I have been coming to this salon a number of years, and frequently. Recently, they updated their mani and pedi process and it's a game changer for a true mini spa experience. The 10 minute massage and masks they apply during your pedi is a great detail that most of us will appreciate. I wish they had a similar approach to the mani for those of us who spend a lot of time on the computer at work. I appreciate their respectful approach and accommodating customer service. Been coming to this nail salons for years. Was able to get a last minute appointment for a gel manicure. The salon is warm and inviting. The staff is friendly and many have been there for years. The equipment is clean and sanitized before a customer comes into contact with it. This salon has always had a good track record of maintaining infection prevention from my experience. But I have to put out there that it was hard to understand her, which was a little intimidating for someone who has only had a handful of waxings done. The price is certainly right - big points there. I guess I'm saying I wasn't as comforted as some people say they were. She didn't make me feel badly or anything, but I wasn't always sure of what was going on. For example, at the end, it took me a while to realize she was done, so then I felt rushed out of the room. This is a new low for customer service. When the owner of the nail salon runs away from you when you try to inform her that you have issues with service. It is just not right. The owner owns three salons in the area, Eve's, Athena and J'aime. She has a monopoly of salons in the area. Nothing wrong with that. The issues begin in their customer service. It seems that it is in decline. My main issue is that they don't always tell you the wait and if they do it is always double the time. So a 15 minute wait is a half hour. Today my wife and I went to Eve's and told to sit. There seem to be plenty of service personnel to accommodate service. I asked how long and the lady just said sit, sit. I did not want to be rude so I sat. Clock start. I saw one tech run out the door after 5 minutes. Then another tech ran out the door after 5 more minutes. The second time this happen I notice that each service tech ran out the door to the other salons after a phone call. Then at the 20 minute wait mark the owner walked in. You could feel the feeling in the room change to a tense environment. At the 25 minute mark I approached the owner and got her back as she just scooted away to her other store. I am really disappointed to be writing a bad review. I went there a few times and I had pretty good experiences and I thought this was a solid nail salon for the price in my neighborhood. I went back recently for a manicure/pedicure and within 2 days the nail polish on my manicure chipped really bad so I thought I would go back and see if they would do a complimentary polish change since it had only been 2 days since I was in, I have been a pretty regular customer and I hadn't done any activity with my hands besides work at my computer for 2 days. They were so rude about it and told me it was my fault it chipped and said they would do the polish change but still charge me the $5 fee (plus tip of course). I won't be back. I moved to Astoria a few months ago and was in need of a new good nail salon. Yes they charge manhattan prices, but the result is worth it. I only go to Laura for my gel manicures (no tips) and they last 3 weeks with minimal chipping. The women are very nice. I always make an appointment because they do get busy especially around 5-7 pm. DO NOT GO HERE. I only went here this week on Thursday evening because they were open later than my go-to place. I had the guilt of cheating on my perfect place (Queen A, down the road) - but it was my only available time to go. I get powder gel and it typically lasts in PERFECT form from 3-4 weeks. By FRIDAY night, not even 24 HOURS LATER a nail broke. (My real nails have grown long and beautiful and now one breaks after 6 months of growing). On Saturday morning, a 2nd nail broke. I had an important day and not only did I have no time to go back but then i looked sloppy at my Maid of Honor dress shopping appointment. Saturday evening I was finally able to go back in. I've read a few reviews and as I client for more than 5 years, I'll definitely say that Eve's has got its crazy but yet great moments. Price point is definitely great. It is a business so of course they will always try to see if you may be interested in a special spa or treatment deal. Just be polite to the nail techs, it's just part of their job. I must admit that since there are a lot of new nail techs and the fact that they have been switching them between manis/pedis even while you are getting it done...is definitely something that MUST be improved. Lately, I've had to remind the girls to give me the hot paraffin wrap which is still included in their standard pedicure. It's definitely annoying that the nails techs get taken away from you at a moments notice. I will say that I do have my favorite techs and as a repeat customer, I would love to have the same tech for both my mani and pedi. Best time to go is immediately when they open or as early as possible. Early in weekdays are the best...no customer traffic and no rushing. I'd give EVEs 5 stars if they would just stop rushing the techs and/or switching them. Finally, there is a new girl upfront which makes it more of a relaxed day at the salon. As well as when, I think one of the younger owners, is upfront. Everyone seems to complain about Eves management being rude, but I've had issues and addresses it politely to management and they've always helped me out at no extra cost. It's all about manners and courtesy. If Eve's does get busy just go to Athena's it's the same owner and the mani or pedi is just a few dollars more. FYI it's always packed!! read more

First time at this salon, and wow, I'm never going to another again. My sister is a regular at Eve's salon and has always spoken about how wonderful their services are. Upon arrival, we were required to use hand sanitizer and wear gloves in order to sign a COVID-19 waiver stating that we had not been in contact with anyone infected/nor had any symptoms. I was then prompted to pick my nail color, wearing gloves still, and then had my temperature taken. They have plastic dividers in front of every massage chair. As well as plastic dividers between the drying stations. My mani pedi was done by Liliana. She is wonderful, kind and takes her time. I've been going to Eve's for awhile now and I enjoy their service. It's not too expensive and their work is really good. What bugs me though is their customer service skills. For the past week when I came here there's no one in here, there's one person running around, & the "manager" is always running away doing a million things. I understand you're a manager and you have responsibilities, if that's the case, get someone else to finish up the job. Went here for a pedicure. And left without finishing the service because it was that appallingly bad. The "manicurist" (read on to see why this is in quotes) named Luz didn't know how to clean under the nail or file in shape correctly. She just scrubbed the bottoms of my feet and roughly filed the tops of the toes. Then without cleaning under the nail or filing the nail she moved on, intending to just lotion up and then paint. After much struggle, I finally got her to stop and to understand that she didn't file or clean yet. Then, guess what? She handed me the tool! I showed her how to use the tool under the nail myself and how it's done. I also pointed out the pointy corners of the nails that's not filed. And also how the cuticles weren't cut. All the most basic things. I can't believe I went in to teach a manicurist how to do nails. Unbelievable. These nail techs are not trained. I asked if she knew how to clean under the nail or to file and whether this looks familiar to her? She looked at me dumbfounded. Management isn't great either. They also do not use new nail buffs as required by law and by the looks of some of the shabby clientelle who come in wearing flip flops, this is a breeding ground for fungus and infection. I had the worst experience here last week. I had to walk out-- which is so not like me! When I told my friends I walked out, they couldn't believe it, since I'm probably one of the most easy-going people you would ever meet. I used to LOVE this place, but my last visit will keep me from returning. I walked in last Thursday night at 7:55. I knew it was a pretty busy time, but there was only one other person waiting, and they were open until 9:30. That's when the horror began. For the first half an hour, I sat and waited patiently, reading my book. I was told that it would be only about a 25-30 min wait for just a manicure. Then I waited. And waited. And waited. So after about 40 mins of waiting, I was sat in a manicure chair. Then I waited. And waited. And pulled out by book again. At one point, a 12 year old (or so) girl came over and started to clean my nails with nail polish remover. She was so nice, introduced herself and asked me my name. After about 2 mins of that, a manicurist told her she was going to do my nails, and the girl got up and left. Then I waited. and waited. And waited. I watched my manicurist, Nicole, in the back cleaning up a pedicure station. Then, I watched open mouthed as she walked OUT OF THE SALON! She just left with her bag for the night. I'm sure she had been there all day, but could she have stayed another 10 mins to do my nails? So by this time it is now 8:55 and I've been there an hour. So now, after aborted manicure #1, Michelle who manages the place says to me "I'm sorry, one minute" and an older woman comes to start my nails. She redoes everything the little girl had done (put hand sanitizer on my hands, and cleaned my nails with nail polish remover). Then, as she's about to start, someone hands her an envelope with her pay, I guess? So she gets up and goes to the backroom to count it. Then, of course, even though I've been there an hour, she goes to argue about it or talk to someone about it. At this point, as it was nearing 9:05 (1 hour and 10 mins after I walked in) I got up, and said "I'm done" and walked out. Worst nail place in Astoria! I spent $30 on a gel manicure and it was chipping after about 1 day. I only went here for convenience (I live around the corner), and regretted it immediately. Let me start by saying I have gone there for pedicures, and they were always mediocre at best. They would chip a day after I got them, so I really can't tell you why I thought the gel experience would be different. I just assumed that maybe the base and top coat they use for pedicures did not agree with me or something. So after my manicure chipped I went back and complained. The woman at the front desk asked if I remembered the color used, which I did not, so we just guessed. There are about 10 shades of red that look identical, but I figured if would be fine. So the older man that "re-did" my manicure just does the tips, which I thought seemed odd, and of course as I leave I notice that I literally have 2 different colors on my nails. So I go back, assuming at this point they would just redo it since there are two shades of red on my nails. Oh no, instead they go over it with another coat of the incorrect red. Fine, I was annoyed, but what I found unreal was the old man was SO UNBELIEVABLY RUDE. He smudged one of my nails, and cursed under his breath while redoing it. I could not believe it. As I went to leave again I noticed that my nails looked terrible. Let me remind you that this is a gel manicure, so it cost me $40 ($30 plus $10 tip) for a bad manicure. So I say I want it fixed... the woman at the front desk asks me who did my nails originally and I say I don't remember. She then asks the older man to fix them for the 3rd time, at which point he marches to the front of the store ranting and asking who did my nails originally. THEN, HE REFUSES TO DO THEM. Fine, I didn't want him to do another half ***ed ***ty job anyway, but now I have to wait for another tech to do them. If he were my employee I would have fired him on the spot for acting the way in front of a customer, or at least written him up. UNBELIEVABLE. At this point I think they have to redo the manicure. BUT NO, instead they file down what has been done incorrectly and go over it. So now I have a two colored, mediocre, bumpy $40 manicure. Since I've spent a total of about 2 hrs there at this point, I just say it's fine and leave. I also felt I had to tip the woman who redid them again since it took so much of her time. So now I've spent a total of $46 on a bad manicure. I can assure you I will walk past Eve's and go to a better place in Astoria. With so much competition why ANYONE WOULD GO HERE IS BEYOND ME. I prefer Potala nails on Steinway... in fact I'm going there in a few days to get my nails redone so I don't have to continue to look at the money that I wasted at Eve's. The wait time has gotten better but that synergy nail stuff they try to up sale you on sucks to remove. You can't remove it on your own with soaking it in acetone. It has to be buffered off with a nail buffer machine. Definitely won't be getting that again. I love this place. Lisa, who is now the general manager, is a marvelous waxer. Ask for her if you can. She is fast and thorough and acts like applying hot wax to your crotch is the most natural thing in the world. I had a full leg, bikini and upper lip wax and a pedicure all in one hour, and paid $82 for the whole kit and kaboodle. I gave her a $15 tip to show how much I appreciated her good humor and efficiency. Today I am not giving 5 stars, because one of the girls didn't hand me the controls for the massage chair and the hot towels were too hot on the tops of my feet! My boyfriend has a hard time taking a shower with me sometimes because I like the water hot! hot! hot!. So you know the towels must have been obscenely hot. I really wish this wasn't the only really good place in Astoria. They have a manager here, Lisa, that spends half her time sending girls to different people and places. Even if you have an appointment plan to wait, a while. I have never been here when one person does my entire manicure or pedicure or both. They start with removing the nail polish then Lisa yells "no no" and moves them to another person. I once sat down and had one person remove my polish, leave, another cut my nails, leave, then another polish. I should start going to their sister salon Athena since I hear she's not there. If you're just going for a manicure expect to be there for an hour or more. She is just really terrible and each time I've been there hoping she's not you can guarantee she is and someone is complaining about how much she sucks or walking out bc she moved them around too much and made then wait. Today she decided to make the girls stop numerous manicures and pedicures to help decorate. My manicurist was told to stop mid polish removal to help her as was another girl doing a pedicure. She then changed her mind with mine and my manicurist was asked to stay with me to finish. The pedicure customer wasn't so lucky. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but after today I'm out and moving on to another place. The chairs that you sit in are so comfortable and they ALWAYS do such a wonderful job with my nails. Its very cheap for NY- $21 Mani/Pedi or $8 Mani if you are in a rush. Lisa was very sweet and patient with me during my brazilian (I went all out for my first time). The place is nicely decorated and the lighting is soothing. I was seated immediately in the chair for a pedicure (I was the only customer) and thought, Yes! this will be fast and painless. They offer hot tea, water, heating pads, blankets, etc. They are very accommodating. They have a seasonal art display, free wifi, tv, magazines- they've very "hip" and the store is easy on the eyes. Cons: they rotate and hire new nail technicians all the time and it's hard to find a really good one of the bunch. I read a few of the reviews on this place and my boyfriend and I (yes he gets mani/pedi too) wanted to find a Manhattan type place without paying 40 bucks! The reviews said you could get a mani/pedi for 19 bucks! So we checked it out. GREAT PLACE. The cleanest nail salon I have ever been in. (And I have been to MANY MANY places). They label everything so you know what they are using and they even have a spa pedicure for 27 dollars...thats right just 27 dollars. I had a girl named Nube and she is AWESOME. I will def be back...oh, another way I know I liked it..i'll be back...and i don't even live in astoria..i live in Woodside and I will still make the commute to this great place! read more
