The staff was friendly and very approachable. Fast forward to today and it is a different matter. His room was not cleaned for over three weeks, the hallways have not been vacuumed, and dirty dishes have been left sitting on furniture in the hallways. When he goes to eat he is told that they are out of stuff all the time. No tea to drink, no bananas to eat and if he should ask for seconds he is told that if they give it to him they will not have enough to feed the people in memory care. For the amount of money he is paying to stay here this is completely unacceptable! We have been told that it is all due to staff being let go and that they are never out of food or drinks. Where is management? If they don't have the people to clean then why are they not helping? Why are they not in the dinning room talking to the residents and seeing what they are getting to eat or what is out? We will be moving my dad out of this facility just as soon as we can.

I've had a long history with Farmington Square, going back to my Grandma Dora's death here in, I…read morethink 2005. I know that when Grandma died the experience I had, and the experience my father and aunties and uncles had here, it was very good. My grandma was 89 and had advanced dementia. There were severe behavioral problems from Grandma that led to her moving from nursing home to nursing home in her final year. Grandma's deterioration and instability of care caused a great deal of distress to my dad and aunties and uncles. It was a horrible final year. Farmington was Grandma's final stop and she went into hospice shortly after arriving. As a 20-something I only visited her twice at that home but I know what I saw and what my family saw from the staff. It was complete and whole hearted care for grandma, something the other homes hadn't been able to provide. One of the workers actually climbed into bed with Grandma and held her and played folk gospel music for her around the clock in her final days. That worker was invited and attended the private family memorial we held for Grandma. Now my mother is at Farmington, she moved there in 2020. My mom also has advanced dementia, although not as far along as Grandma was. I cannot speak a great deal about my experience with my mother because it has been an unprecedented and hellish year for everyone, the year of the coronavirus and a great deal of political upheaval. I will reserve any public judgment for how things move forward. I do feel comfortable in saying that I have had a few problems and brought them directly to Claudia and Malina--they have helped a lot. I really like Yolanda who runs the Social and Activities for Farmington Square and I trust that she is always doing her best with a heart really full of caring in an undeniably fraught situation where loved ones are not allowed to touch or hug the residents. Her job title essentially changed in March 2020 to Zoom Video Coordinator. She has maintained a kind and professional demeanor in this volatile situation under extreme stress. I think the whole community should be grateful for how the nursing home has participated in vaccine rollout. They have hosted safe and competent vaccine clinics for the Farmington community, including family and friends of the residents. I stayed for the required 15 minutes after my first vaccine and I was impressed with the manpower and effort put into the clinic. For my little group, it was a community service for low-income and underserved communities. It took significant stress off my family and the friends I brought. Thank you very much, Farmington, for making such a seamless experience in this regard.

I have observed water coming in my first floor apartment three times from my outside door. My box…read morespring became wet sitting on the floor. In addition the 1985 building has had air-conditioning and heat not functioning properly. During the recent summer heat the dining room was above 90 degrees. The kitchen staff worked in over 100 degrees preparing meals. A resident was checked on by family one evening because they were unable to reach him. He was overheated in his apartment. Paramedics were called for assistance. Safety issues here need attention and not be stalled for repair.

The RNs are in touch with the patient's needs and contact the proper medical providers when needed. Unfortunately there is significant delay in initiating proper treatment, such as antibiotics, etc. In addition, treatment managers to not contact family members routinely nor do they give details of care, planning, testing, etc. prior to the group sit down. In some cases this can be a real challenge for the patient, who may need better communication due to hearing, visual limits etc. After release, we inquired about some dates of care via telephone x 3 to the care specialist, with No response. While at Village Rehab, my husband complained about the food, did not eat, and lost weight. So I tasted the "soup"....he was right. After returning home he has regained some weight and pursues regular meals, so it was not his illness.

Village Healthcare: An absolute NIGHTMARE of a rehab hospital…read more I just returned home after a two week stay there after knee surgery. This was the only place the hospital could find for my after care. Here goes.... 1) The FOOD; , if you can call it that, is provided by Sysco. Sysco is a enormous food manufacturer that churns out the cheapest and least nutritious food for hospitals and nursing homes that want to bring down their food budget to nothing. There's nothing like unidentifiable food on ones plate to show a loving and caring attitude for a patients healing process. These are manufactured meals of old slabs of meat re-heated, over cooked vegetables, goopy plop of something resembling rice or potatoes, nothing "green" in their supposed "green salad". I could go on. I went on a hunger strike, only eating the tiny cups of fresh fruit, bananas and some cereal. I dropped 12 pounds (in 10 days) just from sending the food back. I will include a picture. The food smells awful too. 2) The SMELL; though the place is fairly clean, they allow the whole staff to wear un-godly amounts of perfume of their choosing. Now, I use to be a CNA when I was in college, so I understand that the smell of old and sick people can get to you, but we were taught to put Vicks Vapor rub in our noses and just make do. We were NOT allowed to wear any kind of perfume-y anything. - I have migraines. The horrible perfume stink that the nurses brought in with them would linger in the room for hours triggering a constant migraine headache, which, of course, just added to the pain, nausea and dizziness I was already in (knee surgery is incredibly painful). I had to ask for the Vicks for myself to try and allay the nurses perfumes, and finally I had to go back to taking my migraine medication. 3) They LOST my medication. It was time for my pain medication one night and they kept trying to ignore my requests for it. Finally, after ringing for it the fifth time and then dragging myself out to the front desk, some CNA, who did not speak English well, finally let me know "they could not find any of my medication, including my pain meds"...!!! OMG! I was like "you can't FIND my medication?! The nurse responded by garbling something about it maybe being on another unit by mistake...! Meanwhile I was in desperate pain and no idea if they would ever find it. It took me having to call the hospital I had been transferred from to ask if they could transfer me out of there before the charge nurse ran over with some "emergency meds" to me and said" hang up the phone or we won't give you this medication"!! Wow! Pretty awful. I had made the decision to go to this after care hospital because I wanted to get up and moving safely, learning exercises that would heal me faster. I ended up spending very little time out of bed with any physical therapy at all. When I did see a physical therapist they were often rushed, not even bothering to let me know how many reps were involved in my exercises. All and all, this experience probably set me back a fair amount in my healing process, but was an excellent lesson on never going to one of these places again, not even if I'm dying.
