This is an update, after almost two years here for my parents…read more There is a lot to say about Touchmark. I will limit my observation to the willingness of middle and senior level staff to treat my parents with respect, listening carefully to what they say and working diligently to craft solutions that work. We recently presented them with some unusual problems. They came together, worked outside the box and creatively, energetically, proactively turned a family crisis into a little oasis of safety and calm. I'll let others talk about the normal day to day routines that make a place like this a home for our honored parents and loved ones. And it's all good, believe me. But, when we needed help ... they were there. Impressive. That's a sign of deep corporate cultural health.

I have been a resident at Touchmark for over three years. When I first came the facility was…read moreoutstanding in all regards, and particularly the staff and the senior management demonstrated very strong commitment to their residents. I was one of the early residents of their villas, and they were initially a great improvement to the facility. I felt the facility fully deserved a five-star rating. However while the staff is still outstanding, the quality of services has degraded. It seems that they added over fifty villas to the facility but failed to increase the kitchen size, the transportation support, and likely some of the staffing needs to maintain the high standards of three years ago.

I wrote a 5 star review earlier. I still have a great opinion about the level of care for my…read moremother-in-law who is in memory care. When first interviewing the place, we were told there is a doctor who comes every Monday. When we met the doctor, he was clear to us that he is a nurse who has a doctorate in nursing. He was honest. The Quarry continues to refer to him as a doctor and even a primary care doctor. A federal court case out of California clearly ruled that this is illegal because it is misleading. The Quarry should stop referring to this wonderful nurse as a "Doctor".

My husband & I have been living in the Assisted Living part of The Quarry in Vancouver for a number…read moreof months. Like anywhere there is good & not so good. We pay a premium amount for food on a scale of 1-10 that we would rank a 4. Portions are child-like and any salad horrible when it comes to freshness or quality of what's in it. Caregivers think nothing of shouting in the halls in the middle of the night as though they think everyone is awake at 2:30 a.m. Why do the schedulers insist once you grow comfortable with a particular caregiver they must move them somewhere else? You are forced to start all over with routines that before were comfortable. There is an uncurrent of dissatisfaction & discontent because when a problem is mentioned nothing changes. Many good staff members have left for other employment because of the lack of fixing what has to exist in any living community. They sacrifice quality because to fix the situation would cost money & that's a prominent no-no. There are numerous walls that need paint or repair but it takes weeks to get it looked at much less fixed. Community living sometimes is messy but too often the mess or unrepaired appliances or gym machines linger for weeks or months. Bringing the situation to the attention of managers who should get the work done immediately often makes little difference. Unless you complain repeatedly nothing gets fixed quickly at all. Frustration is the least of the results. There are many staff who are warm, conscientious and treat their residents like family but these folks are few. For the exorbitant price we pay I seriously question long we can endure.

DO NOT place your loved ones here. They seem like the nicest people ..... but the care is horrible…read morewhen you aren't there. My mother (Alzheimers, non verbal) ended up in the hospital ER, literally starving, dehydrated, and covered in dried feces and bruises under her clothes. The nurses at the hospital were shocked and heartbroken at the apparent lack of care. When asked why she was so malnourished, Dan (the "nice" man who runs the place) said she wouldn"t eat and hadn't for weeks.... which was not true at all. The nurses at the hospital and I found she was starving and wanted all the food and drink we could give her. We also heard from a former employee how neglected the residents were whenever family visitors are not around. The caregiver said she was told to ignore them and not to bond with them. This is a horrible place. Several years later I still wake up from nightmares with so much regret knowing the last part of my mother's life was spent with these people and that she was suffering mentally and physically but couldnt communicate it. Looking back now, I think she tried to let me know but I misinterpreted her signals. It's hard to forgive yourself for something like that.

I worked here after relocating to Vancouver. I've worked in several Adult Family Homes. The point…read moreof having an adult family home is so the residents get better care, more 1:1 care. This was not so here. I was to quickly shower all the ladies as quickly as possible. Get them dressed then sit them in their recliners.( pictured on the wensite.) in front of the Tv. This is where the ladies stay all day except for meal times. I was not to sit and talk with them , it was discouraged! I was to basically ignore them. There was other things about the company in Wich they were dishonest, such as having me sign independent contractor irs forms, but stating I was not a independent contractor. When it came to my lunch breaks I was not to leave the house I had to stay in the kitchen and take my breaks! While the owners watched over me. All in all I ended up quitting after my first week. I could not be a part of the way they treated those ladies. They should be ashamed of themselves. There is so much more than giving the minimum care such as bathing, feeding, clothing&medications.
