XL's and vice versa, and there is a limited selection for plus sizes (but this seems to be an issue anywhere). Kim and the ladies are helpful, knowledgable, but not at all pushy. They will give you an honest opinion of what you've tried on, and I mean HONEST. If something is less than fabulous, they'll let you know kindly, then scoot off to find something better. I've even had Kim take off a jacket she was wearing so that I could get an idea of size. Several weeks ago we took our college age daughter on a little shopping spree and decide to go here first. It ended up being only one of two stops. We hoped that she would be able to find some unique and different things to add to her wardrobe - without breaking the bank! She definitely did! Lov, Lov, Lov! Evie Lou is one of my favorite stores, ever! From the first time I walked into Kim's store at her first location, I was greeted by her in a friendly, genuine and sweet manner. Immediately she paid attention to YOU! Kim remembers who you are and is always engaging you in conversation each time you visit. Many stores today barely acknowledge your presence, and offer no help whatsoever. Some are too busy stacking shelves, chatting with coworkers, or talking on the phone. This amazes me, considering the sluggish economy and what should be a basic interest in selling at their store. Focus should be on the shopper. You will not find that at Evie Lou. Kim and her staff go above-and-beyond to help you find what you are looking for. They always bring a few items to the dressing room for you to try. Sometimes, you can overlook a perfect piece. The even offer to special order for you, if possible. And they are genuinely friendly, friendly, friendly! The store is in a new location, it is huge and bursting with the most unique and on-trend clothing. Some are higher-end, most are reasonable. But, you will not find boutique clothing like this in a mall! Beautuful jewelry, accessories, handbags and shoes round out the selection. I always get compliments on clothes I buy here, and am asked " where did you find that? I am a very happy customer...I will shop here forever. You have to make a trip there! read more

I really shouldn't be writing a review for this place. I honestly couldn't even afford a single shoe from Evie Lou, however I just had to comment on how extremely impressed I was with the staff here. They all seemed to be so knowledgeable on the designers they featured, where their clothing is sourced from, how it's made and how it could be styled. It's definitely a departure from the "fast fashion" world, and in a very good way. I spent quite a bit of time here browsing around, stunned at the quality of each piece. I felt transported almost to another time of departure store service and carefully crafted accessories like hats and gloves. I found a dress that was crafted from old water bottles (and trust me, it didn't look like it!) along with another jacket that was brimming with exquisite detail. The sales lady told me that the designer for that jacket uses entire bolts of fabric to cut down on waste, which is why you find so many layers and details. As I said, most of the items here are far out of my price range, but they did have a decently sized sale section. I also was surprised that they had American made denim. I would definitely return to browse the denim section next time I have some birthday money burning a hole in my pocket. I would highly recommend this place to folks looking for fashion that is unique, well-made and responsibly sourced. read more

First, great selection of interesting and not run-of-the-mill clothing that you see everywhere, displayed really well in a trendy part of Cleveland (Tremont) with easy access off the freeway. With its own parking. Score! Second, helpful staff who make good suggestions and are at the ready to swap things out in the fitting rooms. Third, fun accessories and fabulous shoes. But the best part - and this is so meaningful - is the owner's interest in the customer. Understanding style likes and dislikes, giving relevant suggestions and keeping engaged. I was blown away when the owner asked me, "did you like the [such and such] jacket that you got the last time?". Why is that impressive? I'd only been there once before, and it had been at least three months prior. I'm not THAT memorable but she was spot on right, naming the jacket manufacturer and remembering that the item had been shipped to me. That's just SUCH a pleasant and refreshing customer experience. I've spent well over $1000 in two visits and have been thrilled with what I purchased. Kudos to a store that does it right! (And their Shaker Heights store is nice too.) Beware the reviews that say this is expensive. Yes, some lines are a bit pricey, and if you compare it to Target or Macy's it's probably not your place to shop. But if you're accustomed to Eileen Fisher pricing, most of Evie Lou's items are more interesting and less expensive. read more
