We have used Everything & The Dog several times over the past twelve months when we cannot travel with our dogs. We highly recommend them. For reference, we have two bigger, social dogs who formerly happily boarded in pet hotels, but moved to sitting when our senior dog started chemo. We have used a variety of services, starting with 4/day visits over a long weekend, then supplementing house sitting by older parents (the sitters did the walking and feedings with meds), then overnight stays plus 3/day visits. Our sitters have been dedicated and caring, excellent with our dogs, and respectful of our home and how the boys are cared for. Having a senior dog can be a dog-sitting challenge, and they were excellent with loving on him, as well as entertaining our younger more energetic dog. It's important for anyone using pet sitting to (1) make arrangements well in advance to ensure availability, and (2) meet the sitter in your home first to introduce the pets and to show them around the house and how your pup is fed, medicated, let out, etc and where pet supplies are kept. read more

I booked with everything and the dog. I have used them years ago. They committed to doing the service and I met the dogsitter and walked her through meeting the dog and feeding. She decided she had something better to do a few days later and I was left without a sitter after having total knee replacement. This is not acceptable. I was asked to pay ahead of time for the entire 5 days which I did. It then took them 10 days to return my money after notifying me they could not do the service. I don't feel they are running a business, but a hobby for unemployed or people transitioning from other jobs. Since it was just a hobby for the dog sitter, she canceled. read more

What a joke!!! BEWARE!!!! Inquired with this business regarding cat sitting, and upon initial phone call with the owner (who sub's out the work) to inquire about the costs, etc., he collected my information and I received an email shortly there after with a request for my credit card information and a surcharge for an initial interview and finding of a cat sitter... Are you kidding me? You charge me to 'find' and interview with a pet sitter? Wait, theres more... after receiving this, I decided this company wasn't for me, so I chose to shop around and found another company. Meanwhile, Everything and the dog called my cell phone day and night inquiring about setting up service. Busy dealing with a family death, I finally responded to them via email saying I wont use them (they're hounding me, as to why I won't need their services - who does this???) I'm not going to lie, I heavily rely on yelp reviews and had I seen the reviews for everything and the dog, I probably would not have used them. However they came highly recommended by a neighbor, and being new to the area and needing someone desperately to take care of our cat, we went for it. I can only speak about our experience and -it was great! We needed a sitter because we were going out of town for our wedding, so you can imagine we didn't need any unnecessary stresses. We met with Beth prior to leaving and explained where everything was for our cat - food, water, litter, toys, trash chute, etc. Beth sent us text updates with photos of our cat, having a good time. That was not expected and a nice surprise. It was also nice to come home and find a "report card" with comments on what Beth did with our cat and other little tid bits. He was happy and had plenty of food, fresh water and his litter box was clean. We are traveling for the holidays and look forward to using Everything and The Dog's services again! read more

I had used Everything & The Dog several times previously with no issues but started to have concerns the 2nd to last time I did when I came home to an almost empty water bowl. Let me start off by saying that I have two cats and all I ask the pet sitter to do is scoop the litter box during every visit and re-fill the water bowl. That is it. I have an automatic feeder. But this last time I used them I left a note on the counter (next to the bags used for the litter) asking him to also split a can of soft cat food each day and had 3 cans of cat food and two small bowls on the counter as well. I got a text from the pet sitter while I was away on vacation saying he had been by that day and that all was well and that because he was going to be in the area the next I was going to stop by at no charge. I have the sitter come every other day so I found this strange. I told him we were being evacuated because of a storm so there was no need to come by the next day because I'd actually be home the night before. He texted back that he felt bad because he had't done a "final cleaning" and he usually saved his longer visits for his last one. Again, I found this strange because I pay for 15 min visits so as far as I am concerned he should be there for 15 min each time doing the things I asked him to do (Scoop the litter, fill the water bowl, split a can of soft food between two bowls) which should take no longer than 10 min. So I come home that night and as soon as I walk thru the door I see poop on the floor and the litter box has a good bit of waste in it. I give him the benefit of the doubt because Ryley can be a little particular sometimes about the litter box. I go into where their food and water bowl is and the water bowl is almost empty so clearly he did not fill it that day when he supposedly was there. And all 3 cans of soft cat food were still sitting on the counter unopened so he didn't even read the note that I had left for him on the counter next to all the supplies. When I texted him telling him I was not satisfied with the care he had given my cats, he got very defensive saying that he didn't bother to read the note because he already knew where all the supplies were and blamed me for not letting him know about wanting to feed them the soft food. The note and the food was on the same counter as the bags for the cat litter. Why you wouldn't read a note that was clearly left for you is beyond me. Also, he claimed to have scooped the litter box each visit but if he had, I would have found 2 bags of litter in the trash instead of just 1. When I pointed that out he never responded back. The real shame of it is that I provided screen shots of my text conversation with him and provided more details to the owners and requested my key back. The only response they offered was sorry for your frustrations. No offer of a refund and a real lack of concern. I won't be using them again. read more

I was not at all surprised to (though I sincerely hoped I wouldn't) see that my review is not the only negative review to be left recently. I've been a client since 2009, and initially my experience with the company was excellent- truly 5 star service. My animals mean the world to me, and leaving them in the hands of others is always anxiety-provoking, but I felt entirely comfortable entrusting their care to EATD. However, my last few interactions with the company have been extraordinarily disappointing. I've placed service requests weeks in advance, and have failed to receive a service confirmation, despite multiple calls and e-mails, until the VERY last minute. The last two times I was not sure if I was going to have a sitter until the day I was scheduled to depart, and had to make backup arrangements with neighbors at the eleventh hour just in case EATD couldn't accommodate my request. It was extraordinarily stressful. I've given them the benefit of the doubt and stuck with them because ultimately the care my cats have received from the sitters themselves (despite me never meeting the sitters since they filled in last minute) has seemingly been good, and it's a hassle to go through the meet and greet process with a new company. I've just had another similar experience, though (failure to confirm service for more than a week), and I'm afraid I'm done. This time one of my cats is ill and our needs therefore are a bit more extensive. I'm afraid I no longer can trust that EATD has the capacity to meet those needs and provide quality care. I've reached out to another company that I hope can demonstrate more urgency in meeting client needs and inspire more confidence in their services, and strongly suggest you do the same. read more

(I would give 10 stars if I could) I must admit, I was very nervous at first about giving a stranger a key to my house, but when I got my first dog I knew I was going to have to get a dog walker to take her out in the middle of the day. I emailed Everything & the Dog, and I got an immediate response from Patti answering all of my question and her professionalism and friendliness put me at ease. The fact that E&TD had all their info online on their website was a plus. Also, they have a secure section of their website that you get to with a private login, and you can add a credit card for auto billing, and you can check the schedule of walks. Love it! Patti set up a meeting with our first walker so she can meet me and the dog (and the cats), and from the second she walked in the door I have never had a moments worry about my animals, or anything else. She would always give my cats some attention and treats too, and there were daily notes about the visit. And I would get an email or phonecall if there was anything that needed attention immediately. When I got a 2nd dog I was able to add a 2nd daily visit for the first few weeks, which was great. Also, if I ever needed a last-minute evening walk because I was stuck in traffic I knew I could get one. They also do pet-sitting if you go out of town, and they will even water the plants while you are gone! I can't say enough great things. I was nervous at first, but after finding Everything & The Dog I was at ease. Now that I work from home I don't need the daily walks, but I know that I can get a visit if I need it! read more

We were grandfathered in to Everything & The Dog as longtime Pets N Plants customers. Our overall experience has been very positive. I am very particular about our cat(s) and how they are cared for in our absence. We have been very happy with the quality of care that we have received from our pet sitter from Everything & The Dog. From the timing of visits to the detailed summaries we receive when we arrive home, we feel very comfortable with this service. We live in Alexandria and are not necessarily within the "sweet spot" for the location of most of their pet sitters. We did have one situation back in early August where they had problems finding a sitter for our whole stay and we had to work closely with them to understand the situation and make alternate arrangements. However, the greatest majority of the time we have been very happy with this service. Online reservations are easy and it is nice to be able to pay in advance rather than try to remember to leave a check. I would recommend their service to anyone. read more

Just AWFUL!!! I wouldn't let them watch my ant farm, let alone my dogs!!! Lydia Best hires cheap teenage/college aged labor, people I suspect would fail any face-to-face interview! (A person that I had never met came to my house and was appalled when I went to their FaceBook page to see who had been in my house!!) the last straw was when my dog wasn't given meds, came home to a horribly sick dog and filthy house. The "notes" and times when the sitter was supposedly at our house became shorter & shorter - and were off by a lot as we have video camera surveillance!!! Lydia works at a new venture full time, which may explain the abysmal service, but she and her partner are trying to make cash by providing crappy service. When they first started, the business was ok. Note that on their Facebook page they do not allow reviews as other sitters do!! It's Bc they got pummeled with negative reviews! We had some really terrible experiences leaving our pets (and our home) in the hands on both friends AND pet sitters, so when a friend of mine who owns a pet sitting company not in my area suggested we call Everything and the Dog we were extremely skeptical. We got to a point where if we couldn't bring the dogs, we didn't go. We decided to give them a try for a long weekend after we had our daughter and realized how difficult it is to travel with a peanut and two german shepherds. We were assigned Kim, who is amazing. I love that she texts me with updates while I'm gone and I always return to a page full of notes from each visit. The house is always clean and the dogs are always happy. I also can't tell you how much I appreciate that she brings in the mail and cleans the litter box (did I mention we have two cats?) Now we almost feel guilty when we come home, it's as if they're disappointed to see us and not Kim! Scheduling is a breeze (even very last minute, as we often are) and the prices are the best in the area. I can't tell you how freeing it is to have someone you really trust to take care of your house and four-legged family. Thanks Kim, we love you!! read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE this company. I specifically use their services to walk my two corgis daily (who can be finicky sometimes) I've used 2 other services before them and this is by far, the best service I've had. Here is why: 1. Extremely responsive. We need a last minute change or adjustment? (Which we have had several), they are ON it and with no attitude. 2. Pleasant and EASY to work with. They really do think about customer service 3. Easy payment system! The other dog walkers we had to write by check (most dog walkers are really just "themselves", which is fine but options are limited). We set it up that our payment was deducted bi-weekly. So easy and taken cared of. 4. Easy to contact, email or phone. I had qualms about one of the dog walkers in the past and Lydia addressed my fears and kept it open that if I were to have any issues with their service, to let them know. That put me at ease. Also, I think we were assigned the best dog walker on the planet---Kara-- she kept up to date notes, easily accessible, great attitude, my dogs love her and once, I even got locked out of my apartment and she drove by to use her key to let me back in. If that's not awesome service, I don't know what is. I wish they had it here in LA! read more

I can't say enough to express how pleased I am with the service I receive from Lydia and our dog sitter. I always receive prompt responses to requests and Lydia has been most accommodating, even in an emergency situation when we had to leave town at the last minute. Our dog sitter, Jenny, is always on schedule with her visits and takes great care of our Kobe. She sends helpful updates and the most adorable pictures to keep us connected. We always get a great note from her at the end of her scheduled visits so we know exactly what is going on. She even takes the extra time to pick up our mail and water our plants. We used to use this company regularly but the service has gone downhill the last year or two. It takes days to get a response to emails, and we get a new sitter every time and have to either take our chances or pay for a meet and greet for every trip. This past trip, we paid for (4) 30 minute visits. The dog walker came once for 30 minutes, once for less than 10, and called our emergency contact at 9:30pm to see if we really wanted her to do the last two visits. After complaining, the company offered a full refund (which was nice and also more than I asked for. I only requested a refund for the visits she didn't complete.). However, they never actually processed a refund for anything and now have stopped answering my emails. I'll have to contest the charges with my credit card. I would recommend finding another service-- we have. read more

We contacted Lydia from Everything and The Dog as our friend recommended her highly. Lydia assigned Kim to take care of our two furry girls while we were away. Kim was unbelievable from the moment she walked through our doors. During the "meet and greet" session, our dogs would not leave her side. While we were away, Kim kept us updated on how the dogs were doing on a daily basis. In addition, she kept a daily log of walks and feedings of our pets. She went out of her way to brush the dogs, collect our mail and turn on/off the lights for us. As a veterinarian I often adopt pets that have medical conditions that require close care, and so it is important to me that I have trustworthy, kind people to rely on to take care of our furry family members when we cannot be there. The pet sitters I worked with through Everything & The Dog took amazing care of my dog Riley while we figured out a condition that caused him to occasionally seize at the end of even short walks. Fortunately we figured out what was going wrong fairly quickly but it meant the world to me that there was someone who kept me informed as to how he was doing and knew how to take care of him in case something happened. They were recommended to me by other veterinarians I knew who also found they took great care of their pets. Love them and recommend them to my friends and family. read more

I am very disappointed with this company. I have been using them for about 6 months and my first dog walker was pretty good. She would let me know when she was there and walking my dog, but I was then assigned another dog walker who was not good at all. He never would let me know when he was there to walk my dog and I found out he was not walking him like I was paying for. I have been paying for 30 minute walks and found out through the dog camera that he was taking my dog out to use the bathroom and putting him right back in the house. Not walking him at all. He made the excuse that it was too cold to walk him. I let the owner know and asked for a new walker. The owner did not get back to me for days so I then e-mailed again and was told to give him a few more days to look for a new walker. At that point I told him to go ahead and cancel. I have not been reimbursed for the walks I had been paying for and not receiving either. I have since signed up for Wag and the service has been phenomenal. You can track their walks on the app and they send pics of my dog as well as let me know how the walk went. I would suggest going with another pet service like Wag if you are looking for someone. read more

These guys (Tood & Pat) at Everything and The Dog literally saved our family Ski Vacation and our Pup! We were 10 hours drive away when our friends who were watching our Lab Puppy had a conflict and couldn't watch him the last day of our trip. We had 1 day to find immediate care for a big, rambunctious puppy who needs walks & numerous potty breaks during the day. We needed someone we could trust to watch our dog inside of our home in Reston, VA. Todd & Pat provided immediate service options, a tag-team approach with thier care, and stayed in constant contact with me including when they got our Pup, got into our house with a spare key we had in a lock box, sent me pics of our boy on walks and gave us updates on food, potty, and his demeanor. Todd went above & beyond to make sure our puppy had the coverage he needed, even offering after hour care options if needed. I can't thank these guys enough and would highly recommend them to anyone in the DMV!! read more

Very disappointed after many years of using Lydia service. They focus on volume over care and did not provide the service I had been payinh for. Our concerned neighbors brought it to our attention that are dogs werent walked but taken to a curb while our walker texted. Once our pets did thier business the walk was over. Most of the time it less than 5 minutes when we paid for 15 minutes walks. Its easy to figure it out. Ask your walker how man clients she walks a day. Do the math and you will see they dont have time to give your pet the amount of time your paying for.. read more

We were shopping around for new sitter and made contact and received a response from Lydia who confirmed by email that there was "Plenty of time :)" to set up a meet and greet and all arrangements with new sitter before we left town within two weeks. We never heard back from them so we made other arrangements. A month later and mere hours before our departure I forwarded the, "Plenty of time :)" email to the company in jest, illustrating that we were well aware of their lack of care and attention to a promise they made weeks prior and they should be ashamed. Two hours after sending the email we received several response emails; one illustrating payment for service along with the contact information and sitting confirmation for our request. Email indicated that since we are so short on time, they will set up a meet and greet after we return from vacation, which of course made no sense. Email gave instructions for us to provide sitter with paperwork along with key under mat. Again, this was sent a couple hours before our departure. This hurry up, last minute, put out a fire routine, although amusing, was sadly embarrassing for them. Not only did this display priority of profit over care, but a complete disregard to the needs of their customers. If I hadn't of sent that email, we never would have heard from these people again. I sent an enraged email filled with plenty of expletives expressing my disgust in their careless procedures. Identifying very clearly that we leave within hours and their quick clean up routine was pathetic. Instead of receiving any formal apology, we were instead greeted with a response from a company representative informing us that rather than us becoming upset that they were unable to accommodate our needs to, "...just find someone who can. " They went on to compare the similarities of their company to the "random neighborhood kid" who, "...doesn't guarantee they're gonna do a good job or even show up." Agent advised that, "Sometimes it doesn't work out--and that stinks..." followed by a suggestive alternative to a sitter, "You just need to get creative." Representative spent more time expressing personal feelings over the matter rather than focusing on the direct issue stating, "Welcome to being a pet owner. No one said it was easy." Previous reviews indicating the shift in motto from care to cash is very accurate. read more

After this review was posted on Yelp, it was quickly to get a reply from EATD, offering me a discount and sitter right away, even tho I hadn't filled up any information as it was previously requested. It took me to have to write on Yelp to get a reply. No thanks, I pass it. Upcoming our trip in 2 weeks, I have contacted EATD, because I needed a sitter to check on my kitten. I contacted them by their website and as expected, they would contact me back couple days after that. I sent the message on Wednesday and I got an email and phone call from Lydia on Saturday, when she told me she would send the forms on the email, so they could get hold of a sitter for my cat. 4 days have passed and I still hadn't received these forms, so I decided to send a message in the morning to the phone number I had got the call last Saturday, till late afternoon I hadn't had a reply so I decided give them a call that wasn't picked up within business hour, but then instead I got the reply for my message right away, that I should check the email again and stuff, I replied that I haven't, and even sent a screen shot of the only email I had received. So since then I haven't heard a word from them and it has been another 4 days, my trip is next Friday, and luckily After all that I feel glad I got my friend to watch my cat. I am writing this review because if even before using their services this is what I'm getting, I don't think I would want them taking care of my loved ones. I wish I had something good to write about EATD, however they weren't reliable enough to give me a whatever reply, that they wouldn't be able to provide their services or whatever excuse. read more

I don't know what is going on with Everything & the Dog. They were excellent before. Now, I filled in their online form to request service and there was no reply for more than a week. I left a voicemail, no reply. Finally, Lydia replied to an email inquiry. She promised to "do my best" to process our request by the next business day. Several days later, still no word. I just sent another email cancelling the request. Fortunately, a neighbor has agreed to watch our cat for us. I hope all is well with Lydia and anyone else behind Everything and the Dog. I wish them well. But, they should not hang their shingle if they cannot provide dependable service for our loved pets. For the time being, anyway, I suggest people look elsewhere for pet sitting service. Not just based on my experience, but based on the other more recent reviews here on Yelp. read more

I was extremely disappointed by this company. I used them years ago and they were great. Recently however, there have been issues with reliability. They have been other issues but the recent time I know foot sure she did not come ad scheduled. I came home early from a trip and the dog walker never came as scheduled. She tried to tell the owner that she had just been there but then all the water and food would not have been empty for the old dog and kittens. I don't know what happened when I was gone but my dog was so dehydrated he wouldn't walk or eat and I had to give him subcutaneous fluids and manually feed him food and water. No issues with my dog being sick like this before or since. Whatever happened it is definitely not ok that you cannot count on the dog walker showing up to keep you animals safe. read more

I've used this company for several years but I'm just not feeling it anymore. Over the summer I had to cancel a trip and sent an email to EATD. Apparently they didn't bother to read it and the sitter just came on in -- waking me out of a pain-killer supplemented nap. Not good. Wednesday night I ordered service online for a Saturday trip that was iffy until the last minute. Their app informed me that it was less than 72 hours in advance (I'll grant that it WAS only 68 hours in advance) and they couldn't guarantee the order -- if I didn't hear from EATD within the next business day I was to phone them. By the time I got home they were closed for the day and there was no confirmation e-mail. Looking online it appears that the reservation might be booked (shows on the calendar) but I'm not sure. read more

Their idea of care is not what most people consider adequate. I hired Everything and the Dog to look after my dog and cat. I had used Cupid Pets before, but it was bought out by Everything and the Dog. I was told the sitter had been with the company for years. The first day, she supposedly came between 8 - 9 am but didn't text me to let me know she had been there. She supposedly came again after lunch, but still no proof. She came for the third visit and admitted she was gone by 6:00 pm. When I asked why so early for the last visit, she said "My cat does protest poop outside the litter when I'm gone." I pointed out that my dog was 13 and tomorrow morning was too long for any dog to wait to be taken out again and asked her to go back later. Her response was "Oh geez OK. Well i guess we should add a late evening visit." I was willing to pay for her to go back out of desperation even though I shouldn't have had to pay for her to go back at a more reasonable time for a last visit (between 8 - 9 pm). She said "I had no idea you needed late evening." That should be common sense when taking care of any dog around the clock. They can't wait 14 - 16 hours at a time. She said she does this with all of her clients and the owner of Everything and the Dog had told her the last visit could be at 4:00 pm. Really???? So I guess all that matters is that they are paid their $24 per visit even if all visits fall in an 8 - 10 hour period. What happens the other 14 - 16 hours? A mess and a dog in pain trying to wait is what happens. I called and emailed the owner and have never gotten a response, which I also find very unprofessional. Luckily, I found another sitter to come that very night from another pet sitting service. They were great throughout our absence, very professional and reliable, always sending pictures and what they had done at each visit. They were the same price! I'm not sure my pets would have survived Everything and the Dog's idea of care and I would have been worried sick. I paid them for the day their sitter came, though I also had to pay for a sitter to come that evening. Never again will I hire this company. read more

Disappointed with email response time in addition to care and concern over my property while I was away. Having reached out to them a week and a half before my departure date, I was disappointed I had to try on 2 different occasions to confirm they even received my email requesting pet-sitting services. When they finally reached out to me, they had not even reached out to the sitter yet. The actual sitters are great but there is a huge communication disconnect between Lydia and the customers and Lydia and her sitters. I can't even begin to summarize how many times this service has come to my rescue. I have an unbelievably crazy travel schedule . .at times, I have had to call the day before a multi-day trip. The staff has bent over backwards to take care of my pop up needs. Upon return, there is always a hand written report detailing the visits to my dog and cat. Highly, highly recommend!!!!!!! read more
