JUST LIKE HOME, ONLY BETTER!…read more My grandmother moved here after a sudden and dramatic decline due to a major surgery. She couldn't take care of herself any longer and needed immediate care. I am so grateful that I found Emeritus during an online search of local senior living facilities. I walked in off the street to tour Emeritus, which is marvelously located in East Vancouver minutes from Hwy. 14 and close to gobs of shops, restaurants, doctors, dentists, pharmacies, grocery stores, and anything else you could need--not to mention about ten minutes from PeaceHealth Southwest. Anyhow, the staff welcomed me and gave me a tour on the spot. The building is beautiful, bright and cheery with a spacious feeling and lots of art on the walls. Better yet, it smells great when you walk in--like it's just been cleaned, combined with the aroma of something delicious coming from the dining room/kitchen. Several residents were gathered in the lobby, chatting to each other. I asked them if they were happy living there and to a person they all answered yes. (Maybe they thought I was a state inspector, but still...) My family and I joined my grandmother in the dining room on her first night, with complimentary meal tickets, and we were amazed at the quality of food. I was expecting something institutional and bland but what we got was worth savoring and tasted home-cooked from the first morsel to the last crumb. Our extended family also attended the Thanksgiving meal, which was EXCEPTIONAL and so crowded they had to seat people in the lobby and activity rooms (two words: BOURBON TURKEY). I used to worry about my grandmother when she lived alone, but now I know she's safe. Her one-bedroom apartment is large (about 600 square feet), always perfectly clean, and overlooks an inner courtyard with trees and benches and winding paths. She's made friends, has been invited to attend activities and outings (Plays! Restaurants! Day trips!), goes to the on-site beauty salon, and the staff encourages her to use the 24-hour beeper necklace she wears not just in case of emergency, but also for little things, such as help adjusting the thermostat in her room or if she's in the hallway and can't remember where she's going. She is treated with respect, dignity, and courtesy. Rarely have I encountered a staff so enthusiastic about their jobs. Everyone seemed delighted to help me, and I'm pretty sales-resistant but these people won me over by treating me and my grandmother with genuine kindness. They did everything they could to make my grandmother's transition easier and more comfortable--and they went far, far above and beyond to help me with the overwhelming number of tasks necessary to facilitate the move, including recommended a moving company that specializes in moving older people and helping me get the proper doctor's forms in order. The financial arrangement was explained very clearly and transparently and the prices--compared to other senior living facilities--are on the low end, even though they could reasonably charge far more. Finding a place for your parents or grandparents is HARD, but Emeritus is just like home, only better...not just because the building is beautiful, but because of the staff's unsurpassed dedication to caring for the people who live there.

She went into the hospital about two weeks before she had to move. When she got out of the hospital, they had placed her in an adult foster home ( a whole different review). Pacifica is still operating as an assisted living facility, but still had kicked my sister and the other residents out. Also my sister was told that her belongings that they "stored" for her was all destroyed when the roof collapsed from the snow. I call bullshit on that. Anyway, Pacifica, believe this, I'm telling my sister to contact my attorney and to sue the shit out of you!

With l resident moves inincluded rent is transportation to doctors shopping outings./excursions. What is left out is there is no lift on the bus, only two stairs with railings on each side but at the top of the steps, they spread out too far to hold onto with both arms No reimbursement for what they have already paid for on the facilities bus . This is the only vehicle they have for residents the managers refused to reimburse me so I went to the regional manager, who agreed to reimburse me for one year worth of rides. This did not include outings and excursions which I missed out on entirely for the whole time. I was there. in conclusion, if transportation is included in the rent and a resident is not able to board the bus because it has no lift yes should be clearly indicated before they sign the rental agreement Thusly, two star rating because everyone likes to get out in the world, even when we're old-er!

My husband & I have been living in the Assisted Living part of The Quarry in Vancouver for a number…read moreof months. Like anywhere there is good & not so good. We pay a premium amount for food on a scale of 1-10 that we would rank a 4. Portions are child-like and any salad horrible when it comes to freshness or quality of what's in it. Caregivers think nothing of shouting in the halls in the middle of the night as though they think everyone is awake at 2:30 a.m. Why do the schedulers insist once you grow comfortable with a particular caregiver they must move them somewhere else? You are forced to start all over with routines that before were comfortable. There is an uncurrent of dissatisfaction & discontent because when a problem is mentioned nothing changes. Many good staff members have left for other employment because of the lack of fixing what has to exist in any living community. They sacrifice quality because to fix the situation would cost money & that's a prominent no-no. There are numerous walls that need paint or repair but it takes weeks to get it looked at much less fixed. Community living sometimes is messy but too often the mess or unrepaired appliances or gym machines linger for weeks or months. Bringing the situation to the attention of managers who should get the work done immediately often makes little difference. Unless you complain repeatedly nothing gets fixed quickly at all. Frustration is the least of the results. There are many staff who are warm, conscientious and treat their residents like family but these folks are few. For the exorbitant price we pay I seriously question long we can endure.
